Selena's POV
The morning sun streamed through my bedroom window, bathing the lavish room in a warm, orange light. My hand instinctively reached across the large surface of the bed, only to be met with cold, empty sheets. A heavy sigh escaped my lips as I was once again reminded of my husband's prolonged absences.
For the past two months, Alpha Dominic had been away on what he claimed were endless "business trips." I tried to control the growing anger, reminding myself that he was doing what was necessary to provide for our family. And yet, a part of me couldn't help but wonder if there was more to his frequent departures.
Shaking off the thought, I rose from the bed and made my way towards the door. As I climbed down the grand staircase that led to the living room.
The hushed whispers of the maids caught my attention. Pausing to listen, I felt fear and anger flaring in my chest.
"I heard Alpha Dominic wasn't on a business trip at all," one of the servants murmured. "My man said he saw him at a Moonlight hotel the other day, kissing some woman, but he couldn't see her face because of the angle."
The other maid fussed sympathetically. "Poor Luna, she works so hard, thinking the Alpha has gone on a business trip, not knowing he was out there having the time of his life with another woman. Alpha males are something else, they just can't stick to one she-wolf."
Fury flared in my chest, and I turned on the startled servants. "That's enough!" I snapped, my voice echoing through the walls. "How dare you, good for nothing, maids, gossip about your Alpha like that? Do you have any idea what I could do to you?"
The maids trembled, bowing their heads in shame. "W-We are so sorry, Luna," they mumbled. "It won't happen again."
Biting back a mocking reply, I strolled towards the kitchen, my thirst forgotten. But as I walked past my children's room, the sound of high-pitched screaming froze me in my tracks.
Bursting through the door, I found my two youngest daughters, Lily and Rose, entangled in a serious tug-of-war over a doll. The eldest, Anna, was courageously attempting to separate them but to no avail.
"Girls, stop fighting!" I yelled, rushing to intervene. "Rose, you are too old to be fighting over toys with your younger sister. When there are countless toys in this room."
"But this Barbie doll is my favorite out of all of them! I can't let her have it!" Rose replied through clenched teeth.
But as I stepped forward, my foot caught on a naughty throw pillow, and the world tilted sideways. With a heavy thud, I fell to the hard floor, my daughters' terrified screams the last thing I heard before darkness claimed me.

When I opened my eyes, my daughters were gathered anxiously around my bedside, tears streaking their cheeks. The elderly pack doctor stood at the foot of the bed, his expression unreadable.
"What happened?" I rasped, feeling a light headache coming on.
"We are sorry, mom, we won't fight anymore, I promise. I already gave Lily the doll she wanted, please don't fall sick." Rose pleaded, gesturing towards the doll in her little sister's hand.
The doctor stepped forward, clearing his throat. "Um, it's not your daughters' fault, Luna, there is another reason you fainted." He paused, glancing at the girls. "I think it's best we speak privately."
Anna tossed me a bright smile and grabbed her sister's hands, tugging them out of the clinic room, although Lily burst into tears. I braced myself, praying that I didn't have some terminal illness. But no amount of steeling myself could blunt the impact of his next words.
"Congratulations, Luna. You are 12 weeks pregnant." He beamed, handing me the test results.
I stared at him in utter shock, my fingers clutching the medical report like a lifeline. "P-Pregnant?" I stuttered, unable to register the words. "That can't be right. My youngest is only two. There must be some mistake, I can't be pregnant again, please tell me this is a joke."
The doctor shook his head solemnly. "Just to be sure, I ran the test multiple times and double-checked the results. You are with a child, which is a good thing considering how much the Alpha loves children."
My heart pounded louder. I searched his face for any sign that he was joking, but there was none. "But..." I faltered, my voice barely a whisper. "We weren't supposed to have another... Not now, I was the one who wanted to give the Alpha a male child so badly, but he has made it clear that that doesn't matter as long as we love each other and have beautiful girls."
My throat tightened as the whispered rumors of the pack members came rushing back-that Dominic was using me as a "baby-making machine" in search of an heir.
I forced myself to meet the doctor's gaze. "I can't keep this child." My voice trembled, but I steadied myself. "You have to help me... get rid of it, I am asking you as a woman, not as your Luna."
The doctor stepped back, his eyes wide. "Luna, that's not something I can do. Terminating a pregnancy, especially a royal bloodline, would be a sin against the moon goddess. Your husband would rip off my head and feed it to the wild wolves." His voice trailed off, and he continued. "It's not possible, I am sorry."
My anger bounced off the marble with teeth-rattling volume, and I lashed out. "Then get out of my sight!" I hissed, watching as the nervous man gathered his belongings and fled the room.
Alone now, I shoved the blanket off my body and jumped down the bed on shaky legs. My mind was spinning with a million thoughts. Where was my husband? He should be here by now, fussing over my condition, had he not arrived?
Feeling a trace of lightheadedness, I stepped out into the softly lit corridor, my gaze sweeping the area. A group of warriors stood huddled together, their hushed voices hinting at my husband's return. Pushing aside the haunting worries, I made my way towards Dominic's office, my wolf Lena howling with unbridled excitement.
"We get to see our mate after so long!" she yelled, like a child. "We can kiss and cuddle him, how I miss the good old days!"
"I know, I have missed him too," I replied softly, a fond smile tugging at my lips.
But as I approached the office door, the guards stopped me, their expressions serious.
"What do you want, Luna?" one asked gruffly.
I pinned him with a crushing glare. "Who are you to question why I wish to see my own husband?"
Before he could respond, I shoved past him, grasping the ornate doorknob and pushing the door open. There, seated behind his grand reddish-brown desk, sat Dominic, his muscular body draped casually across the chair as he spoke into the phone in his ear.
My breath caught in my throat as I drank in the sight of him-the way the sunlight filtered through the window, setting his golden blonde hair afire, the piercing intensity of his ocean-blue eyes. Even after eight years of marriage, he still had the power to steal my breath away.
But my excitement quickly morphed into anger as I approached the desk, his gaze flickering to meet mine. Ending the call, he offered me an apologetic smile.
"Mrs. Cuddles," he murmured, using the pet name that never failed to make my heart flutter. "I'm sorry I haven't come to check on you. I was trying to solve a problem at the coal factory."
"What could be more important than me?" I shot back, my voice filled with hurt. Steeling my nerves, I stepped forward. "I have something very important to tell you too."
Reaching out, he tugged me into his lap, his warm hands sending tingles down my spine. "What is it, my love?"
I took a steady breath, unsure of how he would react to my news. But before I could speak, a loud thud jolted us both, and we turned to see a young maid collapsed unconscious in the open doorway.
"Maddy!" I cried, leaping from Dominic's hold and rushing to the girl's side. Dominic was close on my heels, his brow furrowed with concern.
Kneeling beside her almost lifeless body, I gently shook her shoulder, my heart pounding. What could have caused her to faint so abruptly? Fear coiled in my stomach as a thousand worst-case scenarios played out in my mind.
Dominic's strong arms encircled me, his voice low and soothing. "Shhh, she will be alright. Let's get her to the infirmary."
Nodding mutely, I allowed him to scoop Madison into his hold, my gaze never leaving her pale, lifeless face.
Selena's POV
I paced anxiously outside the clinic room, my mind consumed by worry for Madison. That young maid was like family to my husband-Dominic had taken her under his wing after the tragic passing of her mother, who had once been his own nursemaid. I had grown to see Madison as the sister I never had.
As the clinic door swung open, the doctor's sad expression sent a chill down my spine. Silently, he ushered me inside, the open window was letting in a gentle breeze. My gaze landed on Madison, her entire body covered beneath the crisp white sheets.
"Maddy?" I called, rushing to her bedside. "What's wrong, you have to tell me, I am here, not just as your guardian, but also your friend."
But instead of answering, she turned pleading eyes towards the pack doctor. "Please don't tell her, it's all my fault, I have been a bad girl." she begged, tears rushing down her pale cheeks.
Ignoring her, I grasped the sheets, pulling them down to reveal Madison's face. Her huge green eyes were red-rimmed, her usually lively locks dulled by pain.
"What's going on?" I pressed, grasping her hand. "What shouldn't he tell me? You know you can tell me anything, if it's bad I promise not to scold you."
The doctor cleared his throat, drawing my attention. "I'm afraid I can't keep this from you, Luna. As one of her guardians, you deserve to know."
Toughening myself, I nodded, bracing for his next words. "Please, tell me," I urged.
"Madison is pregnant."
The announcement hit me like a summer storm, sudden and violent, stealing the breath from my lungs. "Pregnant?" I echoed, disbelief, coloring my tone. "But she doesn't have a mate yet, let alone a boyfriend. How is this possible?"
The doctor's gaze was loaded with pity. "I asked her who the father was, after pestering her for a while, she came clean, the father is-" Madison cut in, before he could finish his speech.
"No, no, don't tell her, please!" she screamed at the top of her lungs, but the doctor didn't listen.
He shook his head, took a deep breath and dropped the bombshell. "I'm afraid the father is...your husband, the Alpha."
For a moment, the world seemed to spin, stealing my breath from my lungs. Surely, this was some twisted nightmare - Dominic would never betray me in such a way. He loved me, cherished me as his Luna.
But Madison's painful sobs told a different story, and as I turned to look at the doctor. "No, that can't be true," I whispered, shaking my head in denial. "That is a really strong accusation, my Dominic would never do that. He loves me, he would never-"
But before I could finish, the sound of approaching footsteps cut me off. I turned to see my mate's face, as he arrived in the clinic doorway, his Beta Luke standing behind him.
Dominic strode towards me, his strong arm encircling my waist, his lips brushing the top of my head. "Mrs. Cuddles, my love. What's going on? Is she alright now?"
The nickname I had so long adored now tasted like ash on my tongue. Pulling away, I met his gaze, my voice trembling. "Madison is pregnant. And she says that...that you are the father of her child."
Time seemed to stand still as Dominic let out a heavy sigh, his expression shifting to one of cold indifference. "Yes, it's true," he stated flatly. "If Madison is with child, then I am the father."
The words cycled my brain like the world's most horrifying mantra, shattering the delicate surface of the life we had built together. "How could you do this to me? To us?" I cried, hot tears streaming down my cheeks.
Dominic's jaw tightened. "It's a necessity, my love," he declared, his tone brooking no argument. "I need to ensure my position as Alpha, to prevent my brother from taking my place, and also your father's pack since we just merged it with mine. And Madison...she may be able to give me what you cannot."
The cruel implication of his words struck me like a knife to the heart. "What I cannot?" I echoed, my voice filled with pain. "You mean a son, an heir? What if I am also pregnant right now, what will you do about it?"
His gaze hardened. "If you are also pregnant, I will tell you to abort the child. I need a male heir to secure my bloodline. I cannot have you birthing only girls, we already have three."
A fresh tear slid down my cheek, the pain of his heartless dismissal of our daughters piercing me to the core. This was not the Dominic I had fallen madly in love with, the man who had sworn he cared not for an heir, only for our family's wellbeing.
Swallowing the lump in my throat, I looked up at him, my heart shattering. "You are a different person now, Dominic," I whispered, my voice hoarse. "Everything you ever told me was a lie, you chose power over us, you stoop so low as to getting a she-wolf who was supposed to be like a sister to you, pregnant, you have absolutely no shame!"
Without a word, he tossed Madison a smile, then turned on his heel and strode from the room, accompanied by his beta. My wolf howled in pain and anguish inside me, I felt my legs buckle, and I crumpled to the floor beside Madison's bed, my tears coming faster now.
The doctor's pitying gaze burned into me, and I knew at that moment that my world had come crashing down. My mate, the man I trusted above all others, had betrayed me in the most heinous of ways. And now, I was left to pick up the shattered pieces of my shattered heart and my shattered life.

The night was pitch black as I tiptoed down the stairs, my luggage dragging behind me with muffled thumps. I needed to get out of this house, away from the man who no longer cherished me, as quickly and quietly as possible.
Reaching the living room, I set the bags down, tiptoeing to my daughters' room. Slowly, I pushed open the door, wincing at the soft creak. The warm spark of the moonlight illuminated their peaceful, sleeping faces.
Swallowing the lump in my throat, I went to the closet, yanking it open. Grabbing one of their storage boxes from the top shelf, I began hastily packing their clothes, shoving them into the awaiting suitcases.
I couldn't - wouldn't - stay here and watch as Dominic entertained the idea of another woman bearing his child. The mere thought sent a fresh wave of pain running through me.
"Mommy?" a small voice called out, and I turned around in fear, only to find Anna, blinking seriously at me.
"What are you doing with our clothes so late at night?" she questioned, her brow furrowed in confusion.
Swallowing nervously, I forced a smile. "We are going on that trip your father and I promised," I lied. "You need to wake your sisters, we have to leave quickly, your father will join us over there."
Anna's expression remained doubtful, but she obeyed, gently waking Lily and Rose from their sleep. As the sleepy girls joined us, I lifted the packed box, dragging it towards the door.
"Follow me," I commanded, my tone brooking no argument.
The girls hurried after me, their small feet slapping against the hardwood as we made our way to the living room. Peeking outside, I hardened my nerves, relief crashing over me at the sight of the empty room.
"Um, mommy, why are we sneaking around?" Rose whispered, her brow knit in confusion.
I shushed her, gripping the second suitcase and pulling it towards the main door. I tugged the door open a little and pushed out one of the bags, but as I reached for the other, a hand caught it from the other side.
My heart nearly jumped out of my chest as I shoved the door open wider, finally seeing the owner of that hand. It was-it was Luke.
I sucked in a sharp breath, my mind racing. What was he doing here, at this hour? Had he caught wind of my plan to leave?
Selena's POV
I froze in my tracks as the girls stood behind me, a silent show of support that tugged at my heartstrings. The beta's gaze settled on the luggage, his brow furrowing.
"Where are you going with all this?" he inquired, his tone filled with suspicion.
Squaring my shoulders, I met his questioning stare head-on. "I'm leaving the packhouse for a while with the girls," I stated, injecting as much confidence into my voice as I could muster.
But Luke was not to be swayed. "Don't lie to me, Seli," he reprimanded. "I am not a child, I know you are trying to run away. Why are you trying to leave? You are supposed to be grateful to Madison that she is trying to help the Alpha with a part of her."
I scoffed, unable to believe his heartless dismissal of my pain. Turning to the children, I placed a hand on each of their shoulders. "Wait here," I said, my voice soft.
With that, I stepped outside, shutting the door firmly behind me until I stood face-to-face with the beta.
"How can you say that?" I accused, my anger bubbling to the surface. "I thought you were my friend, Luke. And yet, you knew my husband was sleeping with Madison, and you didn't think to tell me?"
Luke's expression hardened. "I had to be loyal to my Alpha," he stated flatly. "And this is for a good cause. Stop acting like a spoiled brat and go back to bed. The Alpha is waiting for you."
I recoiled as if struck. "Spoiled brat? How would you feel if your husband of eight years went and got someone else pregnant without telling you? Why am I telling you this anyway? You would never understand my pain!" I declared, my voice trembling with barely restrained anger. "I'm leaving with my daughters, and there is nothing you can do to stop me. I don't want to be his Luna anymore, I want a divorce. My lawyer is going to serve him the papers in the morning."
The beta's eyes narrowed. "The Alpha is going to hear from your lawyer in the morning, is that it?" he mocked. "Why don't you save yourself the stress and just go back to your room? He still loves you; he is just doing what is best for the Knightstorm pack."
I shook my head hotly. "He doesn't value or want me anymore," I snapped. "Now get out of my way."
Turning on my heel, I pushed the door back open, ushering the children outside. But as I caught sight of their confused, frightened expressions, my determination faltered.
"It's going to be okay," I murmured, forcing a reassuring smile. "We are just leaving a little earlier than expected."
The girls walked forward, and I grabbed the remaining luggage, hurrying them along. But as we reached the main gate of the packhouse, Luke reappeared, his large body blocking our path. A team of warriors surrounded him, their expressions ugly.
"You all need to go back inside," the beta commanded. "Seli, you of all people should know the Alpha still loves you. Madison will just be his mistress and the mother of his heir."
I glared at him, my fury circling in my core. "I demand you get out of my way!" I yelled. "I am the Luna, you can't treat me like a goddamn prisoner!"
But the warriors refused to budge, their stubborn stances an undefeatable wall. When I tried to push past them, one of the men shoved me back, and I tumbled to the floor with a heavy thud.
The girls crowded around me, their cries filling the air. "Mommy, what's happening?" Lily wept, her eyes burning with tears.
Sitting up, I pinned the stiff warriors with an arrogant glare. It was laughable how quickly they had turned their backs on me, forgetting that I was not just their Luna but a co-owner of this pack.
Taking a steady breath, I scooped Lily into my arms, rocking her gently. "It's okay, my darling," I murmured, wiping the tears from her cheeks. "The trip is just delayed, that's all."
But inwardly, I was seething. I had to find a way out of this imprisonment, even if no one would let me leave. Sparing one last, anguished glance at Luke, I rose to my feet, leading the girls back into the packhouse.
***
A sharp pain pierced my chest, jolting me awake. Clutching at my heart, I sat up in bed, Lily sleeping calmly beside me. The room was covered in the soft spark of morning light-I must have slept longer than I intended.
Lena howled in anguish inside me. "Our mate is with another woman!" she cried, her voice hoarse. "We must find out what he is up to, the pain is too much!"
Slipping on my flip-flops, I climbed out of the bedroom, the sound of a violin filling my ears. As I stepped into the living room, my heart clenched at the sight before me.
The spacious area was filled with pack members of high rank, all seated around someone on the couch. Gifts were piled high, and the musicians abruptly stopped playing as I approached.
I could hear the voices now-Mrs. Clair, my mother-in-law, was speaking in a worshipful tone.
"You will never lack anything in life, my dear," she proclaimed, her gaze fixed on someone seated on the sofa. "As the one who will soon bless our pack with an heir, I will ensure you are well cared for."
My breath caught in my throat as I recognized the woman-Madison. She was dressed in a beautiful white dress and had a flowery crown on her head, as if she was the Luna. Dominic's large hand was resting protectively on her flat stomach, beaming with pride.
"I just knew this child would be as beautiful as its mother and as strong as me," he declared, pressing a gentle kiss to Madison's pale cheek.
A pretty blush bloomed on her cheeks, and my wolf groaned in anger, the pain piercing through my chest, leaving me paralyzed. No one seemed to notice my presence, except for Madison, whose green eyes widened as they landed on me.
"S-Selena!" She gasped, drawing every gaze in the room to me.
Dominic's expression shifted to one of minor surprise. "I didn't think you'd join the celebration, given how angry you were," he commented casually. "But I'm glad to see you have come to your senses."
I scoffed, struggling to shove down the anger and hurt that threatened to spill over. "It's nice to see that the pack members have chosen their new Luna," I bit out, my voice breaking with a sob. "I suppose I was just a placeholder since I couldn't provide an heir."
Dominic opened his mouth to respond, but I cut him off. "My lawyer will be here shortly," I declared, the tears I'd fought so hard to contain now streaking down my cheeks. "Don't forget to sign the divorce papers."
With that, I fled, racing back towards the refuge of my daughters' room. I pressed my back against the hard door, willing Dominic to give chase and try and stop me. But the betraying sound of his footsteps faded, and I slid to the floor, my tears leaking harder now, and I was gagging and choking myself.
The image of Dominic and Madison, blissfully satisfied, tormented me. I hated myself for still loving him and for clinging to the man I had once known.
A small hand on my shoulder drew my gaze upward, and I found Anna's innocent eyes watching me with concern. "Mommy, don't cry," she soothed. "Everything is going to be okay, just like you always say."
I pulled her into a tight hug, my heart swelling with love for my children. They were my world, my reason for being. And in that moment, I knew what I had to do.
Removing myself from Anna's hold, I turned to Lily and Rose, who had now joined us. "My little princesses, we are going on that trip today, and dad isn't going to be joining us," I announced, grabbing the only suitcase that had been returned.
As I ushered them out of the room, the noise from the living room faded into the background. Everyone was too preoccupied with gushing over Madison to notice our departure. This was my chance.
Hurrying across the courtyard, I made my way to the garage, my eyes landing on Dominic's prized sports car, his favorite one. A warrior stood nearby, cleaning the sleek car with a cloth.
"The keys, please," I demanded, holding out my hand.
The warrior hesitated. "But the Alpha didn't-"
Before he could finish, I snatched the keys from his grasp. "I'm taking this car," I declared, brooking no argument.
Ushering the girls into the backseat, I slid behind the steering wheels, taking a deep breath. As I started the engine, my gaze caught sight of Dominic, running towards us, his face filled with concern.
"Where the hell are you going?!?" he shouted, pounding on the trunk of the car.
"We are leaving you," I replied, my voice filled with pain. "Since you no longer want us in your life, don't forget to have fun with your new Luna, and please treat her better."
"What nonsense are you saying? Get out of that car now that I am asking nicely!" He barked like a bulldog as I rolled up the window, muffling his voice.
With that, I drove through the open gate, my daughters casting one last look at their father. "Why is Daddy so angry?" Anna inquired, her brow furrowed.
I offered no response, my focus only on the empty streets outside. I had to get my daughters to safety, away from this toxic environment and the man who had so heartlessly betrayed us.
