living him the agony she does not want to bear all her life, yet she can find no other place to hide from the brutalities that he very confidently calls "LOVE". The 12-hour drive 5 years ago from San Francisco had made her believe that she was invisible to the world but her encounter with HIM today made her realize how fragile a woman is in front of a man who is so great in power and uses it for his personal gains.

Her life as a free bird was over. How did this happen? The worst nightmare was yet to unveil in her life, and she should be ready to embrace it either with fear or open arms.

She hurried her way to her room in search of her phone. With her trembling hands, she called Diana and wished for her to receive her call right away. The ringing tone was making her more frantic but to her dismay, Diana did not receive her call. At this moment, Sylvia wanted nothing more but freedom. She took a deep breath and dialed Ramsey and the call was instantly answered.

"Sylvia, when did you leave the party? I looked everywhere for you. Where have you been?."

"Ramsey can you please pick me up from my apartment right now?" she said in a hoarse voice. Being with her for almost 4 years now, Ramsey was able to recognize the worry in her voice and agreed instantly. After 20 minutes, he arrived at her apartment. He knocked on the door but heard no sound. "Sylvia, I'm here. Ramsey. Open the door.". The door was opened in a blink. She quickly let him in and locked the door before anyone could see her.

Ramsey was shocked to look at her haggard face and reddened eyes. Every tear that rolled down her eyes looked like a sparkling jewel under the moonlight that was coming from the long floor-to-ceiling glass window. Although she seemed exhausted, but it only took her a minute to open up a luggage bag to put a few of her clothes, toiletries, and a file filled with important papers. She signaled him to leave and talk on their way out. Just as Ramsey opened the door, a tall dark-skinned figure appeared in front and thundered him with a punch. He was taken aback with shock and fury in his eyes.

Sylvia took a few steps back with her trembling feet while eventually running back to lock herself in the bedroom. To her surprise, the tall man held the door tight pushing it so hard that Sylvia fell on the ground. Ramsey was looking at the scene in sheer horror not knowing what was happening and why. In this very moment, Ramsey was thinking to himself if he ever knew who Sylvia's past. he ha

A tall, muscular, broad-shouldered man with light blue eyes in his late thirties, dressed in an expensive black suit with white crisp shirt stood beside Sylvia. If it was not for her scary past, Sylvia could have fallen for this man at first sight. How can a ruthless man be so handsome yet so domineering?

He looked down to Sylvia with a cunning smile on his face and said, "Did you not know me? Anything that I get my eyes on, can never live beyond my reach. Was it so difficult for you to understand, dear WIFE?."

Chapter 2 My Dear Wife

The silence in the room was bone chilling and one could only hear sobs of Sylvia. Ramsey's eyes bulged out at the mere announcement the handsome man made. This meant that Sylvia was married to this man. Ramsey felt as if he was stabbed in the back.

He recalled those beautiful moments he had spent with Sylvia. He had promised himself that one day he will marry Sylvia. It was once when he took Sylvia out shopping and saw her looking at a diamond ring in a jewelry store. "I can get it for our marriage proposal if you like it so," he teased.

"And what if I say NO? would you still buy me that ring Mr. Romeo?". "huh. You take my love for granted Sylvia. When I'm no longer by your side, you'll miss me," Ramsey said lowly.

"No wonder you're so dramatic. Let's please get something to eat. I'm starving.."

Ramsey was taken aback by his deep thought by a huge slap on his face. He was startled and realized that the man was standing above him.

The handsome man settled himself in the chair nearby. He said in a calm tone, "I'm a man of my word. I once promised my wife to kill every man that ever eyed her. You, Mr. Albert was in fact dreaming to marry her. Please enlighten me on the treatment I should offer at your service." Cold sweat dripped down Ramsey's back, but he managed to speak a little nervously.

"Who are you?". As soon as the words came out of his mouth, the handsome man grabbed him by his hair and dragged him to the nearest floor-to-ceiling window smashing his face into it.

The blood oozed out his head making its way through his face and soon Ramsey was drenched in the pool of blood. Although he could feel the throbbing pain in the head, he still struggled to get up and said, "beat me all you want but let Sylvia go. I'm willing to give my life for the sake of her survival."

The man got furious and took out his gun when Sylvia blocked his view and got to her knees. "No, please... I beg you don't kill him."

The man held her from the waist and pressed her hard against the wall. Sylvia winced and pleaded to stop. The man pressed her even harder so that he could hear her heart thumping really fast.

He glanced at look over her from head-to-toe, "I haven't touched a woman in years. How should I react after seeing my wife after 5 fucking years? Do you wish to satisfy my need tonight, Sylvia?" He said with a smirk on his face.

Sylvia got panicked and felt uneasy. She couldn't fathom the torture she'd go through again, once she had escaped from.

"I.. aa..", Sylvia stuttered not knowing what to say. Her heart was pounding. She glanced up at him to plead. His eyes were glued to her plump pink lips from constant crying. His seductively attentive aura was scarier than his word.

She had seen a similar aura emanating from him when she had first felt his presence near her. Back then she was a naïve, young, 22-year-old undergrad student at the San Francisco State University about to complete her graduation.

She felt drowsiness take over her senses since the more she dwelled on her past the scarier her present situation seemed. In a blink, Sylvia fainted in his arms.

The man held Sylvia in his arms and ordered his bodyguard James to take Ramsey hostage and beat the shit out of him until his men are asked to stop.

Ramsey's face went extremely pale as he thought about the instructions.

The handsome man left with unconscious Sylvia in his Audi Q7.

Chapter 3 In the past

"Mom, I'm getting late, Lara will be here any minute." Sylvia was getting late for her class. This was her last year at the university. She had been acing her studies since the beginning. She was the topper of her class and assisted her Marketing Professor.

Although it was not her first day at the university. Catherine had a habit of buying a new dress every first day of the university throughout her graduation. However, Catherine was unable to find the one she had bought.

"Darling, can you not wait a few more minutes? I'm looking for it in my closet. Why don't you check your closet, I might have kept it there?" For a moment, Sylvia hesitated, "Mom, it's okay to not follow your favorite tradition once in a blue moon." Sylvia kissed her mom and retrieved her mustard crossbody bag from her room, ready to leave.

"Okay Okay. But take this coat with you, I'll look great with that turquoise top, trust me."

Meanwhile, Lara rang the bell. She quickly grabbed the coat and ran towards the door. "Hi, best friend. Hey Aunt Catherine. Sylvia told me you were leaving for Calistoga tonight. I hope you remember my birthday then." Lara giggled.

Catherine laughed. "Don't worry sweetheart. I'll get you the best wine from there on your birthday. I'm going to spend some time with Sylvia's grandma there.

"Enjoy your visit Aunt. And don't worry about Sylvia, I'll get her to live at my apartment most of the time so she's not alone here."

"Lara it's already ten past 8. We need to hurry, or we'll miss the class."

Sylvia kissed her mom goodbye and promised to be back before her flight at the night.

Sylvia was the only daughter of Catherine and Garry. She was born after 10 years of their marriage and hence had grown up being pampered a lot. Before her father's sudden demise, the small family used to live with Garry's parents in Grey's villa. But after Garry died due to the car accident, Catherine could not live there anymore. Garry's brother Michael had attempted on Catherine at least thrice after she was widowed.

So, she moved to the apartment that Garry gifted her on their 25th anniversary. Ever since they shifted, nobody from the Grey family contacted Catherine or Sylvia.

After around 40 minutes, Lara parked her car in the student parking plot of the university.

Jamie was waiting for them in the corridor of the 1st floor. "Jamie, I missed you!". Sylvia gave him a quick hug. Sylvia and Jamie knew each other from college and had fallen in love. Their love life had no thorns while their friends called it as smooth as butter.

He grinned looking at Sylvia, "I'll drive you home tonight. This way I'll be able to say goodbye to mom." Sylvia's eyes twinkled and nodded with a smile.

"Let's get going you two love birds." Lara teased.

Sylvia had to attend a conference with her professor in the meeting room at 2 in noon about the latest research she was assisting him with. It was about the newest ways of marketing through revamping the old-school guerilla marketing techniques.

The time went by so quickly; it was almost time for the conference. It was a tiring day for Sylvia. She went to the restroom for a minor touch-up as she was about to face the country's wealthiest business tycoons at the conference.

Sylvia was petite but had an erect figure. Her blue eyes were as bright as sapphire with long thick lashes making her look oddly vulnerable. Her unfathomable beautiful eyes complemented her fair-toned skin.

She put a peachish pink lip color and combed her long brown hair. She gave a final glance at herself in the mirror before leaving for the conference.

The elevator door to the conference room opened. She took a deep breath and squared her shoulder walking towards the door. After entering the room, she kept her laptop and sat on the black leather chair. The board that was to attend the conference consisted of 8 biggest business tycoons from the utility industry of California.

Soon, the conference began.
