Valentina's POV
"This is the final part of the wedding show we played yesterday, sign these" Allen said, as he flung the papers at me.
I read through the documents, Allen wanted an open marriage, where he could do whatever he wants, irrespective of our matrimonial vow.
"Is your family aware of this?" I asked
"Do you want me to kick you out of this house?" Allen threatened.
After a careful thought, I breathed out
"Okay, I will agree to and sign these documents on one condition"
Okay my little wife, what is it?"
Allen wore a smirk, playing with the golden pen in his hands, he looked at me like I was a child begging for candy.
"I want to have my own business" I sputtered.
" I provide you with everything that you want, why do you feel the need to work?"
Allen asked me with a straight face, I knew convincing him would not be easy, but I had the right card in my hands, I just had to place it in the right direction.
"I don't want to sit at home all day doing nothing" I replied, wearing a sorry look.
I really felt like hitting him in the face right now, but that would be a bad idea.
"Alright your wish is granted, besides I don't want a lazy wife around me" Allen boasted.
I grabbed the pen from his hands and signed the documents, with a faint smile on my face I said "Thank you".
"You're welcome, see you when I see you".
Allen walked out briskly and zoomed off in his white sports car.
That was the last time in two months that I saw and spoke to my husband. It was raining today, since last week a heavy downpour flowed from the sky.
"Hey bestie, how are you holding up?"
I read the text from my bestfriend Chloe, who had been away in the Islands for charity work, she flew in a few days ago.
"I'm good bestie, still at work, can't wait to link up with you this weekend, Love you xo xo" I replied to her text and jumped back into work.
Since Allen ran off with his mistress, a day after our wedding, work has been my life. I love interior decoration, it keeps me happy and I ensure to always give my best.
There was a knock at the glass door.
"Come in," I gestured.
"Ma I'll be going home now, I'm done with all of my work for today" My assistant Nora informed me.
"Alright, I'll lock up when I leave, Here's your paycheck for last month" I handed her an envelope.
" Thank you very much ma" Nora's face lit up with Joy.
" You're welcome, Take care of yourself"
As Nora left, I was worried about how she would get home safe, I looked out the window and noticed that it was drizzling.
" Thank Goodness" I muttered.
The safety of my staff was important to me.
While Driving on my way home, I vibed to my Jam "Go up", it was sang by my favorite band " The hit makers".
Just as I was about to make a turn, My car suddenly broke down in the middle of nowhere.
" How come? " I pondered.
The car was in perfect condition when I got to work and now this. It began raining heavily and I was stuck, I reached for my phone to make a call, but it slipped off my hands and the screen cracked.
My hands were shaking, I was nervous, not knowing what to do.
" Hey miss, are you okay? "
I jerked in fright at the voice and turned to see who it was, My gaze met with the most beautiful blue eyes I have ever seen.
I was speechless for a moment, he had a perfect masculine body with broad shoulders and an angelic face.
"You're cold" He said and wrapped me in his Jacket.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"My name is Jason, I drove by and saw that you needed some help" He replied.
"Yes my car suddenly broke down and I crashed my phone and I don't know..." I was shaky.
Then he calmed me with his words.
" It's okay. Please sit in the car while I fix it".
'Oh my God', I did as I was told, he held the door open for me and I sat in the car, my eyes fixed on every inch of his body as he walked to open the bonnet of the car, our gaze met and I looked away shyly like a teenage girl, I felt butterflies in my stomach.
"Start the car miss" He said after a few minutes, I did as he asked and the engine purred. I was so happy, I jumped out of the car and hugged him, he was surprised and I was shocked, but he brushed it off as excitement.
" Thank you" I said with a wide grin.
" You're welcome, wow it has stopped raining and your car is up, my work here is done, I have to go now, have a nice evening". He said and rushed off to his car.
Before I knew it, he sped away,
"oh Valentina he didn't even get to know your name, so such good men still exist in this world".
There was a beep on my phone, I looked at my cracked screen, it was a text from my mom which read
" We miss you at the company honey, we will be glad to have you back".
I hissed at the text, my mother and her antics,
What did she want this time?
She should have the company to herself. After all, she forced me into marrying a man I don't love to save her precious company, she should enjoy it and leave me out of it.
I turned on my favorite Jam and drove home happily, I thought about Jason, 'OMG!' I was definitely in the mood for a hot shower.
I walked into my room, took my clothes off, turned on a romantic song to suit the moment, and hit the showers freely diving into my fantasy with thoughts of my prince charming, Jason.
"He's so handsome" I thought, no man had ever treated me so nicely the way he did.
"Good Lord, I want to see him again"
Suddenly the music went off, and I heard footsteps. I turned off the shower to be sure, I was not imagining something else, the steps continued slowly.
I could tell the person was moving towards the bathroom door.
I got so scared, I screamed " who are you?"
I quickly wrapped the towel over my naked body.
There was no answer, the door opened quietly, I shut my eyes in fear.
Valentina's POV.
"Get dressed, Allen expects you to be at the family mansion in fifteen minutes"
Dalia, Allen's little sister, was at it again, despite invading my privacy in my matrimonial home. I wasn't going to take this insolence from her, not today.
" How dare you invade my privacy Dalia?" I lashed out.
In the blink of an eye, her left hand found my face, she gave me a hot slap.
" His little wife, isn't that what my brother calls you? Know your place, Don't keep me waiting." Dalia continued and walked off like a peacock.
I held my cheek in pain as hot tears poured from my eyes. When I looked at the mirror, the bruise on my face was a reminder of the abuse I went through and the tears revealed the pain I felt inside.
I applied makeup to cover it up and slipped into a blue designer gown, I did not want to appear shabby and helpless before Allen and my In-laws.
The drive to the Vanderbilt mansion was quiet and cold, neither of us talked to each other, I prefered it that way, Dalia is such a brat.

" I have noticed your success in handling the family's business these past three months" My father finally broke the silence which I was becoming uncomfortable with.
" Thank you Dad" I replied, while pouring us both another set of drinks.
When my father raised his eyebrow, I knew he was not satisfied with my success and was about to let the cat out of the bag.
" Allen quit mixing business with pleasure, your promiscuous acts with your top associate is unethical". He spat out in a very serious tone.
This was actually the moment I have been waiting for, to defy him, so I didn't hesitate in defending myself.
" But Dad, Diana is just a friend" I replied hysterically.
" Watch your tongue, boy." My father warned, this time, his eyes said it all.
I had crossed the line. But he didn't have much of a choice, I have always been the black sheep of the family, who defied his orders, damning the consequence.
There was a knock at the sturdy's door.
"Come in". My father said, lowering his gaze to the documents on the table, which I didn't pay much attention to, until now.
My cunning little sister, Dalia, walked in. She loved our father dearly and always wanted to be in his good graces.
" You're here my princess, right on time".
My father, who was angry a moment ago, spoke calmly, while they shared a warm hug.
" My children, it will interest you both to know that the requirements for who takes over from me at the company has changed". A smirk appeared on Dad's face.
"But Dad, You were supposed to transfer full authority to me tomorrow at the company, I thought that's the reason for our meeting here today", I reminded him.
It seems he has forgotten how he made me marry that useless thing who calls herself my wife, just to meet his demand for the transfer of the family's inheritance to me.
" Where's your wife, Allen?" My father asked, looking at me sternly in the eyes.
The room was getting too heated and uncomfortable for me, despite the air conditioning, but I maintained my composure.
"At my residence" I replied.
" Your darling little wife is downstairs, seated calmly at the dining table, waiting for you " Dalia cut in, smiling cunningly.
"You lack responsibility, Allen. It's high time you became responsible. Whichever of my children gives me a grandchild first gets full control of my estate," my father concluded.
My blood boiled, Once again, he showed me he was in control. I didn't say a word, I gulped my drink to calm my nerves.
"Dinner is ready, Dad," Dalia said cheerfully, leading my father downstairs as if I didn't exist.
I went through the documents on the table, My father wasn't joking, My twin brother who hasn't been in touch with the family for years, was also included.
But why? Could my twin brother have reconciled with my Dad, without me being aware?
I had questions that needed answers, and I'll surely get them. No One would take what is mine from me, not even my twin.
We had dinner quietly as a family, I excused myself after I had my fill and went to the garden for some fresh air.
"Good evening my husband" My little wife was at it again.
" Don't call me that, what do you want?" I asked, the mere sight of her disgusts me.
" I haven't seen you in months. You act as if I don't exist, as if I mean nothing to you", She replied, sounding hurt.
" Yes you mean nothing to me, you disgust me, get out of my sight" I yelled at her, making sure she shivered to her bones, My little wife broke in tears and ran off.
****
Allen's words hurt me, I felt like a worthless piece of rag, I quickly ran out of the Vanderbilt mansion and boarded a taxi to my family mansion.
I yearned to be where I had good memories, when my life was bliss before my father died. I used to be the apple of his eye, but now that he's gone, my life has become hell.
On second thought, I decided not to go there. I do not want to see my mother, she is the reason why I'm going through this suffering, because of her greed.
Where will I get drunk? I thought. I felt like forgetting my sorrow, even if it was for a sec.
"Take me to a bar" I asked the taxi driver.
" Okay miss, there's a good one close by" He replied, while switching lanes.
It was my first time in a bar, nevertheless I asked the barman for his strongest blend, I craved for an all time high.
It wasn't long before I began seeing double and feeling so wavy, I liked the tingling sensation.
Those blue eyes, I saw them again.
"Hey handsome" I said, my eyes were fixed on his strong muscles that were visible in his folded sleeves.
"It's you again, what are you doing here?"
He asked, meeting my gaze.
"Drinking away my sorrow" I laughed.
"Okay beautiful, let's cheers to that" He teased,
We both laughed and continued talking. I felt so comfortable telling him about what I was going through. He was a good listener, staring into my eyes most of the time.
"Do you want to get out of here?" He asked softly.
"Yes, take me with you" I said, throwing caution to the wind.
We walked out of the bar, holding hands. Outside the bar he asked me
"What's your name?"
I thought he would never ask.
" Valentina," I replied.
" Valentina you are beautiful" he continued, as he drew me closer and kissed me passionately.
OMG! I didn't see that coming, but I liked it and wanted more.
"Take me home," I said.
"As you wish Valentina" He replied and carried me in his arms.
Valentina's POV
I woke up feeling very tired.
"Ouch my head hurts"
I realized I wore his clothes and lay on his bed.
What happened to mine? Did he have his way with me?
He wouldn't do such, Jason didn't seem like that type of guy who would take advantage of a woman.
"Good morning beautiful" He said, as he walked into the room, holding a tray in his hands.
"Why am I in your clothes?" My eyes screamed fire.
" Okay Valentina,Y...." Jason replied calmly
" Don't call my name, Answer me" I cut in
"You vomited on your clothes, so I had to remove them, and you changed in this"
"Okay" I muttered, feeling embarrassed.
The sweet aroma of the food
got to my nostrils.
" What's that?" I curiously asked, pointing at the tray.
" Toasted bread, Scrambled eggs and veggies" Jason replied, with a bright smile while opening the plate.
The meal was pleasing to my eyes, I couldn't wait to have a taste of it.
"Do you feel any headache?" He cared for me, rubbing his palm on mine.
"Yes my head hurts so bad" I replied, having a fill of the delicious meal.
"You are so cute, these pills would make you feel better, you can have them after you finish eating" he giggled.
" Thank you, the food tastes great. You made this?" I asked.
Just as I expected, his mom taught him how to cook. Jason watched me as I ate, which made me a little bit shy. I really felt better after breakfast, somehow I managed to take those bitter pills.
" I'm feeling better now and want to take a shower". I giggled.
" Alright the bathroom is over there, I'll take these away, take your time" Jason held the tray and walked away smiling.
"Why does he always smile at me?" I thought.
The kiss we shared yesterday was heavenly, I yearned for his lips in mine again, perhaps he wanted the same.
I had a warm bath, feeling the gentle touch of the water flowing on my body as I sang along happily to the music playing in the background.
The lovely gown which lay on the bed caught my attention with a note which read
" For you Valentina from Jason"
I couldn't help but smile while I read the note and looked at the gown, Jason was so thoughtful and caring.
"Wow you look beautiful" Jason said, as I walked to the sitting room, he was dressed in a suit already and prepared for work.
I thanked him for the dress, showing appreciation for his kind gestures towards me.
Jason asked if he could take me home, but I declined, I didn't want to go to Allen's house. Rather I asked him to drop me off at my family's mansion.
It was a very quiet drive, we said nothing but stole glances at each other.
"Alright we are here, thanks to your direction and google map" Jason uttered, as he brought the car to a halt.
"Thank you, see you later" I replied and opened the door of the car.
Jason pulled me close, leaned in and gave me a deep kiss. I was lost in his blue eyes.
" Call me later beautiful" Jason gave me his card.
I was speechless, I got out of the car chuckling, feeling butterflies in my stomach.
Hello, who's here? Mom," I called out as I sat down in the living room, my eyes landing on the picture of my father hanging on the wall, a reminder of how much I missed him.
"Good morning miss Valentina"
That was Rosa, the family's housekeeper for years. She informed me that my Mom was out for a morning run.
I took a stroll around the house, waiting for my mom to get back. The door to my father's study was unlocked, so I walked in.
While I was there, I could still feel his presence and smell. It had been a month since his passing, and while I was flipping through his journal, a piece of paper fell out.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I read the letter's contents. My dear father, Walter Larimer, had taken his own life because of the huge debt he owed the bank.
I held his suicide letter in my shaky hands.
How could this be possible? Was my mom aware of this?
Just then, as my eyes blurred with tears, my mother walked in,
"Here you are Tina" she beamed with a smile, which instantly wore off her face.
"Did you know about this mom?" I asked, showing her the letter.
My mom froze at the sight of the letter, she broke into tears while reading the letter.
"I didn't know Tina, I wasn't aware. oh my dear Walter, why did you have to do this?" She sobbed.
I blamed my mom for Dad's death, if she was a good wife to him, she should have known about it, he wouldn't have committed suicide.
"Mom you weren't there for Dad, he felt lonely, I hate you Mom!!" I spat out and walked away angrily to my room, where I locked myself up.
"Tina, sweetie please open the door" my mom pleaded while knocking, but I didn't care.
" Go away Mom, I don't want to see your face, I hate you" I yelled, tears streamed down my cheeks, I was devastated.
My phone beeped, it was a text from Chloe which read
"Hey bestie, how are you? I haven't heard from you since yesterday. Hope you're good?"
" I'm not fine, I'm so sad bestie" I texted her.
" Tina, where are you?" She replied.
I didn't text her back. I wanted to be alone. My phone kept buzzing, Chloe called severally, but I didn't pick up.
Looking into the mirror, I saw someone who looked like me, but didn't feel like me. We shared the same features: soft brown eyes, auburn hair and tiny freckles.
But this wasn't Valentina, I was broken in tears and pain, a shadow of my old self.
I threw myself on the bed and cried my eyes out. The rum in the left chest of my dresser was a way to ease the pain, I thought.
Luckily for me, I hadn't finished drinking it on the night of my Dad's funeral. I drank about half of what was left in the bottle, feeling a tingling sensation as I drifted off to sleep.
" Thuddd" the loud bang on the door caused me to jerk awake, I opened my eyes but my vision was blurry.
However I heard three voices, one of them sounded like my mom, I did not recognize the other two deep male voices.
" The Boss wants her back to where she belongs" One of the men spoke in a rough voice.
" Did he really send you here?" My mom asked in a frightened voice.
" Speak to him over the phone" The man with the husky voice replied.
"Okay I haven't forgotten" My mom uttered after a few seconds, obviously talking to the Man at the other end of the line.
One of the men lifted me up and carried me in his arms,
" Where are you taking me to?" I asked slowly.
" Be quiet" He warned me harshly.
My vision was still blurry, but I blinked, trying to make out the faces of the men in my room and the broken door.
" Don't be afraid Tina, you'll be fine, Just go with them" My mom pleaded.
We were both helpless as the men shoved me into the backseat of the black SUV, speeding away into the night. I wondered what fate awaited me.
