Howling

Lublin is a small village in Poland. Now it's rainy season. It is raining outside and cold wind is blowing. The scent of rain-soaked soil is floating in the air. Alexa is smelling that scent. Doriana entered the room and saw her daughter sitting by the window. Doriana lowered the lantern from the shelf of the table to light the fire and said to the girl,

"Close the window. You have become wet.

Alexa looked at her mother once and looked back to the rain again. Doriana lowered the lantern on the table and closed the windows one by one. Alexa got up and went to bed.

She is looking at the lantern with one glance. Doriana handed over a bag to her. As soon as Doriana left the room, Alexa took the bag and put it aside on the table. She took a notebook from the shelf of the table. All pages of the notebook are written! She will have to make a new book again. She left the notebook and took the bag in her hand.

A few bunches of colored wool and two cuts. She have to knit three sweaters. Alexa is knitting very carefully. One of her special qualities is that she does any work very skillfully. She is also quite good at studies.

She is about to cross the boundaries of school and go to college. Her friends have left the village and moved to the city for study. But Alexa's parents did not allow her to go out of the village. Alexa also planned to travel to the city under the pretext of studying.

But Doriana hoping for her help, put her daughter to work. Alexa did not drop out of school because there was no college in the village. Her childhood friend Julian moved to the city for study. With his help, Alexa bought college books and trying her best at home. When Julian comes to the village on vacation, she learns the rest from him.

Alexa returned to reality at Doriana's call. She had been busy making dinner in the kitchen for so long. She came over and said in surprise,

Alexa's younger brother Daniel is busy in gossiping with his father Allen. Alexander's father, Allen Markzick, is a florist by profession. Alexa pulled up a chair and sat down. While eating, Allen called out to his daughter,

Alexa's full name is "Alexandra Markzick. Everyone calls her Alexa in short. Only her father affectionately calls her by her full name.

Alexa looked at her father and said, "Yes, Dad.

Allen said, "I'll be gone a little early tomorrow morning. Bring me two baskets of flowers if you can."

Alexa nodded and said to her mother, "Mom, Call me at the dawn tomorrow.

Doriana said in tense mood, "Dawn! means it's dark all around !! I'll call you in the morning, get out when the sky is clear.

Alexa didn't speak anymore. She knew there was no point in explaining to her mother. If she don't go out in the dawn, it will be too late to pick flowers. She decided in her mind that she would leave at dawn.

Alexa turned off the lantern light and lay down on the bed. Outside, the rain has stopped, and cold air is blowing through the windows. She fell asleep in the cold air.

Alexa's two-story wooden house is at the far end of the village. Behind the house are Alexa's crop fields and orchards. They have merged into a hilly slope shaded by trees and bushes.

It is said that a lot of wolves live in that mountain forest. In winter, wolf herds attack the sheep of almost all the farmers' farms in the village.

Alexa woke up at the sound of knocking, got out of bed and slowly opened the door. It was pitch dark outside. She entered the room and closed the door, but did not sit on the bed.

Alexa was walking around the room. Once annoyed, she took the bag from the table and took out the wool and cut. The sky has cleared a bit after dark, but nature has a long way to go.

Without further ado, Alexa wrapped a sweater over her lucid gown and a scarf around her neck. She took the lantern from the table and left the room. She left the kitchen with two flower baskets for the purpose of forest at the back of the house.

The other day she waits for her friends and goes to the forest together to pick flowers. But she have to take flowers this morning, so she will not be able to call anyone in this dawn. Better a poor horse than no horse at all. And after a while her friends will come too.

Alexa walks slowly through the orchards, through the orchards. As soon as she entered the forest, she was busy picking flowers.

Due to the rain all day yesterday, the soil of the forest has become wet and muddy. The sky is slowly clearing, The birds are chirping all around. Alexa stood up with two baskets of flowers. When she looked back, she saw the footprints of wild animals in the rain wet mud !! Alexa paused, whispering in her mouth, "Wolf !!!

Alexa sat down in a chair with two baskets of fruit on the dining table. She filled a glass with water and drank. Alexa's father Allen got ready and came out of the room and see her girl sitting still. He pulled up a chair and sat down. Alexa looked at him for a while and smiled sweetly and said,

"I have brought two baskets of flowers.

Allen laughed and put his hand on the girl's head and said, "It's time for me to go.

The rented carriage came and stopped in front of Alexa's house. Doriana handed Allen a medium-sized hand-woven bag. Alexa asked in surprise,

"You're taking a bag of clothes !! How long is the tour dad !?

Carrying the luggage in the carriage, Allen said to the girl, "This is a week's journey. Be careful not to go out later in the evening unless necessary.

After kissing her forehead, Allen got into the carriage and sat down. Alexa came to her room after saying goodbye to her father. Doriana is calling for breakfast. After freshened up, Alexa went to the dining room and sat down.

Pigeon soup, bread and vegetables for breakfast. Daniel has been crying ever since. Dad didn't tell him why before he left. Alexa handed her brother a spoonful of soup and said,

"Daddy will be back soon, and he'll bring you a lot of toys and chocolates."

Daniel turned the spoon back and began to eat. Alexa smiled and focused on eating.

Today, the sun is shining all day long, and it is very hot. Alexa is knitting a woolen sweater at Emily's house. Emily and Alexa are childhood friends. Seeing their friendship, it would seem that they are not girlfriends, they are two sisters.

Emily and Alexa became involved in various gossips while knitting sweaters. Emily has no parents, she is close to her older sister Ella. But after Ella's marriage, she had to live alone in the whole house.

Although she was scared at first, now she has become accustomed to it. Emily has a huge farm. Ella and Emily have built the farm together. The farm has hens, chickens and sheep.

Alexandra did not notice when the afternoon rolled into the evening. Emily looked up at the sky and said anxiously,

Alexa hurried out of Emily's house. Their home is far from Emily's home. It takes ten minutes to reach by carriage and about half an hour on foot! The carriage runs on this road till afternoon, but not a single carriage is found as evening falls. At night no one leaves the house in Lublin. Who knows when the wolf will attack!

Evening has fallen, the sky is not good. It can rain at any time. Alexa's home at the far end of the village. There are no more houses around her house. Only crop fields and orchards !!

It's raining cats and dogs, and Alexa is cursing herself in her mind. Why is it so late! How late to return now !! In the meantime this rain !!!

Today, there is no relief from the mother's reprimand when she returns home wet. Alexa is thinking and moving fast.

Suddenly it seemed that someone was coming after her !! She quickly turned her head and turned back. Where!

As far as can be seen, there is no sign of people on the road !! Noticing that, Alexa increased her walking speed. And after a while, Alexa's house, their two-storey wooden house standing far away from here can be seen.

Suddenly it seems that someone is watching her from very close !! Alexa quickly turned her head and looked around. She could not see anything in the pitch dark. But her sixth sense has sensed the existence of something terrible. Alexa quickly stepped out and ran into the house.

As soon as she entered the house, Alexa heard Doriana's scolding. She went straight to the bath without listening to her. After taking a bath, Alexa came downstairs and sat down.

"Where have you been all this time?"

Alexa said while eating , "At Emily's house.

Doriana gritted her teeth and said, "It was good, but why is it so late to return !? Didn't i say, wherever you are, you will return home before evening.

Alexa nodded and nodded, "It won't happen again.

Doriana ate and went upstairs to her room with her son. Alexa came into the kitchen to wash the dishes after eating. Outside the rain has stopped, the cold wind is blowing.

Alexa was startled when she looked out of the kitchen window. A giant beast is roaming in their orchard !!! Slowly she went to the window and peeked out.

The clouds moved in the sky and the light of moon appeared. In that light and in the darkness all around, strange shadows are playing in the garden.

Seeing the huge four-legged animal in that light, A cold current of fear rushed down Alexa's spine. The animal wandered around the crop field and went to the forest.

It slowly merged into the pitch dark !! Alexa ran upstairs to her room and locked the door. Alexa was lying on the bed with her head down. Once she wanted to see the wolf with her own eyes. But even though she didn't see it clearly today, she has started to squabble over what she saw.

Alexa woke up in the morning by hearing Emily's call, Emily weared a purple knee-length skirt and a white ladies shirt. Her brown hair has been braided and the flowers have blossomed in it.

Alexa broke down and sat down to have breakfast. She was wearing a blue frock, her hair was loosely tied with blue ribbons. she went out to walk with Emily.

Alexa and Emily went into the woods and sat down next to a pond on the right. Alexa was shocked when she remembered the horrible scene she saw last night. Suddenly Emily asked Alexa,

"Do you like Juliano?"

Alexa was a little shocked to hear about that words. She asked," What?

Emily smiled quietly for a moment and said, " Actually, I like him. But

Alexa asked again, "But what !?

Emily said sadly, "Juliano probably likes you.

Alexa laughed and said, "What are you talking about, Emily! Juliano is my best friend. We're just friends."

Emily let out a sigh of relief and said, "Really !? Then please help me !!

"Tell me what help you need," Alexa said as she put some wild flower on Emily's braid.

Emily blushed with embarrassment and said,

"You know Juliano well, you know me well too. Now you can help me win his heart and he will like me too. Alexa please please please!"

Alexa thought for a moment and said, "Well, what can I get for that !?

Emily can't think what to give Alexa in return. Confused, Alexa said with a sigh,

Alexa removed her hand from her mouth. Emily said again, "That such a brutal murder is not the work of any human being.

After spent some time, Alexa and Emily walk back down the jungle road. Suddenly they turned back at the call of someone. A handsome young man standing a little distance away.

Some of his neatly combed hair has come down to his wide forehead. Sleeves of his gray shirt is folded. Mud drops attached to the bottom of his black trousers. Beard on his fair skin.

Emily smiled sweetly and said, "Yes, are you calling us !?

The handsome young man smiled and said, "Yes, you look like local here.

Emily laughed and said, "Yes, yes.

Immediately Alexa hit Emily with her elbow.

The young man looked around and said,

"I am William Arthur. I came here yesterday to visit with my friends. I lost my way at night and could not find them. I can't find a way out of the jungle now. If you could help me!

Alexa said calmly, " Well, come with us.

Alexa pulled Emily's hand.

Arthur came out of the woods in front of Alexandra's house. Alexa pointed to the village road and told Arthur,

"You can go straight to town by this road.

Arthur let out a sigh of relief and said, "Thank you so much.

Emily interrupted, "You're probably tired, you've been in the woods all night. You can either rest here or have some breakfast.

Alexa looked at Emily in surprise. Emily gestured and said something to Alexa. But Alexa couldn't understand. Arthur thought for a moment and said,

"When you say so much. How can I not, let's go.

After got fresh up Arthur was surprised when he entered and sit in the dining room. Doriana served a feast of about five or six terms. Arthur smiled and said,

"What was the point of doing so much, Aunty !?

Doriana laughed and said, "Hey there's nothing so much !! Just roast chicken, Jufa Grizzawa (mushroom soup), vegetables, malta juice, quail eggs and sweets.

Arthur start eating and Alexa's mother has started gossiping with him. Emily and Alexa are leaning against the dining room door. Alexa whispered,

"The boy was leaving. Why did you call him again !?

Emily whispered, "What can I do without calling! The boy has been wandering in the forest without eating all night. What's wrong with you if you let him eat a little !?

Alexa muttered, "That was the big problem. The wolf's panic is growing in Lublin. And this guy says, he spent the whole night in the jungle !!

Emily and Alexa come to take Aurhur down to the road. Arthur rented a carriage and said to Alexa, "Thank you for everything. Alexandra.

Alexa was a little surprised to hear her full name from Aurthur. She asked him surprisingly,

Before Arthur could say anything, Emily said, "Aunty must have said that.

Arthur and Emily got into the carriage and Alexa took a bath after back home. Emily is sitting in the seat opposite of Arthur. Emily fell in love with Arthur the first time she saw him. She has probably never seen such a handsome boy in her life. Arthur growled and asked,

Emily smiled sweetly and said, "Yes, Alexa is my childhood friend.

Emily laughed even though she didn't want to, "Oh, see you then.

As soon as Emily got down from the carriage, the carriage ran away with lightning speed. Emily stared at the carriage for a moment and then walked home.

Alexa is having breakfast. Doriana is sitting in the yard knitting sweaters. Daniel went to school. After a while two women came and took the sweaters with a few more bags. Doriana puts the bags on the dining table and says,

"I've got five more sweaters. They'll come to take these next day.

Alexa went to her room with the bags. She left with a few books, a notebook and a pen. Alexa is walking along the village road. Today she will go to Julian's house. She received a letter from Julian yesterday afternoon. Before returning from the city, Julian wrote that he was coming to the village on vacation.

Julian's house is on the left side of the road to Emily's house. Julian's father is a farmer. With a medium-sized cottage, It has three small rooms and a kitchen. Julian's mother is sick, and Dad works on the farm all day. Julian's older sister stays with her family all year round. She is having trouble with her husband.

As soon as she entered Julian's house, Julian's older sister Julie smiled sweetly and said,

Julian said angrily, "I didn't get the answer to my question!

Alexa's arms are shaking, she can't think what to say. She thought to herself, "Emily was right, Julian took me more than just a friend. But what can I do now !?

Alexa startled and said, "It's getting late Julian, I have to go.

And Alexa somehow ran away without delay. She is very angry, whether he is the friend she has been thinking about for so long !! Bigger than that, Emily loves Julian. Alexa decided in her heart that she would never come to read to Julian again.

The clouds parted in the sky, and the sun shone from time to time. After get back home, Alexa went straight to her room. Arthur sits down to have lunch with Alexa. Arthur has already chum up with Daniel. While eating, Doriana asked,

"Where is your home, Arthur?

Arthur said quietly for a moment, "I'm from Warsaw.

Alexa asked in surprise, "In the capital !! I thought you lived in a nearby town.

Arthur laughed and said, "No, I live in Warsaw. I came on tour from varsity last time.

Alexa asked with great interest, "Which varsity do you study !?

Arthur stared at Alexa for a moment, then focused on eating again. Alexandra felt humiliated. While eating, Arthur said,

"I am studying in the English department at the University of Warsaw.

Alexandra is very keen to learn English. From a young age, she was very interested in foreign countries. Before she could tell Arthur anything more, Doriana lightly rebuked her daughter and said,

The afternoon sun has risen, the farmers are working in the fields. Herds of sheep are roaming in the green desert. The chirping of birds is coming. Julian is standing in front of Alexa's house.

Daniel and Alexa chatting with Arthur. Daniel fell asleep on Alexa's lap long ago. Arthur describes the vast world outside of Lublin. Huge city Warsaw! People there !! Their Dresup! Dishcloth Gourd!! Roads !!

Different institutions in the city, study there !! Alexa is swallowing everything. Suddenly Arthur and Alexa heard someone's footsteps and turned back. Alexa feeling a little uncomfortable looking at Julian. She said to Arthur,

"Danny is asleep. Let's put him to bed.

Alexa pretended not to see Julian and took Daniel away. She laid him down in her parents' room and came out of the room. Arthur stares at Julian from head to toe. Julian wondering what this stranger is doing in Alexa's house! Alexa stood in her room. Julian smiled and said,

"Sorry, Alexa for the morning thing.

Without letting Julian say anything else, Alexa whispered, "I forgot about it, Julian. It's better if you forget too. I don't want to talk about it anymore."

Julian leaned forward towards Alexa and said, " Alexa!

Alexa stepped back a few feet, her eyes hardened, and said, " you can leave if you have nothing else to say.

Arthur once looked at Alexa and once at Julian. Julian realizes that Alexa won't listen to him now. Why he went to speak with her like this !! Julian is now angry with himself. He quickly got down from the second floor and walked out of Alexa's house. Alexa stared at Julian's way. Julian is her childhood friend, their years of friendship have faded in an instant. Arthur cleared his throat and said,

"It's getting late, I have to go back.

Alexa restrained herself and said, "Hmm, let's go.

Arthur and Alexa have come a long way from Alexa's house. They are waiting for carriage, Alexa is looking anxiously somewhere far away. Arthur looked at her and said,

Almost immediately a carriage came and stood in front of them. Arthur got up and sat on it. Alexa returned home as soon as Arthur left.

Julian comes out of Alexa's house and inter into the forest. He has liked Alexa since childhood. He doesn't know when that 'like' turned into 'love'. After leaving Lublin, Julian realizes how much he loves Alexa. But Alexa! She rejected him !!

It was getting late in the afternoon, and Julian was sitting on the edge of the forest in the pitch dark. He is looking at the house of Alexandra, which is standing nearby. Lantern lights flashed in Alexa's room on the second floor.

It's time to meet again with her. Anyway, he has to convince her that how much he loves her! Julian giggled happily. He came down from the edge of the forest and entered Alexandra's orchard. Today is the full moon. The silver moon has risen like a round dish in the sky!

Floating all around in the moonlight. Julian walks through the orchards following that light. Suddenly he was startled by the roar of wild animals. Julian does not have the courage to look back!

Holding his breath, he slowly turned back. Noticed, something is moving in the jungle! Julian is trying to see clearly. After a while, the herbs are just moving. He can't think who is wandering in the jungle on a raft this evening !!

It is certain that there is no one from this village, because the people of the village lock the doors and windows of the house and hang the cross for fear of wolves before evening falls.

Julian's hands and feet became cold as soon as he remembered the wolf. Today is full moon ! He's still out of the house this evening !!

Julian's gaze was fixed on the beast coming out from behind the bushes in front of him !!

The giant hairy wolf is standing a few steps away from him !! The cold current of fear went down Julian's spine !!!

He stopped screaming, it was as if someone had squeezed his throat !!! His body seems to be fading, he can no longer stand on two legs !

The wolf folded its hind legs and looked at the moon hanging in the sky.

With the weight on the front two legs, it raised its face and made a terrible unearthly roar !!! Almost immediately hundreds of wolves howling from far away came to the ears !!!

Julian returned to his senses. He ran with the highest strength of his body. He does not even know where he went after losing his sense of direction.

The wolf stood up straight and stared at Julian, who was running through the crop field. Out of the front canine teeth, the terrible beast ran at lightning speed !!!

The sky is covered with thick black clouds,Lightning strikes intermittently. It has been raining in Lublin since last night, not to mention stopping.

Alexa is sitting by the window in her room. Lightning is thundering loudly !! Now there is no way to understand that it's morning or afternoon. Doriana came and called her for lunch a while ago. Alexa closed the window and left the room.

Daniel is playing with his toy. Suddenly a woman and her baby came and stood under Alex's house in the rain. Doriana called the woman to feed the boy. She is a middle-aged woman, with her one-and-a-half-year-old son.

At Doriana's call, the woman came and sat on the verandah. The two of them got wet in the rain.

Doriana asked,

"Cecilia, why did you come out this rainy day !?

Alexa looked at the woman. Cecilia took the large handkerchief out of the plastic bag slung over her shoulder and wiped her face. Wiping the baby's hands and feet, she said,

"I went to the market, Doriana. I sold the chickens this morning. We didn't eat all day yesterday. Samuel cried all night for hunger !!"

Doriana sighed and said, "How long will it take Cecilia to sell the farm chickens like this !? Samuel has to grow up.
