Chapter 1 THE MEETING

It's easy Mabel ,don't be such a baby. Just tell him I'm with my love and he shouldn't bother me"

"But you are supposed to marry him, what will your father say".

Mabel asked, she wasn't used to disobeying elderly people. She was skeptical about Ella's plan. Besides, her future husband is a rich man, unlike her who doesn't have a rich boyfriend.

"Why are you taking his side? Do you like him? If yes, then go for him my dear friend"

Ella looked at Mabel, she wondered how she ended up with a friend with good morals and principles. She wasn't the type to follow orders and she had lots of problem as a result of that during her high school days. Mabel has been her friend since childhood and they were inseparable.

"I'll be going now". "Call me if you want me to back out"

"Urgh, you know I'll never ask you to back out. Don't expect my call and don't call either,I'll be out with Henry"

Mabel smiled, she was somewhat afraid. What if this man gets upset by Ella's decision? Her family would blame her for going and assume she advices Ella to make bad decisions.

"I'm doing this for my friend anyway"

Mabel arrived at the restaurant, her eyes widening at the opulence before her. Her thoughts were consumed by the lavishness of the surroundings, momentarily lost in awe. However, her musings were abruptly interrupted by a woman who approached her with a mix of suspicion and disdain.

"What do you want here?" the woman questioned, her voice dripping with condescension. The atmosphere grew tense as Mabel found herself caught off guard by the woman's hostility.

"I ..uhm" Mabel's voice faltered as she struggled to find the right words.

The woman standing before her exuded an air of beauty and importance, captivating Mabel's attention.

"Leave this place at once...security!!!"

"Let her be," a voice resonated through the air, drawing Mabel's attention. She turned her gaze to discover the source of the soothing yet commanding voice. To her surprise, she found herself locking eyes with a strikingly handsome man. The man's looks were absolutely breathtaking, like a model gracing the cover of a fashion magazine. His perfectly sculpted features, piercing gaze, and confident demeanor made him stand out in any scene. It was as if he had stepped right out of the pages of a high-end fashion editorial, leaving everyone in awe of his striking appearance.

"Who is she?...she shouldn't be here" the woman screamed, she was already getting annoyed that the man standing before her was taking sides with Mabel.

"She's with me, dear. Why did you run off?" the man inquired, his voice filled with concern. Mabel was taken aback by his unexpected intervention, unsure of what was happening.

Deciding to play along, she responded with a hint of apology in her voice.

"I'm sorry."

The woman's gaze hardened as she looked at Mabel, her anger grew. It was evident that the woman believed the man should be with someone more like her, unable to contain her anger, she left.

"I'm sorry about the embarrassment you had to go through," the man said sympathetically to Mabel.

"Why are you here?" he asked, noticing her silence. Without waiting for a response, he gently approached her, taking her hands in his and guiding her to walk alongside him. Mabel broke free from his grasp, her heart pounding with a mix of determination and uncertainty.

"I have to go," she exclaimed, her voice filled with a sense of urgency.

"Thank you very much for the support." With that, she swiftly turned and ran off, leaving the man standing there, his expression a mix of surprise and admiration.

"Should I go after her?" the man's bodyguard inquired.

"No, let her go,I'm sure I'd see her some other time" the man replied with a smile, his gaze fixated on Mabel's retreating figure. He couldn't help but be captivated by her beauty, his thoughts momentarily consumed by her presence.

********

Mabel came to a halt, her breath ragged as she ensured she was safely out of sight from the man. The thought of returning to the restaurant to meet Ella's fiancé filled her with unease and uncertainty. With trembling hands, she dialed Ella's number, her voice laden with regret as she spoke into the phone.

"I couldn't enter. I'm sorry, I just couldn't..."

Mabel gasped for breath, her chest heaving with the weight of her emotions. She ended the call with Ella, her voice trembling as she bid her farewell. With a heavy heart, she turned away and made her way towards her house, each step filled with a mix of exhaustion and determination.

Chapter 2 WE MEET AGAIN

Back at home, Mabel thought of how she spoke to Ella.

"Maybe I was too harsh on her mum..I'd call her and apologize later"

"No! You shouldn't be the one to apologize!!"

"Exactly, listen to your mother...this girl has too much control over you and it's best you cut of every friendship you have with her".

Ding!...

The door bell rang,it was Ella.

"I'm sorry about what happened...were you able to meet him"

"No ,I didn't see him...a woman caused a scene about me entering the place..I had to go away"

"I'm really sorry Mabel ...okay ..let me make it up to you ...I feel like I haven't been a good friend"

Mabel's eyes met Ella's,

"Take me to a party ...I want to go on one"

"Okay ...dress up...I'll come pick you by 8"

"I don't have an outing dress to wear, you know I don't go out ella"

"Okay fine, come with me..."

As Ella and Mabel stepped into the clothing store, their eyes widened with excitement. The air was filled with the scent of new fabrics and the soft hum of conversations. Racks upon racks of colorful clothes lined the walls, inviting them to explore. Mabel's gaze swept across the aisles, taking in the vibrant displays and stylish mannequins. The sound of hangers sliding along the metal rods created a gentle melody as shoppers sifted through the endless options. It was a haven of fashion, a place where possibilities seemed endless and the perfect outfit was waiting to be discovered. Ella and Mabel happily made their purchases, their arms filled with bags of new clothes. As they stepped out of the store, the warm sunlight greeted them, casting a golden glow on the bustling street.

"We'd go over to my place...you need a makeover ...I'm calling my makeup artist right now"

"I didn't ask where we were going tonight ..."

"Don't be such a party pooper...you'll see...it's a surprise"

Mabel didn't like surprise so, the last time she got surprised was in high school by some group of mean girls. She was saved just in time by Ella, she wished she knew where they were going to because she didn't want to be embarrassed again.

The air grew heavy with tension, and the once vibrant atmosphere now felt suffocating. Mabel stood there, her heart sinking, as she tried to muster the strength to face their judgment.

Mabel, feeling increasingly uncomfortable, excused herself from the group. She longed to escape the tense atmosphere and find solace elsewhere. As she began to walk away, a gentle but firm hand reached out and stopped her in her tracks. Surprised, she turned to see who had halted her retreat. The air crackled with uncertainty as their eyes met, and in that moment, an unspoken understanding passed between them. It was a pivotal moment, a chance for redemption or further disappointment. The air around them seemed to crackle with an electric energy, and Mabel couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement in her chest.

The man interrupted Mabel's gaze, his voice cutting through the air with a sense of familiarity.

Chapter 3 AGAIN

Mabel's eyes widened with unease as she locked gazes with the man. Her instinct urged her to leave, to escape from the discomfort that seemed to radiate from him. But before she could make her move, the man's words cut through the tension.

"It's disrespectful to walk out again," he said firmly, his voice laced with a hint of authority. Mabel's heart raced as she grappled with the conflicting emotions swirling within her. The atmosphere grew heavy with an unspoken power dynamic, leaving her torn between her desire to flee and the weight of his words.

"I... uhm," Mabel stuttered, her voice trembling with uncertainty. The man's imposing presence made her feel small and vulnerable. The air around them grew heavy with tension as she struggled to find her words. Her mind raced, searching for a way to navigate this intimidating situation.

Mabel's phone suddenly rang, jolting her out of the tense atmosphere. With a mix of relief and concern, she answered the call to hear Ella's slurred voice on the other end.

"Come and pick me up," Ella pleaded, her words tinged with the effects of her drunken state. Mabel's heart sank as she realized her friend's vulnerability. Hastily, she excused herself from the man's presence, her mind racing with worry and determination. She quickly pulled out her phone and dialed Ella's driver, urgently requesting him to come and pick them up. She knew that getting Ella home safely was the top priority. As they waited for the driver to arrive, Mabel kept a watchful eye on her friend, offering support and reassurance.

Mabel made sure Ella was safely home before heading back to her own house. It was a relief to see her friend in the comfort of her own space, knowing she would be okay. As Mabel sat in her room, her thoughts kept drifting back to the man she had encountered at the club.

The moonlight gently filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow on the room. Mabel's eyelids grew heavy as she drifted into a peaceful slumber, still lost in the thoughts of their encounter.

Ringgggg!!

Mabel's phone jolted her from her slumber, the sound piercing through the peaceful silence of the room. It was Ella calling to check if Mabel had made it home safely.

"Are you okay?" Ella's concerned voice echoed through the phone.

"Yes I am ...I'll be coming over later"

"Yes please, my dad wants me to meet with my future husband again ...urgh !! I don't even want to."

A soft, rosy blush adorned her cheeks, and her lips wore a shade that complemented her smile flawlessly.

"How do I look" Ella asked, already knowing the answer.

"Ella, you look absolutely stunning," Mabel exclaimed, unable to contain her admiration.

"Let's head out, I think I'm late..I heard he doesn't like lateness"

As they arrived at the restaurant, the sight before them was nothing short of grandeur. The entrance exuded an air of exclusivity, beckoning guests into a world of refined dining. Inside, the ambiance was equally enchanting, with plush furnishings, soft lighting, and a subtle melody playing in the background. The tables were adorned with fine linens and sparkling silverware, ready to host a feast fit for royalty.

"She is with me," she declared, her voice carrying a hint of defiance. The air crackled with anticipation as the standoff between Ella and the bodyguard played out.

"Let them be," the man said, his voice tinged with annoyance. He turned to face Ella, his expression stern.

"This was supposed to be a private date. Why did you bring your friend?"

This was the same man she had encountered at the club and now at the restaurant.Questions danced in her mind, like fleeting shadows in the night. Why did their paths keep crossing? Was it mere coincidence or something more? Her realization hit her like a bolt of lightning. The pieces of the puzzle fell into place as she recognized the man as the one who had once proposed to Ella. Her thoughts raced, connecting the dots of their intertwined stories. However, before she could delve deeper into her musings, Ella's voice broke through the momentary silence.

"Wait for me in the car," Ella instructed, her tone filled with urgency.

Mabel's mind buzzed with questions and concerns, but she obediently followed Ella's directive, retreating to the car to await her friend's return.
