Is Karma A Bitch??

Author: : Purpleorchards
Genre: Romance
What do you think about karma? Do you believe it? Or is it just a myth? This story is one of the ways to find out. This is a story about two teenage best friends. It's not your basic cliche love story, but it's a romantic book that will have a bit of spice with a sweet flavor.

Chapter 1 Karma

It has been a year since Evy has visited her hometown. She would be lying if she said that she did not miss it. Her parents live here, and she had spent her entire childhood in this very place. So yes, she definitely missed it. She has lots of lovely yet painful memories here.

One thing that Evy didn't miss was her school; 'THE WOODSTOCK HIGH SCHOOL.'

It is a private school.

If you are in the 'IT' crowd, you will be in love with this place, but if not, you will dread every minute of it. Especially when you are associated with any of the popular kids, but 'you are not fit to talk to them.' However, if you are lucky and do not have any contact with the jocks and Barbie's here, you can live your life peacefully.

Well, you might guess who exactly Evy is?

Evy is short for Evelyn Brook. She is your regular seventeen-year-old teen. She is the only daughter of her parents and, like every other daughter, she is a daddy's girl and shares a special bond with her mom. They are not extravagantly rich, nor are they poor. Her parents have enough to satisfy her needs.

'It feels good to be back here after a year.' She thought when she entered her hometown. Everything here is pretty much the same. Nothing has changed. And hey! She is not complaining. She likes this place as it is. Woodstock is really beautiful.

Unlike all those years, she is pretty excited about starting her senior year here because it is going to be filled with surprises. The people there in the school are going to be so shocked. Not a single person would have imagined that she would return to this place after what they all did to her.

Now you might think why she came back as these people clearly despise her?

She didn't want to, but she only stepped into this place because of her parents. They missed her, and she couldn't say no to them. She is not that selfish. And to be honest, those losers don't scare her anymore.

During this one year, she learned lots of things that people will see with time.

In fact, now those people here will regret it if they mess with her. Well, Evy doesn't have the personality of a typical bitch who likes to make everyone's life miserable. But yes, if someone crosses his or her line, she won't stand quietly and wait for those words to get to her. Instead, she will stand up for herself.

Evy knows that she is not labeled as hot or sexy, but she also knows that she is not bad-looking as her fellow students had made her believe. In all honesty, these tags are all big bullshit that people have started to live on. But she also knew for the fact that she was pretty enough for a boy to date her. Evy can say that because, in her past school, many boys asked her out. In fact, she loves her old school. There every minute she enjoyed, unlike in this school where she was living with fear every minute of it.

At present she was standing in front of her school. Initially, she used to hate stepping into that building, but not anymore. There have been lots of changes in the past year not.

She has the same personality and qualities as before. It's just that she has built up more confidence in her. She even lost some weight and built up stamina. She has become a more outspoken person who can stand up for her own self.

She still remembers the day when she left this place. It still stings her heart and brings tears to her eyes. But no! That innocent, weak Evelyn Brook is no more. She is gone for good now.

This is the new Evelyn Brook, with whom no one can mess. In fact, she won't let those Jocks and Barbie's bully any innocent kids anymore. She can't let anyone suffer the same emotions as her. Evy knows for a fact that she alone can't make a difference in this crazy society, but at least she can try.

As you all know, it's going to shock her fellow mates at her school to see her again. But one person will be beyond shocked as his actions were the ones that forced her to leave this place. Because of him, Evy had to get her act together and start fresh. In a way, she is thankful to him for doing what he did and showing her his true colors. But he has no clue what is coming for him.

Evy knows that he thinks she is the same old person who will forgive him easily, like always, if he asks for forgiveness. That is, if he is nice enough to ask for it. Oh yes! That is how much of a jerk he has become. And knowing him, he will definitely ask for an apology because that's what he always does.

He simply says 'sorry' to her.

SORRY one word, five letters. The simple word sorry. Evy has heard it so many times now that she hates this word because no one means it when they use it.

But not anymore. Evy does not indicate that she has planned something evil for him, bringing his status down or something. In fact, she is going to go with the flow. She is not that brutal to get her ex-best friend down.

She has no clue what is ahead waiting for her, but one thing she knows is that Karma is a bitch. Karma gets you back. You just need to believe in it and move on. Try not to take matters into your own hand if unnecessary. Just leave it to Karma. It has its way of dealing with things.

So Evy left everything to Karma and took a deep breath, and entered Woodstock high school.

It's been a year since Eddy has seen her. He still regrets everything he has done to her. He still remembers each and every moment he has spent with her. He thought about calling her back.

Heck! he even dialed her number numerous times, but he didn't have the nerve to call her after what he did to her. But one thing is for sure; if he gets a chance to meet her, she will forgive him instantly because that's who she is. His best friend. But he doesn't know if he can call her that now.

Well, today is their first day of senior year at Woodstock High, although he is pretty excited about it. But without her, it doesn't feel the same.

Enough about his best friend. Well, Eddy is short for Edward Loraine, the 17-year-old quarterback of the football team of Woodstock high. Yes, you would have guessed that he is popular, and yes, he is also called a so-called player, and that's only because he flirts a lot. And why wouldn't he be as he is a jock with good looks and girls just love him, and the boys want to be like him. He also has good grades, so that's a bonus. Eddy knows that he is arrogant, but hey! Attitude builds up as your popularity increases.

Unlike other people, he loves going to school as he gets all the attention. So yes, he enjoys being the jock of this school. It has its perks, but at the same time, he regrets it. That is because of this popularity; he has lost his best friends. He has tons of friends and knows that they are all fake, but one of them is his loyal friend. His name is Carson. He is the only one now with whom he can be his true self. Maybe that's because during this year, Carson has changed a lot and why wouldn't? He had a reason to change; his girlfriend, Kayla.

Well, today, everyone is excited about coming to school. Every boy hopes to see a new girl student, and every girl hopes to see a new boy student, and guess what? Yes, this year they do have two new students in his batch: a boy and a girl. To be honest, he doesn't care, but for some odd reason, he really wishes that the new girl should be the one who used to be his buddy.

Eddy doesn't even know what he will tell her if she came in front of him. He has no clue how he will react. He knows some people might dread Karma. As they think, Karma is a bitch.

But he doesn't believe in it. He knows that what he did to her was wrong, but she will accept him if he asks for an apology. So how will Karma get back to him? The saying is bullshit. It's just a myth that people believe. If you make a mistake, just apologize and take the corrective measures, and your job is done. So how will Karma get back to you? Well, that's a mystery to him.

This year he has an instinct that lots of surprising stuff are going to take place. It's like he should expect unexpected things for himself.

Well, let's see. Only time will tell.

Hopes up and fingers crossed.

He took a deep breath and asked for his new schedule. Let the new senior year begin.

Chapter 2 Is Karma a Real Thing

Evy took a deep breath and entered the gate of the school. Yes! She was nervous. But unlike usual, it had nothing to do with fear. She can't think of a correct word to describe her feelings.

All in all, she can say that she was excited. Evy was curious to see the reactions of all those people who had made her life miserable in this school. And most importantly, she was anxious to see her best friend. The one who was a rock for her. She was always there when she needed a shoulder to cry on. The one to whom she could say anything and everything. The one who didn't care about her reputation.

The one and only Evy's true best friend, Hailey.

Evy has not been talking much with her in the past year. They did chat once in a while, but nothing major. Her best friend has no clue that she has enrolled her name in this school once again.

As she was entering the gate, Evy got curious glances from the students here. The boys were shamelessly checking her out, and the girls were glaring at her. Ha! First, they used to because she was a nerd and the laughingstock of Woodstock High, but now because the jocks were checking her out.

Losers!

Evy didn't even spare them a single look and confidently entered the school. As she entered, everyone passing in the corridor stopped. They all wanted to have a good look at the new girl. But only if they know who she really is. Evy went to the receptionist and asked for her schedule.

"Hello, I am Evelyn Brook." But she interrupted her.

"New student?" Mrs. Brown head of the admin department of their school asked.

"Kind of," she smiled politely. Evy instantly grew a liking towards her.

"Here's your schedule and the school map, along with your locker number. All your books are already kept in it. Enjoy your first day. Have fun." She said kindly with a smile.

"Thank you, and I am sure I will have some fun here," Evy smirked.

She was walking towards her locker when she crashed into something, or rather someone.

"I am sorr-" She stopped when she looked at who was the person in front of her.

"I am sorry." She said coldly and passed through him without giving him a second glance.

The morning was going smoothly until Eddy crashed into someone. In front of him was the new girl. But something was odd here. He didn't know, but he had a feeling in the pit of his stomach that he knew her from somewhere. He wished that he had a better view of her face.

She gave him the cold shoulder and left. Hot would be an understatement. She was beautiful. She wore skinny black jeans with a red top, and above that, a black leather jacket. She also wore boots that were screaming badass. She had an attitude which was telling him, 'you better not mess with me.'

For some unknown reason, Eddy found her interesting. But there was something he was missing for sure. When she apologized to him with no emotions, it felt as if she knew something he was unaware of.

Eddy met his friends in the boy's common room. Yes! They have separate rooms for boys where all the lockers are furnished. There is no entry for girls there.

Over there, every single male species was talking about the new chick, but not a single person knew her name.

Strange!

Evy went towards the girls' common room to get her books for her first lecture. She was about to step in when her breath hitched. In front of her was her best girlfriend, Hailey. She was standing in all her glory looking at Evy's old locker. She could see how much Hailey missed her and was missing her now.

"Looking at my old locker would not bring me back, Hails," Evy smirked, to which Hailey turned around.

"Evy," she said with a shocking expression on her face.

They both ran towards each other and gave one another one of their bone-crushing hugs. You might be thinking this is such a Lesbos move, but, hey! She is her female soul mate. They have both been through hell together.

"Oh my god! I still can't believe you are here."

"Well, there is one way to make you believe," Evy smirked and pinched her cheek.

"Ouch!" She rubbed her cheek. "Okay, I believe it now."

They were both laughing and hugging. Hailey is a bit shorter than Evy. She is 5'3 whereas Evy is 5'5. She is not too skinny, but not fat either. She is pretty and cute. She is not like other girls who love to expose and wear slutty clothes.

"You look so pretty. The past year has been good for you," she exclaimed.

"I won't argue about that. I hope I have not been replaced." Evy said.

"I miss you, Evy. Nothing was the same without you. I did make a few friends, but no one was special enough to take your place."

"I missed you too, and I made a best friend there-" Her face fell.

"But you know I would call him my second-best friend. No one will ever take your position." She hugged her.

The bell soon interrupted their conversation. It was the signal for their first lecture. Here in Woodstock, there are three bell systems. The first bell is significant for them to make their way towards the class. The second bell is a warning bell that rings after five minutes, and the third is the second warning bell, which indicates that you might get a detention slip if you are not in class.

Cool right!

On their way to class, the girls compared their schedules, and they both were ecstatic to find out that both of them had the same lectures. As the girls entered the class, everyone stopped doing their thing. They were all staring at Evy and giving her curious glances. Ignoring them all, she sat on the bench with Hailey.

"Wow! Evy. You have changed. I mean, you are finally your true self with everyone out there."

"It is time for me to get out of my shell, Hails. You know, there is so much I have to tell you about."

But Evy was interrupted by one of the popular and most arrogant jocks.

"Hey Hailey, hey babe!" Victor said.

Mostly, everyone knew Hailey because she is one of the sweetest people here. You can trust her with anything. She gives friendly vibes to everyone, which attracts them towards her. But because of her down-to-earth and not so slutty attitude, she isn't in the IT group.

"Hey, Victor," Evy said flatly.

"I see you know my name," he smirked.

"Well, I always keep track of people who are on my hate list," she said innocently. Hailey was trying to muffle her laugh with her hand.

"Ouch! That hurts." He faked his hurt tone and kept his hand on his heart. She doubts if he even has a heart.

"And I care because?" Evy raises her eyebrows.

"Who wouldn't care about me? Just look at me." He didn't know how dumb he sounded right now.

"Whatever!"

"At least tell me your name?"

"Well, just say I am your worst nightmare."

Ms. Wendy interrupted their little talk. She is their literature professor. Evy was thankful that this school doesn't have the introduction of a new student. Yes, here the class starts directly. After five minutes, there was a VIP entry of one of the most egoistic and arrogant jocks.

"May I come in?"

"Edward, you are five minutes late. But as it is the start of the New Year, I would spare you from detention. But don't you repeat it again,"

"Thank you, Ms. Wendy." He came inside and stopped. He was looking for an empty seat in the class. And soon, his eyes met hers. Evy didn't want to flash any kind of emotion, so she rolled her eyes and ignored him. After a few seconds, he went towards the back and sat beside one of the biggest bitches in this school, Madeline.

Edwards looked the same as before. She can bet you that he is the same arrogant jerk.

The following three lectures went smoothly, and soon it was lunchtime. Yay! For her, as she just loves eating. Unlike other schools in town, their canteen provides really good food.

Edward was stopped dead in his tracks when he saw those familiar green emerald eyes. When her eyes met his, he could see the hatred in them. The next three lectures were torture for him. Not because of the teachers, but because his mind was filled with thoughts. Not once she glanced his way.

Finally, the bell rang, and she left the class. Eddy wanted to chase behind her, but he was stopped by none other than Madeline. She is very irritating and clingy. He doesn't even know why he stands her. She was the biggest mistake of his life.

Evy and Hailey sat at one of the tables in the canteen. She wasn't a loner in this school. For the past year, she had been part of a group in which there were all kinds of people-geeks, nerds, emo, etc. And actually, Evy finds it cool. She thinks a person should befriend a variety of people instead of hanging out with one type of person.

Evy was informing Hailey about her life back at her old school. During the whole three classes, they had been chatting like a maniac. She really wished Owen was here. He is her best friend from another school. He was his strength there. He is the only reason why Evy can face these monsters.

"Hails, I heard there is a new boy who has enrolled in the school?"

"Yeah, there is. But I have seen no fresh faces-Until now." Hailey was looking behind her.

When she turned back, she could not believe her eyes. Evy stood up and instantly ran towards him. She hugged him hard. He swirled Evy around and pecked her cheek. Evy grabbed his arm and pulled him towards their table.

"Hails, remember I was telling you about my best buddy back in my old school. Well, meet Owen."

"Hello," she said shyly. Hailey is shy. But once she gets along with the person, then this girl can never stop talking.

"Hi, Evy told me so much about you. And finally, I can meet the famous Hailey." He hugged her.

She was blushing hard. And well, even Evy was shocked because Owen hugs no random person. And he was giving her his famous hugs. She knew for a fact that Owen would love Hailey and vice versa when they met.

All three of them were chatting and laughing when Victor interrupted them again.

"Hey, Nightmare. What are you doing here? A girl like you should sit with us. If you want, your friends could also tag along."

"Well, we are pretty fine here," Evy replied, frustration clearly written on her face.

"Oh, come on." Victor insisted.

"Dude, just leave." Owen intervened.

With that, he left us alone. Owen could be scary if he wanted. Then the bell rang, indicating the next lecture.

During the break, Evy found that Owen had shifted to Woodstock and wanted to surprise her. He was glad he did, though. Both her best friends are with her now. And the best part of it was she could see Hailey and Owen becoming best buddies soon.

The next lecture was Evy's personal favorite, the Psychology lecture. And not only was that her favorite teacher, Mrs. Natalia, going to take it. She used to take the Psychology workshop in her old school.

"Look, who do we have here? My favorite students. Owen and Evy." Mrs. Natalia exclaimed.

"The one and only." Owen grinned.

"And you might be the famous Hailey, of whom Evelyn always used to talk about." Mrs. Natalia spoke. Mrs. Natalia also used to be Evy's counsellor. She always used to tell her all about Hailey.

"Well, class, I am Mrs. Natalia Peters, your Psychology teacher and the cultural head of this school," She exclaimed.

"Is she Evelyn Brook?" Madeline asked.

"Yes, she is." Mrs. Natalia confirmed. With that, everyone in the class started talking.

Evy was suppressing her laugh along with Owen and Hails.

"So everyone, you all can get along with Evelyn afterwards. But before that, I have various things to inform you. As you know, Woodstock High is famous for its cultural activities and fests, so this year we have made some changes to the cultural team. Instead of Madeline, Evelyn and Owen will be the new cultural heads. And Edward and Carson are also removed from their assistant posts,"

"What!" Madeline shrieked.

"You might be Madeline. Calm down, girl. You are already the head of the cheerleaders, and Edward is head of football, and Carson, the basketball team captain. And looking at the past two years' records, the statistic has gone low." These made her shut up and shrunk down in her seat.

Mrs. Natalia continued, "So now Evelyn and Owen will be replacing you, Madeline. Don't say anything and let me complete. Evelyn and Owen had done a wonderful job back there in the old school, and the graph is much higher from here. Hailey, you will assist both of them, and you are chosen because I have seen her portfolio, and the rest of the teachers have also recommended you. So, from now on, these are your new heads. I want every one of you to corporate with them. And as for your Psychology class, well, it will start from tomorrow along with the rest of the lecture. You are all dispersed."

With that, everyone left.

Eddy was beyond hurt when he saw Evy hugging the new guy. When he entered the canteen for once, he thought she was running towards him, but she didn't even look at him. Instead, she hugged that guy. However, the guy was good-looking and all, but still. He was their new football player. Apparently, in his old school, he was one of the best players.

Eddy was even shocked when he heard that she, Owen, and Hailey would be the new head of the cultural team. He was not complaining or anything, but he felt like Owen had replaced him, and it stung. And most importantly, she talked about Hailey to Mrs. Natalia. But what about him? Is he nothing to her?

It shocked each and every person when they learned the unknown girl was none other than their old Evelyn Brook. But when Eddy saw her beautiful green emerald eyes of her, he instantly knew who she was.

She was the nerd and the laughingstock of Woodstock high. She has changed a lot. Not as in a change in a bad way, but now her true personality was reflected, which was only known by him and Hailey.

He is glad that she has changed within one year. She has changed for good because now not only Evy but even Owen and Hailey will be considered in their popular crowd. And they do deserve it.

Evy has always been creative along with Hails, and Eddy is glad that they are part of their cultural team. He does not doubt that Evelyn, Hailey, and Owen would be good heads.

Evelyn, Hailey, Owen. He sighed.

It always used to be Evelyn, Hailey, and Eddy. They were like the three musketeers till eight standards. But after that, they also used to hangout. Evelyn was closest to him.

But he can't blame her, though. Eddy has been horrible to not only Evy but also to Hailey. He deserves this.

Is Karma a real thing?

Naah! He doesn't think so. Yes, Evy is angry now, but everything will be back to normal once he asks for an apology. He knows her; she always forgives him. And he knows that she will forgive him again. But first, Eddy needs to give her some space and let her calm down. Once she comes around, he will ask her for forgiveness, and they will be best friends again.

Finally, Evelyn Brook, his best friend, is back.

Chapter 3 Having Doubts

"Hey honey, you back?" Evy's mom asked aloud when she closed the door.

"Yes, mom," she answered her back and moved her feet towards the kitchen.

"How was your school?"

"Usual," she said to her innocently. But as it is said, nothing can be hidden from a mother, so her mom instantly knew that her school went better than usual.

"Of course, honey, your gleaming eyes say that school was fantastic." To which she stuck her tongue out.

"Uh, mom, I have invited Hailey and Owen to hang out. You don't mind, do you?"

"Of course not,"

"Love you, mom," she took an apple and ran to her room.

Evy's room is the favorite part of her home. It is not that huge, nor is it tiny. It is covered with beautiful lavender colored wallpaper, which has a white floral print design. In the middle of her room is her comfy bed. On one side of her room is the study table, which is attached to her bookshelf. On the other side of the room is her dressing table. Unlike other girls, it is not loaded with hundreds of cosmetic items. Instead, it is just filled with basic stuff that every girl needs to have. On the left side of her room is an enormous window. But unfortunately, her window doesn't show her a beautiful view of a beach or a sunset or sunrise. Instead, the view outside her window is the house of the famous Edward Loraine.

Anyway, keeping her thoughts aside, Evy sat on her comfy bed with her laptop resting on her thighs and the pillow supporting her back. She opened the best social networking site which connects you to the world, Facebook. When she left Woodstock, Evy deleted her Facebook account because of her insecurities, but she activated it again when she pulled herself together and started a new life.

When she opened her account, it was filled with messages, notifications, and friend requests. First, she checked her notifications and then messages.

Messages were from a few of her friends asking her about her first day at Rosewood and how they were missing her. So, she replied to their messages, telling them a little about her day here. Last but not the list, she checked friend requests, and it was filled with hundreds of them. She is not lying, nor is she exaggerating. Before a year, she hardly had ten to fifteen friends on her list, and now the entire school wants to add her.

Interesting!

Evy accepted everyone's request. It actually took her an hour and a half to accept all of them, but that's okay. She was kind of enjoying this.

Knock knock!

"Come in!" Evy said loudly.

"Heya," Owen greeted me.

"Gentleman as always," she smirked. But Owen was looking around her room as if he was searching for something -Or she would rather say, someone.

"Hailey will come in half an hour. She had to pick up her little sister."

"Okay. Well, I didn't ask for her." He was scratching the back of his neck.

"Oh, come on, Owen, you need not lie to me. I know that you like her." His eyes were wide.

"I just met her today." He tried to defend himself, but the poor guy always forgets that he can never win an argument with her.

"Yeah, right, that's why you were giving her your famous hugs." Evy rolled her eyes.

"Well, I don't know why I did that, and anyway, she is too good for me."

"Well, I think you both are perfect for each other. In fact, you both will make a cute couple, and both of you are single as well." Said suggestively.

"She is single?" Shock took over him.

"Yeah, she has never had a boyfriend before. Remember, I told you. And you should go for her. I mean come on, you are waiting for the right girl, and she is waiting for the right boy. Maybe you both are right for each other."

"Maybe you are right. I should finally start looking for a girlfriend," he said while rubbing his temple.

"You don't have a girlfriend?" Hailey suddenly blurted out of nowhere.

"Oh yeah, I never found one. How about you?" Owen asked.

"Same here. Well, I can't have a girlfriend, you know," raising her eyebrows.

"Well, you can have one, you know, if you are-" Owen tried to mimic her.

"Ha-ha hilarious, I am very much straight."

"I was just suggesting." He shrugged.

"By the way, Evy, your mom asked you to come down in five minutes to get the snacks," Hails informed her.

"Well, I better get going now." She ran downwards, but before she could enter the kitchen, she heard the doorbell.

Unlike last year, instead of hanging out with his friends, Eddy went straight home after school. He locked himself up in his room. He looked across from the window to have a sneak-peek into Evy's room, but she had drawn the curtains. She never closed them, but the messages were clear that she needed space. He opened his Facebook account and thought of adding Evy to his friend's list. When she left Woodstock, she deleted her account. But he guessed that since she is back now, she might activate her account.

He thought for a minute and decided to send her a friend request. He was a bit apprehensive about the situation and was staring at his laptop for quite some time, but still, there was no reply. When he was about to give up, he had a notification that said Evelyn Brook accepted his friend's request. He took a deep breath. Eddy was glad that she at least accepted his request.

That's a start, right?

After fifteen minutes or so, Eddy's mom called him down and asked him to deliver the cupcakes to Mrs. Brook. He took the cupcakes and made his way towards Evelyn's home. Her mom and his mom are pretty good friends, and so are he and Evy. Well, they were before he goofed everything up.

He pressed the bell and waited for the door to open. He secretly wished for Evy to open it, and luckily his wish was granted. Evelyn was standing in front of the gate with nothing but shorts and a casual loose tee shirt with a frown on her face. She looked adorable.

"Mom asked me to give this cupcake to your mom." He told her. She looked down towards the cupcake, and there was a glint in her eyes. Evy always had a soft spot for sweets. She loves them.

"Mom, Edward is here to see you." Without giving Eddy a second glance, she rushed to her room. She didn't even speak to him, just ignored him.

"Oh, it's you, Eddy." Mrs. Brook came towards the door.

Eddy gave her the cupcakes and was about to leave when Mrs. Brook stopped him.

"Edward, why don't you come and join Evelyn, Owen, and Hailey for their movie marathon?"

"Uh, no. Thank you, Mrs. Brook. I have some work to complete." He immediately made an excuse.

"Okay! And call me Ella; you are family, and as it is, Mrs. Brook makes me feel old."

"Okay, Ella,"

Eddy left and went to the nearby park. He sat on the bench. He was speechless. Every year on the first day of their school, Eddy, Evy, and Hailey used to have a movie marathon. But instead of him, Owen was continuing their tradition. He broke their tradition last to last year as he ditched them for his new friends but never once thought that his action might hurt them.

He even didn't like the way Evy acknowledged him. He felt like a stranger. He remembers once when he treated her the same way when she came to his home to pass a message from her mom to his. Eddy didn't want his friends to tease him or know about the fact that he cared about the beautiful nerd standing in front of his house. But to his dismay, all his pals started laughing at her. Well, he did want them to take it as a joke, but he never thought it would have hurt Evy so much.

The situation was the same, but the only difference was that now the tables have turned.

Now he is really having his doubts about the theory of Karma.
