His breath on my face felt warm, sweat dripping down my face, my hands struggling "Please leave me!!" I yelled, my eyes welling up with tears, my wrists wrangled by his adult arms, his grip gaining control, I could hear my mother's wailing "Mother" I called out, reaching for her hand.
"You are weak, just like your father!" He cackled, the dark figure said, but he wasn't faceless this time, his scrawny smile pushing my fears forward, his arms pulling me away from my mother's reach.
"Skai!!" I heard my mother scream for me, her eyes welling up with tears "Please she's all I have" I heard her wail, Tilard, my uncle had no ears but wouldn't listen as he whisked me away.
"You'll make a fine slut" he said smiling mischievously, the last I heard before it was all pitch black and my own voice.
Adjusting my sheets, opening my eyes to see the room still, ragged clothes on the floor, the spilled cans of vidkon beer sprawled on the floor, the cold sweats on my face, I used my hands, trying so hard to wipe them away.
"It's the same dream, all over again" I muttered to myself as I looked at the mirror in the washroom, my eyes gaining dark circles, looking down to my chest, my body bare.
"Roll call!" I heard the matron yell, his voice as hoarse as ever.
It was time to get ready, dashing out quickly, taking my black uniform, the black shirt and suit which was always the perfect combo, making me invisible to others, yet I stood out, coming out first in the agency was an amazing feat, one to never be traded for money or anything else.
Taking the binder to my chest, wrapping it tightly. It's been two years in the agency and everyone calls me by name Enzo, the swift killer.
I looked in the mirror, my hair getting the best of itself, growing longer, immersed in my reflection, Suddenly there was a loud banging on the door, awakening my mind, causing me to stop.
"Enzo, we're gonna be late" he said from outside, it was Bruno, my colleague and maybe mentee.
"Be out in a second" I answered, my deepened voice echoed.
The moment I wore the suit, I felt whole again, the female body I owned brought me nothing but pain and futile struggle, now I'm on my path to freedom.
"Today, you'll be dispersed to companies in need of bodyguards, you will be well behaved and show them what you're made of!" Commander said in a hoarse tone.
"Sir, yes sir!" We answered in unison.
"Where are you deployed to?" Bruno asked, elated, his calm notion made me smirk "The BER corp" I answered, sliding my hands into my pocket.
"That's so you, great bodyguard, big company" he added, slightly punching my arm.
"Thanks, what about you?" I asked, rolling the sleeves of my suit.
"Well..I'm going back home, to see my family" he said, his eyes softening.
"Goodluck then" I said, patting his back, proceeding to walk away.
"I'll see you when I see you" he said from behind, too focused to look back, I waved slightly, walking to my deployed station.
Taking a cab straight to the company was the straightest I'd been all my life at the agency, from code red jobs of saving hostages to silver coat badges jobs of rescuing important people from the clutches of kidnappers, I had never used the front door.
Yet, here I am, looking at what seems to be a skyscraper with the large words written 'BER CORP', I adjusted my suit, my sleeves rolled to my elbow.
"Do you have an appointment?" The lady with a skimmish body feature asked from behind the counter.
"Yes, with Juliano Bernard" I said calmly, her eyes looked up to me, watching me as though I didn't belong in their high end company or have the right to have access to her employer.
"Name, please?" she asked, looking down at the computer that sat right in front of her.
"Enzo" I answered casually, she furrowed her brows at me.
"No last name?" She asked again "No, no last name" I answered, not giving her the benefit of doubt that I'd care if she wouldn't let me in.
"Sir, I can't check your your appointment without a last name" she said, her voice becoming unsettling.
"And I don't have a last name" I said, almost ticking her off. "I can't let you in then" she said, angrily.
"But I'm going in" I answered and without hesitation two men stood behind me, I could feel their strength from behind, their towering bodies standing firm.
"Sir, you have to leave!" She ordered "Take him away" she said, her voice in a high pitch, attracting the attention of others.
"Okay, okay, but I think you should first deal with those shady men who just walked in" I said, pointing to the two men in suits who casually walked in by flashing a card at the entrance.
"They're employees" the lady scoffed "No they're not, they don't have the employee tag like everyone else, they seem professional and all but by seem to be going to the wrong elevator, the CEOs personal elevator" I pointed out calmly.
"Oh my God, get them!" She yelled, realising what had just happened, it was too late for them, the men were already taking the private elevator.
"I'll handle it" I said calmly, rushing after them, using the stairs. 'My first day on the job and it's already hectic' I thought to myself as I raced up the flight of stairs.
The huge men who had once threatened to throw me out, following right after.
"You both, intercept them using the other elevator, I'll take it from here" I said, they turned to each other.
"Are you seriously thinking right now?!" I said, shaking my head at them.
"Okay sir" they said in unison running back to the elevator.
It wasn't my first time on a chase, I ran through, reaching the fifth floor, the CEO's office hallway.
The two professionally dressed men seemed to have caught on, the moment the elevator door opened, they bolted out.
"Stop right there!" One of the security guards warned.
Intercepting their little run, I rushed at them, taking a baton to his head and hitting the other with an elbow slam, I could see his face topple.
They had been incapacitated, slightly.
"Get them out of here" I ordered, rolling my sleeves back up, just then a lady stepped out of the room.
"What's going on here" she said, seeing two grown men sprawled on the floor on a Monday morning is not the usual sight to behold.
"Hello, my name's Enzo, I'm the CEO's new bodyguard" I said, extending my hand for a handshake introducing myself calmly to frightened dark haired lady.
Skai's POV
I peeked through the glass door "Dad you can't do this, why would I need a bodyguard?"
A young man asked, his hands in the air 'dramatic' I thought. "Let him in" I heard a calm restrained voice say from inside.
"Sir, you may come in" the young lady said, pursing her lips as she spoke, I walked past, trying my best not to watch her eyes as they stared seductively.
"Enzo" the older man said immediately, his calm notion and knowledge about my name showing that he's in fact my employer.
"Nice to meet you sir" I answered, my face still candid, extending my hand for a shake.
"I've heard a lot about you" he added, taking a stand.
"I'm here as per your request, mister Bernard" I said casually, hands behind my back as trained.
"Here's my son, Juliano, he's the one you'll be keeping safe" he said, pointing to the dark haired man who sat idly, his gaze was low, letting out an eerie vibe.
"You make it seem like I need a babysitter" Juliano said, his head turning to me.
"You have had attempted assassinations against your life, doesn't that bother you?" His father asked, concern in his voice.
His son's expression, candid and unwavering "He doesn't even seem bigger than I am, if you were choosing someone for me wouldn't you take someone with a bigger build?" He asked, in a state of mockery.
Almost immediately after he stopped talking, the young lady at the counter bolted through the door
"Please forgive my intrusion" she said in between deep breaths, panting, her nicely done hair loosing it's elegance.
"The..men..they, they escaped and are somewhere in the building" she said, her voice trailing off.
"What men?" Juliano asked, his candid expression faded immediately, turning into anxiety.
"The men from earlier?" I asked, my interest piqued.
"Please stay here, mister Bernard, stay put" I added, heading for the door.
The problem wasn't about making them gone, it was about finding out where they could be in the building.
"How do we find them in the building?" The husky man in black asked, a security guard like the rest of them, hands on his waist.
"Shut all exits" I heard another say into a telecom "Let me have that!" I said ordered, snatching the telecom.
"All stations report to the entrance, The CEO is making to leave" I said, whoever these men were, they were professionally trained to intercept transmission, that is exactly what I needed.
'Now, their target is headed for the entrance as they thought, they'll find a way to get there too, without people's notice.
"You, you, stay low, go downstairs, I'll be in the CEO's office" I said, pointing to the two men in uniform.
My suspicions were right, one of them was already seen walking to the exit, as informed by the security men.
Walking stealthily, calmly, holding my breath time after time.
Looking through the corner of my eye, i could see his dark figure approaching the doors as well.
I was already closing in on him, "Looking for me?" I asked, making him turn to me, taking him by surprise, a kick to the lower abdomen did the trick.
"Who do you work for?" I asked, taking his collar tightly, as just then Juliano walked into the hallway.
"What's going on?" He asked, clueless to the situation.
"No, no, no" I muttered, holding tightly onto the man in a dark mask and dim light.
His hands were swift, taking what seemed to be a knife, he pushing me away, jabbing right at me, using the cross technique taught in training, I halted, took the knife from his hand.
'Whoever he is, he's quite skilled' I thought to myself as I used my feet to push his knees backwards, crippling him.
"It's over!" I said, looking at his cap and dark face mask, impulsively, I felt a chill down my spine.
"It's not over yet" he muttered under his breath, the next second, I saw what seemed like a flying piece of metal, 'Shit!' I thought, as quickly as I could, it was a blade and now it was stuck to my back.
"Oh God!" Juliano exclaimed as I fumbled to my knees, the blade hanging out "I'm...fine" I muttered, holding him as my support to come back up, the man who attempted such a stunt already sprawled on the ground.
"Please take him to the hospital" Juliano said to the security man who stood, frozen at the sight of damp clothing on me.
"I'm okay" I said, pushing him aside "Get him to the police, or else.." I instructed. They had lost the two men before, what is the probability they wouldn't lose him again.
"You're hurt pretty bad" Juliano said, his hand on my shoulder as I crouched down, the pain lingering on my abdomen.
"It's not that deep" I said casually.
"Can you help me take the knife out?" I asked him, watching the panic in his eyes.
"No! You need a hospital...a doctor!" He said, his eyes showing so much fear.
"Why would you risk your life like that?" He asked, taking me up carefully, putting my arm around his neck, helping me walk.
"It's my job" I answered sharply, the knife causing more damage in a still position.
"If you won't pull it out, let someone else pull it out" I said, the moment I sat in his office, a blood damped cloth on my body.
"I'll call the ambulance instead" he said, it was futile, a daddy's boy, ofcourse doing something like this would be impossible.
The moment he pulled his phone to dial, I took hold of the metal blade sticking out, carefully, taking a piece of my wrap in my mouth, I carefully pulled it out.
"What are you doing?!" He yelled at me, his phone falling to the ground.
The knife had been removed, taking the wrap out of my mouth "You wouldn't do it... and I can't wait for the ambulance, it's not a difficult wound" I said, propping the knife to the side, long and wringed of fresh blood.
"Get me some tissues" I ordered, his face and body in utter panic and frustration, his body in discomfort, frozen to a place.
"Now!" I added, making him move.
I took out my suit 'Can't let the hospital know I'm a female, I'll have to treat myself instead' I thought to myself, taking the tissue.
"Le..let me help you with that" he said, taking the tissue to my back.
"Thanks, I can do it alone, the security men will take my work from here, I can handle myself" I said, blood trickling down my back, I could feel it, it wasn't different from anything I had done in the past, just less bloody.
"Please, at least go the hospital" He suggested. "It's not that serious" I said, until I felt my knees to the ground, my eyes feeling heavy 'Fuck no' I thought to myself before it was all pitch black.
Skai's POV
"Skai, your father loves you" his voice was calm, just like always, I felt his arms, my smile drawing wider on my lips until it was all laughter.
"I love you too daddy" I said, clutching my father's hand tightly but the moment was short lived.
Suddenly the clean odor of antiseptics, the sharp smell, filling my lungs, I soon felt a hand on my body, feeling a surge of energy, I pulled my eyelids apart, a man in a white coat, his hand on my shirt, a pair of scissors in his hand.
"Oh, you're awake" he said "We might need to give him sedatives" the man said, his white coat, glasses and fragile demeanor meant only one thing, he was the doctor.
"I'm fine" I said, trying to muster the manliest voice I could.
"You need medical attention" the doctor said, reaching out to my shirt.
"I'm okay doctor" I said, pulling out the wire from my arm.
"Sir, please... you need to settle down" the man said, I couldn't hear him speak, the sharp pain had migrated from my back to my side "I'm alright, really" I said, using the soft bed as a support material as I stood up.
"Enzo, what do you think you're doing?" Juliano's voice emerged from the curtains, separating me from other patients who laid in the general ward.
"I'm..ugh..I'm fine" I answered, holding my sides.
"Give him the sedatives" the doctor said, his voice was low, my hearing piqued.
"I'm not taking a sedative" I said firmly, looking at the doctor, now standing upright, turning to Juliano "Just drop me off at the agency".
"You're injured" he said as I wrapped my hand on his neck, taking his weight to support my body "Just drop me off" I added, a hint of anger in my tone.
"If that's what you truly want, then... I have no choice but to drop you off" He said, supporting me with his weight.
"You sacrificed your life to save mine, I'm truly grateful" he said, once we sat in the car, my body taking in the comfort.
"That's my job Sir" I said calmly, looking at the window.
"At least your bleeding's stopped" he said, turning to watch me in the back seat.
"Yeah.." I said, thankful in my heart for evading such a crisis.
"Let's find someone who can help" he said to me, taking himself out of the car, watching me wince in pain.
"I'll be okay, you've done enough" I said, my face moistened with sweat.
"The area might be infected" he said, walking towards me.
"It's fine, I'll get it treated " I said "Thank you and goodnight" I added , opening the door and shutting it right behind me.
Taking to my room, I quickly rushed to the cabinet, grabbing the disinfectant, I quickly took off my shirt, the binder wrapped tightly on my chest with stains of blood.
The first thing was first, I poured the disinfectant on the wound, the opened slit wound, relieved that it wasn't deep, enough to puncture an important organ.
I sat in front of the mirror, using the best of my knowledge and body control to work for myself.
It was a long day but making sure I scathed through had become my priority. After cleaning up the wound, it looked as good as clean, I retired to my bed Tomorrow will be better' I thought to myself as I held onto the dark sheets in the serene night.
My eyes pryed open at the sound of my phone constantly vibrating and ringing.
"Hello" I answered in a stale tone.
"How are you feeling?" The voice on the other wall so asked.
"Mister Juliano?" I asked, his musty cool tone reminding me of him.
"Yeah....got your number from my father" he said, as though being questioned.
I'll be at work in an hour" I said firmly, taking my legs off the bed.
"Okay, I just wanted to find out if you are strong enough to come in today" he said.
"Yeah, I'll be there soon" I said before putting down the phone, taking up a my binding wrap and heading to the bathroom.
Staring at my reflection in the mirror, my hair trimmed short, I put on my contacts, changing eye color was one of the things we learnt to be invisible to the eyes of those who might look for us.
Satisfied with my appearance, I rushed out, locking my door behind me.
"Second day, hope it's better than yesterday" I muttered as entering the cab.
Walking into the fairly lit building once again but without the hostility, the lady at the counter stared at me, remembering my face almost immediately she asked that I be able to enter without a doubt.
"You arrived early" Juliano said upon seeing me, my black shirt and plain black trousers masking my identity completely.
"I can't let the slip up of yesterday get the best of me" I answered, hands folded behind my back.
"That's good, well, I would have let you have some rest, it's just that we have an important place to be today" he said, swiveling on his chair, my hands still in place.
"Okay sir" I answered firmly, a candid expression on my face.
"Just like that? You're not going to ask where we're going?" He asked, puzzled for some reason, I've started to wonder if he doesn't understand the concept 'Bodyguard'.
"Yes sir, it is my job to follow and make sure your journey is safe" I answered sharply.
"Well then, the car's outside, let's go" he said, taking up his phone.
The moment he walked up to me, his light yet sharp cologne sifted through my nostrils, his body larger than mine, I watched him walk past me after a pause, still maintaining my facial expression.
Walking right behind him, I could notice the obvious difference between us in size and even demeanor, most people seeing is us for the first time would think he was my bodyguard instead, except, I seemed unfazed while he had a welcoming aura.
I approached the car swiftly, opening the door for him, just enough for him to get into and sit comfortably.
I sat by the passenger seat as the driver drove silently, his hands having a steady grip of the sharply black colored steering wheel.
The moment we arrived at our destination, I stared at the building in awe, still keeping an emotionless expression as I adjusted my sleeves, just in time to open the car door for my employer to make an entrance.
I watched the men stand at the entrance with so much vigor, their faces and bodies as though protecting the most valuable item in the world.
"Welcome Mr Bernard" a man who looked like he was in his late thirties said, extending his hand for a welcome handshake.
"Thank you Omar, Omar, right?" Juliano asked, taking his hand into his, in a friendly handshake.
"Yes, I'm suprised you remember my name, please come in" Omar said, extending his hand to the door leading to the internal part of the building.
I followed right behind "We can't let you in just like that" one of the men in a black suit, white shirt abs a condescending tie said, putting out his hand, blocking me from entering.
"Please let him in, he's my bodyguard" Juliano said, I looked at him, a bulging belly beneath the suit "You can do better" I muttered under my breath as I moved his hand from my face.
I walked in, following Juliano, Omar walked in front, placing his hand forward to indicate the path to follow. We entered an elevator that seemed secluded, just like the one back at the company.
Omar tapped on the button floor 2.
Once the doors of the elevator was opened, we were signaled to enter an uncommon room through a hardened door.
"Welcome, Welcome" a voice emerged from the room, I turned to look at him, the wrinkled face having no difference, it couldn't be mistaken, taking deep breaths, I stared at him as he shook hands with Juliano.
"It can't be" I said in a hushed tone, my eyes tearing up, his voice couldn't be mistaken, his wrangled hands that held me, haunting me till this very day, the same hands which pulled me away from my mother, the lips that almost ruined my life, taking my childhood away from me.
"Tilard Collin" I said, now in an audible voice, the men in the room startled as they looked at me, puzzled, my glare strong and firm.
"Yes and you are?" He asked 'The niece you sold to the brothel' I thought to myself as I looked at his unchanging eyes, "Enzo, Mr Bernard's bodyguard, I..I just know your name because of my research, you're quite popular " I said, forcing a smile, my hands clasped together as he reached out for a handshake, the very hands I want decapitated.
