"It was already morning," but this one was different, "looking out the window and onto the snow-smudged grounds of my favorite place, the place that held irreplaceable memories of my family, both good and bad."
"I couldn't sleep all night," I stayed awake fantasizing about what life would look like when we finally leave this place, "this hell hole".
"I was eager for the next day to come and now the day has come and I wasn't sure if I wanted to leave my home, "I took my first baby steps here."
"Standing in front of the room I've always spent most of my time, my comfort zone, " looking over to my veiled vanity.
"I haven't dared to look into the mirror in a long time in fear that I might see my worst nightmare staring at me," three years is a long time but still, I could not get over the mess he made, why would I look at myself in the mirror when I knew how much I looked like him I was not going to torture myself like that.
"Mum had become a mess," a shadow of herself since that night, the night the cops came requesting to See Daddy.
"I had come downstairs for a snack just to see him in cuffs," I demanded an explanation and begged him to say something to me, I begged him to look into my eyes but he didn't.
"And that was the last day I saw him. He used to be my hero. Now I doubt any of that existed and that alone traumatizes me. People change I get, so it is what it is.
"After all the investigations on the serial rapist case were done, all evidence led to him, and there was nothing we could do, he was guilty therefore mum had forbade me from visiting him not as I could anyway, she was so heartbroken that she went into false labor and lost her baby, my brother.
"Mum had resulted to drowning herself in her work we barely saw each other," and even though we lived under the same roof we were distant, she was always gone before I woke up and back late at night when I was asleep, she worked extra hours for us, she said but I knew better that it was all to escape reality.
"Dad was convicted for allegedly defiling young teenagers of both genders," so it took us surprise since Dad strongly criticized rape.
Luckily we'd be moving to Calgary today, "to start a new life," a better one since the whole neighborhood avoided us like a plague.
"We'd be happy somewhere no one knew us, hopefully, Mum would go on dates, find love and be happy she is still young and healthy anyways."
"Walking out the entrance door and I walked straight ahead to the Uber without looking back.
"The drive to the airport was slow and the silent mum never talked much. I wasn't one to love conversations so I wasn't going to start one even if I craved it.
"Rin? Rin? " I heard Mum calling, instantly jolting me out of my thoughts.
"Yes Mum, go on," I said, hurriedly because anytime she called my name I was always eager for the few words she was willing to grace me with.
"Okay so, did you tell your friends we'd be moving today?" She said, looking at me briefly.
"Yes I did, and they'd be waiting for us at the airport," I said running my hands through my hair.
"Okay, that's great, she said, focusing on the road.
"I had three friends, Sophia, my best friend since kindergarten, Isabella the over-reactive friend, and Brand, my right-hand man. He was always there for me when I needed him. He protected me when the students were throwing things at me in the hallway.
"They were the three best friends a girl could ever ask for, they stayed close to me when I was getting threatening letters in my locker.
"Turning my attention to Mum, her shoulder-length hair framed her face complementing her sharp jawline, passionate green eyes that could see through you, her perfect round nose, pink plump lips, and wide hips that scream elegance.
Somehow even amid her troubles, she managed to look as fresh as a daisy.
Probably one of the reasons that made Dad attracted to her.
"They had met in high school, and apparently, their love became stronger, they started scheduling a future together, and they both chose to attend The Oxford University so they wouldn't be away from each other even though Mum's parents didn't approve of it, having got married in their final year and gave bath to me two years later.
"Dad being a medical doctor and mum a nurse," his license was seized after he was proven guilty of serial rape.
"I've been left to ponder on how many times he had stalked me in my room at night imagining I was one of his numerous victims. "How badly does he wish to hurt me?"
"I can't come to terms with the fact that I lived with the monster that I and everyone else out there are scared of. The reason I never went out late, the serial rapist that had been wanted for a year, was my sorry excuse of a father.
"I'd be lying if I said he wasn't a good actor. Those times I'd catch him staring at me while I slept. He'd claim he wanted to make sure I was alright.
"He even taught me how to fight. He said his dad was military personnel so he was taught how to fight and he wanted to teach me too, "so you can defend yourself" were his words.
I wanted answers to why he did it and why he'd hurt them, but I came to one conclusion: he developed a sinful craving.
"It has been three years now since Dad's been put behind bars, Mum's family decided they wanted nothing to do with us, they never liked him anyways.
"Mum hummed as we reached the airport.
"I sighted Sophie, Isabella, and Brand were in the waiting area.
"Mum, they are here look over there," I said, pointing at the trio.
"Okay let's get these bags in motion" so we can go meet them Mum said.
"Omg Rin I'm gonna miss you," she said, crying I don't even know what to say right now.
" Rin make sure you call me once you've settled in okay?" And call me if you need anything, financial support just name it, take care of yourselves for me okay? And Rin promise me you'd tell me once you've got yourself a guy Sophie said as she was on the verge of crying.
"I Rin Hagar promise to tell you all of the juicy juicy gists," I said, laughing at my bestie's emotional display.
"Don't forget to call me when you get there Rin," Isabella scolded.
"Sure," I said, hugging her I'm gonna miss this, I whispered, squeezing her slender body.
"I love your ass Rin," Brand said, grinning.
"You are an asshole," I said, frowning.
Finally, "we settled on the plane ready to leave for good."
"Closing my eyes to take a nap there was never anything to talk about with Mum since Dad," we've been different, or should I say distant people, both a slave to the dad sins, I thought drifting to Lala land.

"Hello boss," said a shaky voice.
"What is it boy?" The boss replied sounding pissed.
"There is a problem," he said, stammering.
"Get to the point," The boss said curtly.
"They are moving to Calgary," he said, relaxing a bit when he heard no reply.
"And there was a sudden scream from the background followed by the sound of objects shattering.
"Find them, follow them I want Intel on every mousse that enters their mouths, where they are at every second, every minute, and every hour of the day, or else I'll have your head on a stake for not letting me know soon enough."
"Sure boss," I will be taking the next flight to Calgary and I won't mess it up.
"You better not! His boss said curtly as he hung up the phone."
"It's my first day at the university. I had done all the necessary things yesterday.
I'll be having a physics lecture this morning in about 5 minutes."
"Rushing over to my locker, dumping the books I was holding, and picking the necessary ones out and into my little backpack."
"Rushing into the busy hallway of the physics hall, the small walk to the double doors was a struggle with scholars running around."
" It felt like almost everyone was late for a class or maybe it was just the lazy freshmen."
"I checked my time and I was 9 minutes late, shrugging my shoulders and heading for the door. I paused and gave the door two light knocks courtesy demands I came late so I can't just barge in like a crazed animal.
"Pushing the door open and as expected I got all eyes on me. Having about a hundred eyes on just one person is terrifying, cringing internally in my spot at the door."
" Come on in Dear I'm Mrs. Bergen," your physics lecturer, the young brunette said smiling at me warmly, no I'm not buying that facade.
"That's great, can I sit now?" I asked, keeping a neutral expression and tapping my foot continuously on the floor.
"Yes, you can sit after you grace us an introduction Mrs. Bergen challenged with a little frown on her lips."
" Uh, oh Hi class I'm Rin Hagar we just moved here from Toronto I said casually while looking at my fingernails as if they were the most interesting thing in the whole plentiful Earth."
"Is there anything more you'd like to say?" Mrs. Bergen said, making me lose my shit.
"Yes, I do have something to say, Mrs. Bergen," I replied with a devious smirk.
"Go on, Mrs. Bergen," said, adjusting her glasses.
"I just think it is funny, how you all don't get the cue to close unwanted conversations," I said, raising my voice a little.
"You know what Rin Hagar?" Mrs. Bergen said, walking close to me.
"No, tell me," I said, not willing to back down.
"Well, I just think it is funny how you are a messed-up and nasty kid," now go sit your Nazarian ass down Mrs. Bergen spat through gritted teeth.
"Nice meeting you too Mrs. Bergen," I said, grinning.
"Meet me in my office after class," I heard her say before I walked away with a smug smile to the last row at the end of the hall.
"Somehow, amidst my raging thoughts," I managed to scribble a reasonable amount of words onto my notebook.
"I know I was rude for no reason there but it was my only defense mechanism," I've always had stage fright that was the only thing I could do to stop myself from crying.
"They say every day of your life the devil will send somebody to annoy you."
"I guess today is my lucky day because he decided to send an angel of his to me," if you know what I mean.
"Hey newbie," a blonde pink-haired girl called, sashaying her way over to me.
"I ignored her, squirreling away my belongings into my bag.
"Well, I know you can hear me because this is not a school for the disabled she said, flipping her hair."
"What do you want?" I asked curtly.
"I just think it is funny, how you pop up from God knows where and try to take the Queen's place she said, emphasizing the word Queen."
"Well, I do think it is funny how you never grew up after high school. I said walking over to stand in front of her."
"You are not the one to talk, your display earlier was totally out of character, absolutely immature," she said, smirking.
"At least I know how to mind my business," I said, moving a step further.
"I'll give you advice," just walk away quietly. She replied not willing to back off.
"I was about to walk away until the devil sent you to me, " I said, frowning my face.
"What the fuck bitch?" She said, raising her hand to slap me.
"Well, you will drop down that little hand of yours because I wouldn't mind dislocating that pretty little thing since you don't know how to use it properly, perhaps you might need a lesson, " I said looking her dead in the eyes.
"I'm the Queen, you don't talk to me like that, girls? Say something, are you all gonna stand there? And watch her disrespect me. She yelled in anger and frustration but none of them dared to speak.
"A Queen is not intimidated by her subjects," I said, smirking at her.
"One of the girls was about to say something until someone interrupted.
"What's going on here cowgirls," the dark-haired boy said.
"Well, it seems like drama and more drama," I said slowly, and from the corner of my eyes, I saw him spare me a glance before returning his attention to Miss blond hair.
"What's going on here, Tatiana? He said, looking between us.
"So this blonde demon is Tatiana? Such a beautiful name for an ugly soul I thought nodding my head.
"Well uh, you see I was just welcoming her to our school, " she said nervously.
"I see clearly, " the dark-haired boy said, frowning while looking at those demons.
"Since you are here we can forget about her, so would you like to come to my party tonight? She asked, wrapping her arms around him, how do girls do these things shamelessly?
"Uh, oh guys, am I supposed to stand here and watch this blonde demon lie and wrap her hands around Mr uh black hair or whatever the heck it is I said looking very much unbothered.
"Well, point of correction, I'm Ethan and you are? He said, raising his brow at me.
"I'm Rin," I replied, rolling my eyes.
"And what do you mean about Tatiana lying?" Ethan said, looking at me intensely.
"Ask your girlfriend, dear Ethanol," I said, picking my backpack up.
"It's not Ethanol! And back to you Tatiana, don't you ever touch me like that. It was a one-time thing and you know the rules. It can't occur twice.
"Okay, since there won't be a fight, permit me to excuse myself. I have better things to attend to, I said, laughing my ass out.
" I've wasted so much time, thanks to demon Tatiana but thinking about it now I could have just walked away.
"I kept asking every student around for Mrs. Bergen's office until I finally got to the brown door then took a deep breath before turning the knob.
"You are late Miss Hagar Mrs. Bergen says, dropping the book onto her desk with a loud stud.
"It is not an appointment," I said, shrugging my shoulders and turning around to look at her.
"And who said it wasn't? Mrs. Bergen asked with a strained smile.
"We didn't schedule a time," I said, frowning.
"I told you to come to my office immediately after class. She said letting out a snort.
"Will you keep on arguing with me or let me know why I'm here? I said, scoffing.
"Apologize to me Miss Hagar," she said snorting.
"I was intending to apologize. All you had to do was keep quiet. Look I acted out of character and I'm sorry, your persistence made me lose my shit and you should work on that too.
"That is not an appropriate apology Mrs. Bergen said, drumming her fingers on the table.
"Whatever go fuck yourself I said turning to walk out of her office pissed.
"I know who you are, Rin Hagar, I know what you are hiding but whether I tell someone depends on you, act nice and we're safe, " she said, smirking.
"And oh have a nice day," she added, laughing.
"Have a nice fucking day to you nazi bitch I said, smiling deviously while waving my phone at her.
"Try blackmailing me again and if you'll excuse me, I have a lecture to attend," I added before sashaying out of her office.
"Back at Mrs. Bergen's office.
"Mrs. Bergen could be seen throwing things around. How could she be this sloppy to let a little kid outsmart her? She has put so much work into this but it is a good thing that Rin doesn't know her real identity yet and it was only a time before she did, the kid is an Inquisitive one, all she had to do was get her phone as soon as possible.
"Paying off the cab driver and walking to the front door I unzipped my bag to grab my keys. Once I found the keys my hand kept fumbling with the metals before I finally opened the door and hurriedly slammed the door shut behind me.
"I had a bad feeling that someone was watching me and I had to get inside as fast as I could. It could be Mrs. Bergen stalking me.
"I strolled into the sitting room and quietly found my way past the kitchen and over to the staircase to avoid disturbing Mum and partly because I was too exhausted to talk.
"Rin, is that you? I heard Mum holler from the kitchen.
"Yes mum I'm the one, " I replied feeling dazed, hazed, and lazed to the core.
"I wanna speak to you, " she said, coming out of the kitchen covered in flour.
"Okay, go on," I said leaning on the rails of the staircase.
"So uh, I was thinking we could go out to the cinema tomorrow evening and have some mother-and-daughter time, so what do you think? She said, rubbing her palms together.
"Well, I think that it is a great idea. I said grinning from ear to ear.
"Great, so you go up there and have a nice hot bath, dress up, and come back down because we have some shopping to do, she said, dancing her way to the kitchen.
"Mum, why are we shopping? I shouted running up the stairs.
"Oh, I forgot to add something. She shouted back.
"What is it? I shouted back, stopping once I got to the top of the stairs.
"I'd be hosting a little welcoming party for myself and I'd be inviting a few of my colleagues. I hope you don't mind, she yelled.
"No no Mum I don't mind at all. It's been a while since you've been around friends. I think it's a great start. I said, faking a laugh.
"Even if I did mind it wouldn't change anything, after all, she didn't tell me anything before making her decision, I think it is a risky step to take now that Mrs. Bergen knows about Dad although her intentions are not clear to me. Plus I didn't want her to feel bad.
"Walking to my room and turning the knob before pushing the door open, I walked in dropping my bag on my bed before striping off all my clothes and making my way over to the bathroom, filling my tub with hot water, I released my hair from the ponytail before sinking my sore muscles into the steaming water.
" After relaxing my sore for a while I decided to scrub myself before I catch a cold.
"Getting out of the tub and wrapping my robe around me I headed for my wardrobe, picking out an easy outfit accompanied by my coat.
"I was already dressed and heading downstairs ready to head out.
"Mum, mind if I grab some snacks before we head out? I asked in the kitchen.
"Yeah, go on, I made some meatballs, here have some," she said, sliding the plate to me and nudging me to sit on the stool.
"Thanks, ma'am, " I said, walking over to the fridge to fill my glass with some milk.
"You are welcome honey and be fast, " she said, walking out of the kitchen.
"Sure mum, I said, stuffing my mouth with the meatball.
"Mum, I'm ready," I said, dropping the dirty dishes into the sink and wiping my mouth with the napkin.
"Meet me outside, she yelled.
"Slamming the front door shut and walking over to meet Mum.
"Our ride is here," she said, walking to the black Camry.
"The ride to the mall was awkward, to say the least. The driver was a total weirdo. He kept asking questions that he wasn't supposed to. It almost seemed like he knew us.
"At the mall, Mum kept making me try out different dresses. This is reckless spending. I already have enough clothes to last me a decade and I can not keep quiet and watch her make us go bankrupt.
"Mum, I'm worried you'd spend all your life savings on these things. The stocks here are quite pricey and they won't cut us a deal, I said, greasing my forehead as a result of my worry.
"Uuhhh baby, you don't need to get angry about that, " she said, smiling at me.
"Well if you say so," I said, faking a smile.
"We were done shopping and now at the ice cream place, I had one chocolate ice cream and Mum got one strawberry ice cream.
"Mum, I think we should get going. We have to go get ready for the party. I said, drumming my nails on the table.
"Don't worry about that Rin I've ordered food from the closest restaurant she said scrolling through her phone looking unperturbed.
"Mum, is this all from your savings? I don't want to seem nosey but I'm worried we've been spending too much lately and I have to wait till the second year for my internship and you have way too many bills to settle already I said panicking.
"And about that Rin, I got a gift from a male friend of mine she said blushing
"A friend? What friend the last time I checked knew all your friends and you didn't keep any male friends. So what's the gift about? I inquired about turning cold.
"He is a new friend and he gave me a credit card we met at the hospital and he owns a company," Mum said dreamily.
"Mum, you need to be careful. I mean you just met him today and he has given you a credit card already? Did he forget about the universal rule that said never give a lady your credit card? I know you are a hot girl but Isn't it suspicious? How sure are you that he is not like Dad? I said with a scrunched face.
"I know I made a grave mistake bringing Dad up but we were gonna have this conversation, eventually and there is no better time than now.
"Rin I'm an adult, I know what I'm doing besides he is only a friend and I wouldn't let things get out of hand. You need to understand that I would never want to put you in harm's way, and he might just be our destiny helper Mum said calmly.
"Mum don't get me wrong, I want you out on dates and whatever but I don't want you to get hurt. I just think it is too early for romance, I said, nodding my head sideways.
"I understand but I don't want you to live in fear all your life, that is why we moved here, I did it for you," she said, stretching out her hand to hold my hands.
"No Mum I think you did it for yourself I said through gritted teeth.
"Come off it kid, I'm an adult and I can do what I want with my life. She said yelling and the chattering in the mall stopped, everyone had turned their attention to us. I know I was supposed to feel embarrassed but I felt anger.
"Do what you want with your life but not to my detriment, be reckless but not to my detriment. I yelled looking at her in pure rage.
"Look baby, you need to trust me, " she said, trying to calm the storm.
"No, I get it now, I said, nodding my head.
"Let's go home, she said, scratching the back of her neck, something she always did when she was nervous.
"The ride back home was quite awkward. I kept ignoring Mum. I wasn't in the mood to talk. I just needed my space to figure it out.

"Slamming the front door shut with my leg proceeding for the stairs, reaching the top of the stairs I walked straight to my room dumping the shopping bags on my bed but something feels out of place in my room the window was open and snowy footprints were leading from the window to my side drawers I never left my window open whoever was in here left not long ago.
"Why would anyone other than Mrs. Bergen want to sneak into my room? Brushing the thought off and heading for my bathroom to clean up.
"After I was done dressing I headed to Mum's room.
"Hey, mum you in? I said softly knocking on the door.
"Come in, she said, flinging the door open.
"Uh, mum I just wanted to apologize. My behavior was totally out of character. I shouldn't have yelled at you, I said, rubbing my palms together.
"You know what I got you Rin and it is fine she said tapping my chicks.
"Thanks, Mum, can I borrow your makeup? I muttered changing the topic.
"No, you can't, she said, putting her hand below her chin.
"Why can't I? I asked, pouting my lips.
"Because I'll be doing the Magic on your face, now sit," she said pulling out a chair to back the mirror.
"Did you know? I asked with teary eyes.
"I always made sure to check on you before I went to work, so yes I knew that you always covered the mirror, now tell me why you always covered your mirror? she asked, opening her makeup box.
"I had constant nightmares when dad was imprisoned, anytime I looked in the mirror I always saw him. I looked so much like him at that point I wanted nothing more than to change my face.
"I'm sorry that you had to go through all that alone, why didn't you think of telling me? She said, raising her well-carved brow at me.
"You were never at home," I said, in a hushed tone.
"I'm gonna make up for that, I promise honey," she said, squeezing my shoulders.
"About 40 minutes later we were done with the makeup and we were ready for the night
"The doorbell rang, it is gonna be a long night, " I said to Mum as I headed for the door.

"Yes boss, you asked me to come to your office, " the ginger head man said standing at the door post.
"Yeah yeah, I know Vincent so sit and tell me what Brian is up to the boss said drumming," his pen on the table.
"Well turns out that there is going to be a party tonight and I could get in for you," Vincent said smiling.
"That's a good one there Vin but I'm afraid you won't be able to continue, " the boss said smiling.
"I didn't say I was resigning," Vin said anxiously.
"You are too sloppy kid and I can't risk it," the boss said, cocking his gun and pointing at Vincent.
