Archie POV
"Archibald Wright, pay attention to your mother" - I hear my father's sharp voice, and it brings me back to reality. These family dinners are always annoying. I look around, and everyone has their eyes on me. Great. I lower my eyes, and I start fiddling with my glass.
"Sorry, mother", - I let out while I take my scotch glass to my mouth, and I realise it is empty. I click my fingers and point at my glass while one of the servants brings the bottle and pours some more.
"Leave the bottle", - I say, and automatically mother coughs, catching the servant's attention and shakes her head. I offer her a small smile, and I can see her face change from fear from my mother to the warmth I cause her.
I can't deny that she is one of my favourites. Every time these dinners drag more than I would like, I end up having some fun in the dry store around the corner from the kitchen with one of the many girls my mother keeps hiring and firing from this house.
"It is time for you to settle down, son", - mother says, and I can't help but roll my eyes.
"Will you put that glass down?" - Mother says with an annoyed tone that brings chills down my spine. I put my scotch glass on the table and focus my attention on my mother's face.
"Look at Oscar", - she says, pointing at my cousin that is sitting across the table from me with his perfect wife and perfect family. Gag. He's more of a son to them than I ever was.
"I am not Oscar mother", - I let out while I take another sip from my drink, and I can see that she is about to explode on how red her face has turned.
"I can see that", - she says, scolding me and taking a sip of her white wine.
"It is time for you to settle down, bring some honour to this family and take your rightful place by my side at the company", - Father says, and for once, he caught my attention. That's what I have been working hard all these years, keeping my head down and doing what is asked of me.
"What are you saying?" - I ask, moving my eyes between my parents and mother smiles. I hate when she does that, she has something in mind, and I know I won't get away from it.
"We have a perfect girl for you, and you shall date and propose to her as soon as possible if you want to become the next CEO of our company", - Father says with his dry and monotone voice.
'Why would I marry someone I've never met?" - I let out, looking at my father.
And that is how I ended up wrapped up with Leticia. She is a Brazilian bomb introduced by my mother at one of her many dinner parties to find me a wife. I couldn't help not falling for her. She is beautiful and has an amazing body. Obviously, Josh hates her guts, and she's not very fond of him either.
We have been together for four months, and my parents have been putting pressure on me to propose, I know it's fast, but she is the perfect woman for me. She knows how to behave at dinners, and she definitely knows how to dress and impress everyone she needs to.
Her beautiful round brown eyes drive me crazy, and I can't wait to be married to this woman. Leticia rolls her eyes as soon as she sees josh arriving at the party.
"This is a first" - she sighs.
"Joshua Green attending a party alone", - Leticia says, looking around and smiling at some important people that walk past us.
Josh offers me his hand to shake, and after that, he approaches Leticia giving her half a kiss on her cheek.
"There's too many fish in the sea, and I want to go fishing", - Josh says to Leticia, who looks at me annoyed. I can't help but chuckle. Josh is openly gay, and he has no problem in saying what comes into his mind. My parents don't particularly like him because of his sexual preference. What can I say? My family is too conservative for my taste. My family endures Josh because he comes from a long line of British aristocrats, which looks good on my family relations.
Josh refused to attend the party, but I convinced him to come around with the pretence of free alcohol and high society males still in the closet for him to have some fun. Most of these posh men have a hidden desire to try another man, and I hear the conversations in the inner circle of the yacht club I am a part of.
It's hard work to try and please your best friend and girlfriend when they hate each other. Today is our engagement party. I will be proposing to Leticia with the family heirloom ring. It is a ring that doesn't have one diamond, it has seven carved onto a beautiful green emerald. Leticia's eyes almost fell out of their sockets when she first saw them.
Obviously, mother showed it to her and resized it before the party so it wouldn't look odd on her finger as soon as I propose. I'm not too fond of public speeches, and today is taking a toll on my mental health. I keep getting refilled glasses of scotch from the waiters that walk around serving drinks. Leticia has already given me a dirty look to stop, but I honestly can't.
I do like her, but I don't know if I am ready to abdicate my bohemian lifestyle for her. But unfortunately, I have no say on the matter.
"Archie", - Leticia says in my ear, bringing me back to the party
"Yes, love?" - I ask, looking at her
Leticia's eyes lock on mine.
"It is time, sweetheart" - she says, and I look around, and I see my Father looking at us from afar. I clear my throat, and the music comes to an abrupt end, and I take the ring box from the small pocket of my Tuxedo. This is it. No running away now.
I lock eyes with Josh, and I can see the sadness in them. I lower my gaze, and I take a deep breath positioning myself onto one knee.
Leticia POV
Archie mumbles a few words nervously while he's standing on one knee proposing to me, but I honestly ignore what he is saying. I can only look at the ring in his hand, and once he slides it onto my finger, I feel how heavy it is, and my heart flutters with happiness. I can even say I felt as if I was about to cry.
I am engaged to Archibald Wright, the heir of the Wright fortune. He will be the sole heir of everything if he complies with marrying me. I couldn't be happier right now. After placing a kiss on my finger where the ring is, Archie stands up, and I hug him pulling him into a soft kiss. He wraps his long arms around my waist and pulls me closer to him. My heart is beating faster than usual, and he can feel it.
"Are you feeling okay, princess?" - he asks, placing a small kiss on the tip of my nose.
He knows how much I hate when he does that, but today is the happiest day of my life so far, so I won't argue with him.
"Just happy", - I say, offering him one of my biggest smiles.
I look at my hand, and I can't help but to touch the ring. One by one, his family members come to congratulate us, first his mother that is completely endeared by my personality and then his father. Mr Wright is the sexiest man I have ever seen. Archie looks a lot like him with his tall frame and slender light blue eyes. If Archie ages like his father, he will be a daddy soon enough. Archie has a bigger frame than his father, and you can see that he works out and is careful with what he eats.
Oliver and Mary come to congratulate us. She gives me a tight hug, and I hug her back. I know we will be the biggest of friends. She is a little simple, but I can change that; nothing like a good shopping spree.
Josh soon congratulates us, and I put on a fake smile, as fake as his. I can see him hugging Archie, and I know that he doesn't want us to get married. He would have Archie if he could if Archie were gay. Good thing for me that he isn't and only has eyes for me. Josh approaches me and pulls me into a hug.
"Gold digger whore", - He whispers in my ear, offering a smile to everyone watching us, including Archie.
"Fuck you, you faggot", - I whisper back in anger
We stop hugging, and he walks away, giving place to other people that are now waiting to congratulate us on this amazing day. I look at Archie, and he looks distracted. What the hell.
I slide my hand onto him, and I squeeze it slightly. He looks at me and offers me a smile going back to chatting with the people around us.
The party is a massive hit, and all the papers and magazines are covering the event. It's not every day that Archibald Wright gets engaged, after all.
His mother rented and had everything decorated perfectly for tonight, and I will have to have a word with her for the wedding. I have specific things that I want, and I know that she will try and fight them back. She will talk about tradition and how it's always been like that, but I want my wedding to be my wedding.
People start leaving from the party, and we are the last ones to stand around. Josh left with someone for one more nightstand. I don't know how Archie puts up with his nonsense. He is such a bad influence on Archie. After we get married, I will find a way of getting Josh out of the way for good. I can't stand being around him.
"Ready to go, princess?" - Archie asks, and I nod my head. I have taken off my shoes, and I offer him a small smile, and he knows what I want. He walks to me and picks me up bridal style. I carry my shoes in one hand, and I wrap my other arm around his neck, keeping me in place.
Archie is a sexy man, and I see all the women looking at him. They all wished to be in my place. He has one problem. He drinks too much, and he was a horrible womaniser before he met me. I am his salvation, and I can live with that.
The driver opens the door in front of the Limo, and Archie places me inside carefully. I slide to the other side, and he sits next to me, grabbing his phone from the inside of his Tux jacket.
"What are you doing?" - I ask while he scrolls through his phone.
"Just reading some news", - he replies without looking at me.
"Archie, it's our engagement night, and you are more worried about the news than you are about me", - I let out. I like his attention all on me when we are together. I don't want him looking around.
"Sorry princess, this is important", - He says, and I take a deep breath crossing my arms in front of my chest and looking out of the window.
I realise that the driver is taking me home. Why is he taking me home? Why am I not going back to Archie's flat?
"Where are we going?" - I ask, pretending I do not realise what he was doing.
"Taking you home?" - Archie says
"But, I thought we would spend the night together" - I let out frustrated. I need him to get me pregnant and fast. So we can speed up the wedding.
"Sorry, Love, I have really early meetings tomorrow, and I know you hate waking top early, so I thought you would sleep better in your own bed", - Archie says
"You're lying to me, Archie", - I let out. I know he's got something else planned.
"Is there another woman in your house? Is that it?" - I ask, now annoyed at him.
"Of course not. Are you crazy? I just thought you would like to sleep in your own bed," - Archie says, but I don't believe him.
"Stay with me then", - I say
"Baby, please" - he looks at me
"Archibald, you either stay with me, or I go with you", - I let out, giving him the option.
"I'll stay", - he says, opening the door for us to get out of the car.
Joshua POV
Today is my best friend engagement party, and I still can't believe that the idiot is marrying Leticia. I wouldn't say I like her guts. She's a gold digger, and I am the only one that can see it. Even his family is all in love with her. Especially his mother and father. They were the ones that introduced her to him at one of their big parties to find Archie, a wife.
Archie has always done everything that his parents asked him to do. He always ends up drinking too much to get away from his family's pressure. I remember the exact day when we met. Boarding school, year five. We were both young and naive. He thought his parents were doing that for his own good, while I knew that mine was doing it to me as a punishment for all the wrong things I was doing.
Archie was always a goodie two shoes but then with me by his side, and he got into trouble a few times getting his parents to get upset that we were friends, the only thing that worked for me was my money and family status, those guys only think about money and power. For a while, Archie thought about leaving everything behind and become a painter. That's his dream. But his family put more pressure on him than I thought, and now.... He is getting married to that witch.
As I finish getting myself ready and checking myself in the mirror, I see how good I look. I smile and wink at my own reflection in the mirror. My phone beeps, and I look at it. I've got a message from Charlie, and I've been talking to him for a while now. He is in a band, so he is not in London at the moment. They are touring around Europe.
I've never heard about that band before, but then again, that is not my scene. I bet Archie has heard about them, but it is too soon to bring Charlie into the conversation. I don't even know what is going on between us yet. We haven't met in person; we've only been texting and video-chatting. He is like a Greek God. Long hair, beard, blue eyes ripped as fuck.
I shake my head and close my eyes, visualising him in front of me what I would do to him right now.
I reply to his text, and once I'm done, I put my phone into my pocket and walk towards the door. I've got a personal car waiting for me, and I don't want to drive as I was promised an open bar and many repressed white men wanting to "try the gay thing" out of "curiosity". I can play that game. I was never one of them, I came out to my family while I was still in school, but that's a story for another time.
The driver has the door opener for me, "Mr Green", he says, greeting me as I get into the car.
"Good evening, Tom" , I reply to him as he closes the door. I grab my phone again from my phone and smile, seeing Charlie's name again. He has sent another text. He's at some random party and thinking of me, how sweet. I never lied to him. I explained I am a whore until I am actually tied down to someone. He agreed to see other people until we do figure out what we want.
We keep texting back and forward until I arrive at the dreadful party. How can Archie do this? Is he out of his fucking mind? The car door opens, and I shove my phone into my pocket again. Once I reach the top of the stairs, a pretty girl with a tight dress and a high ponytail asks for my name. I raise an eyebrow. That never happened before. Everyone knows my name.
"Green, Joshua Green", I tell her, and she coughs lightly.
"Mr Green, I am so sorry, right that way", she says, posting to her right-hand side up the stairs. I smile at her telling her not to worry about asking the name. I can see she is nervous, probably her first time doing the door at an event like this. Poor girl. If she asks the name of the wrong person, it can cost her her job. Poor thing.
As I walk up the stairs, a white explosion takes over my eyes, and I can't help but flinch. This is not Archie at all. Everything is white and lilac, and he hates lilac. I walk with my hands in my pockets so I don't have to shake hands with people I really don't want to. I look round, and I see Archie at the back, his black tux hugging his muscular body, his blue eyes looking at me. I can see he is not smiling, he looks miserable, and I am the only one that actually cares.
He needs to grow a pair and stop this nonsense, and he can't be in love with that witch; she's just wrong, and everything he always joked about his mother is. Controlling and a bitch. I take a deep breath and approach them to hear the witch speak. Even her voice is annoying.
"Joshua Green attending a party alone", The witch says while she smiles at some randoms that walk past us. She cares way too much about everyone else and not enough about Archie.
I offer her the fakest smile I can and Shake Archie's hand, and he nods his head at me, and I approach Ursula, the sea witch and give her half kiss on the cheek. I feel a chill down my spine as soon as I do so. She's definitely wrong for him.
"There's too many fish in the sea, and I want to fish", I tell her and I can see that she glances her eyes at Archie asking for backup, but he doesn't move. Eventually, he laughs as he knows me too well, he knows what he told me to get me here, he knows I wasn't going to attend this shit show.
I leave them to do their thing, and I walk around testing the waters and talking to some of my business associates that seem to think this is the best time to talk business to me. If they knew me any better, they would know I don't do business while seeking pleasure. I excuse myself and walk to the bar with my hands shoved into my pockets again and ordered a scotch. Archie taught me how to drink scotch, and I have to say it grew on me.
As I finish my first glass, I hear someone clearing their throat next to me, so I turn my head and look around to find a beautiful young man in a suit. He looks at me with interested eyes, and I can't help but feel curious about him. I've never seen him around before. Maybe someone from the witch's side? How nice would it be if I took him home with me?
I offer him a smile, and he offers me his hand, introducing himself as Sebastian. I shake his hand, introducing myself as Josh.
"I know who you are. Your reputation is admirable", he says, and I now know he is flirting with me for sure. My only reputation is to fuck anything with a dick that moves. I chuckle at his remark, and we start making small talk until my attention is called upon Archie kneeling in front of snow white's witch. I shake my head while he professes his love for her and how happy she makes him. All I want to do is shout "bullshit," but I keep my composure because I know Archie would never forgive me, and my parents that are around here somewhere would disown me.
After he finishes, I get ready to congratulate the couple as I am expected to. I will be the best man anyway. I take a deep breath as I see Oliver and Mary congratulating them. Leticia looks so fake. How can they not see it? The way she looks at Mary as if she is inferior to her. Argh, I wouldn't say I like her guts.
I hug Archie and whisper in his ear, "big mistake, my friend" Archie shakes his head slightly, and I move on, pulling Leticia into a hug, offering her a big fake smile like hers. People actually think we get on. How can't they see past this?
"Gold digger whore", I whisper into her ear, and I can feel her body stiffen up.
"Fuck you, you faggot", she retaliates, but I can't help but find it entertaining. Calling me faggot doesn't insult me at all.
I walk away, giving place to other people, and I go back to my Sebastian. He's a good looking bloke, and I can't wait to show him the ropes. After a few more drinks and a couple of hours talking and flirting, we decide to leave and go to his hotel room. Apparently, he is from out of town, and he's staying in one of Archie's hotels.
He checks in, and the receptionist recognises me, and I offer her a small smile. I usually come here with Archie for lunch, they have the best mushroom Risotto in town, and I am a sucker for it. Once we get to the room, he pushes me against the wall, and I forget all about Archie and Leticia as soon as his lips collapse against mine.
