Unbelievable!
He was looking at her as if he had just won a lottery as if he had been doing something that deserved him the biggest gift of his life. Daniella wasn't going to lie, the look the man was giving her at that time always made her knees weak. It always made her want to run to his side and tell him how glad she was because they were together.
But not at that moment.
She felt like there was that need to make what they had to end, but she couldn't end it. It wasn't that easy, it's not like she would switch something in her head and be like, "hey no more love for him."
It wasn't that simple, the heart. Oh, her heart. It won't allow it to happen, the heart gets what it wants, and what it wants was the guy. She always gave her heart anything it wanted, and she wasn't going to deny it that simple thing.
Him.
Rodgers Peterson.
The Alpha's son.
"Earth to Daniella." She heard him saying but decided on ignoring him, she wasn't going to give him the benefit of walking all over her that day. She loved him so much and that has always been the biggest mistake of the little years of experience she had with men.
NO!
She couldn't call him a man; they were teens who were in love. Scratch that, they were teens trying to love one another and so far, there hasn't been anything good coming from the relationship other than heartbreaks and pain.
"Hey, Daniela I am talking to you," Rodgers said to her, waving in front of her.
It was a little bit funny, the guy always wanted to be answered as fast as he had spoken. It was like he was the king, but it wasn't that far after all he was the alpha's son. Daniella smiled; she could only imagine how Rodgers was becoming all worked up, but seriously he wasn't supposed to be.
Daniella could only think of his wolf going back and forth in his head, thinking of the ways it was going to make hers suffer. Her wolf wasn't pacing, it was busy doing lap dances. For Daniella and Rodgers' wolves, one's happiness was another's sadness.
The two werewolves were like water and oil and they didn't get along, if they were to be left alone with no one to control them, Daniella knew for sure they would tear each other apart.
How the two of them were still dating surprised both of them because clearly, even the universe didn't agree with them.
"Daniella, seriously I am talking to you." That was the longest time she could think she had ever ignored him, and she felt good about herself.
There were two things she knew which can never be hidden for long, it was her sister's favorite line. The sun, the moon, and the truth.
The sun and the moon didn't matter, it was the latter that was important to her. As she sat there looking at Rodgers, she knew there were some things she wasn't going to hide for such a long time, her anger, and the disappointments at him and herself.
The truth.
No!
That wasn't going to happen anytime soon. She couldn't see herself telling him, "Hey this isn't going to work." She was going to stay, and continue to fight for their love.
Was it even possible to stay in the relationship or she was just lying to herself?
"Rodgers Peterson, so you think I don't have ears or what? Of course, I heard you." She told him which was met with a shocking face.
She had raised her voice at him which shook her, it has never happened, Daniella was always calm. Under control. She could control her anger so well, and she never raised her voice at anyone. The pack always told her she had gotten that from her father.
She didn't know why the guy was surprised, was it from her raising her voice or from her calling him by her full name? She couldn't care less, not on that time and that day.
"Not today!" She swore to herself as she continued staring forward as if the guy wasn't even there.
"Daniella Johnson, are we calling each other their full names now, what's wrong with you," he said back, the sentence was supposed to be a question but for him, no, he didn't want an answer, he didn't care that much what was wrong with her.
He just thought something was wrong with her.
"Nothing is wrong with me Rodgers," Daniella told him wondering why she even bothered to tell him that.
It didn't matter anyway, the look on his face looked as when he did when they were young. It was that look that said, "Wait, I am going to tell my father." And Daniella knew the guy was going to tell her father.
The bond between him and his father was very strong and everyone in the pack could see it. Some of the werewolves were jealous, but they never talked or gossiped about it. Okay, maybe they did talk whenever they were alone. But from one look at them when they were staring at the alpha and his son you could see their jealousy.
Daniella always wanted to go to one of them and explain how the father-son, father-daughter, or mother-son and mother-daughter works. They were supposed to act on their own families if they wanted for them to have what the alpha had with their families.
But she couldn't, she had a lot on her plate.
Rodgers knew that, and he knew Daniella knew. And that made him think he was the ruler of her and he was because he was the alpha's son and one day, he was going to be the alpha of their pack.
Shaking her head she pushed the thoughts farther behind her mind, she couldn't think of Rodgers as their alpha.
No way!
For her, it was impossible to think about that. To refer to Rodgers as the Moon Rock Pack Alpha in the future.
"What is wrong with you Daniella?" Rodgers asked again.
"Why does it have to me?" She asked herself that question and her wolf asked her, "Yes, ask him that. Why you." The wolf was angry at the guy, it didn't just ask, it growled.
If you asked Rodgers why he thought anything was wrong with Daniella, he wouldn't give you an answer, he never thought of himself to be wrong; the alpha's son was always right.
She wished they were near their pack home so she could go and cry on her dad's lap. Not like going to her father bawl her eyes while crying, "Daddy daddy" but cry just like a normal person, she could see her sister giving her a smirk while telling her, "I told you so." Even if her sister would tell her she told her so, she would still offer her a shoulder to lean on and an ear to talk to.
However, Daniella didn't want to hear the I told you so, if it was her decision, she wouldn't even be with Rodgers. It was her heart! And whatever the heart ever wanted was what the heart was always given.
They were sitting, and she didn't want to stand. They were supposed to go back to their pack home after finishing their coffee but Rodgers had decided to goof over the baristas, and he didn't just flirt with the female ones, he did flirt with the male ones.
"Rodgers can flirt with anything even with the elves, so long as they had legs and a mouth," Daniella thought while sitting there listening to the love of her life flirt with other people.
Rodgers didn't see anything wrong in it, or how it could make Daniella feel and it was because he was hundred percent sure Daniella was never going to make a scene in front of other people about what he was doing. He only cared about himself.
He couldn't see anything wrong with what he was doing, and the only person who was on the wrong was Daniella.
Disrespectful!
Was there any need for Daniella to explain what was wrong with her?
Daniella couldn't think of one simple reason to do so.
It is well known you can't flirt with other people while you were with your girlfriend or boyfriend, or love husband or wife, neither can you flirt when they were not around. Just don't flirt with other people, you already have the love of your life. Give them their respect, they deserve that.
Daniella thought of the ways she was going to make Rodgers realize what he was doing was wrong, and she wanted to get a perfect way. She didn't want to confront him with that, she thought of buying a perfect book for spouses.
But they were not married, and she had never found a great book for teenagers who were already in love. Or were thinking of getting someone to love.
It was bad, she was just a teenager and Rodgers was the first guy she had anything with.
"Daniella, you are not going to tell me what is wrong with you? I have asked you twice now," Rodgers told her sounding all serious, of course, he was counting. Was he also counting the number of baristas he had been openly flirting with?
"Can I offer you guys anything else?" A female barista came and ask, Daniella couldn't read her name tag because she was facing Rodgers, pushing her name tag and her breast all over Rodgers' face.
"Good Lord, woman have some respect," Daniella said to herself.
"Excuse me?" the barista asked, and Daniella pretended like she didn't hear her. She didn't think she had spoken that out loud.
"Damn! The woman has pretty hearing skills." Daniella murmured.
Rodgers looked at the barista and then at Daniella and smiled. He was thinking of the same thoughts any teenager could think of under that circumstance, he was screaming in his mind, "Fight, fight. Girl fight, Girl fight."
It wasn't like the barista would win the fight, she was human and Daniella was a werewolf. But the scene wouldn't be that bad, and Rodgers thought of how it would be nice to watch her girlfriend pulling the barista's hair.
His dream was short-lived as soon as he looked at the barista and back at Daniella, the look on Daniella's face didn't show there was going to be a catfight soon, and he thought of how good it would be for him to see Daniella in her angry form.
"No, thanks, darling. We are good." He told her sounding so bored.
Darling, seriously. Okay, maybe Daniella was overreacting, but seriously, darling!
"Okay." The barista said and touched his arm, then looked at her as if she had just realized that Daniella was there for the first time. Daniella just nodded; she didn't want to open her mouth because she wasn't sure what was going to come out.
The barista smiled at Rodgers and left. And in Daniella's mind, she knew the barista was going to flirt with other ladies' men.
"Let's go," Daniella couldn't take it anymore, anyways they had already finished their coffee. She had had enough for the morning.
As kids while growing up Daniella admired Rodgers because of his caring and loving nature, he knew which line he was to cross and which one he wasn't supposed to. All that changed as soon as Rodgers realized the girls and the ladies were starting to stare and crush on him.
And not only was he handsome, his charisma too attracted people.
Even if they were on foot, they were almost the pack house. Both of them were quiet, Daniella was busy with her thoughts, and Rodgers, well Rodgers was just being himself. Smiling and smirking at anyone they were passing on their way home.
"I am in love with the pack's lover," Daniella told Rodgers; she had seen how busy Rodgers was smiling at people and not that Daniella had anything against smiling, only that she had never seen Rodgers not smiling.
"Come on, smiling at someone isn't bad. Look, they are the ones who smile at me first."
"Oh. I am not smiling at you, yet you are smiling at me."
"Well..."
"Okay never mind," Daniella said cutting off Rodgers, she knew the guy was going to talk and talk until she agrees with what he was saying. The alpha's son always wanted to be the winner.
"My father was telling me about this competition we are going to have with the Water Pack, he just had the conversation with his Beta and the lead warrior. I think it's going to be so much fun; you remember the competition we had with the Moonlight pack?"
They could see the pack home from a distance, and Rodgers was telling her about the alpha's plan for the competition. Yes, they had fun, but Daniella didn't want to do what they did to compete when the Moonlight Pack had come.
"We can join the fighting team, and no Rodgers I know what you are thinking. We are not going to skip the ropes again." She told him smiling, they had enjoyed skipping the ropes and even won from the moves they did but it wasn't something Daniella wished to do, she was no longer fifteen.
"No!" Rodgers told her, he hated fighting and he always wished the alpha would permit him not to join the pack's warriors during their training, but it was impossible. How could the alpha's son miss to fight? There was no way he was going to be the future alpha with no fighting skills.
"But I have to, there is no way the alpha can't know how to fight." Rodgers continued. Yes, they didn't go fighting every day. But a leader was supposed to be all-round and being werewolves, he was supposed to know how to fight in case anything happened to the pack.
"Oh, now you are the alpha?" Daniela asked him smiling.
"Yes," Rodgers answered all serious.
They looked at each other and laughed, what happened in the coffee shop was all forgotten, well at least for some few hours, and then she will remember because someone or something was going to bring it back. She wasn't Rodgers' lover on their way home, she wasn't that jealous girl who felt heartbroken seeing her boyfriend flirt with other people.
At the moment she was the alpha son's best friend.
"Welcome to Moon Rock Pack." She read what was on the pack house's gate to Rodgers, he smiled at her and Daniella knew that it was his idea. He even asked him and he said it was good, how good was that? It wasn't like any werewolves didn't know where they were when they came to the pack home.
"Bravo! Bravo! Rodgers, you have invented something good, I am proud of you." Daniella told him, then bow down.
"Shut up Ella, the alpha has spoken," Rodgers told her.
Daniella shook her head; Rodgers wasn't going to stop calling himself the alpha when they were together. She remembered one day he had called himself that in front of his dad and the alpha had asked Rodgers if he wanted him to die earlier so he could be Moon Rock Pack's alpha.
"Hi boy, your father was looking for you," the beta told Rodgers. Beta Zoho had just arrived from his morning run, he stared at Daniella and smiled. Daniella knew why. Rodgers told him he had already received the message through their mind link.
"Ella, I will see you later?" He asked and kissed me on her cheek, the alpha's son had been called and with a very innocent kiss on her cheek, he had left her there standing with Beta Zoho who was still smiling at her,
Daniella didn't want to ask she knew she would the answer, "You are so smitten."
He knew everything that was going on in the pack, as he had to report them back to the alpha. But Daniella had never been summoned by the alpha and asked what she was doing with his son, and that meant the beta had never reported that to the alpha.
To everyone, she was the alpha's son's best friend. And only her siblings and her father knew what was going on. But whenever they were together alone, they were lovers, and Daniella hated it, she wished she could announce to the world how lucky she was to be the alpha's son lover.
"I know," she told the beta, he was good, carefree and the pack loved him.
"I didn't say anything, Daniella." He answered her and shuffled her hair. Daniella glared at him, she hated when he did that yet he kept on doing that even after she had grown up. Even with the glare, she had been giving him every day they met; the beta still hadn't gotten the memo that shuffling hair was for kids.
He laughed and left her standing there, she shook her head and went straight to the house she live in. They stayed in one compound, and the wolf's family have their own home. They also have the main house where the alpha, the beta, and their families stay. It is also where their meetings take place.
As she was almost there she stood still, she heard her father and her sister talking about her baby brother who was sick. It was stressing her father and he always depended on her eldest daughter.
They stopped talking as soon as she entered the house, they didn't want her to hear. It wasn't like she couldn't see or hear that her brother was sick. Only that they didn't want Daniella to be worried. She greeted them and headed to her brother's room to check on him.
There was some water and a bowl on the table near his bed and a wet towel on his forehead, she took them and started wiping his face.
"Daniella there is some lunch in the kitchen, go and eat now so you can't be late for the meeting." Her dad whispered to her; they didn't want to wake up her brother Darius.
Which meeting?
She wasn't aware there was going to be any meeting on that day, her father explained to her that the alpha had summoned the pack for an urgent meeting. Daniella asked her father if everything was okay.
"Yes, don't be paranoid. Where were you? No, don't answer that." Her dad said.
She wished they were not whispering so she could swear on her life it wasn't what her father was thinking.
"Don't say it, Daniella, just go take your lunch." Her dad told her as she stood up.
"Dad come on, I was not skipping the rope," she told him smiling, of course, she was not going to tell her father she was with Rodgers taking coffee. Because that meant she could start telling him Rodgers was flirting with other ladies.
Again!
She went and found her sister making porridge for their brother, she looked sad and Daniella knew her sister wasn't going to attend the meeting. But her sister told her to take her lunch so they could go together to the meeting, she was surprised why her sister would leave her brother.
The surprised look on Daniella's face made her sister explain that there was no way she and their dad would miss the meeting.
"Okay," Daniella told her sister and served herself and ate.
On their way to the meeting, she could see her sister looking at her from the corner of her eyes. Daniella knew her sister was waiting for her to start rambling about what has happened in the morning while she was out for coffee.
"Just ask sister, just ask. Shoot any question and I will answer right away," Daniella teased her sister.
