Chapter 1 Book 1: The Chosen One

Four different people in this world ruin things for us. Friends, families, strangers, and friends again. When we finally find the one we love and care about, but they are different from our kind, the council and our parents don't accept them because to us, they mean danger.

Hi, I'm Inez, Inez Sivan, and this is my story. I'm a Dhampir: half-human, half-vampire. I won't call myself that. Instead, I'd use the word bloodsucker. For centuries now, the Sivan family has been chased by hunters from place to place, and now that people don't believe vampires exist anymore, we used that opportunity to come to New York City for a perfect and normal life. just like normal people. You've all probably read books or watched movies stating "Vampires do not walk under the sun" because they are allergic to them. Well, my family's different. We are day lites. We are the good suckers and they call our type: The Sanguinarians.

When I was five, my dad told me a story about how bloodsuckers were split into three types: The Sanguinarians feed on a small amount of blood, and they use a syringe or a lancet to feed. The psychic bloodsuckers feed by sipping life energy through a tentacle that's attached to auras, and there are also the hybrids who feed on all kinds of blood, but they prefer vampire meat.

If they eat human or animal flesh then their eyes turn gold. If they drink human or animal blood, their eyes turn red. If they eat a vampire's flesh then their eyes glow blue.

Chapter 2 The beginning

The sun had set a long time ago as the clouds gathered to form an image I can't figure out. I drive home in my dad's Toyota Camry, watching as the street's lights flash every minute I pass by them. I bob my head to the beat as I shake it off with Taylor Swift blasting through my speakers. It's my first time in the human world and, gosh, it's a lot different from the Shadow World, a place where not only bloodsuckers live but other supernatural beings as well.

My family came to this city just last week, but I didn't go with them because I wasn't done with my mission: mastering how to control my fangs from coming out anytime I smell blood. I'm different from other bloodsuckers. I haven't had my first blood or had my first bite. I'm just like a full mortal. I eat cheese and burgers, and they are my best combo. Two years ago, on my sixteenth birthday, my older brother Arden had his first kill and got bitten by a bloodsucker. He became a full-blooded vampire.

I was terrified because he couldn't control it. The council said that "Dhampirs become full bloodsuckers when they kill or get bitten by one and become a hybrid when being bitten by a werewolf or tasting witch's blood." "We don't kill, we protect those we love.' Dad added. My thoughts wander as I mindlessly look out at the lights in the distance. I look in my rearview mirror as a car suddenly passes mine at full speed, going at least 30 mph faster. "Whoa, come on!!" I yell in the direction of the car riding in front of me.

I opened the map Dad had left for me before I left for the academy last week. It's complicated because I can't figure out how the human world works, so instead I turn on the GPS to direct me home. I know you all will be wondering how I got to know how to drive. Well, firstly, I took a few classes from Dad and I'm not fully a bloodsucker, so I can't do stuff like flying or shapeshifting, but I can hypnotize, and the color of my eyes glows anytime someone I'm bonded with is in trouble or if they want me to read their mind.

I slam on the brakes and turn the wheel facing the opposite direction as the car stops in front of a gray house.

My chest pushed against my seat belt, throwing me back against the seat. I unbuckle my seatbelt and open the door, stepping out into the warm night air. I shut the door and stood in front of the house. "She found it," Mom says as she hugs me. "I'm glad you completed your training." She rubs my back, and I give a smile. "Come on." She rubs my arms and we walk towards the house, and she leads me to the porch.

She opens the door and we step into the house. The house was Elizabethan, with wooden panels along the corridors and ornate chandeliers hung from the ceiling.

The stairs lead down into a tall galleried room with a rug spread out over flagstones and a fireplace big enough.

A long, polished wooden table has been set for the whole family. It's beautiful. "You will get used to it," Dad says as he comes to hug me. I smile as I lean toward him. "How was your training?" he added.

I opened my teeth and my fangs came out slowly, but it was painful, so I stopped. "Dad, I thought you wanted us to live a normal life."

"I do, and now that you are here, why don't you join us for dinner?"

"You must be very tired. You could have let me come pick you up instead of coming by yourself." Arden interrupts as he removes the shade he was putting on. His eyes are red.

I'm sure they haven't fed him blood since they entered the human world. "Awwn bro, you look scary. How are you coping without taking a sip of blood?" I tease.

He opens his teeth and his fangs come out. He wants to attack me with it, but Mom stops him immediately. I would have turned into a full-bloodsucker just like him in minutes if she hadn't. "Enough! come Inez. I will show you your room." She says this excitedly, heading up the staircase. I walk behind her but stop on the landing, a few steps up, still looking around the house. She opens the door and I step into the room.

The room has a rectangular silhouette with edges that have been smoothed so that it gives them that modern design look as well as makes the walls look like one continuous one that encircles the room. The color of the walls is light blue; similarly, the color of the walls is blue.

There are six light bulbs inserted inside the empty corresponding cavities; all of them rotate and focus at different points.

The floor is wooden, and the color is golden brown. The bed's longest side is sized by the right wall of my room, while the computer and peripherals are on the other side of the room.

The writing desk is equipped with a lamp as well as a laptop. It is made of stainless steel, while the legs are powder-coated.

The stool is silver-colored, which goes well with the color of the table and also that of the laptops. In the center of the room, there is a red-seat combination sofa; its legs are in nickel-plated steel. "So, how is Arden coping?" I ask Mom as we both sit on the sofa. She sighs.

"You saw the way he is; we are trying to make him eat normal food again." She stands up and turns to look at me. "School is tomorrow. How excited are you?" she asks.

"Is anyone ever? What do you think?" I reply with a question and give a small smile.

"Come and join us when you are done." She leaves the room and closes the door behind her.

~~~
That night, after dinner, I took a hot bath.
I walk over to the dresser and dry my wet hair. I wear my blue robe and check the time. It's eleven o'clock. I walk over to the bed, and the next thing I know, I fall into a heavy, dreamy sleep.
Chapter 3 The human boy I was drawn to
It's 7:40 the next morning when I walk up the steps and find my way to the principal's office on my first day of senior year at Eulogia Academy.
The truth is, I'm nervous. I haven't had a proper conversation with a human before. I want to run back home, but at the same time, I have to pretend to be a normal human.
"Thanks for choosing Eulogia Academy. We are happy to have you here, Miss Sivan." The principal smiled at me across the desk. She is a bit tall and she was also in heels. She wore a black blazer, neatly pressed, and her hair was packed into a ponytail. She adjusts her glasses. "I'm principal Elise."
"Thank you for having me here. I'm happy I will also get to study in this beautiful school just like the famous scholars." I swallowed hard. "Listen, if there is anything I can do to help you transition here, you let me know, okay?" I nod and give her a small smile.
~~~

The hall is crowded as students stop to talk with friends. Immediately, the school is buzzing with gossip about the new girl. I stand in the middle of the hallway as I walk by people.

I look around me, trying to find my locker. The school is huge, and the hall is also big. My eyes scan the halls for the right locker number when they stop on a tall, dark-haired boy.

He is quite attractive, but what made me look in his direction was that he was already staring at me. Suddenly, I'm in shock that I'm being drawn by a stranger.

I blink and avoid his gaze. My locker is a few feet down from where I stand as I quickly walk to locker 61. I open it and put my books inside. I look over my shoulder to find the dark-haired boy still watching me.

Some group of lousy boys walk over to him with footballs in their hands. He laughs with them, then turns to shut his locker and disappears into the crowd of students. I focus again on my locker.

"So, you are the new girl." Two girls step into my line of vision and stop beside me and I turn to face them. The first girl who spoke was tall. She has long blonde hair. She wore a short leather pink skirt and topped it up with an ankle boot.

The second girl who stands next to her is short, almost my height. She has neck-length black hair with three piercings each along her earlobes. They are both beautiful and now I'm curious to know what they have to say because 'Don't trust humans' was what mom said to me before I left.

"Yeah, that's me." I smile. "You are very pretty." The blonde haired girl smirked at me. I don't trust them a bit, but still, I pretend. I turn to close my locker and look back, but the two girls are gone. I look down the hallway, but the two girls are nowhere to be found.

Another girl approaches me as I turn to face my locker. Oh no, not another one, I thought. She has long black hair, and I am instantly jealous of her beauty. "That's Jada, the cheerleader's captain." Hmm, she's convincing. I turn to face her. She grins at me, revealing her perfect white teeth. "Hi, I'm Denise." I decided I liked this one. She seems nice.

"I'm In..."

"Inez Sivan. You are the gossip of our school today." She cuts it, taking me by surprise, then I nod. "There will be a match by 3:30 pm today on the field. You should come. Everyone will be there." She adds.

I don't have anything to do after school, so I accept her offer, and then Denise, too, disappear into the crowd.

~~~
It's approximately 3:40 when I walk into the field. The crowds were clapping. The cheerleaders were flipping and doing their moves to encourage the players. Immediately, I see Denise as she waves at me. I walk to meet her and then sit next to her.
We focus on the players immediately after the cheerleader's captain does her last and final routine. I see the dark-haired boy staring at me again before placing the helmet on his head. He runs towards the other players as they gather to talk or pray or whatever it is they always do.
"That's their captain, Chase Parker. He is also the son of the richest man in this town. Girls love him and he was Jada's ex-boyfriend." Denise says and looks at me. "You find him attractive?" she asks.
"Don't you?" I say, not like asking a question, but more like a rhetorical question.
"Who doesn't?" She replied with a question. "He is the typical boy for every girl's dream guy." She adds.
"Hmm, so what is this called?" I ask. Honestly, we don't do this in the shadow world. Instead, you will see kids playing with the skulls of their ancestors. She looks at me with a surprised look on her face. "What?" I ask.
"You don't know what football is?"
"The football dad watched last night was played by foot, but this one is by hand and they even wear helmets, which is weird."
"Okay Inez, this is American football, also called gridiron football, and it also has rules."
"Which are?" I ask as I focus on Chase, who is running with the ball. "If they kick a field goal, then the other team gets a possession. If they score a touchdown, they win. If they tie the score by kicking a field goal, then the next team that scores wins. If the team with the first possession turns the ball over without scoring any points, then the first team to score wins. Get it now!"
"I guess so, but this team they are playing against is really strong."
"I know, but the Chase team is stronger, they win all the time, and they have made this school proud."
"Wow," I say as we focus on how the other opponent tries to collect the ball from Chase's team.
They are really strong and they keep forcing themselves onto the ball. Immediately, the other opponent uses his helmet to fight for the ball, and the steel on the helmet injures one of Chase's team players.
He falls to the ground, bleeding from his shoulder.
The crowds stop cheering, and instead silence takes place. They call on the trainers and they take him into the hall.
I can see the blood on the floor because of my good sight and my focus on it, even though I don't want to, doesn't make me feel so good. Not again.
My fangs are forcing their way out again, and this time they are coming out fast. I looked at Denise and ran as fast as I could to avoid the blood.
