Chapter 1 Strange Guy

The cloudy morning of 23rd July seems like its going to be a bad weather, that's how it has been since Cian's existence. The 23rd of July was the day his foster parents found him and they made that day his birthday. It has become a family tradition to go the place where he was found, a car recycling center. He started visiting there alone because his foster parents were too for long trip.

'Mom, I'm off' Can said as he sat on the porch to wear his shoe

'Don't stay out late' Jade, his foster mom said walking towards where he sat. When he was done with his shoes, he stood up and turned to her Jade

'Don't worry too much, you are getting old' he said softly patting her back before letting go.

'Daniel, won't you bid him goodbye?' Jade said to the man who sat on the cushion reading an old newspaper. He lifted his head from the papers

'He became a man today stop pampering him' Daniel said turning back to his papers and Cian smiled and thought

"how much he had aged".

'Dad, bye, I'll be back soon' Cian said before leaving the house.

'I miss the small him' Jade said in a nostalgic tone.

'Me too' Daniel said, Cian heard it and stopped on his track, he fought back the urge to turn back and hug them, after much struggling he brought himself to continue moving.

He continued his journey, he lived in a small town which was mostly occupied by old people as he moved he was called by few old people who were outside enjoying the cloudy morning he nodded to them in respect and continued his journey until he left the town. He bought a train ticket and boarded a train at the Subway, his charisma made people give way for him to pass, he stood facing a window and held onto a bar for support. It was a thirty minutes ride, he highlighted at another Subway that was located in a less populated area than his hometown, it was hard to know if people live in that town because it was silent as grave.

He soon left the town and headed for the woods he followed trails his foster parents made the day they found him. He followed the trail that led him to the now abandoned car recycling center. He walked towards a old dusty red car which was covered in climbers. He cleared the way to the backseat door, opened it and sat inside and breathed in the scent of the old car which now smells like plant. He leaned into the chair then close this eyes and tried to remember what happened before he was five, he tried this on every birthday but no avail.

Today seems different, as he tried to remember, he saw himself back in his five years old body standing in front of a burning house, the background seemed noisy but he couldn't hear anything. He wanted to move forward but his body felt paralyzed, he couldn't move a limb even though he wanted to help. He was intensively staring at the burning house and soon the rain began, he started hearing the sound of the rain and stuffed mumbling. He jerked awake, his face was covered in old sweat,

"What was that?" he thought to himself with his chest heaving and he was also trembling.

He turned to the window and saw it had started raining which was strange, usually it rained at night on the 23rd not in the afternoon. He took a breather to calm himself also waiting for the rain to stop, when he was calmed the rain stopped without releasing any drop of rain as if there was a sudden control.

Cian came out of the car and prepared to go home, he always know he has a sharp hearing, so he heard some cold footsteps and some kind of mouth movement sound. He followed the sound he heard which led him to something that he thought was a myth, a figure that seemed human was biting someone else neck, from afar it looks like they were kissing but with a closer look it looks like the figure was sucking out blood from the other person's neck. He was shocked almost paralyzed like in was in a trance, his head screamed danger but his body had another intention. His hand silently moved to his pocket pulling out his phone, he turned his phone camera luckily the flashlight was off so he clicked and a click sound echoed in the silence,

"Oh shit" he cursed in his head.

He had forgotten to put his phone on silence. He quickly tucked in the phone back to his pocket as the figure which was sucking blood out of the person turned to look at him, he looked like a guy that's around 20 year old.

Cian immediately made for the run into the woods, he ran without trails but was running for his life. The strange guy smiled with blood stained all over his lips and trickling down from the side of his lips as his fangs went back into his gum. He licked off the blood on his lips and tasted the metallic taste which felt like he couldn't get enough, he used the back of his hand to clean up the blood trickling down to his jaw then vamp out of the car recycling center. His speed was no joke, he definitely seem not human, in no time he caught up with Cian pinning him to a tree.

"Am I going to die like this?" Cian cursed at himself in his head for not running away. The hunger in the strange guy's eyes seemed to calm down at the sight of his face, he gentle leaned down into his neck, Cian was expecting a bite on his neck but he heard the guy sniffing him instead before he leaned out and stared at Cian again. Cian pressed his lip together showing his perfect dimples there was a slight confusion written on his face.

'Strange' the strange guy muttered and Cian heard it.

"Strange? You are more strange than me" Cian screamed in his head with fear, his uptight charisma had melted but beneath all those fear he felt there was warmth which were somehow familiar but he didn't know.

There was a rustle a sound in the bush, "Seems, I have to hunt for a new meal" the strange guy thought leaving Cian and vamping out to chase after the animal that had made the rustling.

Cian used the opportunity to run far away from that spot hoping to get to a safer place but the safer place was an unknown spot in the woods with every possible direction. Cian forgot to leave trail as he ran making him get lost. He roamed the woods getting more lost and the forest was slightly getting foggy. His stomach grumbled that's when he realized that he only had breakfast and skipped lunch and it seemed like dinner time now. He heard rustling in a nearby bush so he turned the direction and saw a familiar face, he felt less nervous seeing someone that would suffer with him. when the girl saw him both amusement and nervousness popped up her face she disgusted it with a smile.

'Cli...' her voice trailed off almost made a mistake.

'Cian' she called walking towards Cian,

'What are you doing here?' she asked,

'I'm supposed to be the one asking that question, Where are you coming from?' Cian asked point his head towards the direction of the fog.

Immediately she thought she had been found out and racked her brain to come up with a believable lie.

'This is my home town nothing is there I just got curious and wanted to check it out, you?' she lied happy that Cian didn't see any loophole in her lie.

'Today is my birthday so I occasionally visit here on my birthday and I got lost in the woods' Cian said skipping the part about the strange blood sucking guy.

'I know my way around here let's get out of the woods' she said, her name was Karin she visited Cian hometown occasionally and they met a few times.

'You said your birthday is today?' Karin asked as she led Cian out of the woods.

'Yes' Cian said with his usual charisma.

'How strange' she muttered without knowing that Cian heard her.

'Why is everyone saying "strange" today' he said striding forward as he sighted the empty town.

"Their birthday are the same too, something is strange about this, they don't only have the same face but the same date of birth obviously the same age, the only thing off is that he's human, can't say anything for sure" Karin thought as she jogged to meet up with Cian.

Chapter 2 Nights

'I'm hearing the news about Professor Richard wedding, is it for real?' Raymond asked as he reached his regular dinning table in the buffet hall, he was in his Jersey with a towel hanging over his neck which he use to wipe off his sweat. 'Yeah, it is' Clint answered dragging Raymond down to sit on a seat beside him and started eating. 'He finally decided to get married' Raymond said, 'After living for a thousand years maybe he wants a partner' Clint said

'Where is Asher?' Clint asked looking around the buffet hall and not seeing the person he was asking about.

'He hasn't been back since he went out to hunt for lunch' a voice answered, it came from the person who have been silently seating with them with a book covering his face, Sean. Sean lifted his head from the book to answer them.

'Are you sure he isn't in the mansion?' Clint asked

'I don't know, I've been in the library all day' Sean answered moving his head back to his book

'I don't know too, I was playing basketball with the pack' Raymond answered when he saw Clint glaring at him for answers.

'Oh, he's here' Raymond said nodding his head in the direction of a person who was walking towards them.

'So you've been hunting all day?' Clint asked the person who just sat down beside him. They say on a table which was surrounded with four chairs.

'Stop questioning him, by the way Sean, what are you eating?' Raymond asked standing up from his seat 'Just pineapple pizza' Sean answered without lifting his head from his book

'Asher? Don't worry I would just get you five blood bags' Raymond said quickly as he saw Asher face expression that says "Stupid question".

Asher was staring at Clint as if the answers he seek are on his face while Clint ate without noticing. As Clint chewed Asher stared waiting for a dimple to show but he got nothing. 'Clint, did you follow me when I went to hunt for lunch?' Asher asked as he leaned on the table.

'Why would I do that I got better things to do' Clint replied turning his head to see him and glared at him.

'You smell like animal is that what you got lunch?' Clint asked as he sniffed Asher a bit and chuckled

'Not only animal also human, it was a nice' Asher said thinking to himself what he saw during his hunt, someone that looked like Clint.

Asher wanted to sniff Clint to confirm what he saw in the woods so he leaned on Clint's chair and sniff. "They smell the similar and not the same at the same time" Asher thought to himself.

'I hope you aren't having me for dinner on my own birthday' Clint jokes and Asher leaned back into his own chair.

'I got your orders' Raymond announced as he reached their table with their orders in his hands, he distributed them and sat on his seat to eat his dinner. Clint turned to his friends who were all silently consuming their meal he got fed up of keeping his question to himself.

'Why am I not having a party on my birthday' Clint asked and no one replied him. Raymond lifted his thumb up as if to signal someone and immediately their environment change from an expensive buffet hall to a garden by the sea. The garden was decorated with blue light and snowflakes

'Wow, how did you do it? Your speciality is Earth' Clint asked happily looking around

'Come on, I'm still a witch but we asked for a favor from the witches' Raymond said pleased to see the happy expression on Clint face at night.

'We?' Clint asked not believing that they planned all that together for his birthday.

'Yeah, we' They chorused, 'Ok, chill' Clint said and continued looking around 'One more thing to make this perfect' Clint said making everyone look at him. He stretched out his arm towards the direction of the sea and focused his mind, the sea started freezing from the edges till it reached the middle of the sea and it was completely frozen.

'Perfect' he mouthed.

Some witches who dressed like waiter came over to their table and silently placed a steak cake that had a candle on it and left without saying a word.

'Blow out the candle, softly' Raymond pushing the steak cake to Clint, everyone now had their attention on him even Sean closed his book placing it on the table and giving his attention on his friends. Clint blew off the candle and smiled stupidly like a child who was gifted his favorite candy, Raymond smiled with him but Sean and Asher looked at him expressionlessly.

'Stop being so gloomy on my birthday' Clint said shaking Sean my his arm, they loosing up and relaxed into their chair relieved that he's cheerful and not gloomy.

'Why did you guys pick the night to celebrate my birthday?' Clint asked finally noticing something was off. Throughout his previous birthday they always celebrated his birthday at noon and leave him all to himself at night

'We don't plan on letting you be alone tonight' Sean said taking a knife to cut the cake into equal pieces and placed them in their plates before they ate.

'Who is up for ice skating?' Clint said running towards the frozen sea after they were done with eating.

'Not me' Sean said going back to his books

'Count me out' Asher said, Raymond took the two by the hand and dragged to the frozen sea. 'No skate shoes' Asher said looking for an excuse to be left of the hook, Clint smile and pointed his index finger at their shoe soles was covered in ice 'Who need skate shoes when you got me' Clint said and did the same for himself and started skating, they followed after him, happy to see that Clint was happy on the night of his birthday after a long time.

They skated for a while before, everyone got tired except from Clint who was still hyped, he melted the sea with a click of his finger and controlled the waves. He made an ice surf board by focusing his mind and started surfing, showing off different moves. He seemed so happy that it did make them a bad person if they disturb him, the rest of his friends sat on the shore and watched him entertain them until he got tired

'I'm so worn out' Clint complained as he controlled the wave to move him to the shore

'Exseptremé' Sean said a spell making Clint cloth dry. 'Let's go back home' Sean said snapping his fingers and immediately their surrounding changed to the seating room of their mansion.

"Alas I can go mourn him" Clint thought tiredly

'We are having a sleepover here in the sitting room' Raymond said

'What?!' Clint said as he jerked off the black rugged floor, just when he finally thought he would be left alone.

'Are you surprised, I can't let you make it rain this night' Raymond said as he went upstairs to grab the blankets and mattress and also change from his jersey.

'You think we didn't notice that every night on your birthday it rains' Sean said

'Oh, I didn't notice, it might be a coincidence' Clint lied

'Stop lying, it's because you get agitated on the night of your birthday' Asher said smacking Clint's head. Soon Raymond was back with four mattress and blanket enough for four of them, they laid down on the ground with heads facing each other forming a four legged star. They stared blankly at the ceiling which was painted white with none of them able to voice out their thoughts until Raymond decided to lighten up the mood.

'Do you remember the last time we had a sleepover at your place before everything happened?' Raymond asked with a hoarse voice

'Yes, that was my best memory' Clint answered.

'The ceiling of my room was transparent and we could see the stars' Clint continued feeling nostalgic

'Yeah, we matched stars together to form images' Sean said.

'He matched a snow flake' Asher joined in the memory lane.

'He looked happy then' Clint said and the cloud outside started gathering as he felt a sharp pain of longing in his chest.

'Clint, think of only good memories' Sean said as he took and squeezed Clint hand.

'I've been working on this, check it out' Sean said and swipe up his free hand as if to clean an imagery glass. Immediately the white ceiling turned to a starling sky, a night sky filled of stars.

'When did you learn this, bookworm' Raymond asked 'I've been working on it, I just perfected it now' Sean replied 'Who taught you' Clint asked

'Books'

'How did you do it?' Clint asked again

'I'm specialized in Nature, I concerntrated on the memory of the sky that we matched when we were kids and was able...' Sean stopped his explaination when he saw that they were listening to him they matched the stars instead 'Why did I even bother ' Sean sighed and joined them.

'Clint, if you see your twin brother now, what would you do' Asher asked pretending not to care about the answer but that was what was bothering him.

'I would hug him tell him how much I miss him, we would even do more, but he is dead' Clint answered as he thought of what his twin brother would like if he was still alive even when he knew that they were identical, it made him fell happy and it started snowing.

'Clint, you're making it snow' Raymond said as he turned his head to the window. 'I don't know but thinking about him make him fell close to me, I guess that's why it's snowing' Clint said smiling happily.

'Clint, what's the color of your eyes' Asher asked

'Sky blue' Clint responded.

"That boy in the woods today looks like Clint but he has dimples and a familiar deep blue eyes, do different people look alike ? or... no, he died" Asher tried clearing his thoughts of the person he ran into while he was in hunt that afternoon for lunch.

Chapter 3 Origin I

There was a knock on Cian's room door, 'Yes, come in' he answered 'I brought you more blankets, it's snowing' Jade said as she came in and drop the blankets on the bed.

'What are you doing?' Jade asked as she walked towards Cian who was sitting in front of his desktop. 'Nothing, just stuff' Cian answered immediately switching off the desktop.

'Secret? just don't stay up late, by the way it's beautiful outside if you want to check it out' Jade smiled and left his room. Cian opened his curtain and looked out the window, Jade was right it was beautiful, it looked like white rain drizzling from the sky and decorating the dry street,

"But how can it snow during summer, strange, but why did it snow instead of raining this night, this is driving me crazy, but it somehow feels right" Cian thought to himself and went back to sit in front of his desktop, switching it on to continue what he was doing.

'Blood sucking beings' he muttered as he typed, The internet brought out myths so he clicked on a website that explained more. Without reading through, Cian's eyes caught some words, "Feed on blood", "Speed", "Strength", "Sharp hearing" and "Fangs". All this words sent chills to Cian's spine, his body knew what he saw dangerous but his curious mind still wanted to go back and check it out.

Lastly, his eyes caught a word that made him switch off the desktop, "Vampire".

He decided to go cool down in the snow, the snowflakes from the sky dropped on his hair and skin reminding him that he should have brought a coat with him so he turned back to go inside the house to grab a coat. There was a sudden rush of blood to his brain making him stop on his track.

He suddenly remembered a face, it was like he was back in his five years old body, he was looking at four children who were likely the same age with him but they were facing their backs him as if they were looking at something far ahead. One of the children called his name 'Cian!' and everyone of them turned back facing him,

'Hurry! Come see this' A boy said to him dragging him along, strangely the boy looked like him but was not him but he had never felt so happy before to being around strange kids.

When Cian got himself he had fallen down in front of the door and his eyes were watery, he touched his cheek and it was wet, "Did I just cry?" he thought to himself unbelievably. It'd looked like was crying but he didn't know why it felt like something was missing. He decided to stay under the snow without a coat. The snowflakes dropped on his arm since he wore a short sleeve shirt but surprisingly it didn't feel cold, it felt good and familiar.

'Hey boy, come inside or you are going to get a cold' A voice said pulling him out of his thoughts, he turned to see it was Daniel who was snuggling in a fur coat, he smiled and went inside with him. He retired to his bed to rest after his crazy birthday, he cuddled on his pillow for comfort, but he felt no comfort coming from the pillow but from the snow, his curtain was opened so he turned to face his window watching the snow fall, it felt comforting. The kind of comfort you feel when you get home after a hard day. He felt closer to something or someone but he wasn't sure.

He didn't know when he slept off he felt the ray of sunshine on his face, he opened his eyes and the room was bright, thanks to the sunshine emitting from the window. He looked out the window hoping to see some melting snow on the ground but it was all like it was never there to begin with. it somehow didn't surprise him, it always happened after the rain on his birthday night, the next morning the weather would be back to the regular summer like it never fell, dry land even the potholes were dry and when he asked his parents about the rain they always responded 'What rain?'. Nobody in town remembers what happens on his birthday night except him same happened today when he asked about the last night snow they didn't remember a thing.

'What are you doing today?' Jade asked as they ate their breakfast of fried egg and toast.

'Nothing exactly I'm going to retrace my steps of yesterday and confirm something' Cian answered and bit on his toast.

'You are curious of your origin?' Jade asked feeling like her happiness was fading away and she couldn't do anything about it.

'He has the right to know, Jade and he got to live with the consequences of whatever...he...fi..nds' Daniel said as his voice trails off.

'I'm not leaving you guys, you're my family, I just want to know my origin and I promise I would be back, is not like I'm going far. stop making a big deal out of it' Cian said cleaning his lips with a napkin then gathering the plates and taking them to the sink to wash it.

Jade had started sobbing by the time he was done with doing the dishes

'Come on mom, I'm not even sure I would find anything or if they are even alive' Cian said patting her shoulder and going back into the kitchen to grab a pen knife. 'So I'm off!' he announced and went to the porch to wear this shoe with Jade and Daniel trailing behind. They shared a family hug which was filled with warmth and comfort before he left.

He had the same trip as he did the day before, he was at the front of the car recycling site but he didn't go in instead he looked for the direction he ran through when saw the vampire as he moved he used the pen knife to make a "plus" sign on the trees he didn't find what he was looking for so he traced his steps back with the trail he had made and got back to the car recycling center. He decided to recall the way Karin used to get him out of the woods when he was lost. He repeated the same thing, making trails as he went, soon he was back to the part where he had lost himself the previous day.

He was standing a few steps away from the fog contemplating if he should go in or not, he decided to go in. He walked steadily into the fog minding every footsteps he made, he thought he wouldn't see a thing but he could see clearly,he saw a wooden bridge ahead. When he got closer to the bridge, it was an old wooden bridge, it was made of planks and join by rope at the sides which helps to balance as they moved. The end of the bridge was not visible like it was still a long way to go, he was curious about where the bridge ends and some kind of force keeps attracting him there.

He stepped on the bridge, held onto the rope for balance and he took one step at a time, some plants seemed to have fallen out. There was most around the bridge and he couldn't see what was around him then a strong wind blew the bridge shaking it. He held onto the rope tightly but couldn't hold on for long, he soon fell off the bridge

"I see this is my end" he thought as he fell, he then close his eyes to accept his fate embracing the darkness.
