Chapter 1 Olivia meets Jason

Jason Williams wasn't easily shaken. He had spent years building an empire, perfecting the art of control-over his business, his emotions, and his entire existence. Yet, in a single moment, everything inside him tilted.

It started with a presence.

He wasn't the kind of man who believed in fate, but something in the air shifted, sending a slow, tingling awareness down his spine. He had felt this before-an instinct honed by years of navigating ruthless corporate deals and power-hungry executives. It was the feeling of being watched.

His hand tightened around his glass of bourbon as he turned his head slightly, scanning the room. The bar was dimly lit, the atmosphere buzzing with quiet conversations and the clink of expensive glasses. Then, his gaze landed on her.

A woman sat at the far end of the bar, poised yet effortlessly relaxed, as if she owned the space around her. A half-filled glass of red wine rested between her fingers, and the deep green dress she wore clung to her body like liquid silk. It was elegant, seductive-but not in an obvious way. She didn't need to demand attention. She simply commanded it.

Jason had seen beautiful women before. They were drawn to him, some for his wealth, others for the challenge of taming him. But this woman... she wasn't like them.

She wasn't looking at him the way most did-there was no wide-eyed admiration, no nervous anticipation, no calculated seduction. Instead, her gaze was cool, assessing. Knowing.

As if she had already figured him out.

As if she was waiting for him to do the same.

A slow smirk touched her lips, just enough to be intriguing. Then, with effortless grace, she lifted her glass toward him in a silent toast before taking a slow sip.

Jason's breath hitched. A strange, unsettling heat curled in his chest.

Damn it.

He had spent years mastering control, yet in that single moment, he felt completely undone.

Without thinking, without hesitating, he stood. His movements were smooth, calculated-everything about him screamed composure, power, dominance. He had spent years in boardrooms, negotiating billion-dollar deals, facing men twice his age who underestimated him. This was no different.

Or so he thought.

She didn't flinch as he approached. Didn't shift in her seat or lower her gaze. She was waiting.

Jason slid onto the stool beside her, resting his elbow against the polished bar counter. He was close enough to catch the faint scent of something intoxicating-jasmine, maybe, laced with something darker, richer.

"Was that a challenge," he asked smoothly, tilting his glass toward her, "or an invitation?"

She turned her head slightly, those sharp green eyes studying him with quiet amusement. "Maybe a bit of both," she mused, setting her wine glass down gently.

Her voice was low, sultry, with an edge he couldn't quite place. It sent an uninvited shiver through him.

Jason arched a brow. "Dangerous game to play with a stranger."

She tilted her head. "Are we strangers?"

His pulse kicked harder.

There was something about the way she said it-like she wasn't just talking about this moment, but about something... more. Something just out of reach.

Jason studied her closely, searching for familiarity in the delicate curve of her collarbone, the way her fingers traced the rim of her glass absentmindedly. She wasn't nervous. She wasn't playing coy.

She was in complete control.

He smirked, lifting his bourbon to his lips. "You have me at a disadvantage," he admitted. "You seem to know me, but I don't know you."

A soft chuckle escaped her lips, smooth as silk.

"Maybe that's the fun part."

Jason exhaled a quiet laugh, but inside, something in his instincts warned him to be careful.

This wasn't normal.

This wasn't *safe.*

"Then at least tell me your name," he pressed.

She leaned in slightly, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Olivia."

The name rolled off her tongue like honey-sweet, but with something dangerously potent lurking beneath.

Jason repeated it in his mind. *Olivia.* It suited her. Mysterious. Enigmatic. Unreadable.

He wanted more.

"You're not from around here," he observed.

She took another sip of her wine. "Neither are you."

He smirked, accepting the game. "Fair enough. But I think I would've remembered meeting you before."

Another small, knowing smile played on her lips.

"Maybe," she murmured. "Or maybe you just weren't ready to see me."

The words landed heavier than they should have.

For a moment, Jason felt like the ground beneath him wasn't entirely solid. Like she had pulled something from his past and placed it right in front of him, daring him to recognize it.

Who the hell was she?

He wanted to ask. Needed to. But before he could speak, a soft chime echoed from her phone.

Olivia glanced at the screen. Whatever she saw, it didn't change her expression. Cool. Controlled. As if she had expected it.

Then, with the same effortless grace, she set the phone face down on the bar and stood.

Jason straightened slightly. "Already?"

She reached for her clutch, turning toward him one last time. Those emerald-green eyes locked onto his, and for a split second, he swore she was reading him like an open book.

"We'll meet again, Jason."

His breath caught.

*She knew his name.*

His entire body went rigid.

He never told her his name.

Jason's mind reeled, colliding with questions he had no answers for. Had they met before? Was she someone from his past? A business rival? A socialite who had studied him?

Before he could demand answers, Olivia had already disappeared into the crowd.

Jason turned, scanning the bar.

She was gone.

For a long moment, he just sat there, his fingers tightening around his glass.

Something was wrong.

Something about her felt... inevitable.

And for the first time in his life, Jason Williams had the unsettling feeling that he had just stepped into something he didn't understand.

A game where Olivia held all the cards.

And he had just become her next move.

Chapter 2 Dangerous Attraction

Jason Williams stared at the empty space where Olivia had been just moments ago, his glass of bourbon untouched in his hand. His pulse still thrummed from their brief but electrifying encounter. He never told her his name, yet she had spoken it with quiet certainty, as if she had known him all along.

That should have unnerved him.

But instead, it intrigued him.

Jason wasn't the kind of man who let things go unanswered. His entire empire was built on information, control, and power. Yet, in just a few minutes, Olivia had made him feel like he was playing a game where she alone knew the rules.

His grip tightened around his glass.

Who was she?

And why did he feel like she had been waiting for him?

A Temptation He Can't Ignore

The bartender, an older man with graying hair, approached, wiping his hands on a cloth. "Something on your mind, Mr. Williams?"

Jason's gaze flicked toward him. "The woman who was just here. Olivia. Do you know her?"

The bartender hesitated for a moment before shaking his head. "She's been coming here for a few weeks. Keeps to herself mostly. Doesn't talk much unless she wants to."

Jason narrowed his eyes. "And when she does?"

The bartender chuckled, pouring Jason another drink. "She only talks to the ones she finds interesting."

A slow smirk tugged at Jason's lips. "Lucky me."

But even as he said it, something about Olivia's presence unsettled him in a way he couldn't quite define.

She wasn't just another woman.

She had left an imprint on him, and that was dangerous.

Jason downed his drink, slid a crisp bill across the bar, and stood. As he walked toward the exit, the sound of the rain against the pavement outside mirrored the unease creeping beneath his skin.

He told himself he would let it go.

But deep down, he already knew-he wouldn't.

The Unfinished Game

The resort was quiet at this hour, the luxury of wealth offering solitude rather than crowds. Jason made his way toward the elevator, his mind still lingering on Olivia's cryptic words.

"We'll meet again, Jason."

The way she had said it wasn't a wish or a question.

It was a certainty.

As the elevator doors slid open, Jason stepped inside, running a hand through his hair. He leaned against the wall, watching the floor numbers tick upward.

But just as the doors were about to close-a slender hand reached in.

His breath caught.

Olivia.

She stepped inside, her green eyes meeting his as the doors slid shut behind her. She wasn't surprised to see him. If anything, she looked... amused.

Jason exhaled sharply, turning to fully face her. "You left."

A slow smile curved her lips. "I did."

He tilted his head, studying her. "Then why are you here now?"

She took a step closer, the scent of jasmine and something darker-something intoxicating-filling the space between them. "Because you're not ready to let this go."

Jason felt the air shift. He wasn't used to being read so easily, so effortlessly. Most people tried to impress him, to win his favor. Olivia, on the other hand, seemed to enjoy watching him try to figure her out.

And damn it, he wanted to.

"Are you always this sure of yourself?" he asked, his voice dipping lower.

She chuckled softly. "Only when I'm right." Jason's pulse quickened. There was something about her that defied explanation, something that made him feel like he was standing at the edge of a very dangerous cliff.

And he wasn't sure if he wanted to step back-or jump.

The elevator chimed, signaling their arrival. Olivia stepped out first, her posture poised, regal.

Jason followed, something pulling at his chest as she walked ahead of him. She moved like she belonged here, like she belonged anywhere she decided to be.

And just as he was about to ask her more, Olivia suddenly stopped.

Jason barely avoided colliding with her as she turned, looking up at him with an intensity that sent a sharp jolt through his spine.

"You don't remember, do you?" she murmured.

His brow furrowed. "Remember what?"

Her gaze flickered with something unreadable before she took a step back, her voice softer now. "Nothing."

But it wasn't nothing.

Jason could feel it in his bones-there was something about Olivia, something he was supposed to remember.

But why couldn't he? That night, Jason barely slept.

His mind kept circling back to Olivia-her voice, her knowing smirk, the way she had looked at him like he was supposed to recognize her.

Frustrated, he sat up in bed and grabbed his phone. He had resources. Connections. People who could dig up information on anyone, anywhere. What will I do to unravel her?

Chapter 3 A Night of Suspense

That night, Jason barely slept.

His mind kept circling back to Olivia-her voice, her knowing smirk, the way she had looked at him like he was supposed to recognize her. Every time he closed his eyes, her piercing green gaze burned through the darkness, as if daring him to uncover the truth.

It made no sense.

He had spent his life surrounded by powerful people-business moguls, politicians, and socialites who all sought his attention. But Olivia was different. She wasn't trying to impress him. If anything, it felt like she was the one in control.

And then there was her name.

Olivia Bennett.

The same last name as his mother before she married his father.

Coincidence? He didn't believe in those.

Frustrated, Jason threw off the sheets and got out of bed. He paced the dimly lit suite, running a hand through his hair. He needed answers.

And he needed them now.

An Invitation He Can't Resist

His phone vibrated on the nightstand. Jason snatched it up, half expecting a message from Olivia. But it was a notification from an unknown number.

Meet me at the rooftop lounge. Midnight.

Jason's pulse quickened. He checked the time-11:45 PM.

He didn't even hesitate.

Grabbing a jacket, he stepped into the cool night air. The resort's rooftop lounge was reserved for VIPs, a secluded spot with breathtaking views of the city skyline. As he ascended in the elevator, Jason's mind raced.

If this was Olivia... what did she want from him?

And if it wasn't... then who the hell was waiting for him?

A Game of Secrets

The rooftop was nearly empty except for a single figure standing by the glass railing, overlooking the glittering city below.

Olivia.

She was dressed in a sleek black dress that clung to her curves, the moonlight casting an ethereal glow around her. She didn't turn as he approached, as if she had already known he would come.

"Couldn't sleep?" she asked softly.

Jason stopped a few feet away. "You knew I wouldn't."

A small smile ghosted across her lips. "Then we're alike in more ways than one." Jason's chest tightened. What the hell did she mean by that?

He stepped closer, his voice low. "You disappeared earlier."

"I told you," she murmured, finally turning to face him. "Some connections are dangerous."

Jason studied her face, searching for cracks in her carefully crafted mystery. "Then why did you ask me to meet you?"

She exhaled, brushing her fingers against the condensation forming on her glass. "Because I want to know if you're as dangerous as they say."

Jason's jaw clenched. He wasn't sure whether to be intrigued or insulted. "Who's 'they'?"

Olivia tilted her head. "The ones who whisper your name in boardrooms and back alleys. The ones who fear the empire your family built."

Jason's pulse hammered in his throat. "And what about you, Olivia? Do you fear me?"

She held his gaze, unflinching. "No."

Jason took another step forward. "Then what do you want from me?"

A slow, almost wicked smile spread across her lips. "To see if you can handle the truth."

Jason's breath hitched. There was something in her eyes-something dangerous, something that told him if he pushed further, he might not like what he found.

But he couldn't stop himself. He needed to know.

Revealing Shadows

Jason reached for his phone, quickly pulling up the research he had done on her. "Your name," he said, his voice steady, "is Olivia Bennett."

She didn't react.

He continued, watching her closely. "My mother's maiden name is Bennett."

Olivia sipped her drink, unbothered. "I know."

Jason's grip tightened around his phone. "Then tell me-who are you to me?"

A long silence stretched between them, heavy with unspoken words. Then, Olivia finally spoke.

"You're asking the wrong question."

Jason frowned. "What?"

Olivia stepped closer, her breath warm against his skin. "Instead of asking who I am, you should be asking why your mother never told you about me."

Jason's stomach twisted.

He had expected denial, a brush-off-anything but this.

Olivia reached into her purse, pulling out a folded napkin. She pressed it into his palm, her fingers lingering for just a moment too long.

"I think you're ready to start finding the answers," she murmured. Jason's heart pounded as he unfolded the napkin. A number was scrawled across it, but that wasn't what sent ice down his spine.

It was the two words written beneath it.

Ask Evelyn.

Jason's blood ran cold.

His mother.

A Truth He's Not Ready For

Jason looked up, ready to demand more, but Olivia was already walking away.

"Wait-" He reached for her, but she was gone.

As if she had never been there at all.

Jason stared down at the napkin, his pulse racing.

His mother had always been guarded about her past. And now, for the first time, Jason had a lead-one that led directly to Evelyn Williams.
