His Rejected Wife

The sun peaked right up in the sky giving the morning a youthful exuberance, the streets were crowded with people going about their daily lives hoping to have a fruitful day.

In a beautiful green house situated in brooks street, a young lady was seated in front of a mirror combing through her hair when her mother walked in.

"Hi mom" Selene, the beautiful young lady with blue eyes, thick lashes, long black hair and a perfect body turned to her.

"How are you doing Selene" Mary asked taking the comb from her and brushing through her hair.

"I'm fine" she answered.

Mary stared at her beautiful child through the mirror who had always been a sourced her happiness,

"You know I have always been grateful for the moment you came into my life my dear child, you brought so much joy to me and your father that we couldn't wish for anything more" Mary expressed with a face full of joy.

"What is it Mom?" Selene could read through her expression that she had something to say to her and that was why she was sweet talking her, she was already used to her pattern.

"Okay fine you got me" Mary said and dragged a seat closer to her.

"You have been together with Dante for four years now, don't you think it is time for you two to tie the knot. Dante may be slow about it but you aren't, you can't let him sleep away from you" Mary stated holding her hand.

It had been a dream of hers to have her daughter married off to a rich man and Dante, her current boyfriend was the perfect match.

He was the son of the richest man in Paris and he ended up falling in love with her daughter.

"But mom, Dante hasn't said anything about marriage to me, I don't think he is ready for it" Selene objected.

"He loves you right" she asked,

"Yes he does"

"Then it wouldn't hurt if you were the one to propose to him.

You see my child, we are barely living off the money that we have, your father's company isn't that stable and might soon crumble but if you end up marrying Dante then our family would be well taken care of.

Who wouldn't want to do business with the in-laws of the Shedrach family" Mary blurted out, she saw her daughter relationship as a reason to live a better life.

"You can do this much for your family right?" She asked her daughter with puffy eyes.

"Ofcourse mom, I will do something about it" Selene reluctantly answered.

"I trust that he wouldn't be able to refuse you, I can already picture him accepting the proposal" Mary pictured the thought in her head.

"You think so mom, I am bit scared about it" She expressed her fear, she wasn't scared about proposing to him but she was more scared about If he would accept her.

"You don't need to be scared my dear, I am rooting for you.

I have seen how much Dante loves you and I am certain he would accept it" Mary encouraged her.

"I will try my best" Selene answered and her mom left.

Selene was just a lady in her twenties living a normal life with her family and taking care of them with the average job she had but all that changed when she met Dante a few years ago, he promised to take care of her family which he willingly did but in return she had to quit her job.

He claimed he didn't want his girlfriend to be working when he could give her everything she ever wanted, her family began asking for more and she had more friends than she could ever imagine.

Her life suddenly became perfect with Dante and she lacked nothing all because she was with him, he had always shown her that he loved her even in the smallest way possible and it was right to say she depended solely on him to feed her family.

She picked up her phone and dailed the only man who made her heart beat.

"Hello" his husky voice spoke through the phone and a smile lit up on her face, her heart began beating faster and she couldn't breathe properly, he always had that effect on her despite how many years they had been in a relationship together.

"Hi Dante" she said playing with her hair.

"Is anything wrong?" He asked, Selene could tell that he was worried about her by his tone.

"No, just that I miss you.

I wish you were here" she stated holding her thumping heart.

"I'm sorry dear, I wish I could be there for you too but right now I have to work and would probably return home late" Dante answered.

"It's alright, I don't wish to bother you" she answered.

Dante had always had a busy schedule almost never having time for her but he never neglected her or snubbed her calls, he made her feel loved even though their relationship was not as perfect as it should be.

"Alright dear, I will call you when I am back home" he said.

"Uhhmm Dante" she called his name and he immediately replied her.

"Ya"

"Could you free up your schedule tomorrow evening so we could have dinner" she requested.

"I will see what I can do" he replied and then disconnected the call immediately.

Selene believed he was pretty much occupied so she didn't bother about it besides he was a busy man and taking a minute off work to talk to her was something meaningful to her.

She spent the rest of the day picking the time and the venue, she was already excited about meeting him but what she wasn't sure about was how he would react when she proposed to him.

Just like her mother had said, Dante had always been slow and she had to make few important decisions in the relationship, most times he would forget her birthday and their anniversary but she never for once got mad about it.

She needed him more than he needed so she played the understanding girlfriend without thinking twice about it.

She sent out invitations to create a surprise party for him because she knew how much he loved surprises, she went ahead to buy a ring and a beautiful dress for herself.

Tomorrow was a big day for her and She was eager about it, she wished the next night could come faster so that she could see Him.

It had always been her dream to be his woman, to be called Mrs Dante and introduced to his family.

The evening of the next day finally arrived and Selene's surprise party was moving smoothly, Dante had informed her that he was on the way and she made all the guest hide once they heard a car pull up thinking it was him.

A young lady walked in with her head held her staring at Selene who was waiting at the center,

"What are you doing here Cassandra" Selene asked her cousin dressed in a white dress which looked similar to hers.

Cassandra had always been in a competition with her prying into her life to know her every move.

"Can't I be at your engagement party, oh wait, you haven't proposed yet so it's just a regular party" Cassandra smirked with a smug look on her face.

"I know you are just here to watch me fail but that would not happen" Selene stood her ground against her.

"We will see" she said taking a seat not caring about the fact that everyone was hiding, she crossed her leg and took a sip from a glass of wine in front of her waiting for Dante to arrive.

Another car pulled up and Dante walked in in a black suit, he looked so neat from his black curly hair to his dark brown eyes.

Once Selene saw him, she stood there in a daze stricken by his handsomeness that she had almost forgotten what was to do next.

He strode towards her waking her up from her thoughts,

"Selene, I am so sorry I am late" he said.

"It's okay, I am glad that you are here" she answered rather too quickly.

"Surprise" a dozen voice yelled and the crowd came out of their hiding, Dante was confused.

"What's going on?" He asked,

before he knew it Selene was down on one knee pulling out a ring from a box.

"Dante, will you marry me?" She asked as all the lights came on shining brightly on them.

Dante took a while staring at her before he could finally answer.

"No"

"No" Selene asked again thinking she had actually heard wrong.

"I said no" Dante answered,

She suddenly stood up and noticed his eyes weren't on her but it was rather on Cassandra, she watched him walk away from her and towards Cassandra.

He went down on one knees and pulled out his ring from his pocket,

"Cassandra, I have been meaning to ask you for a long time, will you marry me?" He said loudly.

Selene was completely frozen gazing at them, she couldn't possibly believe that he had left her to propose to her cousin.

A man she loved with her whole heart had rejected her and proposed to her cousin.

"Dante, what are you doing?" She went to him and pulled him to look at her.

"What does it look like to you?" Dante harshly answered her.

"Yes, I will marry you" Cassandra beamed happily allowing him to put the ring on her finger.

"Dante you cannot do this to me, you cannot propose to her" she yelled at him hurt and broken.

Selene had never expected that he would turn her down or do such a thing.

"He just did" Cassandra answered waving the Diamond ring at her,

"I had told you, you were wasting your time" She added with a smile.

"You bitch, you stole my man from me" Selene grabbed her by the hair but Dante pushed her off Cassandra throwing her to the ground.

"Dante" Selene called his name shocked.

"Don't you dare touch her again or I will kill you" he strictly warned her, Selene was dumbstruck, she didn't know what to do or react.

'Was he really speaking to her that way' she thought to herself.

"Dante, it's me Selene" she stated standing up.

She thought maybe he had mistaken her and most have probably been hit in the head.

"I know exactly who you are, do you think I am going to stick with a woman who doesn't have a name for herself, you are nothing to me Selene but a cheap slut who would give herself for money" he lashed out on her while holding Cassandra's hand.

Selene didn't know when a tear drop rolled from her eyes, she doubted if it was her he was referring to as a cheap slut.

"How can you say that to me after all that I have done for you"

"Done for me, more like I have done for you.

I have been taking care of your family for a while now and the least you can do is remain a loyal slut for me to get down with but you had the guts to cheat on me.

Why?

So that your poor and wretched family can be more rich with that business you gave your body to" He said and Selene got hurt the more.

It was true that her family lived off his money and she had quit her job because of him but he didn't have to act like all her family did was leech off him.

"I would never cheat on you" she broke down.

"You can tell that to yourself you whore" he reworded.

"Dante believe me I would never cheat on you, you know how much I love you and I know you love me too" she pleaded.

"Love you?, do you believe that shit, I can never love a whore like you" he gave his last and final words to her taking Cassandra away from her as she just stood there completely humiliated.

Selene could hear rumors from her guests and friends, no one bothered to help her and none of them pitied her,

"Such a tramp"

"I never knew that was what she was doing"

"She is poor and yet she tried to tie him down to her"

She could hear the gossips they said about her and she felt hurt by it, Selene took to her heels running away from there to hear no more of their words.

There was a heavy downfall that night as she walked down her street but Selene was more occupied by the betrayal she had just witnessed than to care about the rain.

A man she loved with all her heart had rejected her and chosen her cousin over her, she felt a tug in her heart broken from it, her heart was broken to a thousand pieces.

Tonight was supposed to be a perfect night for her but it turned out to be the worst night of her life, every one was talking about her and it wouldn't take long before the media spreads evil news about her.

Selene walked barefooted on the road until she got to her home.

Once she got to her room, she fell down on her knees crying her heart out, she wished the ground could open up and swallow her, the pain was too much for her to handle.

"Just look at you" a female voice said and Selene raised her head to find her mother staring at her in disdain.

"You are a complete disgrace to us, you have not only brought shame upon us but you have stained our family name" her mother said.

If what Dante did to her wasn't hurtful enough, here her mother was blaming her for something she had suggested to her in the first place.

"What did you say?" She asked furious,

"I said you are a disappointment to this family, just wait until your father is back then you will feel his wrath" Mary relayed to her.

"I am a disappointment, this was your idea in the first place" She yelled back at her mother blaming her.

If she hadn't insinuated the marriage proposal then she wouldn't have been humiliated and betrayed by Dante.

It was all her fault that she was going through so much pain and yet she had to blame her for it.

"Where is that useless thing of a child who couldn't keep a man.

Do you realize what you have cost me" a man yelled just stepping into the house, he flung her door open and grabbed her by the hair, he didn't care about her wet body before hitting her head on the wall.

"Dad what are you doing?" She asked in terror of seeing her father act that way for the first time to her.

"You made my business partners mad claiming I had a loose daughter, how could you let such a thing happen, how dare you cheat on Dante" he barked at her.

"Dad, it would never do that" Selene defended herself.

Her father had always relied on the Shedrach family for a business deal and today he tried to use his triumph card on Mr Shedrach but all that went to waste when news of his daughter being called a whore reached Shedrach's ears.

"Shedrach was so close to signing a deal with me when he heard the news, he withdrew, do you know the amount of money you have cost me.

I am about to go bankrupt" he yelled at her.

"What was I supposed to do, he doesn't want me" Selene said accepting the fact that Dante had rejected her.

"Shut the hell up, you are going to apologize to your boyfriend and beg him to take you back" he ordered her.

"No, I can never do that" she challenged him.

"What did you just say?" He raised his voice at her.

"I can't go to him" she said putting her head down to avoid his cold gaze.

"Pack her things Mary, she is leaving this house tonight" He ordered.

At the Mount Villa, the screams of a lady pleading a man could be heard as she was being dragged into the house.

"Dad please don't do this to me" Selene begged but Leo wouldn't listen to her.

"Who could that be at this time of the night?" A young slender woman stepped out of her room furious to know what the whole commotion was about.

"Leo what the hell do you think you are doing?" She screamed at the top of her lungs.

Leo dragged Selene until she got to Dante's feet right in front of his family.

"Beg him" he ordered her but Selene just knelt in front of him without uttering a word.

"I said beg him" Leo slapped her in front of the whole family.

Selene felt so ashamed that she kept her head down, she couldn't hold back her tears once again nor could she withstand the humiliation.

why was all these happening to her, why did she have to face such shame.

She was the one who was wronged, she was the one who got rejected and yet she was asked to beg him.

She looked up to Dante and he had a smug look on his face holding a cup of coffee in his hand.

Not a look of regret was in his eyes as he stared at her, Selene began to question herself if he was always like that or she was too blinded by love to notice it.

"I said plead" Leo grabbed her by the hair and she cried out.

"Dante please"

"No" before Selene could complete her sentence he had rejected her again.

She looked at him with puffy eyes filled with tears,

"What did I ever do to you?" She asked him.

"I can't marry a whore like you" He lashed out on her and she felt hurt.

She had know no other man expect him and he would dare to call her a whore.

"Dante, you are the only man I have ever been with" she pleaded with him.

Dante was her life and everything, she never had time to look at other men because she was madly in love with him.

"Tell that to the men you have slept with" he replied her.

In the midst of the commotion, a tall young man strolled into the house not caring if it was late in the night, he walked past it all about to enter his room when he was stopped.

"Where have you been young man?" Shedrach asked him.

He turned and pulled the hoodie covering his face down, his dark brown hair was a bit damp, he had blue eyes and a chisel jaw with succulent lips.

"What do you care?" Matteo rudely replied him.

"I am sick and tired of having you walk into this house anytime you like, did you bother to check the time?" Shedrach yelled at him again.

"You can't do anything about it" Matteo challenged him not caring about what was going on.

"Oh yes I can.

From now hence forth, you are married to this young lady over here" Shedrach said pointing at Selene.

The whole family was shocked about such verdict but Matteo was more puzzled by it.

"No, you cannot do this" he reverted.

"I have done it and that is final" Shedrach stated.

He was tired of the callous lifestyle his son was living, not once had Matteo acted like he was responsible like his elder brother Dante. He was a complete humiliation to the family and what better way to restrain him than to give him a wife.

"Take her things to his room" Shedrach ordered the maids as they packed Selene's things.

"That's a much better choice" Leo said.

"Dad, why are you doing this to me?" Selene pleaded with her father, he was supposed to be her support, he was supposed to stand by her side but instead he believed what others had said about her.

"Don't you ever come back to my house, you are no longer a part of our family.

You are hereby disowned today, if I see you anywhere near the house then you will hate what I will do to you" Leo warned and walked out of there without looking back or giving his daughter a final glance.

"No, I don't want to get married to him" Selene said and ran out of the house crying.

She rushed to Leo's car and begged him to take her back but he wouldn't listen to her.

"Dad please listen to me, I am innocent.

I never cheated on him" she pleaded with her father to listen to her but he shook his head and drove out.

Selene chased after him until she was out of the Mount Villa, she kept walking down the street not bothered about the darkness.

The void she felt in her heart was bigger than her fear of the night, she just watched her life take an upside turn, from being the most talked about woman for dating the son of the richest man in Athens, she had turned into a laughing stock in just one day.

Why?

All because she proposed to her boyfriend, he called her cheap and claimed she slept with other men.

Selene walked around with no sense of direction until the moon was lost in the sky giving way to a bright atmosphere.

She never wanted to go back to the Mount Villa, she couldn't face another amount of humiliation, much worse she was now betrothed to the brother of her boyfriend.

What would the world say about her, how would they address her. She could already guess that they would call her a cheap slut, claiming she wasn't able to keep her man so she went ahead for his brother.
