Driving the bus slowly along the street of new York the driver was looking deprived of sleep and tired and the noise coming from the back was not helping much, the kids were to loud to his dismay, focusing on the road with heavy eyes his mind wondering about how much he needs the money for college and his little bundle of joy, when all of a sudden a black Jeep at the side of the bus lost control.
It kept going in circle trying as much as possible to stop so as not get hit, the car hit the bus making it lose brake going off the road running into a street lamp which came crashing down on the bus injuring the driver as he went unconscious.
The kids at the back were crying, people on the sidewalk with their phone trying to record the incident that just took place while some are trying to get the children of the bus, at the other end of the road the black Jeep stopped it looked like it was not even damage.
Opening his eyes all he saw was white he head was pounding and the beeping noise coming from the machines was not helping at all he felt so tired as if his life was slowing leaving his body, he kept trying to keep his eyes open he could also hear the cry of a girl which got him confuse who it was he kept trying to keep his eyes open everything was getting blurry but he felt like he needed strength to keep his eyes open for someone he kept looking around his system was slowly shutting down he felt so tired.
He could see her she was standing with tears in her eyes he left like comforting her but he felt weak he hated himself for making her cry again but this time he couldn't help it he was too tired to do anything slowly he closed his eyes and letting the darkness consume him.
It kept going on for weeks he would hear her cries open his eyes to see her before letting the darkness consume him and every single time he hear her cry his heart hurts alot it was hunting him and he kept wishing for strength to comfort her, he was willing to sacrifice anything to just comfort her, tears was the last thing he wanted to see in her eyes.
Two weeks later
He woke up feeling alot better opening his eyes he quickly shut them groaning loudly at the brightness in the room coming from the opened window opening them again to adjust to it he saw the room was a little bit dim now turning to the window he saw the nurse shutting the blinds to keep the sun from shinning inside after she done she turned to him to look at him with disgust.
"the only reason why am helping you is so you will better so as to get those kids the justice they deserve from a sick human like you" she said.
After saying that she gave him a disgusted look one last time before storming out the room probably to call the doctor.
Not having time to register all that just happened cause his mind was still a little bit hazy, he kept looking at the celling trying to remember how he got here and how he almost died.
He remembered the cries he heard while he was asleep, trying to recall all that and stressing his brain he head started to pound again.
The door opened a doctor came in with a smile and greeted him "so how you feeling Mr Damien" he asked.
With a nod he answered still quiet as the doctor carried on with his questions he tired answering the one he could after the check up the doctor asked the nurse to go him some drugs before excusing himself.
Immediately he left the nurse waisted no time to ask "so when are you going to be turning yourself in."
With a confuse look Damien looked at her not getting what was going on.
The nurse continued "ohh please don't give me that innocent looked we all know why you did what you did and to think you also have a kid." " what is wrong with this generation they don't keep their dicks in one place having kids at a young age and blame everything they do on mental health" she said in one breathe before looking at him with disgust and storming off banging the door on her way out.
Leaving him confused more than ever before his mind went wild. He kept thinking how she knew about his daughter and why she said all she said, he head kept hurting with all the stressful thought he was giving his brain.
Deciding to rest one last time he closed his eyes letting sleep take him away.
Waking up with much strength than before he saw a tray of food covered beside his bed helping his self to it cus he was starving he digged in, his mind kept wandering to his girl were she was and if she was okay.
After finishing his meal he placed it back on the trolley. Stretching a little he once again thought of how to go see how is girl was doing he kept wondering when he was going to be discharged his wounds were already heal he just need his strength back. Looking at the calendar placed by the side of the clinic bed he saw the date and gasped he as been on this damn bed for two weeks now in shock he quickly pressed the button beside him asking for the doctor's attention.
Rushing into his room they asked what was wrong, he asked them when he could leave and what exactly happened answering him the doctor just asked him to rest for now and trust him looking at the doctor he decided to calm down well just for now he thought.
Roaming around the hospital to stretch his self he felt eyes on him in the hall while some reflected pity other reflected pain and disgust making him uncomfortable, turning around he decided to return to his room but something caught his attention it was his picture in the television, confuse he walked towards the object to listen to it, his eyes widen at what he was seeing the headline read
" Driver crashed into his ex to get revenge for being dump" on the television was the video of the jeep which crashed into the bus he was driving, the guard opened the door and his ex came out of it with bandage wrapped around her head looking stressed out.
Talking to the reporter "I don't remember much all I know is that his eyes connected with my and the next thing I know he glared at me before hitting the car with the side of the bus and after that everything went black due to fear " she said having a fearful and pitiful look before walking into a building.
Looking confuse he looked around to see everyone looking at him in the hall with a look of disgust and hatred, he stood there silently trying to wrap his head in what he just saw right now.
Staring blankly in the hallway his mind was empty he was confused about what was happening standing there with a shocked expression masked on his face.
He was suddenly dragged, still looking confused.
Coming back to his senses he looked around confused to see he was back to his room he looked at the doctor who locked the door looking at him with a concerned look.
"You need to calm down" he said while tuning the music on increasing the volume a little before turning to him.
Sitting him down he tried to explain the situation "you need to understand that your life is at danger right now and we have to act right and not rash"
Looking at him he explained everything that happened while Damien was in coma he told he knew he would never do anything like that cause he trusted him and even though Damien can't remember him he had known him for a very long time but it was another story for another time.
Damien burst into tears thinking about his life and what he was going to do. A lot of grave allegations were thrown against him which of course were not true but who would believe a common bus driver like him kneeling down on his knees while looking up at his only helper and means of survival for now.
He begged for help, he had a daughter he could not let down, he needed this man's help even if he could not recall knowing him in the past he decided to trust him for the sake of himself and most importantly his daughter.
"Please help me if all these things are wrong. I would never do such to those kids. I have one myself so I would never hurt them. Please help me please."
Looking down at him sadly he replied "I will try my best Damien but you have to do exactly what I say okay? "nodding his head, Damien agreed.
Evening was fast approaching the sun was already setting the hospital was gradually getting a little bit quiet, the doctor leading the way as Damien walked behind him entering the VIP section of the hospital everywhere looked nice, it looked comfortable the hallway looked like they were in a 5 star hotel, standing briefly to admire the lounge area he kept staring lost in the beauty, noticing he could not hear the sound of footsteps behind him again the doctor turned around to see his friend staring at the area with an awe expression.
He stood looking at him briefly before whistling at him to get him back to his sense and their mission, turning to look at the doctor Damien continued following him behind until they stopped at the front of a big door, looking at him the doctor smiled before knocking
Hearing a come in they entered bending his head and mentally preparing himself for what was going to seem like the worst moment of his life Damien followed the doctor into the room.
"Good evening sir, ma" the doctor greeted them, with a nod the couple responded "I brought him here to apologize just like you wanted."
Stepping forward Damien raised his head to meet the pairs of eyes in the room looking at him looking at them all one after the other but stopping at a set of very familiar eyes he looked at her with anger and regret.
Noticing the look the young man directed to his daughter the old man stood up angrily, matching toward him before smacking him on the face and raising his head again smacking him, he continued before stopping.
Holding Damien he spat at "him how dare you looked at her like that you lowlife" "I warned her to leave your disgrace of an ass a long time ago thankfully she left even though it was with a scar she now free, and what how dare you give her that look, answer me damn it".
He shouted, pushing him, rolling his sleeves, smacking him again before asking him to go on his knees.
Damien knowing what was at risk said nothing and went on his knees secretly glancing at the lady on the bed who was trying her best to avoid looking at him, putting his head down he begged "am sorry sir" he kept repeating those three words.
Raising his head up the old man said "the press are coming here tomorrow you are going answer every single question" "you are going to say every single thing my daughter said is true you caused the crashed, you were angry, you wanted revenge, you are guilty and sorry"
He said poking his chest with his middle finger to emphasize his words "that's all you can do to save your pathetic life from my hands" he continued
"And if you decide otherwise I will make sure to crush your life and everything you hold and if you say all you are instructed to say and it still affects my business I will crush your life still"
The old man said with a smirk bending down to Damien level he continued "so my dear boy if I were you I had pray for the increase in profit of my business if you want a peaceful life am I clear"
With a nod Damien answered, turning around the old man signaled for him to leave standing up he left before closing the doctor he heard the man calling him a fool and the laughter of his and his wife.
Leaning against the door he looked up to see the doctor looking at him with a pitiful and worried look. He tried to smile but the pain was too much for him to handle. His eyes were getting clouded and everything was closely getting dark.
Standing there looking at his friend, his throat was dry and heavy. He found it hard to swallow his spit. His friend was suffering a lot and he had nothing he could do to help him out.
Noticing his eyes slowly closing he immediately rushed towards him before his body made contact with the floor, dragging him to his room he requested for a nurse to help him with some drugs and injections.
Opening his eyes Damien saw it was dawn already slowly trying to sit up on his bed he felt a hand trying to help him he turned to see the doctor thanking him.
He asked when the press was coming and the doctor told him in the next few hours, placing his hand on his shoulder and looking down at him with pity, Damien smiled at him thanking him once again for everything before going back to sleep.
Chapter Three
It was around 10 in the morning he had eaten and was preparing himself for the next phrase of his life, his eyes were dull.
He could hear the nurses whispering about how he should suffer more than this and how what he's going through is a justified punishment for his actions.
A nurse announced the press were here, nodding his head saying he was ready, she turned and left, coming back shortly with a bunch of people who held mic and cameras.
Entering his room they began as time was not on their side asking a bunch of questions which he answered wisely, after all the questions he was asked if he had anything more he had to say.
Looking up at the camera " I would like to apologize to every family of the kids that were on the bus that day they did not deserve all the pain they are going through now, it my fault and I take full responsibility and I say i'm sorry" he said bowing down his head to show his remorse.
After his statement the cameras were turned off and the anchor turned to the corner of the room going to greet the old man seated there.
Looking at them Damien saw how much money was important in this world.
It was afternoon already everything was settled, the television was buzzing with his statement he was in the headlines of almost every news channel.
Sitting by the window he saw from a distance a mob of angry protesters trying to make their way into the hospital, his door burst open and the doctor came rushing together asking him to get his things fast. It was time to leave.
Leading him towards the parking lot he placed a piece of paper into his hands before handing over the key to the car and a hoodie.
That is the address where your kid is going there quickly. I left some food, clothes and money in the car you need to leave now okay before they change their mind and get the police.
Nodding his head Damien entered the car thanking the doctor so much for his help he started the car and drove out of the hospital
Speeding towards the side gate of the hospital his eyes were trained on the road but his mind was fear away from where he was, set on the information in the piece of paper that was stuck tightly between his hands and the steering wheel.
Back at the hospital a lady was staring down at the speeding car, a worried expression plastered on her face for him but hoping for his safety is all she could do right now.
Reaching the address given to him he stopped the car a little bit far from the house not wanting to draw attention to himself.
He was about to cross to the other side when an old lady called to him waving at him.
Turning around he saw his little girl with her running toward her he hugged his little girl as she cried happy to see her father again, picking her up he went to the old lady greeting with a smile she asked him to wait for her while she brought some stuff she was asked to give him.
Placing his daughter inside the car he locked it before crossing the road to go collect the stuff from the lady.
Coming out of the house the lady asked him where the little girl was. He answered while taking the stuff out of his hands, but was stopped by the scream of the old lady talking about robbers, drug Lords and kidnappers.
Immediately he rushed to the car he saw a guy trying to forcefully open the door.
Rushing there he tackled him to the ground , punching him several times; he only stopped when he heard the cries of his daughter getting loud, rushing to her place hugging her and trying to calm her down.
The old woman shouted in some foreign language. Turning he saw the guy from earlier with a knife in his hands, pushing his daughter into the car. He closed the door looking at the guy who kept looking at him, stepping forward the old woman spoke again to the young man who later bowed his head down and left.
Turning around to look at the young man she smiled but he backed away from her a little looking at her suspiciously she smiled again and told him not to worry and to get to safety giving him a paper that contained the address of the house.
Asking why they were all helping him as he was confused she smiled and said one good will can reap you a lot of good fruits, turning around she waved at the little girl who was inside the car smiling with little tears in her eyes nodding at him again she returned to her house.
Getting into the car he started patting his daughter's head before heading out.
Stopping at the motel to rest as it was already night, he took his girl and luggages locking the car. He entered the motel booking a room .
Entering the room he placed his daughter on the bed, sitting beside her he kept staring at her as tears poured down his face this was not the kind of future he wanted for his daughter he never wanted her to be running for her life he saw a bright future with her were they were happy and comfortable just the two of them.
Stuffing his hands into his pocket to check for the address given to him his hands came in contact with an empty pocket looking around trying to search for it.
Deciding to go down to check the car he left the room but not before making sure the door was properly locked.
Getting down he unlocked the car searching it thoroughly for the piece he needed to find it so as to know his next move he wanted to settle down and take care of his child.
Thinking of where it could be, he decided to check under the car rug, opening it. He saw a beeping red light, surprised . He looked at it for a few minutes realizing it was a tracker. He immediately placed the rug back, closing the door rushing towards his room.
Getting there he sat on the couch at the corner putting his head in his hands he felt hopeless again different thought were in his head, he felt useless as if he could not protect his daughter obviously they knew where he was they could come anytime to cause trouble for them again at this thought he panicked getting up to check the window, looking down at the empty street his eyes roaming around trying to search for anyone or anything suspicious.
