I have been seeing this girl around, walking on her own, and barely talking to people. I got curious, I wanted to know her more but hadn't had the chance to talk to her.
Surprisingly, I saw her in my school, Queens High College. She was heading to the administration block, and as I was going after her, the bell rang. It was time for class.
"Shit" I cursed. I've missed another opportunity to get to know this girl". I hope I get another chance". I thought.
After Miss Natasha's biology class, she walked in. It seems as though we'll be having the next class together.
Fortunately for me, she sat behind me. I wasn't able to contain my excitement, so I turned to talk to her.
Feeling a bit shy, I said, "Hi, I'm Ella Jefferson. I've been seeing you around my place. Are you new here?"
She smiled and gave a friendly nod. Then she stretched out her hand for a handshake. "Nice to meet you, Ella. I'm Khloe and I'm new here".
Khloe leaned in and whispered, "My parents are wolves too, and we're part of the 'Blood Moon pack.'"
My eyes gleamed with excitement. "That's cool! My dad's a warrior, and my mom's a nurse. We live in the 'Blood Moon pack' too."
Khloe grinned. "Wow! Nice to meet you, Ella. Wanna be friends?"
I smiled back. "Sure!" We hugged.and started talking about school till our English teacher Mr Nelson came in.
After school, I and Khloe walked back to the pack house together, talking and laughing about everything.
As we got close to our pack house, we made plans to meet up later in the day.
hesitating for a moment before asking, "Khloe, can I visit you?"
Khloe smiled and replied, "Of course, Ella! You're always welcome at my house."
It was amazing how quickly we bonded. It felt as though we had known each other for years.
"Alright, Khloe. See you soon,"I said with a warm smile.
"Yeah, see you soon," Khloe replied, returning the smile as we hugged ourselves.
"Bye," I waved at her as we parted ways to our respective houses.
I was happy that I had finally found a friend who understood me, someone who was just like me.
"Mummy.... Mum Mummy.
I called out to my mum feeling excited. while having my lunch.
"Yes darling, what's the problem?" My mum asked
Sounding curious.
"Mummy.... I made a new friend today, " and she's also a member of our pack.
"That's so nice, how did it happen?" She inquired,
knowing fully well that I hardly make friends.
"Hmm, I exclaimed.
"I had been seeing her around the pack, and she seemed lonely. Coincidentally, we ended up in the same class, and it turned out that her family had just moved here," I explained to my mum.
My mother, concerned for my well-being, asked, "Do you trust her?"
I thought for a moment before replying, "I think I can trust her, Mum. She seems like a very nice girl."
My mum advised, "Just be careful, Ella. Get to know her well before you open up completely. People can be deceiving, so my baby, please be cautious, okay?"
I nodded, understanding her point of view.
"Mum, please, I want to go over to her place later this evening," I pleaded, giving her the best puppy-dog eyes I could remember.
My mother hesitated for a moment, then firmly said, "No."
I continued to plead, "Mummy, please!"
She hesitated, "Okay, you can go" but not without a condition, "You must be back before 6 p.m."
"Okay, ma," I agreed enthusiastically.
I quickly finished my meal and did the dishes. By the time I had finished, my mum was already in her room trying to rest before her night shift, which was why she wanted me home by 6 p.m.
As I prepared to leave, I popped her head into mum's room.
"Mummy, I'm leaving, I'll be back before 6". I said. With sleepy eyes, she replied, "Okay, baby. Take care and be careful."
"Love you mummy!" I shouted.
"Love you too baby" she replied.
Closing the door behind me and leaving my house for Khloe's house. The moment I was close to her place, I became nervous. I didn't know what to expect.
Knock! Knock!
A soft, gentle female voice answered from inside, "Yes? Who's at the door?"
Nervously I replied, "It's Ella, Khloe's new friend and classmate,"
The next sound I heard was footsteps drawing nearer to the door, and as it opened, I was welcomed by an elderly woman in her late 30s with black hair.
The woman looked at me with suspicion and asked, "Yes? Who did you say you are?"
"Good afternoon, ma," I greeted, feeling a little scared. "I'm looking for Khloe. I'm her new friend."
The woman asked further, "What's your name again?"
Before I could answer, Khloe's voice called out from inside the house, and she hurriedly came to the door.
"Mama, this is Ella, my friend! She's the one I told you about in the kitchen that was supposed to come."
Her face softened, confirming from her daughter. "Oh, I see. I was too busy making food that I forgot. Welcome to our house, Ella," she warmly welcomed me into their home.
Turning to Khloe, she suggested, "Khloe, why not take your friend to your room? She might be more comfortable there. She seems a bit nervous in the living room."
Once we got inside Khloe's room, she offered me a snack and a soda drink. We both sat on her bed and began talking about different issues, including their families and even boys.
Khloe threw a surprising question my way, "Do you have a boyfriend?"
"No, I don't," I replied. "I have to wait until I'm 18 years old to meet my mate," I said Making a disgusting face.
Khloe burst into laughter. "It's not that bad, Ella. Mates are good for those who believe in them," she reassured. "You know," she continued, "my mother is my father's second wife. His true mate had died giving birth to his child. My father was happy and sad at the same time."
I couldn't contain my curiosity so Interrupted, "Why? What happened between your dad and his mate?"
Grinning, "Well, he was never happy with his mate. He was happy that he was finally free, but was also sad because he lost his blood as well."
"My mother is not his mate, but he's so happy with her and they're in Love with each other, "You see, I want to be happy with someone I love, just like my dad. I'll choose my man, and not the other way around." she expressed.
I smiled, "Well, my dad and mum are mates and they love each other so much, their love inspires me every day and I will wait for my mate".
Rolling her eyes, Khloe playfully says. "Okay, ma'am,"
"Now, let's go play some games outside"
"Now, let's go play some games outside!" I exclaimed.
"Ye!" I responded, excited. So we both headed outside, ready to explore some outdoor games.
"I've changed my mind, let's go swimming". Khloe suggested.
"Khloe?! I shouted. Swimming? "You can't be serious," I let out widening my eyes.
"Since swimming will be difficult to do," Khloe began, "I'll mention five games, and you can choose two from them. Deal?"
I nodded my head playfully and said, "Okay, list them already!" hurrying her up.
Khloe then listed all the games.
First, we can play a game of Wolf Tag. It's like a regular tag, but we'll pretend to be in our wolf form chasing each other."
Next, we can do a Hide and Seek, but in the woods.
Or... "Racing through the pack? We'll see who's the fastest."
"I'm not competing Khloe" I interjected.
Haha!!.. She laughed. No!! We're not competing, it's just for fun". She assured me,
"Alright, " I agreed, raising my hands. Encouraging her to continue,
"We can also try Stump Jumping, where we jump from one tree branch to another.
"What kind of game is that, Khloe? I couldn't help but ask.
"I used to play these games with my friends in my old pack, It's all about balance and it's fun". She explained.
I responded excitedly, "It sounds fun, though and I'd like to try it".
"Cool, my mum warned me against it so if you want to try it, we'll have to be careful". Khloe said, cautioning me.
"Okay," I agreed.
And lastly, A Scavenger Hunt. We'll make lists of things to find and see who's the best at spotting them."
Jezz, Khloe!! I exclaim, "What sorts of weird games are these? I don't know if I will be able to play these games."
Khloe playfully retorted, "Yes, you'll play, Don't joke with me, girl".
And lastly, "a Scavenger Hunt. We'll make lists of things to find and see who's the best at spotting them." Khloe concluded.
"Are you done?" I asked. Khloe nodded and replied, "Yes, now make your choice."
I looked up, my finger on my cheek contemplating the best game to go for. Finally, I made my decision, saying, "Hm... I choose scavenger hunting and stump jumping; they seem like a lot of fun."
Khloe agreed, "Great, let's first go with a scavenger hunt. We'll be looking for white stones, shells, cowries, and bird feathers. These things are common here, and we'll each pick five of the items."
I playfully responded, "Yes, commander," which made Khloe laugh. So we began our ultimate search, running and searching with excitement.
As I approached Ms. Katie's house, my mom's best friend, I saw her in the open kitchen baking muffins. "Ms. Katie!" I called out, and she immediately turned to look at me.
Ella, "Did you come to check on me? How are you doing?"
I laughed, explaining, "No, Ms. Katie, I'll come to visit you soon, but i and my friend are playing a game. I smelled the aroma of your muffins, and I came."
Ms. Katie responded, "I see. Since you didn't come to visit me, you can go and continue your game."
"Ms. Katie, I'm here now. Can't you offer me a muffin?" I said grinning trying to convince her to give me some.
Ms. Katie hesitated, looked at me playfully, and said "No! You aren't having my muffin. Whenever you remember to visit, I'll make another special one for you."
So I acted as if she were okay with Ms. Katie's decision, took a few steps towards the exit door, and, as Ms. Katie turned back to her baking, I swiftly grabbed one muffin and ran out, laughing. "Sorry, Ms. Katie!"
She shouted "Naughty girl," as I ran away laughing.
As we searched through our pack gardens, using our feet to shift the fallen leaves. This game is funny and weird. I glanced at Khloe and asked, "Do you often play these games with your friends in your old pack?"
Khloe, while carefully checking the ground for shells, replied, "Yeah, we did. These games were like our secret rituals. We'd challenge each other, laugh, and sometimes even compete."
I smiled, "Nice, it sounds like a lot of fun, and I'm glad we're doing this together now."
Khloe nodded, "Me too, Ella. It's even more special with a new friend." she said, sounding excited.
So we continued our search, discussing and laughing. I spotted a cowrie and shell partially buried in the mud. Out of excitement, I shouted, "Look, Khloe! I found a cowrie!"
Khloe rushed over "Great find! You're really getting the game."
I grinned, "Thanks, I'm starting to feel like a real scavenger hunt champion."
Khloe got all her items on the list, but I got just three items which made Khloe the winner.
Khloe glanced at me. Look, Ella, I got all the items. "I am your scavenge Hunter champion baby". She happily says jumping up.
"Yes, you're Khloe. Congratulations". I said.
As the sun began to go down, Ella. Khloe calls, "We have one more game left, are you ready?"
I hesitated for a moment, looking at the tall trees and their branches, Khloe had taken us to the woods. Then, I nodded, saying, "I'm ready, Khloe. Let's do this!"
We decided to continue with the next game stump jumping.
So, we both headed to the line of trees Khloe had chosen for their stump jumping game. The trees were tall and had large and strong branches.
Khloe took the lead, "Watch and learn, Ella," she called out, proudly.. She jumped from one branch to another as if it was that simple.
I carefully watched how Khloe was jumping without any difficulties, So I took a deep breath. "You've got this, Ella!" I heard Khloe's voice cheering me on.
With that, I took my first leap. My heart jumped as I landed on a branch, swinging slightly before finding my footing. Khloe clapped her hands "It was awesome, Ella!"
I continued, jumping "Woah! It's so much fun!! I screamed.
After a few more jumps, Khloe, let's go back to the pack".
We were laughing, and cheering at each other as we leaped from one branch to another.
Suddenly, Khloe jumped, she lost her base and fell to the ground.
"Khloe! I screamed as I saw her friend fall. "Khloe, are you alright?" I rushed to Khloe's side, panicking. "Please, don't pass out on me."
She groaned in pain but managed to stay conscious. And held her arm, wincing.
"I think I hurt my arm, Ella," Khloe complains
Seeing Khloe's pain, I knew I had to act fast. So I helped her sit up, "Hold on, Khloe. I'll go get help."
I ran back to Khloe's house, catching my breath while I knocked on the door urgently.
Khloe's mother answered, "Yes, who's that? I didn't answer as I was still gasping for breath. So, she opened it. Her face changed, she was shocked to see me with a distressed expression.
"Where's my daughter? Why do you look like this, and why are you out of breath?" She was asking too many questions at a time.
Tears streamed down from my face as I pointed towards the forest. struggling to find my words.
Khloe's mother looked very worried and concerned, hurriedly followed my hand direction, and headed to the woods, walking as fast as her legs could carry.
There, she found Khloe, injured and in pain.
"What happened?" Khloe's mother demanded, her voice a bit harsh.
I managed to explain, my voice trembling with fear, "We... We were stump jumping when she fell." I stammered.
Khloe's mother sighed, looking frustrated. "Who came up with this dangerous idea?"
"Khloe suggested it," i replied quickly, "I didn't want her to see me as a bad influence in her daughter's life.
She shook her head, "I've warned her about these risky games. Alright, let's get her to the hospital."
So, she rushed back to the pack, brought her car to the woods, and with my help, we carefully carried Khloe to the car.
She started the engine and sped off towards the hospital.
When we arrived at the hospital, Khloe was rushed Khloe into the emergency room. The medical staff immediately sprang into action, assessing her injuries and taking notes of broken bones.
I was walking up and down nervously in the waiting area, I was scared, and seeing her in such pain, broke my heart.
I blamed myself for agreeing to play such a dangerous game. "What if it was something worse?
After what felt like an eternity, a doctor finally came out from the ER. I rushed to him,
"Is she going to be okay, Doctor?" my eyes pleading with the doctor for good news.
"She's going to be fine. Khloe has a fractured arm, but it's not a severe break. We'll set the bone and put her in a cast. She should heal well." she said with a reassuring smile.
I breathed a sigh of relief, my shoulders relaxing. "Thank goodness."
Khloe's mother squeezed my hands as a sign of relief. "Thank you, Doctor. When can we see her?"
The doctor smiled. "You can see her shortly. We'll just finish up the procedure, and then you can visit her in her room."
As we waited, I turned to Khloe's mother with teary eyes. "I'm so sorry, Mrs. Brown. It was my fault your daughter was injured, I shouldn't have allowed it when she suggested playing the game. I never thought something like this would happen.``
Khloe's mother put a comforting hand on my shoulder. "It's not your fault, dear. Khloe is adventurous, she loves these games. And she plays it quite often with her old friends in our former pack. We just have to remind her to be more careful in the future."
I nodded, grateful for her understanding. "I'll definitely remind her. I don't want anything like this to happen again."
When we finally got to visit Khloe in her hospital room, I couldn't hide how relieved I was. Khloe was lying in bed with her arm in a cast, looking tired but smiling. So I walked over to her, carefully caressing her cheeks.
Khloe grinned weakly. "Hey, Ella. Sorry about the game. I guess I got carried away."
I smiled back, tears rolling down from my eyes. "It's okay, Khloe. We'll have plenty of games in the future, but let's promise to be safer next time."
Khloe nodded, "Deal."
While Khloe was still recovering in the hospital, I had to go to school all alone. I missed her dearly, even though we had only met recently. Khloe had brought so much happiness into my life.
As I went to school that day, my thoughts were on Khloe. "I miss you, Khloe," I quietly murmured to myself. "Even though we've just met, you've made me so happy."
After my classes, I decided to pay Khloe a visit at her house. It had been around four days since I had last seen her, and I wanted to check on her and chat about school, games, and her health in general.
As I made my way out of our school gate, a group of boys started calling me.
"Hey, beautiful, stop," the first boy, dressed in green sweatpants, called out.
Startled, I stopped and looked at the group of boys. They're known for their wayward behavior, I couldn't help but fear for my safety.
"I said, come here," another boy demanded, taking a step toward me. Their eyes were dangerously looking at me, and it was clear they meant trouble.
My heart was beating fast, and I clutched my bag tightly.
"Go close to her, and you'll regret it," a deep, authoritative voice suddenly interrupted. I turned to see a tall boy with curly brown and bright Hazel eyes, standing behind me, his arms folded across his chest.
"What will you do, huh?" one of the bad boys challenged, feeling proud he said. "If I were you, I wouldn't want to find out."
I stood still shaking, wondering what would happen and what kind he was.
The tall, brown-skinned boy stepped closer, locking eyes with the lead troublemaker. "You should take my advice. Walk away now."
The leader hesitated for a moment, looking at the boy from head to toe. Then he exchanged uneasy glances with his other friends. Obviously, he didn't want to risk it.
After tense glances, they finally muttered some curses "F**k you".. and fled, running back from where they came out from.
I let out a shaky breath, her heart still racing. She turned to thank my unexpected saviour, my eyes meeting his.
"Thank you," I said, feeling grateful.
The mysterious boy nodded, his face unreadable. "You should be more careful, especially when walking alone."
I blinked in surprise. "Please who are you?"
He smiled faintly. "Let's just say I keep an eye on things around here. Now, go home. But remember, stay safe."
As soon as he finished, he turned and walked away, leaving me wondering what he is.
