ANIKA POV:
The scream that tore from my throat was primal, raw, the sound of a woman being ripped apart from the inside out. Sweat plastered my hair to my forehead as another contraction seized my body.
And then-crying.
Two sharp, furious wails filled the delivery room, announcing their arrival to a world that would never welcome them.
"Twins!" the doctor exclaimed. "A boy and a girl. Healthy. Strong. Listen to those lungs!"
I collapsed against the blood-soaked sheets, every muscle in my body trembling, I forced my eyes open.
Two tiny, wrinkled creatures, their skin flushed pink, their fists waving in outrage at being evicted from their warm sanctuary. They were so small. So impossibly fragile. My pups.
My heart swelled with a love so fierce it threatened to crack my ribs open.
Through the haze of exhaustion and pain, I heard the nurses at the door.
"Alpha Dixon Christian? Your mate Anika Rhodes has given birth! Twins! Are you there?" Sarah, the head nurse, called out into the empty hallway. Her voice echoed. "Anyone here for the new mother?"
Silence.Not a response.
I knew he wouldn't come. I had known it the moment I signed that Rejection Agreement three months ago.
But I had still called him. I had still informed him I was in labor. I had still, somewhere deep in my pathetic, lovesick heart, hoped he might show up. That the sight of his own children might stir something inside that cold, frozen chest of his.
How naive I was.
"The father's not answering," Sarah murmured to the other nurse, her voice laced with pity. "Not even a single family member."
Orderlies wheeled me from delivery-too weak to fight, too spent to care about the blood and sweat crusting my skin.
The hallway was cold, fluorescents flickering a sickly pallor.
And then I heard it. His voice.
"The elevator's this way, darling. I already spoke to Dr. Hayes. He'll take care of everything."
My blood went cold. My heart stopped.
I turned my head, the movement costing me more effort than it should have, and looked down the hallway.
Dixon Christian.
Alpha of the Christian Pack. My fated mate. The father of my newborns.
And beside him, clinging to his arm like she belonged there, was Jaime Rhodes.
My adoptive sister. The true jewel of the Rhodes family.
She was draped in designer maternity wear, her baby bump proudly on display, her smile radiant and smug. Dixon's hand rested protectively on the small of her back as he guided her toward the maternity ward's entrance.
My vision blurred. Hot tears spilled down my cheeks, mixing with the sweat and grime on my face.
This was why he hadn't come.
I was lying on a mobile bed, still bleeding, still trembling, having just given birth to his children, and he accompanied my adoptive sister to her prenatal check-ups.
"Ma'am?" one of the orderlies said, finally noticing my silent tears. "Are you alright?"
No. No, I wasn't alright. I was shattered. Broken. Dying inside.
When I opened my eyes again, I was already in a regular hospital room.
The dim ward held six beds, thin linens. A husband fed his wife; across, a grandmother bounced a crying pup. Laughter filled the air-but my corner was silent, save for the monitors' hum.
The nurses had placed my pups in their incubators beside my bed. They were sleeping peacefully, their tiny faces peaceful, unaware of the cruelty of the world they had just entered.
The television mounted on the wall was playing an entertainment news program. The volume was low, but each word felt like it was being driven into my ears.
On the screen, Dixon was gently guiding Jaime Rhodes into a high-end maternity clinic, Jaime nestled against his side, a victor's smile playing on her lips.
The headline read: "Christian Pack Alpha Spotted with Top Actress Jaime Rhodes at Clinic-Expecting?"
I could feel the gazes of everyone in the room upon me, mixed with contempt and pity. Their whispering sounded like the buzzing of mosquitoes.
"Isn't she Anika Rhodes? She's the Omega the Christian Alpha publicly rejected, right?"
"So pitiful. Her mate is with another woman while she's giving birth."
"What's there to feel sorry for!You probably don't understand the real situation, the Rhodes family kindly adopted her, yet she stole the lover of her sister!"The other voice responded sharply.
"If not for Dixon keeping her out of the spotlight all these years, the public would have torn her apart the moment they saw her for who she is. She got off easy!"
Those filthy words made me feel disgusted, and my heart pounded violently against my ribs.
remembered months ago, when Dixon had thrown a "Rejection Agreement" in front of me. He said he and Jaime were meant to be, and I was just a mistake made by the Moon Goddess.
He had threatened me. If I didn't agree, he would ensure my pups were sent to the most remote Pack foster system the moment they were born, where I would never see them again.
To protect them, I signed. But the law required the final rejection ceremony to be done in person, with both parties present to make the public declaration. The process was never officially completed.
Now, the children were born. I had to fight for a future for them, a future free from scorn and cold shoulders.
My hand trembled as I reached for the phone on the bedside table. I took a deep breath and dialed.
The phone rang for a long time. I thought he wouldn't answer. I almost hoped he wouldn't. But then-
"What?" His voice was impatient, like I had personally offended him by interrupting whatever he was doing.
I swallowed the bile rising in my throat and forced myself to speak. "Dixon. The twins are born. A boy and a girl. They're healthy."
I wait. What am I waiting for-a glimmer of joy, a hint of surprise, any sign at all.
There was silence on his end. And then-
"Honey," Jaime's voice interrupted, syrupy sweet, "is everything alright? Come see the screen! The baby's kicking again!"
My blood froze in my veins, followed by Dixon's even colder tone.
"Listen, Anika. I have more important things to worry about than your farces. If you need money, contact my assistant directly. If it's nothing important, please don't bother me again."
His words were like a bucket of ice water, extinguishing the last flicker of unrealistic fantasy in my heart. I wasn't here to beg for money.
"Dixon--"
Before I could respond, the line went dead.
I sat there, frozen, staring at the screen as it slowly faded to black.
He doesn't have to love me. But how can he not even spare a shred of love for his own children?
I laughed, a dry, sorrowful laugh. I looked at my children, and a force like nothing I'd ever felt before surged from the depths of my soul.
I had given him every chance. I had tried to be understanding.
But this-abandoning his own children, dismissing their existence as unimportant-this was beyond forgiveness.
I stroked the twins' tiny cheeks, their warm skin soft beneath my fingers.
The tears were still streaming down my face, but my expression shifting from despair to one of steely resolve. From this day forward, I was no longer the Anika who begged for his affection. For my children, I would take back everything.
ANIKA POV:
I woke up from a series of fragmented nightmares, the wound in my abdomen still aching dully. The dreams were filled with Dixon's cold face and Jaime's triumphant smile.
The sky outside the window was beginning to pale. A new day had begun, but my world was still gray.
I propped myself up, my body weak, and looked toward the incubators. The two little ones were sleeping peacefully, their even breaths the only sound that could comfort me now.
My thoughts drifted back to the past. I grew up in the Christian Pack's orphanage, told from a young age that my bloodline was weak, that I was an unwanted child.
The Rhodes family adopted me only to provide a playmate for their sickly, precious daughter, Jaime. In that house, I was always the backdrop, the foil to Jaime.
That was until my eighteenth birthday ceremony. Dixon, as the Pack's Alpha, was in attendance, and the intense Fated Mate bond erupted between us. For a moment, I thought I was the luckiest person in the world.
But Dixon's wolf, though it had roared Mine!, the man himself was filled with disgust for me. He had always loved Jaime, believing that I, an Omega of unknown lineage, had sullied his noble status.
He never marked me. Our relationship existed only on paper, a designation from the Moon Goddess and a record in the Pack's archives, fragile and easily broken.
When I found out I was pregnant, he showed no joy, only rage. He saw it as a despicable trick to tie him down, which led to the "Rejection Agreement."
A knock at the door pulled me from my memories. I looked toward the entrance, wary, thinking it was someone sent by Dixon.
The door opened, and a strange man walked in. He wore a doctor's white coat and appeared to be in his thirties, with a pair of rimless glasses perched on his nose that gave him a refined, polite air.
Behind him followed the head of this hospital's obstetrics department, Dr. Alan Roberts, who was bowing to him with utmost respect. This man's status was clearly extraordinary.
The stranger didn't look at me first. He walked straight to the incubators, his brow furrowing unconsciously as his gaze fell upon my children.
I tensed immediately, struggling to sit up. "What do you want? Don't touch my children!" My voice was hoarse and filled with hostility.
The man turned. His blue eyes studied me through the lenses, devoid of malice. Instead, they held a strange, urgent curiosity.
He walked slowly toward me, each step careful, as if afraid of startling a wounded animal.
"Don't be nervous, Miss Anika," his voice was gentle and professional. "I'm Dr. Harrison Beaumont, a Healer. I'm just here to confirm a few things."
A Healer? They were the rarest and most revered beings in the werewolf world, possessing innate healing abilities. Why would a Healer be here?
Harrison's gaze finally settled on my bare wrist, where a small, crescent-shaped birthmark was visible.
When he saw the birthmark clearly, I saw his pupils constrict violently. His body even swayed almost imperceptibly. His eyes were filled with shock, elation, and disbelief.
This intense wave of emotion left me confused and uneasy. Did he know me? Or rather, did he know this birthmark?
"You..." he began, his voice trembling with emotion. "Will your family come to visit you soon?"
This question felt like a stone that was thrown down upon my chest. My voice was filled with bitterness. "I have no family."
Harrison took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, but his eyes behind the lenses were shining with an astonishing light.
He suddenly turned to Dr. Roberts, his tone becoming firm and authoritative. "Alan, prepare a Healer's blood-rite at the highest level. Immediately. Use my authority."
Dr. Roberts's jaw dropped in shock, but he nodded at once. "Yes, Dr. Beaumont." He then hurried away.
A blood-rite? That was an ancient ritual used only when searching for a lost noble bloodline.
My heart began to race, a preposterous yet uncontrollable premonition welling up inside me.
Harrison turned back to me, his gaze now a mixture of pity and excitement. "Don't be afraid, child," he said. "I may have... found you."
His words were like a stone dropped into a still lake, sending massive waves through my dead heart. At this moment, when I had been abandoned by the entire world, a mysterious light seemed about to shine into my dark life.
HARRISON POV:
I stood in the corridor outside Anika's room, my palms slick with sweat. I kept adjusting my rimless glasses, but even this habitual motion couldn't calm the storm raging inside me.
Twenty years. Not a single day had been truly happy for the Beaumont Pack since my little niece, my brother Montgomery's only daughter, was stolen from her cradle.
We had searched all over North America, using every resource at our disposal, but it was like she had vanished into thin air.
Until today. I had come to this hospital for a routine inspection when I caught a very specific, almost forgotten scent. It was the scent of my sister-in-law Francesca's White Wolf bloodline, but younger, purer, and mixed with the milky aroma of newborn pups.
The scent led me to Anika's room. When I saw the crescent-moon birthmark on her wrist, identical to my sister-in-law's, I nearly stopped breathing.
Dr. Roberts came running with a sealed report, his face a mask of awe and disbelief.
He handed it to me, his voice trembling. "Dr. Beaumont, the results are in... the purity... it's unprecedented..."
My hands were shaking so badly I could barely tear open the seal. I took a deep breath and unfolded the thin sheet of paper.
At the bottom of the report, in the conclusion section, was a single line: "Bloodline match: 99.99%. Confirmed as direct White Wolf bloodline of the Beaumont Pack."
A roar filled my head, and my mind went blank. We found her. We really found her!
An overwhelming joy washed over me. I stumbled back against the wall, tears blurring my vision.
I immediately closed my eyes, focused my mind, and opened the highest-level family Mind-Link.
Montgomery! Brother! My voice was distorted with emotion in the link.
Almost instantly, my brother, the Alpha of the Beaumont Pack, responded with his steady, mountain-like voice. Harrison? What's wrong? Your emotions are unstable.
I could feel my nephews-Duncan, Caleb, Jordan-and even my parents in Europe sensing my intense emotional fluctuation and joining the link.
"I found her! I roared to the entire family channel. I found her! And I've seen her pups, a pair of twins!"
The Mind-Link fell silent for a heartbeat, then erupted in a tsunami of elation and shock.
My brother Montgomery's roar nearly shattered my psyche, a mix of joy, towering rage, and twenty years of pain.
"Where?!"
"St. Jude Hospital. She just gave birth, she's very weak, and... it seems she's been abandoned by her mate." I added.
I shared with everyone some information that I had found in advance about Anika's husband.
"That little mongrel from the Christian Pack! "My sister-in-law Francesca's voice, filled with murderous intent, cut through. Clearly, they had also been aware of the so-called "public rejection."
"Full mobilization! "Montgomery's voice carried the undeniable command of an Alpha." Caleb, Jordan, Duncan, you three, with me to the airport now! The private jet takes off in ten minutes! Francesca, you too!"
"Harrison! Montgomery turned to me. I command you as your Alpha, from this moment on, protect her and my grandchildren at all costs! Clear the entire floor, deploy top-level security! She is not to suffer another ounce of indignity before we arrive!"
"Yes, Alpha! "I responded immediately.
After cutting the link, I instantly regained the calm authority of a Healer. I turned to Dr. Roberts, who was standing by, completely stunned.
"Alan," my voice was cold and clear. "Clear the VVIP-A wing. All of it. Now. Mobilize all local Pack guards and lock down all entrances. No visitors are allowed, except for authorized medical personnel."
Dr. Roberts looked at me as if I were a god. He finally understood that he had just witnessed the return of a top Pack's lost heir.
"Yes... yes! I'll do it right away!" He practically scrambled away.
I straightened my white coat, wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes, and forced myself to calm my racing heart.
I pushed open Anika's door. She was looking at me with a mixture of fear and hope.
I walked to her bedside and managed a smile I hoped was gentle. "Miss Anika, we need to move you and the babies to a safer, more comfortable suite. Please allow me to help you."
