little Alice was tucked in her bed. Her strawberry blond curly hair was tied in a messy bun. Her pink lips formed a cute yawn as sleep was about to take her.
Her mom sat beside her, as Alice fought her drowsiness. She wanted to hear her mom's story, but she was sleepy.
"Let's continue the story tomorrow, Good night darling..." her mother kissed her forehead before she stood up. But Alice's little hand stopped her before she turned off the bedside lamp.
"Mommy, I still want to hear the whole story, please, pretty please" she pleaded with her mom, making a cute face.
"No Alice, it's time for bed already. You are dozing already, I promise to tell you the whole story tomorrow, okay?" Her mother assured her.
"But mom.." Alice tried to protest but was interrupted by her mother.
"No buts honey, you have school tomorrow" her mom declared.
"Okay Mommy, Good night," little Alice said in a sad tone, which made her mother smile. Her mother kissed her forehead once again before she turned off the light walking out of the bedroom.
Alice Baker lay wide awake, looking at the ceiling of her room. She couldn't seem to fall asleep, even though she was drowsy a while ago.
The darkness of the night felt like a mist covering Alice. A loud bang was heard from the living room after a while, making Alice yelp. She stood up when she heard the screams of her mom from the living room.
She walked slowly to the door of her room, her heart thumping fast.
"Mommy..." She called her mother's name softly. "Mommy..." She called again when she heard more screams.
Alice walked out of the room and stood at the entrance of the living room. She became frozen with shock by what she saw. She saw a glimpse of two dead bodies. Blood oozed out of the wounds on her parent's body.
"Mommy! Daddy!" She cried out in horror. The scene was too terrifying for her to bear. Her parents lay side by side lifeless. Alice couldn't take the sight, and the next second she passed out of shock.
A man emerged from the shadows and walked to where Alice laid on the ground, he stared at her for some seconds before squatting down.
His cold hands carried Alice's little body up, he looked at her curiously.
"You didn't tell me that they had a child, you fool" came the man's angry voice.
Another man, with eyes as red as blood, emerged from the side of the living room, he walked to where the man was standing.
"I had no idea that they had a child" The red-eyed man snarled back at the man.
"Let her join them," he added, glancing at the lifeless bodies lying close to them.
The man glanced at the little girl in his hands, she looked so innocent and fragile. He looked up and glared at his partner.
"She's just a child," He said, glancing at her.
"Since when did we care about that" he spat back at the man.
Little Alice opened her eyes slowly hoping everything that happened was just a nightmare. Her eyes met a pair of blue eyes, He smiled at her and Alice jerked wide awake. His smile.
His smile was so terrifying, showing his elongated canines from his gums. Alice screamed out in a sob.
"It's okay, don't cry" The man tried to calm her down, but it only made Alice cry the more.
"Shut up, girl!" The red-eyed man snapped at Alice, scaring her even more.
"Don't yell at her, she is terrified" The man snarled at his partner.
"I'm pretty sure she is more terrified of you than me" The red-eyed man muttered, staring at the man's elongated canines.
With both of them distracted, little Alice found a way to escape from the hands of the man, but before she could run, the red-eyed man caught her.
He held her neck trying to strangle her, she couldn't breathe, let alone scream for help. Her body was trembling uncontrollably.
She was breathless.
Alice tried to struggle with the red-eyed man, but it was futile as she was just a little girl. She felt her vision go blurry, as she was about to be pulled into the darkness calling out to her.
"Let her go!" The man with the elongated canines yelled.
The red-eyed man looked at his partner, before releasing Alice. Her little body collapsed to the floor in pain as she gasped for air.
"We are to leave no loose ends" growled the red-eyed man at his partner.
"She is just a child, Jared leave her be" the man replied, rolling his eyes.
"I'm sure she won't remember us by tomorrow, so let's just go before people notice something is wrong '' He added, walking to the front door.
The red-eyed man still stood unmoving.
"Did you hear me? I said we should leave" The man turned back to look at him, with a question on his face.
"I'm not leaving till we are done" he growled at the man, as he shifted
Alice's eyes grew wide with shock as she stared at the man.
"Stop!" the man with the elongated canines yelled.
He looked at Alice and surprised Face curiously, she was staring at the red-eyed man shocked.
"I think she can see you" The man gestured towards Alice.
The red-eyed man changed back to his human form, a surprise visible on his face.
"That's Impossible, human can't see us when we shift". No ordinary human could see shapeshifters in their other form. But Alice was an exception.
"You f**king idiot!" The man snarled, clenching his head in annoyance
"I think she might be useful to us" The red-eyed man suggested.
"Wasn't she a loose end to you a while ago, despicable shapeshifters" The man muttered in a mocking tone.
"What did you just say!" The red-eyed man snapped in annoyance.
He shifted again when he roared "You are going to regret your words" He lurched forward on the other man.
But the man held his neck, stopping him.
"What are we going to do about her, what if she talks?" The red eyes asked his partner, almost in a panic.
"Who would believe her?, They would only think she has been traumatized" Came the men.
The red-eyed man freed himself from the grip of the man and attacked viciously.
The man fought back. The sound of bone cracking and growls were deafening.
Alice placed her hand on her ears, with her eyes closed shot. the tormenting screams didn't help her feel better. Finally, after the long fight, there was silence.
"Come here girl!" the Man with the elongated canines called out to Alice who was whimpering now. Alice's eyes fluttered open slowly, as she glanced at the lifeless body on the ground. The red-eyed man layed there dead, as blood streamed from his body.
A shrill scream came out of Alice's mouth when she noticed the red-eyed man's lifeless body.
"Shut up!" The man growled at Alice, afraid she would alert the neighbors.
Alice trembled with fear, as she watched the man walk to the windows, he looked outside to see if her screams were heard.
He walked back to where the red-eyed man laid lifeless, and he began to drag the body.
Alice saw this as an opportunity to escape, she looked at the entrance door and back at the man. He was distracted with the lifeless body, she got up slowly and walked to the door. They finally arrived at the door and as she unlocked it, the man looked up at Alice, his look turning grim.
"You little bit*h!" He growled as he ran toward the door, Alice opened the door and ran out of the house before he could reach her.
She ran straight to the neighbor's house when she saw a car pulling up, the man couldn't follow her as he couldn't be seen.
Alice ran to the front of the car and before it could run her over it came to a screeching halt. She fell to the ground due to exhaustion, and the driver of the car came out quickly wide-eyed.
The man watched from the shadows as Alice carried Alice to his house. Alice glanced toward where he was and their eyes met for a second, she looked away quickly terrified...
"Joan!, "Joan" The man who almost ran over Alice, banged his the door, as he called out his wife's name.
"I'm coming John, you don't need to yell!" His wife said as she came down the Stairs yawing.
The man gazed curiously at Alice who was still trembling in his hands.. His wife unlocked the door and her eyes grew wide when she saw her husband carrying a little girl in his arms. "Oh, My God!" she exclaimed in surprise. "Isn't she the little girl from Next Door" she added, staring at Alice.
"Yes, she came running to the front of my car. I almost ran her over," came the man's reply.
"Really? I don't think her parents know she is out. Should we call the police?" The woman suggested.
"I don't think so. I think I should let her parents know she is with us," the man said, glancing at Alice.
"Why were you outside this late, dear?" He asked her curiously but got no reply. Alice just stared at him without uttering a word.
His eyes met with his wife's and they both stared at Alice curiously.
"I should go now," said the man..
"Just be careful, John," his wife said, and he nodded.
As the man was about to walk away, Alice's little hands held his, and fresh tears started to roll down her cheeks.
"I will be back dear, don't worry" he tried to assure Alice, as he removed her hands from his. She watched as the man walked out his front door and her sobbing increased. The woman tried to calm her, but it was useless as Alice was beyond terrified...
The man attempted to knock on Alice's front door, but it was already open.. "That's odd," he muttered to himself, as he walked into the dark house. "Vera!, Ezekiel!" He yelled out Alice's parents' names but got no reply. The man walked further into the house and as he was about to yell their name, he stepped on 'something wet'. He reached down to touch it, but he couldn't see what it was clearly. He looked around in the darkness as he tried to locate the light switch. The man finally located it and turned it on. As he turned around, his face became pale instantly.....
"What do you think happened here?" the police detective asked his partner as they stared at the gurry scene.
"I have no idea Jerry, but it looks like some kind of animal attacked them," came his partner's reply.
"What about the little girl, has she talked?" the man inquired curiously.
"No, not a word. I think all this has traumatized her. who wouldn't be?" his partner said, shaking his head.
"Have you called the family members?" The police detective asked.
"I could only find one, the Wife's sister".
Megan drove her car in a hurry, her hands trembling on the steering wheel. Earlier, she got a call from the police about her sister. She arrived at the scene ten minutes later. Megan was in shock when she saw the police carrying two dead bodies out. A man walked towards where she was standing
"Are you Megan Steele" the man's voice brought Megan out of her shocked state.
"Yes, I am. What's going on? Where is my sister?" She asked the man, hoping what she was thinking wasn't true.
"I'm sorry to inform you of your sister and her husband's death," the man said, looking down.
"No, no! No!" Megan screamed in disbelief. She tried to run inside the house, but the man stopped her.
"Let me go! I need to see Vera!" she screamed, breaking down in tears.
After a few minutes, Megan calmed down and asked about her niece, Alice.
"Is she alright? Where is she?" She asked.
The man gestured to the next house and Megan ran their quickly
They opened the door and saw her niece sitting down with no facial expression.
"Alice" Megan called out her name softly. She turned to see who was calling "aunt meg" and her tiny voice came. Megan hurried to the place where Alice was sitting and gave her a tight hug.
"It's okay darling, everything is going to be fine," she said, patting Alice's head, as tears streamed down her face.....
The case went cold as no one could find any evidence or proof to pursue it further.. Megan tried to fight to reopen the case, but she couldn't as there was no witness, only Alice, who hasn't said a word since then. Megan brought Alice to stay with her.
"This is your new room" Megan opened the door to a room near hers. She waited for Alice's response but got none. She sighed, walking out of the room.
Alice walked to her bed and sat down, her eyes scrutinizing the whole room. She walked to where her bag was and opened it, she took out a picture of her and her parents and warm tears rolled down her cheeks.
Someone stood behind her window in the darkness, he watched as Alice cried silently. "What a mysterious child, till we meet again" came the person's voice like a whisper, before he walked away into the dark night.
12 years later...
"When are the pack leaders meeting again?" Devon's deep voice echoed inside a room with three people.
"Next week, sir," came one of the three people's reply. Devon nodded and went back to reading the paper in his hands.
"You can leave, except Lucas" Devon's deep blue eyes fell upon Lucas, who was sitting opposite him.
"Yes, sir," both men answered and left the room, scurrying out of the room in a hurry. Lucas looked a little anxious, as he was curious to know why he was asked to stay.
The two men glanced at Lucas, giving him a sympathetic look, before they walked out the door. They guessed that Lucas was in some kind of trouble. That was the only reason they could think of.
Since they were called into Devon's office, he looked to be in a bad mood. He looked colder than usual, even though his usual self was always cold. They could hardly breathe well the whole time.
"Lucas, I'm sure you know the reason I asked you to stay back. Do you mind explaining yourself?" Devon said, waiting for an explanation.
"I think this explains my Actions Devon. You need to take a look at this" Lucas stood up quickly and dropped an envelope on Devon's desk. He gestured for Devon to open the brown envelope.
Devon checked the contents silently, glancing at Lucas at intervals.
"how long have he been here?" He asked, still staring at the pictures his Lucas his Beta took.
"For about a week now" came Lucas reply, he was trying to study Devon's reaction, but Devon still looked the same, there was no visible reaction on his face.
Lucas was getting more anxious each passing second.
"It seems like Raphel is in on it too, Have you heard from Lilac?" Devon asked, looking up at Lucas
"Not yet Devon,we are still looking for her"
Devon sighed, as he ran his hand through his thick dark hair.
"Why didn't you inform me first?, it could have been dangerous if you were caught" He inquired, his hands folded.
"Alpha supreme Devon, please accept my apologies. I wanted to confirm things before letting you know." Lucas apologised quickly addressing Devon by his real title. He bent his body slightly to show how sorry he was.
Devon nodded " just be careful next time. Let me know before you do anything, I wont let you off easily if this happens again".
"Thank you Alpha Supreme" Lucas said, feeling a little relieved.
Devon stood up and walked to where a bottle of whiskey was; he poured two glasses and handed one to Lucas.
Lucas accepted it quickly and took a sip from the drink.
"How long have you known about this?" Devon asked curiously, as he walked back to his chair.
Devon Donovan, the legendary name of the Donovan family, was famous in both the human world and the supernatural world.
He was known in the business world as a tycoon, however many weren't opportune to see him. He ran his business behind the scene, his Beta and Gamma handled His business.
Devon was known to be predominant in the human world. He is the leader of the blue moon pack.
However, his brother and rival Liam were known for his cruelty both in the human and supernatural world.
"When is he striking next?" Devon asked his beta Lucas as he sat down.
"I'm not sure, Devon, but I think it will be sooner than we expected," came Lucas's reply.
"Get ready. We need to be prepared," Devon said, taking a sip out of his drink.
"And well the hell is Kace?" He asked almost in annoyance.
"Uhmm, well, I think" Lucas tried to think of a lie to save Kace from Devon, but his brain wasn't bringing something up.
"Just make sure, he is here within half an hour" Devon said
"I need him to go somewhere. Tell him to come here," Devon added, gesturing for his Beta to leave the study.
Lucas Bowed his head one more time, before walking out of the study. he wondered where Kace could be, he was probably with one of the ladies, Lucas though. Lucas came out of the study and let out a relief of breath.
"That idiot Kace, wait till I find you," he muttered to himself as he walked away.
Devon stood up and waltzed to his window. He glanced outside and saw that the residents in his pack appeared to be content.. He had forgotten the feeling a long time ago. He wondered how it felt to be happy. He sighed, taking a sip from the drink in his hands
As he was about to walk back to his seat, he saw someone standing by a wall. The person was gazing at him. A sardonic smile appeared on the person's face, a little knock was heard on the door, Devon looked towards the door, and then back outside but the person was gone.
"it's almost time" The mysterious person muttered to himself before walking away from the blue moon pack.
"who the hell was that?" Devon muttered to himself, The person was obviously aware of who her was. As he walked back to his seat, he still found the person mysterious. Who was that?, and why was he in his pack.
