Chapter 1 The other woman

Jenna's POV

I pulled the door open with a smile on my face, and Christopher, my husband walked in with a small smile on his face, and just as I was about to shut the door, a girl immediately walked in with her suitcase trailing behind her. The both of them walked into the house wordlessly

My brows knitted together, forming a frown on my face as I gently shut the door and immediately went after them.

"Is everything okay, love? You brought a friend home, is she good?" I asked in a hushed tone as I took his briefcase and his jacket from him, yet Christopher didn't say a word in response.

My eyes darted to the girl, and she looked strangely familiar, but I couldn't figure out when I had seen her before.

"Is mum back home?" I dragged my eyes away from her and shook my head.

"She'd be staying out a bit later than usual today. She has her weekly spa appointment booked today. Is everything okay? Should I call her to get home?"

He gave me a tight-lipped smile and shook his head. " Oh, I was just looking for her. There's absolutely nothing wro..."

"There is," the girl pipped in before he could finish and I raised my brows, eyes darting between her and Christopher, who suddenly looked like all the color had been drained away from his face.

"Let's wait till my mother gets back, Lilian."

The name instantly struck a chord in my head, and I could finally place a finger on her familiarity. She was his secretary, he hired her when he took over a year ago.

"Why wait? She's the one we need to tell anyway, she's the wife." I didn't miss the mock emphasis she placed on the word wife, and I narrowed my eyes.

"What is going on here, Christopher?" I asked, staring pointedly at him and he gulped. "Did anything bad happen with the business?" Over the 4 years of our marriage, Christopher has repeatedly crashed many businesses. Getting him to take over my company last year has proven to be a good idea as he has been managing it well, but it seems that has also come to an end.

My grandparents were going to have my head when they find out.

"Talk to me, Chris. Is it the business? What happened?"

"Are you going to talk or not?"

"You should not speak to my husband, your boss, in that manner." I snapped, glaring at the girl, who instantly arched a brow at my words.

"Husband...." She mumbled as if tasting the word, before a smile broke out on her face and she nodded. "Well, I'm not speaking to my boss that way, ma'am," I frowned, and glanced at Christopher, and beads of sweat had formed on his forehead, "I am speaking to my husband that way. Isn't that allowed? Considering I'm pregnant with his baby."

My vision blurred for a split second, and a humorless laugh escaped my lips. "Sorry, what?"

Christopher shuffled close to me and held my arm, a nervous smile tugging on his lips. "Baby, please...take a seat. Let's talk about this."

" You never call me baby..." I muttered, forcing my gaze away from Lilian to his face, "and you are not denying her lies."

"Baby, I..."

"Jenna. That's my name, and that's what you've called me for the last 8 years. Stick to it" he gulped and glanced at her, then back at me.

"Jenna... I can explain."

I scoffed, and tucked my bottom lip in between my teeth. "You want to explain how you got your secretary pregnant? What's your explanation? It was an accident? It was a mistake? It was just once?"

" Definitely wasn't..." I heard her mumble, and my heart sank to my stomach, but I held back the tears blurring my vision.

"Jenna, please hear me out."

My hands itched to throw the briefcase at him, to yell at him, and send him and his baby mama out of my house, but... I couldn't.

My shoulders sagged in defeat, and a sob forced it's way out of my throat, causing the tears I was desperately holding back to roll down my cheeks.

"Why? Why did you do this, Chris! Why?" He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me into his chest, "why? Why?"

"I'm sorry, Jenna. I'm so sorry. It was an accident." He placed a kiss on my forehead, his other arm running down my back in a soothing manner, while I sobbed into his chest, " I'm so sorry. I will rectify my mistake, once she gives birth, she'll leave the house, Jenna. It'll be just us, agon. I'm so sorry," he repeated as I sobbed uncontrollably into his chest.

Finally, I managed to get myself under wraps and broke away from his hold. I managed to create distance between the both of us, and wiped away the tears that had stained my face.

"Lilian, congratulations" she smiled sweetly, and her hand rubbed her belly, "Congratulations to you too, Chris. We've been trying for what? 3 years now, and there's been nothing, but it's coming through her, yeah?" his face lit up and he stared gently at her. "I am genuinely happy for the both of you..."

"Jenna, thank you for being such a good wife. I knew you'd understand"

I rubbed my lips together and smiled. Of course, I'd be called a good wife if I choose to stay with a cheating husband. "Well, the two of you won't nurse that baby in my house, neither will it be fed with the money that comes from my company," his eyes slowly widened and a strange satisfaction curled at the pit of my stomach, "I want the both of you out of my company and my house right now, get your mother's things while at it."

Christopher scoffed, "what are you saying, Jenna? Are you fucking being for real? I said it was an accident! It wasn't supposed to get to this!"

"You can shove that excuse up your ass, Chris. I've borne your bullshit for the past 8 years, but bringing back a pregnant woman for me to take care of, in my house, with my money? That, I will not take. Get. out. of my house."

He ran his hand through his head and exhaled loudly. "Ah, I knew I shouldn't have tried to be nice with this," he muttered underneath his breath and I arched a brow.

"Sorry?"

"Listen, you are practically barren," it felt like I was suddenly dealt a heavy blow, and my breath was instantly sapped out of me. "We've been trying for 3 years, heck, 8 years and nothing has happened. You can't blame me for going out to get a child. You know how much I want one and you've deprived me of it with your inhospitable environment..."

" Christopher.."

" You should be fucking grateful that I'm willing to let you raise this child. Women like you who don't, sorry, who CAN'T bear..."

The rest of his words were drowned out by a smack, and he held his cheek, eyes wide with shock.

" How dare you? How dare you speak about me like that!" I yelled, "I am..."

"Get out,"

I drew back, "excuse me?"

"I said you should leave. Get. Out."

"It's my house," I said, my voice shaky from all the unshed tears, " you should leave."

He laughed and reached for his briefcase that was now on the floor. "You bought this house in my name, Jenna, it's mine" he threw the papers in my face and my eyes widened.

I stared at the papers that had pooled around my feet, and I took a shaky breath while I pulled my head up to look at him. "Fine, I'll go... but, I want you out of my company as well."

"What company? The one you transferred ownership to me?"

"I never..." I inhaled sharply as the memories came rushing back to me. 6 months ago, he somehow managed to convince me to transfer ownership to him because he was being looked down on, and... I did.

A satisfied smile curled up on his face, and he walked over to the sofa and made himself comfortable. "I tried to play it nice with you, but you decided to play the rich brat " He chuckled, crossing a leg over the other. "How does it feel to be penniless now? How will grandpa and grandma feel knowing their legacy doesn't belong to them anymore?" He threw his head back and laughed.

"The choice is yours, Jenna. You can play the rich man's wife and take care of my baby, so your grandparents can pass away in peace or you can walk out of my house right now and never come back."

Chapter 2 Alone and Penniless

Jenna's POV

I felt a kick at the sides of my stomach, and the pain instantly woke me up "Wake up, I need help around the house," Lilian towered over me with her lips pursed in disapproval, "you are sleeping too late."

I forced myself to sit up, and my muscles and every joint in my body screamed in pain. I was forced out of the main bedroom to the basement after that day, a little over a week ago, and the bed I was given was as good as the bare floor.

"Didn't you hear me? I said I need help around the house!" My eyes darted to the clock and it was 5 freaking AM.

" What do you possibly need help with by 5 AM, Lilian? You should be in bed."

"Do I need to report to Christopher or mother before you get your ass up and help?" I sighed and forced myself up from the bed. After finding out what a few fake teardrops could do in her favor, Lilian has not failed to threaten me with them at any given opportunity.

Quietly, we both walked up the stairs with Lilian leading the way. Just like I suspected, we both ended up in the kitchen and she took a seat, and instantly picked up her favorite magazine.

"I'm craving some fresh fruit smoothie. Chris bought some fruit last night, so make me a smoothie."

My lips dropped open and my gaze darted from her face to the fridge repeatedly, before I sighed and pinched the spot between my brows.

"Couldn't you have waited for day break? Or better still make it yourself? A smoothie is not that hard to make for crying out loud? Why did you have to wake me up so early knowing that I slept off late because of you!"

She closed the magazine and slammed it on the table. "Are you talking to me right now?"

"Yes, yes I am."

"I'm going to give you 5 seconds to take back everything you said and apologize."

"Excuse me?"

She licked her bottom lip and stared pointedly at me, and exactly 5 seconds later, she stood up from her chair and fell to the ground with a scream.

I heard doors being slammed open instantly and feet stomping down the stairs in a haste, and soon enough, Christopher and his mum, Chloe, were in the kitchen helping Lilian to her feet.

"What is going on here?" Chloe asked after they had managed to get a sobbing Lilian seated.

I opened my mouth, trying to find the words to explain what happened, but my mind was still reeling in disbelief to form words.

" Weren't you asked a question!?" I turned to Christopher, and he was staring at me with hard eyes. "Why was she on the floor, Jenna? What happened to her?"

"I..." I looked around, and swallowed, "I..."

"I asked her to make me a smoothie," Lilian cut in, still sobbing. "I already brought out and washed everything," she pointed to the fruits in a bowl, " when she walked in and I asked to please help me as I was experiencing leg cramps, and she flared up. She accused me of trying to turn her into a maid and drive her out of here, and when I tried to bypass her and make my smoothie myself, she pushed me."

"She's lying," I said without missing a beat the second she was done, my gaze firmly fixed Christopher's face. "Everything she just said is a lie, and you have to believe me."

"Why should he?" Chloe asked, walking up to me. "I've noticed the anger and jealousy you've been exhibiting towards Jessica. It's not her fault that you are unable to hear children, Jenna. I have waited for years for you to give me a grandchild and you have failed at it, why then are you trying to take away the one coming my way?"

"I didn't do..." I didn't get to finish before she smacked me hard across the face, and the taste of copper filled my mouth, instantly.

"I've had it with you and your lies, Jenna." She turned to her son, "It's time for her to go, send her out of this home."

My eyes slowly widened and I turned to Christopher, shaking my head. "No, please..." I walked over to him, almost pushing Chloe out of the way, "you can't do that. Fine, I take the blame for what happened, I'll apologize to Lilian too, but please, don't send me out."

His eyes softened and he turned to his mum, " mum, she will apologize, and she..."

"Mum, please let her stay, don't send her out because of me," Lilian piped in, shedding more tears.

Chloe smiled and flicked away the tears in her eyes, "I'm doing this for you and my grandchild, Lilian. You're too good, but you have to protect your child." She turned to Christopher and all traces of her smile disappeared, "you either send her away or I leave, with Lilian. Your choice."

Immediately I dropped to my knees, tears pooling in my eyes. " Please, please... I'll do whatever it takes, I'll take care of the baby and Lilian even better, just don't do this, please. My grandparents won't survive it, please. Christopher," I clutched the hem of his pajamas, tears rolling down my cheeks, "please, they've treated you like a grandson, don't do this.. please, please I beg you. Don't do this."

He stared at me with what seemed like pity before he dragged the hem of his pajamas out of my hold and took a step back. "My family is important to me too, Jenna. I can't choose yours over them, you've caused nothing but harm to Lilian since she came and I've taken enough of it."

"Christopher..."

"Pack your clothes and leave my house before the day is over or you leave me no choice but to do it myself."

"No, no no, you can't do this."

"It's already done," Chloe said and my heart clenched painfully in my chest.

"I will only do you the favor of not disclosing yet that the company is now mine. You can break the news to them first." He turned to Lilian and helped her up, "let's go."

"Christopher," I crawled over to him, my hands reaching for him, "please, please don't do this. Chloe please, Lilian! Please!"

Lilian sobbed and turned to me, "I'm so sorry, Jenna. I wish there was something I could do." She smirked at me for a brief second before she turned and placed her head on Christopher's shoulder.

Shock and the tears killed my ability to speak, and I just knelt there watching silently as they both walked away to the room that once belonged to Christopher and I.

"Leave, Jenna. You are no longer needed here. Pack your things and leave."

Through my tear-blurred eyes, I stared at Chloe for a few seconds before I sniffled and slowly stood to my feet. Without saying another word to her, or packing my bags, I walked out of the house.

Chapter 3 Decisions Decisions

Jenna's POV

"Can I have one more drink?"

The bartender stared at me distastefully and shook his head. "I'm sorry ma'am, but you have to pay for the ones you already took before you can get another one."

"That's not a problem. Listen, money is not a problem. I'll pay you, just give me another drink."

He sighed and walked away, leaving me muttering to myself about another drink. I exhaled loudly and stared at the 5 empty shots sprawled out before me, I don't remember chugging them down but my head clearly does from the way it was throbbing, but I still needed more.

I needed more to numb the ache in my heart, and the thoughts swirling in my mind.

"Can I please just have one more? I already told you that I'm going to pay!"

"Ma'am," the bartender walked over to me, "I think you should keep your voice down, or I might ask you to leave. It's still morning, the people here didn't come to party, so please keep it down."

" Then give me what I want!"

" You have to pay first!" He pinched the bridge of his nose and exhaled loudly, " you know what? I think you should pay and leave now, you've clearly had enough."

I shot daggers at him with my eyes, and instantly reached for my phone in my pocket. Dread immediately coiled in my stomach, and beads of sweat formed on my forehead when my hands were met with empty pockets.

I tapped my body frantically, hoping I placed it somewhere else but there was nothing. "I came here with my... " the image of me walking out of the house with nothing jarred into my mind, cutting my sentence off. I walked out of that house with nothing.

"Ma'am?" The bartender called, snapping me back to reality and I bit down hard on my bottom lip.

"Hi..." I said, smiling and he raised a brow. " Umm, how much was all this?"

"70 dollars"

" That much?" He pursed his lips and nodded, clearly getting annoyed. I chuckled and inched closer to him. " Can you lend me 75 dollars? I promise to pay you back."

" Are you being serious right now?"

I batted my lashes and nodded. "My name is Jenna Calista, and I promise to come back and pay you back. So, can you lend me 75 dollars?"

A moment of silence passed as we both stared at each other, before he slowly broke into a smile and dropped the bottle of whiskey he was holding. "You'll pay me back, yeah?" My smile broadened as I nodded, and he mirrored my actions nodding as well before he gently grabbed my hand in his. "Security! We've got someone that doesn't want to pay!"

My eyes widened and I tried to cover his mouth with my free hand, but he had no trouble swatting it away each time as he kept beckoning on the security.

"Stop! Stop that! I said I'm going to pay! Don't embarrass me!"

"Then pay now."

"I don't have my phone with..." from my peripheral vision, I caught a familiar face pass beside me and I froze for a brief second. "Fine, I'll pay you. Keep quiet and let me go."

He narrowed his eyes, and finally stopped beckoning on the security guards that were now advancing towards us. " And how are you going to pay?"

"Let go of me first."

"If you try anything funny, the security won't hesitate to hurt you." I nodded, and he slowly let go of my hand.

The second his hand was off mine, I turned and dashed to the direction I saw him pass.

" Xavier!" I yelled running to him and his squad, and they all instantly halted. " Hold on." I rushed and stood before him, panting.

His team made an attempt to grab me, as well as the security who I assumed went after me thinking I was running away, but Xavier immediately stopped them.

"Do I know you?"

I raised a hand, "give me a second." I placed my hands on my knees and took deep breaths till I finally got my breath under control, then I slowly stood up and stared at the man before me with a small smile on my face.

He was more breathtaking than he was when we were younger, his chiseled jawline and piercing gaze made him look more intimidating than I remember. The fact that he was towering over me by at least 7 inches was not helping either.

"That's what happens when one grows with power."

" What?"

My eyes widened slowly, and I shook my head. That wasn't meant to be said out loud. "Do you remember me?" He angled his head slightly to the side, and stared pointedly at me with no ounce of familiarity in his eyes and I sighed. "It's Jenna, Jenna Calista."

"What do you want?"

I drew back at the iciness in his voice and I gulped. "Umm, you seriously don't..."

"What do you want, Jenna Calista?"

For a few seconds I just moped at him, and my cheeks turned red from embarrassment. He definitely said my name mockingly. "Can I have 75 dollars? I have to pay for my drinks and I need to grab a cab or something but I don't have my phone with me? Think you can spare me that?" I already embarrassed myself, I might as well ask boldly now.

His brow shot up at my shameless request, and all I did in response was smile. "I'll clear your bill, and one of them will drive you home."

"Really?"

"Anything else?"

I smiled and shook my head. "No, not at all. Thank you."

He didn't spare me a second glance nor did he acknowledge my gratitude, and just walked off. I glared hard at the back of his head, and only looked away when I felt a tug on my arm, I guess absolute power really does corrupt absolutely.

Being the richest in the city must have gotten to his head. Compared to the scrawny attractive teen I met, he was much more... I gulped and shook the next line out of my head. It doesn't matter.

"Are you the one driving me back?" The buff man looked at me, from head to toe and just walked away without a response, and my mouth fell open in shock.

"You know it's rude to walk away without giving me a response, right?" I asked as I walked over to the car, but he just held the door open and stared straight ahead as if I wasn't standing before him. I glared hard at him before I scoffed and got into the car.

"Where to?"

Every ounce of energy I had in me slipped away as I gave him the address to Christopher's home. I still had to get my things.

The ride back there was extremely quiet, giving my brain the opportunity it needed to remind me of my horrible situation. I bit the insides of my cheeks hard to keep the tears at bay, but it was pointless.

The realization that I've worked hard for the past 8 years, and I have been left with absolutely nothing was such a painful reality, and my heart ached. Physically.

"We are here."

My eyes went to the two storey building I once called home, and more tears pooled in my eyes, but before they could fall, I wiped them off and exited the car. "Thank you."

"What are you doing in my house?" Lilian asked when she pulled the door open.

"My stuff. I'm here to take my things."

She chuckled and opened the door wider, "go and fetch your... please stay, you really don't have to go. I can still ask mum to let you stay. Please." I raised a brow at the sudden switch, but when Chloe walked into the frame, everything immediately clicked and I resisted the urge to barf at the pretense.

"Don't beg her, Lil. She's not going to stay and continue causing harm to my grandchild simply because she's barren." I bit down hard on my tongue to keep from giving a dirty remark, and just walked away, "she must have sold her parents and her womb for the money. You know, rich people and their diabolical acts."

My legs instantly froze, and I turned to Chloe in shock. "Th.. that was a low blow, Chloe," I whispered, my throat hoarse from the unshed tears that stung it.

"I'm only saying what everyone else thinks. I mean, the business suddenly bloomed when you took over after their death."

"Then why is your son taking it if it's so bloodstained?"

"After putting up with someone like you all these while, it's only fair he gets some sort of compensation."

"Putting up with me?" I scoffed, wiping away the tears, "I..."

"He's going to announce his takeover in two weeks, bantering with me about this is useless. Go and take your things, get out of my son's house and go hold your grandparents or else you don't mind selling their souls for an extra boom in my son's business."
