Kiara is however scarred and will only agree to the union on one condition, and Alpha Devon isn't one to be given conditions.

Chapter 1 1

Kiara was all smiles as she looked into the mirror surrounded by her friends. It was her 19th birthday and the hall downstairs has been turned into a birthday hall fitting for the daughter of an Alpha, but that was not the only reason she was so excited.

"Are you ready to finally find your mate?"

"How excited are you?! Two of her friends, Tanya and Chloe asked excitedly and a deep red coated her face.

Werewolves found their mates when they both turn 19, which is why dating is strictly forbidden in the community and it made everyone overly excited to finally find their mates and Kiara was not immune to all that. She has been looking forward to finding her mate for as long as she can remember and today was finally the day. She tried to keep from guessing who it was, but she has been playing guessing games in her mind all day.

"Alright, time to make our bets before she goes down to the hall." Chloe started and brought out the 50-dollar bill in her bag, "my shot is on Alex, he has been making eyes at her since his 19th birthday."

"My bet is on Christian; they've been friends for a very long time. I'm sure the moon goddess would make them a match."

Kiara rolled her eyes and stood up, showing her red gorgeous ball gown. She took in her face coated in delicate makeup and smiled. "If you guys are done betting on my future, can we go down now and find out who it is?"

"Yes!" they both chimed at once and opened the door for her to lead the way, and Kiara walked away with the both of them trailing behind her.

She expected to be hit with the scent of her mate and be overpowered by an urge to go meet him like she read about, but there was absolutely nothing like that. She didn't feel anything different, she felt oddly normal and it send certain signals up her brain; what if she ends up like the werewolves who never found their mates?

Before she could give in to the thought, her parents appeared before her and pressed kisses against her cheeks. "Happy birthday, Princess, you look absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking." They chorused even though they already wished her at 12 AM, and a bright grin covered her face.

"Thank you, mummy. Thank you, daddy."

"I hope you will enjoy your party and at the end of the day, we hope to see you latched onto someone's arm," her mum, Luna Camilia said, and her dad interjected almost immediately

"And if you are not latched to someone's arm at the end of the night, that is absolutely fine as well sweetheart."

She rolled her eyes jokingly at her dad. She knew he meant well and was just being over protective, but the mere thought of not finding her mate by the end of the night absolutely terrified her.

She knew some people like Jane, who didn't find her mate at nineteen, and she had witnessed the life get drained out of her and she does not want to be one of those people. Absolutely not. She has to lead her pack, and she must have her Alpha Consort for everything to be perfect.

"Go and have fun, sweetie. Your friends are all waiting for you." Kiara snapped out of her thoughts to meet her mum's smile and she bobbed her head almost swiftly. The scary thoughts casted some birthday blues on her, so she dragged her feet away from them into the crowd that was filled with her friends, acquaintances, classmates, schoolmates, and random pack members, who didn't fail to wish her a happy birthday whenever she waltzed past them, and slowly the birthday happy vibes returned.

Every thought of a mate rolled to the back of her mind and she enjoyed every bit of her party. From dancing, to having a few drinks, playing games, singing karaoke horribly, every bit of the activity that went on filled her with joy, but that came to an end when the hall started emptying out and Chloe and Tanya ran up to her, wiggling their brows as they smiled mischievously.

"Soo..." Chloe dragged out

"Found him yet?" Tanya completed, and Kiara's smile faltered, instantly Chloe and Tanya's smile vanished. "Are you okay?"

"I haven't found him," she tried to keep a brave front and a smile on her face, but the tears pooling in her eyes gave away the pain she was feeling, "I am so scared that I will not find him, I don't know if...." The rest of her words were drowned out by a strong smell and her eyes widened.

"Oh my god," she breathed out and before she could fully process it, her legs started moving on its own accord, and her worried friends followed closely behind to make sure she was not about to do something silly.

The closer Kiara got to the backdoor, the stronger the scent got, and she found herself holding onto her gown as she started running. The moment she made it out of the door, the pack's Gamma's only son, and one of the most handsome men of the pack, Kristen, stood there with a knowing smile on his face, while Kiara panted as she tried to catch her breathe.

"Hello mate," he whispered, and released his hands that had been tucked behind his back all these whiles to reveal the bouquet of flowers he got for her and a smile so huge it felt like her cheeks were about to burst open.

"You knew," she breathed out and took calculated short steps towards him, "why did you come so late then?"

"I wanted you to enjoy your day properly,"

Her cheeks turned a light shade of pink and she took the bouquet from him. "Thank you, Kristen."

"Usually, when mates meet each other there is a long moment of embrace, why have..." Kiara didn't let him finish his sentence and dramatically flung herself in his arms.

Chloe who had watched everything was grinning from ear to ear, but Tanya looked pale as a ghost, her eyes firmly pressed on Kristen who had carefully avoided her gaze.

Chapter 2 2

"I have something to tell you," Tanya said as she barged into Kiara's room without even knocking and Kiara immediately sat up on the bed, looking apprehensive with her sleep coated face.

She had stayed up later than expected with Kristen talking about everything and nothing all the same, and when she was finally ready to retire for bed in hopes that she'll spill everything to her parents, she found out they were already asleep, and she already planned how today was going to go and it did not involve Tanya running into her room like a scared cat first thing in the morning.

"What's wrong? Are you okay? Did anything happen?"

Tanya bit her bottom lip and rubbed her hands nervously. "Well, it's about...Kristen."

Kiara's heart dropped to her stomach and her eyes widened. "What happened to him? Is he okay?"

"Kristen is fine," Tanya said forcefully and Kiara drew back with a raised brow, "it's about me and him."

"What?"

"What I have to tell you is about Kristen and I."

Kiara's eyes narrowed suspiciously and she shifted a bit from Tanya, and stared at her with narrowed eyes and suspicion all over face. "What about you and Kristen?"

"We've been dating, for over a year now, and what's worse? I have already had sex with him."

"What?"

"Yes," she nodded, this time tears were streaming down her face, "we were both convinced it was me and him because he felt a connection to our group." She grabbed Kiara's hands, "you can't be with him, Kiara, I love him and I already gave myself up for him."

Kiara who was stunned into silence just gazed at her tear-stricken face for a while before she snatched her hand away from her, and stood to her feet. "How could you both make such a mistake, Tanya? Dating is strictly forbidden for this very reason, how could you?"

"I like him, a lot, and I just couldn't help myself. When he said he felt a connection to the group, I thought this was..."

"Just stop," Kiara cut her off, and pinched the spot between her brows as she paced around her room. Of all the scenarios she had in her head about meeting her mate and potential problems they might encounter; this was not even in her wildest imagination.

"What does Kristen have to say about this?"

Surprise flickered through Tanya's eyes and her face hardened for a brief moment before she broke down in tears again, "I'm your friend, Kiara, do..."

"And he is my mate!" she gritted through clenched teeth and Tanya flinched. When she recovered, she buried her face in her hands and began sobbing violently.

"He only apologized and said he'll try to make it up to me, but there's nothing he can do given that you are his mate."

Kiara palmed her face and exhaled loudly. "You can go,"

"Kiara," Tanya whispered as she brought out her face from her palms, "You can't be with him. You can't be with the man that your friend lo..."

"I said you should go, Tanya. I'll speak to you later."

She didn't wait for Tanya to leave or respond, she just walked into her bathroom and locked the door behind her, leaving Tanya to glare hard at the door before she stood up and marched out of the room angrily.

Kiara washed up and immediately dressed up, refusing to give any thoughts to what she heard until she consulted with her parents. They were the only ones she trusted to give her proper advice and make proper decisions.

Luckily for her, when she got downstairs, they were already at the dining table, but before the happiness could kick in properly, Kristen walked in smiling at them, and from the fond smiles on her parents' faces she could tell that he already let them in on the news.

"Princess, you are here," her father said, pulling her into a side hug. Her mum smiled and she returned the smile, but she did everything possible to avoid Kristen's gaze.

"I see you already got the news," she said taking a seat beside her mum instead of beside Kristen like everyone expected, but they waved it off by deeming her as shy.

"Yes," her mum was the one to respond, "he came in the early hours of the morning to tell us. This union is blessed."

"Indeed, I was nervous to see who she's been fated to, but seeing her with him has calmed all my nerves."

Kiara smiled a bit forcefully, and Kristen was quick to pick up on it. He extended his hand towards her to hold hers but she immediately retracted her hand and he arched a brow at the sudden change from the girl who was excited to speak to him just last night.

"I'm sorry to ask, but I can please steal Kiara away for 10 minutes?"

Luna Camilia who thought her daughter was being shy and needed some time with her mate nodded eagerly. "Of course, young mates need all the alone time they can get."

"And while you guys are away, I'll send for your father, so we can start the necessary arrangements."

Kiara broke into a fitful cough, and her parents laughed it off as her being embarrassed but Kristen sensed better so he grabbed her and took her to a secluded part of the house. Once they were in a private area, she forcefully dragged her hand away from Kristen's grip and his brows shot up.

"What's wrong?"

"Don't act like you don't know."

His face fell and he looked around, looking lost, and Kiara scoffed at what she deemed an act. "I don't ..."

"You and Tanya. She told me about the two of you. The dating, and the sex? Two of you went against the pack rules and now I am stuck in the mess with the both of you? What the hell were you thinking? You should have known better!"

"Kiara, look I..."

"I think you should go home first, Kristen," the both of them turned to see Luna Camilia glaring at them with her face hardened, "what you have done is a big offence, and a bigger mess than you think and I am not sure I want my daughter to be dragged into this."

Chapter 3 3

"They embarrassed you, didn't they?" Gator asked as Kristen walked in with a sullen look on his face, "I warned you that they were going to treat you like trash simply because you are beneath them"

Kristen plopped on the seat beside his father and sighed. "You know that's not the case, dad. I went against the pack rules and now it has come back to bite me in the ass. It's not a thing of class."

Gator tutted and sprang to his feet, visibly annoyed at his son for being daft and oblivious to what he regards as the truth. "You are just choosing to live in denial, Kristen. Do you think anyone would have cared about any of this if I were the alpha or you were the alpha?"

"Dad, what are you trying to say? I am not..."

Before he could complete his sentence, the door was pushed open and Tanya stormed in, her eyes all puffy with tear streaks all over her face. She mumbled an incoherent greeting to Gator, then went straight to Kristen, whose face contorted into a frown at the sight of her. He didn't hate her, but the mate bond made it almost impossible for him to love her either.

"What do you think you are doing here? I told you this was over."

"And you also said that you loved me, but here we are so I guessed you don't mean the things you say."

He released a breath and palmed his face, "listen, Tanya, I..."

"You can't marry or mate with Kiara." She said defiantly, and Kristen raised his brows

"And why is that?"

"I am pregnant."

To Kristen, the announcement felt like a bombshell was dropped on him, but Gator's lips tugged up in a cunning smile. He finally got the opportunity he needed to sway his son over to his side.

"That can't be, Tanya. We were always careful, I was always careful."

Crossing her arms across her chest, she rolled her eyes at him, "Obviously not careful enough because I am pregnant with your child and you have to take responsibility."

"But I can't!" He rose to his feet. "I have a mate that I can't abandon."

"And a child that you can absolutely not abandon as well. I am your responsibility and I will be damned if you think you can push me to the pack."

"You know," Gator said, interrupting their conversation and all eyes turned to him, "there is always a way for everything to work out." A hopeful glimmer instantly lit up in Kristen's desperate eyes, but Tanya's heart dropped to her stomach at the thought of anything going wrong with her well curated plans.

"You absolutely cannot marry him, Kiara. He has marked another woman, your friend." Alpha Reid, trying to keep his voice calm, but the annoyance and fury he felt kept seeping into his voice. He wanted to go after Kristen and tear him apart limb by limb for deceiving his daughter.

Kiara who had been keeping up a cold front faltered when tears clouded her eyes at the thought of having to call off her mating with Kristen. This was one of her biggest fears. To the werewolf community, the mating bond was extremely important, but to her it was heavenly, it was beyond scared and the thought of calling it off seemed sacrilegious, and what was worse, she was already in love with the asshole. Flicking away the teardrops that somehow escaped, she stood to her feet and forced a smile.

"I'm sorry, but I think I need to excuse myself. Let's talk about this later, okay?"

Reid and Camilia exchanged glances and then turned to her, and Camilia nodded softly. "Try to not give it much thoughts and do not blame yourself, okay? It is not your fault, and you did nothing to deserve it."

Her mother's words caused a tear to roll down Kiara's face and she smiled, this time, genuinely before she stood up and gave them both kisses on the cheeks in quick successions before she practically ran up to her room.

Once she was within the safety and privacy of her room, she flung herself to the bed and started crying. She cried so much a large part of her pillow was thoroughly soaked, and eventually, she drifted off to sleep.

Her parents who had been lingering at her door to make sure she doesn't do anything stupid sighed in relief once they heard her snoring.

"I am going to invite Gator over for some talk, it seems he has gone wrong somewhere in raising his son." He said and marched down the stairs, taking it three at a time while Camilia hastily went after him.

"He is the pack gamma, I'm sure he did his best with his son. I'm sure Kristen just strayed like every other child is likely to. Let's not blame Gator, and we should invite Kristen as well so all this can be settled as amicably as possible."

"If I see that boy around, I make no promises of safety." No sooner had the words left his mouth when Gator and Kristen walked into the house, and a house trembling growl left Reid's lips, forcing the guests to their knees, scared for their lives.

"How dare you show your face here, knowing quite well what you have done?"

Kristen flinched and scooted closer to his father, who glared at him before he cleared his throat and slightly raised his head to meet Reid's angry gaze.

"My son has greatly offended you and your family, Alpha, but we are here to talk and offer a way to settle this as peacefully as possible."

Camilia placed her hand gently on his and he snapped his eyes shut as he took a deep breath. "Stand up and let us talk."

Kiara who was sleeping peacefully was suddenly jarred awake by the horrible dream she just had, Kristen had violently rejected her while Tanya stood by his side smiling, and no sooner had she woken up from her dream, she heard a loud scream downstairs.
