His Unwanted Omega's Defiant Second Chance

Author: Star Radovsky
Genre: Werewolf
I crashed my sister's lavish engagement party to expose the truth: she had stolen my fiancé, my parents, and my life. But instead of justice, I was met with a silver pistol aimed right at my heart. The man holding the gun was Leo, the Pack Gamma I had always viewed as a protective older brother. He didn't hesitate to pull the trigger to protect Cori's perfect facade. As the silver bullet burned through my chest, Cori knelt beside my dying body and whispered the final, agonizing truth. "You were never a Schneider. You were just an orphan my mother picked up to hide my existence." She even admitted to murdering my sickly younger brother just for entertainment. Floating as a spirit, I watched my "father" pat Leo on the shoulder, calling my murder a "necessary sacrifice." My "mother" comforted the smirking Cori. They calmly plotted to frame me as a lunatic and cover up my death. I had spent twenty years living in the attic, wearing hand-me-downs, and begging for a scrap of their love like a stray dog. Why did I let them blind me? Why did I let them take everything? A vortex swallowed my soul, fueled by a hatred so cold it could freeze stars. When I opened my eyes, I was gasping for air inside a burning car. The date on my phone showed it was exactly eight years ago. I kicked the mangled door open, my dormant wolf finally awakening. This time, I'm not here to beg for a family. I'm here to destroy it.

Chapter 1

Isabela POV:

"And now, presenting the crown jewel of Blackwood Creek-our radiant Miss Cori Schneider and her fiancé, the future Alpha of the Reynolds Pack, Caden Reynolds!"

The ballroom erupted. Crystal chandeliers trembled under a roar of rehearsed applause. Society matrons clutched their pearls, their eyes glassy with envy.

"What an immaculate match," a woman beside me breathed, wafting lavender perfume into the stale air. "An Omega that soft, pairing with an Alpha bloodline that lethal. The Schneiders have secured the northern ridge for three generations."

From the cavernous shadows beneath the marble mezzanine, I watched the tableau play out.

For twenty-eight years, I had watched this family build their empire on my suffering, knowing with sickening certainty that they would gladly step over my corpse to seal this alliance.

Cori wore virgin white. Silk faille, seed pearls, diamonds caught in her spun-gold curls. Beside her, Caden stood tall and predatory, his broad shoulders practically blocking the ambient light, his jaw razor-cut, his eyes dark with Alpha arrogance. When he brought her dainty knuckles to his lips, she blushed-a masterclass in submissive, trembling maidenhood.

At the high table sat my "parents." Alpha Greg Schneider puffed his chest, smelling of bourbon and unquestioned dominance. Beside him, Cathie, his Luna, dabbed a manicured finger beneath her mascara, weeping on cue.

Not once in twenty-eight years had they looked at me with that expression.

I smoothed down the fabric of my dress. It was pure, unadorned black. Wool crepe. No jewels. No shimmering tulle. I had not come dressed as a sister or an honored guest. I had dressed myself in mourning weeds for the family I was about to murder.

I stepped out of the dark.

The click of my single leather heel on the polished parquet sliced clean through the applause.

It was like throwing a bucket of ice water onto a blazing furnace. The band's cello squealed to an abrupt halt. Whispers skittered across the crowd like dry leaves before a storm.

"Wait... is that the other one?"

"The broken daughter? The one who can't even smell an Alpha's pheromone, let alone shift?"

"Why is she wearing black to an engagement gala? How grotesque."

On stage, Cori's angelic smile froze mid-frame. Her doe eyes widened, a microscopic sliver of feral panic flashing behind her tinted contact lenses before she expertly dissolved into wounded bewilderment. Her fingers knotted into the sleeve of Caden's tuxedo.

My father's head snapped toward me.

Instantly, the heavy, suffocating weight of an Alpha's Command slammed into my chest. Greg was releasing his dominance aura-an invisible hammer designed to break the knees of any insubordinate wolf in his territory. For years, that crushing psychic weight had forced me to choke in silence, dropping me to the floor in humiliated submission.

Down, the Alpha voice thundered silently through my skull. Kneel, you worthless cripple.

I didn't blink. I didn't break stride.

A soul that has already been pushed past the brink of endurance, stripped of every shred of dignity, does not bow to a small-town Alpha's parlor trick. I walked through his invisible wall of power like smoke through an iron grate.

Cathie turned ashen. Her wine goblet rattled against the china.

I stopped at the edge of the dais, looking up at the perfect couple.

Caden took half a step forward, putting his muscular frame between Cori and me, his eyes flaring with primal disgust. "You don't belong here, Isabela. Take your pathetic, unshifted stench out of this hall before I have the Enforcers drag you to the cells."

Cori laid a trembling hand on his bicep, her voice lilting and breathy. "Caden, please... she's my sister. Maybe... maybe she only came to offer her blessings."

I looked at Cori. Really looked at her.

A sharp, humorless laugh slipped past my lips-cold enough to frost the champagne flutes in the front row.

"Blessings?"

My voice wasn't loud, but the room was so petrified it echoed from the high ceiling rafters.

I tilted my head, letting my icy blue eyes bore straight through her painted veneer.

"My dear Cori," I said, each word dripping with venomous clarity. "You stole my surname. You stole my seat at that table. And now you're standing there wearing my fiancé's engagement band. Did you genuinely convince yourself I walked out of the shadows to offer you my blessing?"

The silence didn't just fall-it cratered.

Cori's knuckles went paper-white as the murmurs behind us turned into a riot of gasps.

Because beneath the stage, Brenda Reynolds-Caden's ruthless mother-suddenly stood up, her cold gaze locking onto the heirloom ring on Cori's finger.

Chapter 2

Isabela POV:

The heavy oak door of the private VIP lounge slammed shut with the force of an artillery blast.

Greg didn't wait for the latch to click. His massive, calloused hand clamped around the collar of my dress, shoving me toward the mahogany desk in the center of the room.

"Have you completely lost your goddamned mind?!" he bellowed, his vocal cords vibrating with an Alpha's unchecked fury.

The air in the room was poisoned with ozone and the stench of his raging beast. Outside, hundreds of elite guests were whispering about the Schneider bloodline, picking apart the scandal like vultures over fresh carrion.

On the velvet chaise, Cathie slumped like a broken doll, pressing a lace handkerchief to her eyes. "My reputation... twenty years of grooming this family's name, ruined in thirty seconds by an ungrateful, un-shiftable street rat!"

I straightened the twisted neckline of my dress, my spine rigid. I didn't tremble. I didn't weep. I stood in the dead center of the carpet, letting his Alpha aura wash over me like a tepid breeze.

"Ungrateful?" I asked, my voice smooth, chillingly devoid of emotion. "You raised me like a stray dog in your servant quarters, Cathie. Did you honestly expect me to lick your boots forever?"

"Shut your mouth!" Greg lunged forward, his brown eyes bleeding amber as his inner wolf strained against the surface. "We took you into the Alpha residence! We fed you! We clothed you while your own blood was unknown trash!"

"You clothed me in Cori's cast-offs," I countered, taking half a step toward him. "When she received couture for her seventeenth birthday, I was scrubbing the packhouse kennels with lye because you didn't want the Alpha Council to see an unshifted daughter."

Cathie's face turned from pale to an ugly, mottled crimson. "We hid you to protect you! You couldn't survive one week in a pack that values strength!"

"You hid me because you were ashamed! You treated me like a parasite while parading your golden child to secure political alliances!"

The words struck the room like physical blows.

Greg's fist came up, his arm trembling with the urge to snap my jaw. "You insolent little bitch-"

"Go ahead," I whispered, lifting my chin, offering the pale column of my throat to his strike. "Strike me, Greg. Strike me in front of the Reynolds heir. Show the world what kind of coward hides behind his Alpha title while bleeding his eldest daughter dry!"

Greg's hand stopped mid-air. For the first time in my existence, I saw pure, unadulterated terror flicker behind his eyes.

Before he could swing, the double doors burst open.

"Father, stop!"

Cori fell to her knees beside the door, tears cascading down her porcelain cheeks in artistic, agonizing perfection. Behind her loomed Caden, his jaw clamped shut, his shoulders tense with violence.

"Don't hurt her, Father," Cori sobbed, throwing her arms around Greg's legs. "She's just hurting... she's sick. It's my fault. I shouldn't have been born so blessed. Take it out on me!"

Greg's rage melted instantly into sick, nauseating paternal tenderness. He pulled Cori up against his broad chest, smoothing her hair. "Look at what she does, sweet girl. You are an angel, and she is a demon sent to torment us."

From behind them, Caden stepped forward. He bypassed the weeping family, his tall shadow swallowing me whole.

His eyes were full of lethal, absolute disgust.

"You're a disgusting, deformed parasite, Isabela," Caden sneered, reaching into his tailored pocket and pulling out the Schneider family crest signet ring. "You think you had an engagement contract with me? I wouldn't mate you if you were the last breathing female on this continent."

Chapter 3

Isabela POV:

Caden loomed over me, confident in the sheer, suffocating superiority of an Alpha bloodline.

"You think a few cheap words on a stage will alter reality?" he whispered, his hot, mint-scented breath brushing my temple. "Look at you. No scent. No claws. You don't even have a wolf crying in your head. You're an empty biological husk. Cori is warmth, purity, and light. You? You are an embarrassment to the very concept of our species."

Behind him, Greg nodded in grim satisfaction, arms crossed over his chest. Cathie was watching with a cruel smirk tucked into her handkerchief.

They expected the old Isabela. The Isabela who would crumble, drop her head, bite her lip until it bled, and whisper: I'm sorry, Alpha.

Instead, I looked up through my blonde bangs, and I began to laugh.

It was not a soft giggle. It was a low, melodic, terrifying sound that seemed to pull all the oxygen out of the private salon.

Caden's brow twitched. A flash of predatory unease darted across his pupils. "What the hell are you laughing at?"

"I'm laughing at how blind you are, little Alpha," I whispered.

Before the final syllable faded, my muscles fired.

Years of scraping for survival in the shadows-years of enduring brutal beatings in silence and secretly hardening every muscle in the dead of night just to protect my sick brother-exploded through my limbs.

I didn't lunge like a berserker. I ducked beneath his reach with liquid precision, stepped inside his guard, and drove the point of my heel directly into his instep while slamming my palm into his solar plexus.

Caden gasped, his diaphragm seizing.

Before he could register the shock, I caught the back of his neck with both hands and brought my knee upward with the full, unbridled torque of my hips, driving it straight between his thighs.

CRACK.

A strangled, wet shriek scraped out of Caden's throat.

His eyes rolled back. His knees turned to water. The towering Alpha heir folded in half like a cheap deck chair, collapsing onto the plush carpet with his face buried in the rug, wheezing and clutching his groin in blinding agony.

The room fell dead.

Cori's jaw dropped so wide her lip gloss tore. Cathie let out a squeak like a stepped-on mouse.

I wiped an imaginary speck of dust from my shoulder, stepped casually over Caden's twitching body, and looked Greg dead in the eye.

"You were saying, Father?"

Greg let out an ungodly roar. "You dead bitch!"

The Alpha shifted partially-his hands extending into dark brown claws, thick fur erupting along his forearms as he swung a haymaker designed to decapitate me against the plaster wall.

I didn't duck.

I raised my right arm, caught his wrist right at the joint, and diverted the momentum down into the oak side table.

BANG. The solid wood splintered into kindling.

Greg tried to wrench his arm back, but my fingers locked around his radial artery like a vise forged from steel. His eyes widened into white saucers.

How? the question screamed in his gaze. How can an unshifted Omega restrain an Alpha's claw?

"You spent twenty years thinking I was harmless because my wolf hadn't spoken," I whispered into his ear, twisting his forearm until his joint groaned with agony. "You should have prayed she never did."

I released him with a violent shove, sending the great Alpha of the Schneider Pack crashing back into his wife's vanity table.

Before anyone could draw breath, the outer doors were violently kicked open, and five armed Pack Enforcers poured into the room, their silver-tipped assault carbines pointed directly at my chest.
