Chapter 1 A Man Who Has It All (Epilogue)

February 24, 2033, 5:30 PM - Sargeant Esguerra Avenue corner Mother Ignacia Street, Baranggay South Triangle, Diliman, Quezon City - DA Corporate Center (Former ABS-CBN Broadcasting Center)

Rising high above the bustling city, a magnificent new high-rise estate shimmered under the sun's rays. The towering structure served as the prestigious corporate headquarters of the DA Corporation, a vast and diverse conglomerate of businesses that had established a dominant presence across multiple industries.

The land on which the magnificent building now stood was once owned by one of the biggest TV networks in the Philippines, ABS-CBN broadcasting corporation. However, due to unfair and underhanded tactics by the government, they lost their franchise, resulting in job losses and a significant impact on the economy. As a result, they were compelled to sell the property, which was eventually acquired by a young, brilliant business tycoon. His unwavering ambition and drive propelled him to great heights of success, allowing him to transform the property into a center of business not only for the whole country but also for international markets.

The DA Corporation stood as a towering testament to the man's tenacity and unrelenting pursuit of excellence, a magnificent monument of achievement towering over the heart of the bustling metropolis.

Perched in his office at the pinnacle of a newly constructed high-rise luxury building that served as the main headquarters of his corporation, the man savored his iced coffee as he intently studied the reports displayed on the large screen embedded in the wall, all of which were connected to his laptop.

After a while, he let out a sigh and reached for the intercom on the edge of his desk.

"Ms. J, could you please check my schedule from tomorrow until Friday?" the tycoon inquired into the intercom.

"Good afternoon, sir," Ms. J's voice came through the intercom. "Your schedule for the next few days is quite packed. You have multiple meetings, a number of events to participate in, and several client dinners to host. Additionally, you have a site inspection scheduled for a newly acquired location that is set to be converted into an event space. Let me print out the exact schedules and send them over to your office."

The tycoon pauses for a good while then replies, "Sorry to put this onto you, but can cancel and move all of them for after this Friday."

"Sir, I don't think that's wise," Ms. J protested. "You have several important appointments lined up this week, and millions could be lost if you miss any of them."

The tycoon thought for a moment, he replies that it's fine, move what can be moved, and let go of what can't be salvaged. "I can afford to lose a few million."

"It's really nice to be super rich huh?" Ms. J joked in a polite way.

The man laughed and said, "It's not like that" He paused again, gathering his thoughts before continuing, "I just have something I really want to do. You know I wasn't always this wealthy. It's been ten years since that day when I thought I had lost everything, where I lost all hope. But after going through a lot, here I am now, happy and with more money than I can even spend in my lifetime. I just want to take a break and celebrate - celebrate life, the life I almost lost, the life I almost took away from myself years ago."

"Alright, sir," Ms. J replied, "I understand. I'll make sure to take care of the schedules. I will do my best to make the necessary adjustments and inform all parties involved."

"Thank you, Ms. J," the tycoon replied. "I really appreciate it."

The next day, the tycoon arrived at Banwa Island with a few close friends and loved ones. The tycoon and his companions arrived on the island of Banwa through a private helicopter ride from Manila. As they descended onto the island, they were greeted by a breathtaking view of pristine white sand beaches, crystal clear waters, and lush tropical forests.

They were escorted to their villa, which was situated on the top of the highest point on the island. From there, they had a breathtaking view of the ocean and the lush greenery surrounding them. The villa was exquisitely designed with luxurious amenities that were carefully chosen to provide maximum comfort.

The group spent their days lounging by the private pool, enjoying the warm sun and the cool ocean breeze. They indulged in delicious food and drinks, prepared by the talented chefs at the resort. They also explored the island, taking in the serene natural beauty and enjoying the various activities available, such as snorkeling, diving, and kayaking.

Each evening, they watched the sunset from the comfort of their villa, sipping champagne and enjoying the peacefulness of the island. They couldn't help but feel rejuvenated and relaxed after their stay on Banwa Island, a true paradise on Earth.

As the night fell, the tycoon sauntered along the beach, the soothing sound of waves serenading his steps. In the distance, he saw a figure, one he knew all too well, standing alone, gazing out into the vast ocean. His heart swelled with love and adoration as he approached her.

"Hey, you doing okay?" he asked, his voice laced with affection.

Her face lit up at the sight of him, "I am, now that you're here," she replied, her eyes twinkling with joy.

"Are you enjoying the vacation?" he asked, taking her hand in his and lacing their fingers together.

"It's been a dream come true. Everything has been perfect, especially being here with you," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Thank you for being with me all these years, through thick and thin," he said, his tone becoming more serious.

She could sense his change of mood and teased him, "Oh no, you're not getting all sentimental on me, are you?"

He took a deep breath, his eyes never leaving hers, "I realized that you are the missing piece in my life puzzle, and I want to spend the rest of my life making every moment with you as perfect as this one. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?"

As he knelt down on one knee, he produced a small box from his pocket. Inside was the most breathtaking diamond ring, shining like stars in the night sky.

The woman's eyes widened, and tears of joy streamed down her face, "Yes, yes, a million times yes."

As they embraced, the tycoon felt the weight of the world lift off his shoulders. Above them, helicopters flew in the sky, showering them with fragrant rose petals. The night sky came alive with fireworks, their explosion of colors illuminating the couple's surroundings.

Their loved ones approached them, each carrying a bouquet of exotic flowers and bottles of the most expensive champagne and wine. They all joined in the couple's celebration, toasting and cheering long into the night, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Chapter 2 All Efforts Down The Drain

February 25, 2023, 6:30 AM - Intramuros, Manila, Philippines

The alarm clock beeped loudly, interrupting Daniel's peaceful sleep. He groaned as he stretched his arms, trying to shake off the sleepiness. He got up and went straight to the shower, letting the cold water wake him up.

As he got dressed, he realized he was running out of clothes to wear to work. He needed to do the laundry soon but couldn't afford to have it done professionally. It was just one of the many problems he was facing lately.

After finishing preparing, he immediately stepped out of his house and walked towards the main road, bracing himself for the long commute ahead. As he looked around, he noticed that the road was already crowded with people and vehicles, all struggling to make their way through the heavy traffic.

He checked his watch and realized that he was already running late. He knew he had to hurry, but the thought of the long and exhausting commute made him feel even more stressed and anxious.

The lack of good public transportation in the Philippines added to his stress. Buses and jeepneys were packed with people, and there were no seats available. Even if there were, they would be uncomfortable and the travel would take twice the time as usual.

The train system was also unreliable and frequently encountered technical issues that caused delays or breakdowns. In the end, he had no other choice but to brave the long commute by foot.

He started walking, but the sun was already high in the sky, making the heat unbearable. He wiped the sweat from his forehead as he continued walking. Cars and motorcycles whizzed by him, adding to the noise and pollution of the already congested streets. It was only 30 minutes later that he found a habal rider to take him to Intramuros, Manila.

The stress and anxiety of the commute made him feel like he was trapped, with no way out. He had to deal with this every day, and it was taking a toll on his mental health.

As he finally arrived at his workplace, he was already tired, stressed, and anxious. The commute had taken a toll on him.

He walked briskly through the corridors of the Metro Times TV building, taking a quick detour to grab a cup of coffee from the pantry. He greeted the security guards stationed at the entrance and flashed his ID card, then headed straight to the studio where the shoot for the day was taking place.

As he walked towards the studio, he could hear the faint sound of laughter and chatter coming from inside. He pushed open the door and stepped inside, taking in the sight of the set that had been meticulously constructed overnight.

The actors were getting their hair and makeup done, and the production crew was busy setting up the lights and cameras. He made his way over to the director's chair and sat down, watching as the chaos of the set gradually began to settle into a cohesive whole.

Despite the stress of the shoot, he loved his job. He enjoyed the challenge of coming up with creative concepts that would grab people's attention and leave a lasting impression. He felt proud of the work that he had done for Metro Times TV, and the thought of losing his job was the furthest thing from his mind.

But fate had other plans for him that day.

Just as he was about to give the go-ahead for the first scene, his phone rang. He answered it, hoping it was a quick call that wouldn't delay the shoot, but it was his operations manager on the other end.

"Daniel, can you come to my office? We need to talk," his manager said, her voice grim and serious.

Daniel felt a sudden knot form in his stomach, and his heart began to race. The tone he heard was all too familiar. He excused himself from the shoot and made his way to the manager's office, his mind racing with a thousand possibilities.

As he walked into the office, he noticed that the HR representative was also there. His heart sank even further. He knew what was coming next.

"Daniel, I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but we're going to have to let you go," his operations manager said, looking uncomfortable.

"Ms. Jessie, why? I- I'm doing a fairly good job for the TV and even helping out with other positions outside my job description without asking for more, b- but this?" Daniel asked, feeling hurt and confused.

Ms. Jessie sighed, looking at Daniel with sympathy. "I understand how you feel, Daniel, but the company is going through some financial difficulties right now. We had to make some tough decisions, and unfortunately, we had to let go of some employees, including you. Another reason the bosses decided to let you go is that the sales of the other department you are helping with are not doing well, thus the manager from the other department gave you a lower rating."

"T-this is unfair. That's not even in my contract." Daniel said softly as he felt a wave of despair wash over him.

The company's decision was indeed unfair, but they made it look like Daniel had a bad performance through a department he was helping out with to make it look like that the company had the basis to let him go.

Daniel felt drained as he realized the implications of losing his job. He had bills to pay, rent to cover, and a girlfriend to support. How was he going to survive without a steady income?

Ms. Jessie continued, "We appreciate your hard work and dedication to the company, so we'll provide you with a recommendation letter to help you find another job. I'm sorry, Daniel. I really am. It's out of my hands."

Daniel nodded silently, feeling defeated. He knew that getting another job in his field would be difficult, given the current state of the economy and the fierce competition in the industry.

Ms. Rose Anne, the HR representative, handed a folder to Daniel as she spoke up next. "Daniel, I need you to sign this termination of contract letter. It will take effect on March 15th," she said, cutting straight to the point.

He felt a surge of anger well up within him, but he tried to keep it under control as he responded, "I'm sorry, but I still think all of this is unfair. I cannot sign that, instead, I will be submitting my resignation letter."

With that, he promptly made his exit.

As Daniel left the office, one couldn't help but feel a sense of pride for him standing up for himself. It was known that signing the termination letter would make it more difficult for him to find another job in the future, as it would be seen as a negative mark on his employment history.

Chapter 3 Resignation

February 25. 2023, 9:30 AM - Intramuros, Manila, Philippines - The Metro Times TV Office

The walk from his manager's office back to his desk seemed longer than it used to be. He didn't remember the hallway in the office being this long. Daniel felt overwhelmed and surreal. He wanted to cry but held back his tears because there were other employees around. Before returning to his desk, he walked towards the smoking area and lit a cigarette. He didn't really smoke anymore, but the stress was too much to handle at that moment. He took a deep drag, feeling the nicotine rush through his body. As he exhaled, he felt a sense of calm wash over him, albeit temporarily. After finishing the cigarette, he returned to his desk.

As Daniel sat at his desk, he couldn't shake off the feeling of betrayal. His mind was racing with thoughts of all the hard work he had put into the company and how it had all gone unnoticed. He took a deep breath and opened his laptop, ready to write the resignation letter.

He paused for a moment, wondering if he should reconsider his decision. After all, he had invested a lot of time and effort into the company, and leaving would mean starting over from scratch. But as he thought more about it, he realized that the company's decision to let go of him and several other employees weren't just about budget cuts or performance. It was a reflection of the company's values and how they treat their employees. And he couldn't just ignore that fact.

So, with a heavy heart, Daniel began typing his resignation letter:

Feb. 25, 2023

Ms. Jessie June

Operations Manager

The Metro Times TV

Dear Ms. Jessie,

It is with a heavy heart that I submit my resignation as Creative Artist and Copywriter from The Metro Times TV. I have greatly appreciated my time at this company and have learned a lot from my colleagues and superiors.

However, after careful consideration, I have decided that it is in my best interest to seek new opportunities elsewhere. While I have enjoyed my time here, I cannot help but feel disappointed at the recent decision regarding the termination of contracts.

I understand that tough decisions have to be made sometimes, but I believe that the company's recent actions have not been aligned with its values. I have always strived to be a valuable member of the team and have put in years of hard work and dedication to this company. Unfortunately, it seems that my efforts have not been fully recognized.

I want to thank you and the entire team for the support and opportunities that have been provided to me during my time here. However, I believe that it's time for me to move on and find a company that aligns with my values and recognizes my contributions.

Sincerely,

Daniel Abelardo

As he typed, he made sure to maintain a professional tone but also expressed his disappointment with the company's decision to let him go. He couldn't help but feel like his efforts were not being appreciated. After several minutes of carefully crafting his message, he finally hit the send button and sat back in his chair, feeling a mixture of relief and sadness. The resignation letter marked the end of his time with the company, but also the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

As Daniel finished sending his resignation letter, he closed his laptop and took out his phone. He opened LinkedIn and began scrolling through job postings, searching for opportunities that he thought would suit him well. He came across a few promising leads and quickly applied, his fingers tapping away on the screen.

As Daniel sat at his desk, waiting for a response from potential employers, his mind wandered to the memories of all the projects and shows he had worked on during his time at The Metro Times TV. He remembered the long hours he spent writing scripts, brainstorming ideas, and collaborating with his team to create engaging content.

His eyes misted over as he remembered the time and effort he had invested in these projects, only to be let go without so much as a thank you.

Despite the memories of his successes, Daniel couldn't help but feel a tinge of sadness and nostalgia knowing that he would soon be leaving the company. He had built friendships with his colleagues and felt a sense of belonging in the office, but it seemed that none of it mattered to the management.

As he reminisced about the events and projects he had worked on, he couldn't shake off the feeling of disappointment that he wasn't appreciated enough. He had put his heart and soul into his work and had hoped that his contributions would be recognized. But as he reflected on their choice to terminate his contract and how he was treated, he couldn't help but feel that his efforts had been in vain.

Despite the emotions he was feeling, Daniel knew that he couldn't stay in a company that didn't appreciate his work and aligned with his values. He had to move on and find a new opportunity that would allow him to showcase his skills and creativity while also being valued as an employee.

Daniel had always been a hard worker and was confident in his abilities. He knew that he would be an asset to any company lucky enough to have him on their team. As he continued to search, he couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for the future.

After a few minutes of browsing, he found a job posting that caught his eye. It was for a creative writer position at a medium-scale advertising agency. The job description seemed to be a perfect fit for his skills and experience. Without hesitation, he sent in his application and hoped for the best.

Daniel closed his eyes and took a deep breath, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. It was time to move on and start a new chapter in his life.
