Chapter 1 The Debt

Yeline found refuge in standing next to the marvelous, arched window of her family's ancestral home, seeing the large gardens that had always brought her peace and comfort. As the sun began to set, its golden light cast a lovely glow over the gardens, but Yeline couldn't shake the uneasy feeling that had been nagging at her for weeks.

"Señorita, come to the study. Your father wishes to speak with you", a servant's voice interrupted her thoughts. She turned away from the window, nodding absently as she made her way down the grand staircase. The elegance of their home, with its black marble floor and magnificent chandeliers, suddenly felt cruel, as if it were pressing in on her.

The enormous study of the Del Castillo was clearly tensed as Yeline entered, her heart beating in her chest. Her father, Don Facundo, sat behind his big wood desk, his face filled with concern and fatigue. Her older sister Britta was already seated in one of the chairs in front of their father's desk.

"Father, you wanted to see me?", she asked, her voice trembling slightly.

Don Facundo raised his head, the burden of his decision reflected in his gloomy eyes. "Sit."

He paused to take a deep breath, his voice filled with emotion as he addressed Yeline. "There is something important you should be aware of," he stated seriously. "Our family is facing a serious threat. I made some terrible decisions, and now we find ourselves in a difficult situation.. owing a significant debt to a man of great influence."

Yeline felt an invasion of fear rush over her as her father's words sunk in. Confusion and concern filled her mind as she asked, "Could you please elaborate, Father?"

Her father finally met her gaze, his eyes filled with sadness and desperation. "I've received a visit from the Master's delegates. He's come to collect on the debt I owe him."

"Master?" she mumbled, using a title rather than a name. A psuedonym that demanded respect while revealing little about the man behind it.

Her father's next words sent a chill down her spine. "And he's willing to forgive the debt... if I give him one of you in payment."

"Why can't we just pay off the debt?" Yeline asked, her voice shaking with desperation.

"The amount is too large, Yeline," he said, his voice firm. "We can't possibly pay it off. I've tried to negotiate, but he is unwilling to budge. He wants one of you, and he's willing to take it by force if necessary. So, I have decided to let you marry him, Yeline."

"But Father, I'm already engaged to Onyx Guerrero," Yeline protested, her voice firm. "I've given my word, and the Guerrero family has accepted our union. You can't just break off the engagement now."

Her father's attitude became dismissive, and his eyes rolled in displeasure. "Onyx Guerrero is a nobody, Yeline," he replied. "The Guerreros are a minor family, barely worth considering when compared to the Master. Marrying him will secure our family's safety, and ensure our prosperity for generations to come."

"But Father, I love Onyx," she said, her voice trembling. "I want to marry him, not some stranger who only wants to use me to further his own interests."

"You will do as I say, and marry this man. It's the only way to ensure our family's survival." Yeline felt a goosebump as she realized the extent of her father's ruthlessness.

"You're going to give me away, Father?" she complained, her voice shaking. "You're going to hand me over to that man, like I'm some kind of material."

Her father's expression remained firm and tough. "It's the only way to pay off the debt, Yeline," he stated calmly. "You're the only one who can save our family."

Yeline's heart burned with resentment. "Save our family?" she said, her voice rising. "You mean save Britta, don't you? You're willing to sacrifice me to save your precious Britta."

Her father's eyes twitched, but he remained unconcerned. "Britta is your sister, Yeline," he explained. "I'm doing this for both of you."

Yeline's laugh was bitter. "You're doing this for Britta, Father," she clarified. "You've always done everything for Britta. You've always loved her more, always prioritized her needs over mine. Have you asked if I was willing to go? You just assumed that I would sacrifice myself for Britta and this family. You just assumed I was disposable."

Her father's eyes lowered, but Yeline saw no regret or apology. Only a cold, calculated urge to complete what he considered a necessity.

"I'm your daughter, too, Father," Yeline murmured, her voice shaking with emotion. "I'm your child, just like Britta. But you've never treated me like one. You've never loved me like one."

Britta stepped forward, her eyes filled with tears. "Father, no," she responded firmly. "You can't send Yeline. I'll go instead."

Yeline's eyes widened in disbelief, and her pulse raced with emotion. "Britta, no," she said quietly, but Britta shut her down.

"I'm the eldest, Father," Britta declared, her voice firm. "It's my duty to protect my family. I'll go in Yeline's place."

Yeline felt an inflow of gratitude for her sister, but she knew she couldn't allow Britta to sacrifice herself for her. "No, Britta," Yeline said, her voice aggressive. "I won't let you do it. You're not going to sacrifice yourself for me."

Britta's face set in determination. "I have to, Yeline," she said. "I have to protect you."

Yeline's anger and frustration boiled over. "If you could just handle your business better, Father, we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place."

Her father's face turned red with rage, his eyes popping out from their sockets. "How dare you, Yeline!" he growled, his voice low and dangerous. But before he could continue, he clutched at his chest, his face altering in pain.

Britta rushed to his side, her eyes filled with concern. "Father, no!" she cried, her voice trembling.

Yeline felt a pang of guilt, of shame, as she watched her father's anger escalate into a near-heart attack.

Britta looked up at her, her eyes filled with a deep concern. "Yeline, it's okay," she said, her voice soft. "I've got this. Go, get some help."

Yeline nodded, feeling a sense of numbness wash over her. As she turned to leave, Britta's words followed her, a gentle comfort in the midst of chaos. "It's not your fault, Yeline. It's not your fault."

After calling her father's doctor, she retreated to her room, she immediately reached for her phone, desperate to hear Onyx's voice.

Her hands trembled as she dialed his number, hoping against hope that he would pick up. The phone rang, echoing in the silence of her room, but there was no answer. She tried again, and again, each time her heart sinking a little more when he didn't pick up.

"Please, Onyx, answer", she whispered, tears streaming down her face. But there was nothing, only the relentless ringing followed by a voicemail.

Exhausted and overwhelmed by the events of the day, Yeline collapsed on her bed. The tears flowed freely, and she cried until she had no tears left to shed. Her body ached from emotional strain, and her mind was a whirlpool of despair and confusion.

Slowly, her exhaustion took over, and she drifted to a restless sleep. In her dream, she saw Onyx, his face a comforting presence in the darkness. They were together, laughing and hding each other, a stark contrast to the nightmare her life had become.

"Onyx", she whispered in her sleep, reaching out to him in her dream. But even there, he seemed to slip away, just beyond her reach. The dream shifted, and she found herself standing before a man. The mysterious figure loomed over her, a reminder of the uncertain future that awaits her.

Yeline's dreams were a tangled web of love, loss and fear. As she slept, her heart for the comfort of Onyx's embrace, while her mind, struggled to make sense of the betrayal and uncertainty that now define her reality.

Chapter 2 Runaway With Me

Yeline was lost in the labyrith of her dreams, the silhouette of a man and Onyx haunting her every step. Suddenly, she felt a sharp jolt. Someone was shaking her.

"Yeline, wake up! You're having a nightmare!" Britta's voice pierced through the fog of sleep.

Yeline's eyes opened, her heart still racing from the dream. She found Britta leaning over her with a genuine worry etched to her face.

"B-Britta?" she mumbled, still disoriented.

"I heard you crying out in your sleep," Britta replied softly. "I was worried about you. Are you okay?"

Yeline sat up rubbing her eyes. "I... I don't know. It was just a bad dream."

Britta sat beside her on the bed, her concern seemingly sincere. "You've been through so much today. I can't imagine how you are feeling."

Yeline's thought quickly turned to their father. "Is Father okay?" she asked, her voice laced with anxiety.

Britta nodded. "Yes, he's resting now. The doctor gave him something to help him sleep."

Yeline sighed in relief, though her heart still ached with the weight of the day's revelations. As she was about to say more, her phone rang, cutting through the silence. She quickly grabbed it, seeing Onyx's name flashing on the screen.

"It's Onyx," she whispered to Britta, her voice filled with hope.

Britta gave her a reassuring nod, though a flicker of something darker crossed her eyes. Yeline answered the call.

"Onyx?" she said, her voice trembling.

"Hey, I'm so sorry I missed your calls. I was stuck in a meeting that ran way longer than expected," Onyx explained.

Yeline took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves. "It's okay, I understand. But I really needed to talk to you, Onyx. Something's happened."

"What is it, Yeline? You sound scared," Onyx's voice was laced with concern.

Tears welled up in Yeline's eyes as she recounted the events of the evening. "I think I'm going to have to marry some powerful man that my father is indebted to, Onyx. And I don't think I have a choice anymore."

Onyx's silence was heavy with tension. "What? Yeline, that's crazy. You can't marry him. What about us?"

Yeline's eyes welled up with tears again as she thought about the consequences of her decision. "I know, I know. But if I don't comply, who knows what will happen to Father and Britta? The man has the power to destroy them, Onyx."

"No." Onyx said firmly. "You need to get out of there, Yeline. You can't marry him. We'll figure something out, but you can't stay there. Run away with me. Meet me at the back gate, I'll come pick you up."

As Yeline hesitated, she felt a pair of eyes on her. She glanced up to see Britta watching her intently. Britta's expression was unreadable, but Yeline sensed a shift in her sister's demeanor. "Yeline, go. You can't stay here. We'll figure something out, but you can't marry that man."

Yeline turned to Britta, her eyes searching for reassurance. "But Britta, what about you? What will happen to you if I leave?"

Britta's expression was determine. "I'll be fine, Yeline. I'll take care of myself. You need to think about yourself for once."

Yeline hugged her sister as she considered the possibility of leaving Britta behind. "But what if the Master decides to marry you instead? I couldn't bear it if that happened."

Britta's grip on her arm tightened. "Yeline, I'll take that risk. You can't stay here and marry him. You have to go."

"Yeline, are you there?" Onyx's voice pulled her back to the moment.

"Yes, I'm here," she replied, her mind racing, "I'll pack my things. I'll see you soon."

"Good. Be careful." Onyx said before the call ended.

"Thank you, Britta" she said, feeling a flicker of gratitude. She quickly began to gather her some of her things, her hands trembling with a mix of fear and determination.

As she packed, Britta watched her with a worried expression. Once she was ready, she turned to her sister. "I have to go now."

Britta embraced her, whispering, "Be safe, Yeline."

She nodded, then slipped out of her room, her heart pounding.

She moved quietly through the darkened halls of the mansion, her mind focused on reaching Onyx.

As she stepped out into the cool air, the weight of her decision settled over her. She knew this was her only chance to escape the nightmare that her life had become. But as she made her way to the back gate, a sense of unease lingered.

Upon reaching the back gate, she saw that the guards were asleep, their posts unattended. On the other side, she spotted Onyx, his face a mix of determination and worry. She carefully approached, trying to slip past the guards unnoticed.

Just as she was about to reach the gate, a dog's bark shattered the silence. The guards stirred, their eyes snapped open. Panic surged through her as the dog barked louder, alerting everyone.

"Who's there?" one of the guards shouted, grabbing his flashlight.

She frozed, her heart pounding. Onyx started to.move towards her, but she quickly signed him to back down, mouthing, "Stay hidden."

The guards disoriented in thr darkness, hadn't yet recognized her. But the commotion grew louder, and lights flicked on in the mansion. Her father, Don Facundo, appeared at the top of stairs, his face twisted in anger. "What's going on here?" he demanded.

The guards turned toward him, saluting. "We caught someone trying to sneak out, sir."

Don Facundo's eyes narrowed as he descended the stairs, his gaze locking on to her. "Yeline! What are you doing?"

Her heart sank. "Father, I... I just needed some air."

"Don't you lie to me!" he roared. "You were trying to escape!"

Her mouth went dry. "Father, please. I can't go through with this."

"You have no choice." Don Facundo said coldly. "Guards ensure she doesn't leave this mansion. She is not allowed outside these walls."

Her hope crumbled as the guards move to restrain her. She glanced back at the gate, where Onyx remained hidden in the shadows, his face a mask of helpless anger.

As she was led back inside, she felt the weight of her fate pressing down on her. Her escape had failed, and now she was more trapped than ever.

Chapter 3 A Needle in a Haystack

Onyx's POV

Onyx found himself seated in the luxurious conference room, his attention divided between the discussion at hand and his own thoughts. The executive representing a major multinational corporation was discussing potential investment opportunities in great detail. Despite his efforts to stay engaged, Onyx couldn't help but find his mind wandering back to Yeline.

His phone vibrated in his pocket unexpectedly, providing a brief distraction. He quickly glanced at the screen and realized it was Yeline calling. The mention of her name caused his pulse to speed. He was aware that she rarely interrupted his meetings with phone calls unless they were important. Despite his impulse to respond, he understood that it would be inappropriate with the client that was there. He quickly muted the phone and reminded himself to return the call as soon as he was able to.

As the meeting progressed, his nerves became increasingly agitated. When the meeting ended, he left right away. As he ran out of the room, he grabbed his phone and dialed Yeline's number, his hands shaking with anticipation and anxiety.

Her voice trembled with anxiety as she expressed her fears to him. She disclosed the horrible truth that her own father intended to use her as a bargaining chip with a powerful guy, risking her entire family's safety and livelihood if she refused. As he listened to her distress, Onyx's emotions shifted between rage and disbelief.

He decided to run away with Yeline, the girl he loves. He told Yeline about his plan to leave together, and she agreed to meet him at the back gate of her family's estate.

As the call ended, his mind raced. He had to protect Yeline, no matter the cost. He quickly dialed another number, calling his trusted butler, James.

"James, I need you to prepare a yacht and the mansion on the hidden island. We need to leave tonight," he ordered.

"Understood, sir. Everything will be ready." James replied, his voice calm and efficient.

After the call ended, his thoughts turned to the plan he needed to carry out. Coming from a wealthy and influential family, they were successful in managing a variety of property and enterprises around the world. They had demonstrated their ability to overcome obstacles through the use of power and resources over time. However, the man who instilled such terror to Yeline's father, might possessed much more power and authority.

He couldn't afford exposing Yeline in public until they had identified their probable rivals. The secluded island estate, hidden away and well-guarded, appeared to be the most appropriate solution for the current circumstances.

He got to his sleek back car and drove to Yeline's place, his mind whirling with concern and determination. When he arrived, he parked a safe distance away, keeping an eye on the back gate. He saw Yeline approach cautiously, trying to slip past the guards.

His heart pounded as he watched, praying she would make it. But then, the dog's bark shattered the silence, and the guards sprang to life. His pulse quickened. He saw Yeline signal him to stay hidden, he fought the urge to rush to her aid. He felt a knot of helpless anger in his chest as he watched the guards surround her.

The commotion grew louder, and the lights flicked on in the mansion. He saw Don Facundo appear, his fave twisted with anger. The guards restrained Yeline, and his heart broke at the sight of her being dragged back inside.

As they disappeared into the mansion, he clenched his fist. He felt useless and angry at himself for not being able to do anything. He had failed to protect Yeline when she needed him the most.

He drove back to his own home, his mind a whirlwind of frustration and desperation. He couldn't let this be the end. He had to come up with another plan. He couldn't abandon Yeline to her fate. She meant too much for him.

Sitting in his study, Onyx thought about his next move. He needed more information about the mysterious man. Without knowing who they're dealing with, any attempt to rescue Yeline would be too risky.

He took a deep breath, his determination hardening. He would use every resource at his disposal to find out who this man is and how to defeat him. He wouldn't rest until Yeline was safe and free from the clutches of her father's debt.

Desperation torments him. The frustration of hitting a brick wall with the mysterious man was unbearable. With a defeated sigh, he pulled out his phone and dialed a familiar number.

"Hey, man", came Markus' friendly voice. "Everything alright?"

"Not really", he confessed, his voice heavy. "I need your help again." He then told Markus everything. "Can you come over?"

"I'll be there in thirty minutes", Markus replied with no hesitation.

True to his word, Markus arrived with a bag full of high-tech equipment. He set up his laptop and various gadgets on Onyx's desk, his fingers flying as he began his search.

"Give me everything you know about this man," Markus said, his eyes focused on the screen.

"That's the worst part, I haven't asked Yeline yet about that man. I don't know anything about him. No name, no address, nothing." he says.

Silence stretched in the room before Markus spoke. "That's a tough one, brother. Without any leads, it'll be like searching for a needle in a haystack." A hint of determination hardened his voice. "But listen, I won't give up. We'll crack this together, all right?"

He appreciated the support. "Thanks, Markus. I really don't know what I'd do without you."

For the next hours, they strategized, explored dead ends, and go through every possible digital footprint. But without a single piece of information, their efforts proved useless. Disappointment settled over them.

"Alright" Markus finally conceded, a sigh escaping his lips. "We'll have to regroup. If you find anything about him, anything at all, let me know, and we'll pick this back up."

He nodded, the weight of the unknown pressing down on him. Defeated, he sat lazily on the couch. Noticing this, Markus raided his pantry, pulling out a pizza, bottles of wine and two glasses.

"Thought you might need some alcoholic company and sustenance," Markus said, a hesitant smile playing on his lips.

Touched by his gestures, he gave him a faint smile. They settled on the couch, the uneaten pizza serving as a silent testament to their failed efforts. They drank, talked, and reminisced, laughter slowly working it's way back into the evening. As the night deepened, the alcohol loosened their tongues. Secrets tumbled out, dreams were shared, and vulnerabilities revealed.

By the time the last drop of wine were gone, both Onyx and Markus lie back on the couch, a comfortable silence filling the room. Exhaustion from their shared investigation and the effects of the alcohol finally overcame them. Their eyelids rest, and soon, both were fast asleep, momentarily forgetting their worries in the blissful blankness of sleep.
