His Second Life Begins

Author: : Mattie Valelly
Genre: Xuanhuan
My soul floated above the cold asphalt, watching my own naked body lying lifelessly on the street. I was 30, a successful architect, but all I heard were whispers of judgment-that I' d thrown my life away for Olivia. Everyone knew she never loved me, that she was always with Daniel. To die like this, discarded and forgotten, was nothing short of a pathetic waste. Then, a strange, swirling pain, and I woke up not dead, but screaming, my left hand wrapped in a bloody rag. A finger was freshly severed. Before me, tied to a chair, was Daniel. And holding a bloody knife, cold and impatient, stood Olivia. My mind reeled: this was ten years ago, the very day my life began its downward spiral. The kidnapping, the torture, the moment Olivia chose Daniel over me, leaving me for dead. The memory of my actual death, the whispers of strangers judging my wasted life, burned clearer than any past pain. I watched her look at Daniel, her choice already made in her eyes, just like before. I was nothing to her. I had always been nothing. The desperate love, the years of pining-it all turned to ashes. Why was I back? Why was I forced to relive this cruel charade, knowing the tragic end it led to? The injustice, the utter pointlessness of my devotion, fueled a cold, hard fury I' d never known. This time, something inside me snapped. This time, I wouldn' t beg. This time, I' d escape. I' d use every shred of memory I had from the future I' d just left, every bitter lesson learned, to break free and forge a life entirely my own, a life where Olivia had no place.

Chapter 1

Liam' s soul floated above the cold, wet asphalt. Below, his body lay naked and still. He was 30, a successful architect, but none of that mattered now. The streetlights cast a harsh, yellow glow on his pale skin, and the light rain did little to wash away the grime of the city street. No one had come to claim him.

Whispers drifted up from the small crowd that had gathered.

"That' s Liam, isn' t it? The architect?"

"Heard he threw his life away for that woman, Olivia."

"She never loved him, everyone knew it. She was always with Daniel."

"What a waste. To end up like this, on the street."

The words were just noise. Liam felt nothing, no anger, no sadness. It was just a fact, the final sentence in a story he no longer had to live. He had loved Olivia with an obsession that consumed him, and she had chosen Daniel. He had died for it.

Then, a figure cut through the crowd. She was tall and slender, moving with a quiet confidence. Liam didn't recognize her at first. She knelt beside his body, her face unreadable in the dim light. She pulled a colorful silk scarf from her bag and gently draped it over his exposed form.

"You were too stubborn," she murmured, her voice soft but clear. "I hope in your next life, you learn to let go."

Her name was Stella. He remembered her now, a fleeting acquaintance from a world away. He' d never paid her much attention.

Her words seemed to pull at him, a strange force tugging at his consciousness. The world dissolved into a swirling vortex of color and pain.

He woke up with a scream trapped in his throat.

The first thing he felt was excruciating pain in his left hand. He looked down and saw it wrapped in a bloody rag. A finger was gone, freshly severed. The coppery smell of blood filled the air.

He wasn't on the street. He was in a damp, concrete room, tied to a chair. Across from him, also tied up, was Daniel. His face was bruised, but his eyes held a familiar, arrogant spark.

And standing before them, holding a bloody knife, was Olivia.

Her expression was cold, impatient. She looked from Liam to Daniel, her gaze lingering on Daniel with a flicker of concern.

"Who will talk first?" she asked, her voice devoid of emotion.

Liam' s mind reeled. This wasn' t a dream. This was ten years ago. This was the moment his life began its downward spiral. The kidnapping, the torture, the moment Olivia had to choose. He remembered this day with perfect, horrifying clarity. He had begged her to save him, had sworn his undying loyalty.

And she had chosen Daniel. She had walked away with Daniel, leaving Liam to his fate, only for him to be rescued by his family' s connections later, broken and humiliated.

This time, seeing the scene replay exactly as it had before, something inside him snapped. The desperate love, the years of pining, it all turned to ash. He saw her look at Daniel, her choice already made in her eyes, just like before. He was nothing to her. He had always been nothing.

Chapter 2

Olivia' s men untied him, their movements rough and impersonal. They dragged him out of the damp room and into a sterile, white hallway. Daniel was taken in the opposite direction, with a gentleness that made Liam' s stomach turn. He was being led to a different room, a place for questioning, he assumed. He had been through this before. He knew what came next.

But this time, he wasn't the same broken man. He had the memory of his own death, the cold finality of the street, the whispers of strangers. That gave him a clarity he never had before.

One of the guards shoved him forward. "Keep moving."

Liam stumbled but caught himself. He looked at the man, his eyes cold. "You touch me again, and you' ll regret it."

The guard laughed, a short, ugly sound. "You' re in no position to make threats."

"My wife is Jessica Crawford," Liam said, his voice steady. He pulled the name from a deep recess of his memory. Jessica Crawford, the heir to a vast corporate empire, a woman known for her ruthless efficiency and powerful connections. In his past life, he only knew of her by reputation. Now, she was his only way out. "If a single hair on my head is out of place when she finds me, she will burn this entire organization to the ground. And she will start with you."

The guard' s laughter died in his throat. The other man froze. They exchanged a nervous glance. The name Jessica Crawford carried weight, a weight far heavier than Olivia' s regional influence.

"He' s bluffing," the first guard said, but his voice lacked conviction.

"Are you willing to bet your life on that?" Liam asked softly. He held their gaze, his expression unyielding. "Let me make a phone call. Let me call my brother, Ben. He can connect me to her. You can listen to the whole conversation. Then you can decide if I' m bluffing."

The guards hesitated, clearly out of their depth. Finally, one of them nodded and pulled out a phone. He dialed the number Liam gave him.

Ben picked up on the second ring, his voice frantic with worry. "Liam? Are you okay? Where are you?"

"I' m fine, Ben," Liam said, keeping his tone calm. "Listen to me very carefully. Things are a little complicated. I need you to get in touch with Jessica Crawford. Tell her I' m with Olivia. Tell her I' m invoking our agreement." He paused, letting the words sink in for the guards. "Tell her... tell my wife to come get me."

There was a stunned silence on the other end of the line. "Wife? Jessica Crawford? Liam, what the hell are you talking about?"

"Just do it, Ben. Please."

He hung up. The guards looked at him with a new kind of fear. The bluff had worked. They led him to a clean, comfortable room and left him alone, locking the door behind them. He was safe, for now.

Hours later, he was moved to a small apartment within Olivia' s compound. His hand had been properly bandaged by a doctor who said nothing. As he sat on the edge of the bed, the pain a dull throb, he heard voices from the next room. Olivia' s room.

It was Daniel' s voice, smooth and persuasive. "You see, Olivia? He planned the whole thing. He got himself 'captured' just to make me look bad. He' s always been manipulative like that, trying to drive a wedge between us."

Then, Olivia' s reply, laced with weary affection. "I know, Daniel. Don' t worry. I' ll deal with him. He won' t bother you again."

A cold, hard fury rose in Liam' s chest. It was a clean anger, unburdened by the desperate love he used to feel. It was the anger of a man who had been utterly wronged. He stood up, the pain in his hand forgotten. He had to see their faces. He had to make them understand.

He walked out of his room and into hers. They were standing close, Daniel' s arm around her waist. They looked up, surprised to see him.

Without a word, Liam walked straight up to Daniel and kicked him hard in the stomach.

Daniel doubled over, gasping for air.

"Liam!" Olivia shrieked, rushing to Daniel' s side.
