In Love With My Driver

Prologue

Immediately after her College and a Masters degree, Melinda Davis was taught the ropes and skills of how to run and cope in the business world. Being an only child and heir to her Parents empire, Melinda had no choice but to take over as the CEO as soon as her dad retired.

Melinda is the apple eye of her parents and they loved her so much. She was the miracle Raymond and Michelle waited for all their lives. Raymond and Michelle Davis are Melinda's parents. Melinda was conceived at the later years of their marriage. Raymond was 48 and Michelle just clocked 40 when they gave birth to Melinda.

Melinda brought so much joy to the lives of her parents, right from the moment she was born. Raymond and Michelle are so proud of the way she handles the Company. They couldn't have asked for a better daughter than Mel.

Melinda was so much loved by her parents. She could not even ask for better parents than Raymond and Michelle. She was also loved by her best friends. Nate and Desourire. The trio have been best friends since high school and Melinda considered them as the brother and sister she never had. Nate is 26 and is already the CEO of his own company. Desourire is just like Melinda's twin, they are both 25 and she owns an art supply store which is one of the biggest in the city of Philadelphia.

One can say at the age of 25, Melinda had it all. But deep down, she was not as happy as people think she is. No one actually knows what you are going through unless they are in your shoes. Melinda has never experienced what is called "A true love." She needed someone who will love her genuinely, she needed a soul mate, the bone of her bone and the flesh of her flesh. Someone who will love her till eternity and not someone who wants to be with her to get a fortune out of her.

That's right. Guys were always after Melinda. Not because they love her. But because they wanted her money and wanted to be associated with the only daughter of the richest man in the city.

We are all human and we make mistakes. But Melinda blamed herself for marrying Frank. It was probably the worst mistake she had ever made. She blamed herself for being so stupid to fall in love with Frank when he was only after her for her money.

She got married to Frank six months ago. Frank never loved her. He just wanted her for her money and fame so he pretended to be loving and even went the extra mile to be romantic to make Mel fall in love with him. Nate and Desourire warned Mel against marrying Frank but she was too enveloped in his deceit to see the true side of him.

Few weeks after their marriage, Frank started showing his true colours and Melinda later discovered that he is no different than the others she had dated.

Melinda had put in for a divorce but Frank refused to give her the divorce. The disgusting part of everything is that when Mel finally decided to give herself to him in bed, She found out that he was impotent. Frank keeps on blaming Mel that she's the reason for his impotence as he is always potent with other girls.

What do you expect from Frank? He's sure sleeping with other women while married to Melinda.

Melinda has hired the best Divorce lawyer in the city to help her because she wants to get rid of Frank as soon as possible. But while the lawyer is still working on her case, Melinda vows never to give her heart to anyone again. She vows never to fall in love again.

But what happens when Melinda come across her newly hired Driver?

Will she give in to her feelings for him?

Will the Driver's love for Mel be real or will he be after her money like the others?

Melinda has been avoiding her driver, Alexander, for almost a week now. She was so embarrassed about what happened between them the last time and could not even bring herself to look him in the eye. Melinda's mind kept on flashing back to that night but she keeps on convincing herself that it was a mistake that never should have happened as they were both caught up in that moment.

Melinda was attracted to Alexander from the very first day he was hired as her driver. She just shrugged it off thinking its a short term crush which will not last for more than a week. Unfortunately, the seven days became weeks and weeks became months and Mel came to realise that, the more she was pushing Alexander away, the more she was falling for him. But she refused to give in to the attraction.

Even though Alexander feels the same way and has made several approaches towards Melinda, She still refuses to admit what she feels for him. Alexander knew Mel was very much attracted to him as he was attracted to her.

After the long-heated-passionate kiss they shared the other night, Melinda has been trying all her best to stay away from Alexander. When Alex picks her up in the morning from her Apartment to drive her to work, She always ignores him, pretending to be busy with work, typing away on her laptop and sometimes she might be on a call throughout the whole ride to her office. She does that just to avoid making any conversation with him.

To make things worse, Melinda has been receiving text messages from him which of course she has been ignoring. Alexander was really making her feel what she does not want to feel and she's not comfortable with it.

On a normal night, After the day's work, Melinda usually dismisses Alex and insist she will drive herself home. But this Thursday night, Melinda was so tired and had no choice but to allow Alex to drive her home.

The drive from Melinda's Office to her Apartment was very quiet. She kept herself busy by looking through the window at the beautiful streets of Philadelphia. She could often see Alex steal a glance at her from the front Mirror. Again, she pretended not to notice that.

Immediately Alex packed the car in front of her Apartment, Melinda quickly grabbed her handbag and laptop bag, wanting to leave Alex presence as soon as possible. But as soon as she came down from the car, She was greeted by Alex who was already standing in front of her, giving her that "I will not allow you go until we talk about what happened look."

"Melinda we need to talk, " Alexander said. He tends to call her by her first name whenever they are alone. She loved it whenever her name rolled out of his tongue. It sent shivers down her spine as goose pimples started to erupt from her body.

"We have nothing to talk about." Melinda scoffed.

"Yes, we do. We have to talk about us, the Kiss. Mel you can't keep pretending nothing is going on between us." Alex replied, clearly frustrated as he ran his fingers through his hair.

"Nothing is going on between us and the kiss meant absolutely nothing to me alright, " Melinda said and started to work away.

Before she could walk that far, Alex grabbed her shoulders and pulled her back.

"You are not leaving here without talking about what you feel for me, Melinda. Just let go of your stubbornness and your pride and admit what you feel for me." Alexander said with a very serious voice.

"I feel nothing for you, Alexander, Don't you get it?" Melinda replied with so much anger.

Alexander took a few steps towards Melinda and caressed her cheeks. "You have no idea what you are doing to me, Melinda. Being furious makes you even look hotter." Alexander said and Melinda tried not to show how much his words affected her. She also tried to ignore the tingling sensations between them Immediately his skin contacted hers.

"The kiss.... For me, it was something. It was magical. What I felt was unexplainable and I know you felt it too." Alex said, looking straight into her beautiful eyes.

"Get your filthy hands off me, " Mel said as she removed his hands away from her face. "Stop saying those words to me, I don't ever want to hear them again. The kiss meant nothing to me. It was a mistake, it never should have happened. I was drunk so I didn't know what I was doing." Melinda defended.

"But Mel......." Alex started to say something before She cut him off.

"You are probably saying those words to me because you want to seduce me for your own use. Perhaps to get a rise in pay or something. I'm not that naive Alex and I will never fall into your trap. Remember your position here. I am the Boss and you are my employee. Make sure you never cross that line again. And stay away from me." Melinda shouted at him after which she stormed out of his sight.

As Melinda entered into her Apartment, She saw greeted by Rhoda. A very pretty energetic woman in her early 40's. Rhoda works for Melinda's parents at the Davis Mansion but she comes to Melinda's apartment once a week to clean and do some cooking. Melinda had known Rhoda since she was little. She was like a second mom to her.

Melinda replied Rhoda's greetings and crashed on the couch in the living room. She was tired, feeling guilty and confused at the same time as she did not fail to notice the sadness on Alexander's face when she blasted him.

"I guess you were too harsh on him my dear, " Rhoda said as she took a seat beside Melinda. She knows about the attraction between Mel and Alex.

"Was I that loud?" Mel asked with a sad face.

"Not really. But loud enough for me to hear." Rhoda chuckled and Melinda exhaled.

"Do you feel anything for him?" Rhoda asked, turning her full attention to Melinda.

"I don't know.... Maybe I do. But I'm not sure. When I'm beside him, I feel things I have never felt before." Melinda said after which she buried her face in her hands.

"I was not trying to be rude to him Rhoda. This is very unlike me. It's just that, I've told him severally to stay away from me but he keeps coming back to torment me." Melinda said trying to hold back tears.

She eventually burst into tears and Rhoda pulled her into a hug. Even Mel does not know why she was crying. Was it guilt? she could not even comprehend what it was.

Melinda finally pulled away from the hug and Rhoda used her thumb to wipe her tears.

"I understand you, dear. I know you have made up your mind to never give in to any man again. But Alex could be different, he could be the one for you. Not everyone will be like that horrible Frank you know." Rhoda said.

"I thought he was like others. Planning to seduce me. You know, to get a rise in his pay or something like that." Melinda said clearly ashamed.

"You know you shouldn't think that low of him. Alex is a loving guy and very honest also. Your parents trusted him and that's why he was sent over here to be your driver. You know what? I trust him too and I know he will never do anything to hurt you." Rhoda said.

"Thanks, Rhoda. I will apologise to him."

"Any news from the lawyer about the divorce?" Rhoda asked.

"He called me today and said he has presented the case along with the evidence to the judge and that the judge should probably get to us by next week, " Melinda said and Rhoda nodded.

"Go freshen up dear, I will heat dinner for you, " Rhoda offered.

"Don't worry Rhoda I'm not hungry, " Mel said.

"You sure?" Rhoda asked with her eyebrow raised

"Yeah. I'm okay." Mel assured.

"Okay then. I guess I will take my leave now." Rhoda stood to her feet and Mel did the same.

"Be safe Rhoda, My regards to Mom and Dad, " Mel said while pulling Rhoda into a hug.

"Will do that. Take care darling." Rhoda said and then she took her leave.

Melinda proceeded to her room and went to freshen up after which she sat on her bed and decided to do some work on her laptop.

About half an hour later, Melinda got tired and decided to call it a day.

She grabbed her phone and saw that she had a new text message from Alexander. She opened it and it read thus...

"your words really hurt me tonight Melinda. It breaks my heart to see that you think very low of me. What I feel for you is real. I don't want your money or riches. All I want is you, Melinda. You may keep pushing me away. But know that, I will never stop fighting for you!"

Sleep tight, Alexander.

Melinda barely had any sleep last night. She kept on thinking about Alexander. Maybe Rhoda was right. Alex could be a different guy. But she is scared to give in to him. She didn't want to get hurt again.

She could not even bring herself to reply to Alex's text message yesterday. She kept typing and erasing for like twelve times. She didn't know what to type as so she decided she was going to apologise to him in person, today.

Melinda had dressed up for today's work, She just finished having breakfast when she heard the doorbell ring. She stood up from the dining table, straighten her clothes and walked towards the door.

She opened the door and saw Alexander standing on the other side, looking more handsome than she could recall yesterday. Melinda did not know how long she kept staring at him until she was brought out of her trance by Alex's voice.

"Good morning Miss Davis, " He greeted.

Melinda does not know why but she felt a certain pain in her heart when Alex called her Miss Davis. But she couldn't blame him. She had told him last night that their relationship should be strictly professional and nothing more.

"Morning Alex, " Mel said, clearly embarrassed. It was obvious that he noticed she was checking him out.

"I just came to tell you that the car is ready, " Alex said, after which he turned his back to take his leave.

"Alex wait, " Mel requested and Alex turned back to face her.

"Can I talk to you for a second, Please?" Melinda asked and Alex nodded.

She opened the door wider for him to come in and he did. After which she closed the door behind her.

Melinda was nervous. It was Alex who did the talking most of the time. He used to be the one to initiate their conversation. But now it's the other way round and she was as nervous as hell but she began anyways.

"Alexander. I'm so sorry for the way I reacted yesterday. I shouldn't have acted that way and neither should I have shouted at you. I'm deeply sorry and I hope you forgive me." Mel said while looking at him straight in the eye.

Alex could see nothing but remorse and truth in her eyes.

He sighed and walked closer to her. "Its okay Mel. I forgive you." Alex said and Mel exhaled. It was a sigh of relief. She was glad he forgave her and did not insist on Miss Davis this time around.

"Even if you say otherwise, that you don't feel anything for me, I know its a lie because your eyes don't lie. They tell it all. Trust me, Melinda, This is one of the hardest things I have ever done. To admit to my boss that I'm deeply in love with her. I just want you to fight for me the way I am fighting for you. What we have between us is not something that can be ignored. I understand you are going through a lot now, with your divorce and all. And I'm ready to wait for you until you are ready. I'm ready to defend our love to everyone. But if you don't want me because I'm your employee, just tell me and I will understand" Alex said while looking straight into her eyes.

"Come on, let's get going, you don't want to be late for work, " Alex said as he patted Melinda's shoulder and exited her Apartment.

It took a while for Melinda to move from the spot she was standing. Alex words had really touched her, leaving her speechless and more confused.

Later at the office.

It was 5:03 pm and Melinda had just finished a board meeting which was held in the conference room. As she entered her Office, She was pulled into a very tight hug by Desourire.

"Wow, look who we have here, " Desourire said in a sing-song voice as she kept on hugging Melinda.

It was a Friday. Melinda usually spends her Friday nights with her best friends. Not all Fridays but most Fridays.

"Dee, I missed you, " Mel said as she pulled away from the hug.

"When did you get here. Hope you have not been waiting that long. Sorry, the Board Meeting took longer than usual." Mel said as she walked behind her desk to take a seat While Dee sat across her.

"Just got here about 12 minutes ago, "

"I missed you, Dee. I can't believe you went for a whole two weeks." Mel said.

Desourire had not been around for a while. She went to Australia to visit her cousin who just gave birth.

"Yess baby. I know you miss me and I miss you more." Dee Chuckled.

So where will we be going today?" Melinda asked as she started to pack her bag and clear her table.

"My house, " Dee replied.

"hmm. Not bad."

"What about Nate?" Mel asked.

"He said he will meet us there. He's trying to wrap up what he's doing in the office." Dee replied.

"Let's get going. We still have to branch the grocery and get some ingredients for dinner. Expect you and Nate want to starve or feed on Pizza tonight." Dee said.

"No way. we are not going to starve neither are we feeding on junks tonight. I missed your cooking babe. We are eating your homemade dish." Mel said with a hungry look.

"Alright. But you will help me with the cooking." Dee said.

"No way. A guest is not meant to do anything rather than to sit and enjoy while the owner of the house does the cooking." Mel said.

"Whatever, Let's just go, " Dee smiled. She knew her best friend was Lazy when it comes to kitchen work. So she will have to ask Nate for help. Nate is a great cook too. But Mel prefers Dee's food to Nate's.

"Did you come with your car?" Mel asked as they walked towards the parking lot.

"No dear. I came in a Taxi. So I'm tagging with you." Dee replied.

As they almost approached Mel's car, they could already see Alexander, standing beside the car that leads to the entrance of the Driver's seat. Melinda walked towards him while Desourire walked towards the side of the passenger's seat.

Mel started feeling butterflies in her stomach as she approached Alex.

"Hmm Alex, don't worry about me. You are free to go home. Desourire and I are going somewhere so I will do the driving."? Mel said nervously while tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

Melinda is always bold whenever she talks to people. But whenever she's with Alex, she was always nervous and out of words and Alex noticed that too. He didn't like the fact that she was shy around him. He wanted her to be comfortable and to be herself whenever she was around him.

"Alright, " Alex said with a low voice and handed her the car keys.

Alexander's fingers brushed against Mel's own and Mel shivered as she felt a tingling sensation run down her spine. They both stared at each other for a while before Mel broke the silence.

"Have a nice weekend. I will call you if I need anything." Mel said and Alex nodded before taking his leave.

Melinda opened the back seat to drop her bag before settling down into the driver's seat. She Sighed a loud sigh as her head hit the headrest.

"I think my best friend is in Love" Dee giggled.

"Dee please don't start again." Mel groaned.

"No problem. But as soon as we get to my Apartment, you must tell me everything. What I missed for the past two weeks" Dee said.

"You wish" Mel mumbled and Dee put up a sad face.

.........after dinner...........

"From what you have said Mel, I think he really likes you, " Dee said with a sad smile.

"I've always known that, " Nate said after which he took a sip of his red wine.

The three best friends just had dinner and now they are sitting in the living room, talking and entertaining themselves with some wine. Mel just told them about all that had transpired between her and Alex for the past two weeks.

"I've never been so confused in my life, " Mel said as she rubbed her forehead with her right hand.

"There's no big deal about it Mel. It's up to you if you really want to give him a chance." Dee said.

"Yes, Mel. Even though you haven't said the word directly and literally. I know you like Alex and I think you should give him a try. At least, you should get to know him and see how things go." Nate reasoned.

"I will think about it. I really don't want to be in any relationship for now. I want the divorce with frank to be over first. I just feel so stupid that I fell into his trap." Mel said with regret.

"Don't worry Mel, I'm sure the judge will rule in your favour" Dee assured.

"Okay enough of the sad talk about me. What's up with you guys." Mel said trying to change the atmosphere.

"Well, there's this Girl Nate met and he's crazy about her." Dee squealed and Nate blushed instantly.

"No way. Tell me about it. When do we get to meet her." Mel said after which she dumps her empty glass of wine on the table as she prepares to hear all that Nate had to tell her about this girl.

.......Hours Later......

Mel came out of her bathroom in her white towel and stepped into her walk-in closet to put on her comfy pyjamas for bed. She just came back from Dee's place not quite long. She loves spending time with her friends. As Mel was applying her face treatment, her phone made a beep, indicating she had a message.

She walked out of her bathroom and reached for her phone on the bed. It was a message from Alex.

"I'm trying to fall asleep but I can't stop thinking about you." Alex

Melinda blushed as she playfully bit her fingers thinking of what to type.

"I hope they are good thoughts."Mel.

"Better than you can ever imagine. I'm happy you replied. Hope you enjoyed dinner with your friends." Alex.

Mel smiled as she read his reply. She had never replied to any of his messages and this would be the first.

"Yeah. I had fun. Thanks for asking.".

"So, what are you doing? I hope you are not working at this time." Alex.

"No. Just had a shower. Preparing myself for bed.

" Alright then. Let me leave you to rest. Sweet dreams. I hope I'm in them." Alex.

"Goodnight." She replied him.

Melinda slept with a big smile on her face. She was happy she's on good terms with Alex. At least it's a good start for both of them.
