Chapter 1 Crossed Wires

"You sure he's coming alone?"

Leah Moore's voice was calm, but her grip on the binoculars said otherwise. She crouched behind the wheel of a battered city van parked just outside a dim alley off 5th and Garland. Miami humidity clung to her skin like static.

Her partner, Officer Torres, adjusted his earpiece, watching the alley through a cracked rear-view mirror. "Looks like it. Same guy from the recon photos. Brown coat, same twitchy hands."

"He's late," Leah muttered. "Something's off."

"Maybe he stopped to pick flowers," Torres quipped.

The guy finally emerged, checking over his shoulder like he owed the world money. He carried a cross-bag slung low and held onto something small in his left hand.

"Alright," Leah said.

"That's our guy, Alexei Duarte. Traffics pickpocket, Cryptocurrency Scammer, runs with the Lisbon crew. Wait till he makes contact."

Before Torres could reply, it all went sideways.

Alexei turned sharply, saw a glimpse of the unmarked squad car across the street, and panicked. He shoved a passing cyclist aside, bolted across the road and the world spun into chaos.

"Shit......MOVE!"

Leah jumped out just as Torres hit the siren. But Alexei was fast. Too fast. He darted through traffic, nearly got clipped by a taxi, then ducked into the shopping plaza across the intersection.

A scream echoed.

By the time Leah reached the scene, a teenage boy lay groaning near the entrance blood on his temple. Torres knelt beside him.

"He ran straight into the kid," he said. "Then vanished inside."

Leah's eyes scanned the crowd. Too many faces. Too much noise. Someone had helped the boy, but they were gone now.

She cursed under her breath. "He's in the mall. Lock it down."

Meanwhile...

Jason Walker pulled the trigger.

"Freeze, scumbag!" he shouted.

The foam dart bounced harmlessly off the guy in the ski mask, who flopped to the ground with enough melodrama to win a streaming award.

A cheer broke out as Jason raised both hands in mock victory. A pair of drone cameras zipped overhead, catching the moment from every angle. The whole bottom floor of the Regency Mall was his playground for the night, transformed into a live-action arena for his new obsession: Flex Cop.

Complete with stunt actors, prop weapons, breakaway furniture, and an absurdly overpriced fog machine.

"Cut scene!" his assistant yelled from behind a folding monitor. "Great take!"

Jason slipped off his sunglasses and grinned. "I'm telling you, this would crush on Prime. Add some post-production explosions, bam....instant hit."

His security detail rolled their eyes. Most of them were ex-Marines. None of them were actors.

As Jason took a swig of electrolyte water and high-fived a makeup artist, he heard a thud from the second floor.

Then a scream.

Jason tightened the strap of his tactical vest. "That scream didn't sound fake," he muttered, already heading toward the noise.

His assistant called after him, "Jason! That's not part of the...."

"Relax," Jason waved without looking back. "Probably one of the extras being dramatic."

He took the escalator two steps at a time. The air upstairs was oddly tense. No smoke machine. No music. Just silence and the echo of hurried footsteps.

Then he saw him.

A guy in a dirty brown coat was sprinting toward the emergency exit. His face was pale, eyes wild. Jason's brows furrowed.

"Yo!" Jason shouted. "You lost or what?"

The man didn't stop. He just shoved over a trash can and kept running. Jason blinked.

That wasn't one of the actors.

"Hey!" Jason took off after him, adrenaline kicking in. "Stop! I'm...uh... I'm the law tonight, buddy!"

The man turned sharply and ran toward a side hallway but not before throwing a quick punch at Jason when he got too close.

"Whoa! You just swung at me?"

Jason ducked, barely missing the hit, then tackled the man into a nearby kiosk full of phone cases.

They crashed to the floor.

The man tried to wriggle free, but Jason grabbed the back of his coat. "Chill, man! What's wrong with you? This ain't part of the damn game!"

The man elbowed him in the ribs.

Jason grunted. "Alright. You wanna play for real? Cool."

He swung once, clocking the man square in the jaw.

The guy groaned, eyes rolling back, and collapsed flat on the floor completely out cold.

Jason stood up, panting, looking down at him.

"Okay, that... was definitely not an actor."

Behind him, someone shouted, "Police! Hands up!"

Jason spun around right into the flashlight beam of a gun-toting woman with a badge.

"You've gotta be kidding me," he muttered.

He turned

Just in time to see Detective Leah Moore draw her weapon.

"Hands up!" she barked, eyes wide. "Step away from him!"

Jason blinked. "Wait what?"

Leah's gaze flicked between the unconscious suspect and Jason's very real-looking prop gun still holstered at his side.

"You're under arrest."

Jason froze.

"Okay," he said slowly, "I know this looks bad..."

Chapter 2 No Good Deed

"Hands up!"

Jason's body froze, arms instinctively rising as Leah advanced toward him, gun drawn and eyes narrowed with a predator's focus. The flickering neon lights above the alley painted her silhouette in sharp, flickering shadows.

"Whoa, whoa, easy," Jason said, palms open, his voice a strained mixture of patience and irritation. "I know what this looks like, but you've got the wrong idea."

Leah didn't blink. Her badge glinted just under her jacket, right above the name tag: Detective L. Moore.

"Step away from the suspect. Now."

Jason looked down at the unconscious man lying beside the dumpster the same guy who'd barreled through a crowd, knocked over a child, and pulled a knife during their scuffle. Jason had been filming a live-action stunt nearby and acted on instinct. But now?

He sighed. "Look, I was just trying to help. That guy ran from security. I stopped him."

"With what? Your Hollywood smile?" Leah snapped. "Get on your knees."

"Seriously? You can't be..."

"Down. Now."

Jason slowly obeyed, fingers interlaced behind his head. A second squad car pulled into the alley. Officer Torres stepped out, radio crackling, as backup arrived.

Leah moved in, snapped the cuffs on him, and read him his rights without missing a beat. Jason's protests were ignored as she marched him toward the car.

"You're making a mistake," he muttered. "My name's Jason Walker. You might wanna Google it."

"Save it for your lawyer."

Soon at the police station, Jason sat behind cold steel bars, the holding cell's fluorescent light buzzing with the same annoying rhythm as his headache. His phone, wallet, and credibility all confiscated.

Across the desk, Leah reviewed the surveillance footage. Her jaw tightened when she saw the unconscious man indeed attacking a bystander before Jason intercepted him. Still, her pride refused to yield. Unauthorized interference, fake prop weapon, civilian in a crime scene it was enough to justify detainment. Technically.

"You still don't believe me," Jason called from the cell. "Even with the footage."

"Believe you? You interfered in an ongoing operation," she snapped.

"I prevented a guy from stabbing someone. But sure, let's punish that."

Just then, the sergeant entered the precinct lobby with a puzzled expression. "Detective Moore, you might wanna see this."

Moments later, A long, black G-wagon followed other black sedans in a convoy rode into the parking lot and parked close to the station's entrance. Out stepped Andrew Walker, sharp suit, steely eyes, and a presence that silenced the entire room. Flanking him were three high-profile attorneys and two security operatives dressed like they walked off the pages of Forbes.

The sergeant fumbled with his words. "Uh, how can we help you?"

Andrew removed his sunglasses with calculated drama. "Jason Walker. Where is he?"

"And you are?"

One of the lawyers answered before Andrew could. "This is Mr. Andrew Walker, acting CEO of Walker Holdings. We're here to ensure Mr. Jason Walker is released immediately."

The sergeant glanced between them and the holding cell. "He was arrested?.."

"Wrongfully," Damian interrupted. "And I suggest you rectify that before this becomes a public relations nightmare."

Leah watched the commotion with a slow-growing sense of unease. She had recognized Jason's name, sure but it hadn't clicked. Not until now.

Jason Walker. Son of Richard Walker. Billionaire heir to one of the most powerful private equity dynasties on the East Coast. Every financial publication, every gala, every charity headline, Jason was that Jason.

Leah's stomach dropped. She turned toward the cell.

Jason raised an eyebrow. "Still think I'm faking it?"

The door buzzed open, and Andrew swept into the room, jaw tight. "You alright?"

Jason stood. "Aside from the false arrest? Peachy."

The lead attorney handed over a file with legal documents. "We're pressing for immediate dismissal and potential civil claims pending investigation."

Leah stepped forward. "I didn't realize who he was."

"Exactly," Damian said coldly. "You didn't realize. You didn't check. You saw a man in costume and assumed the worst."

Leah opened her mouth to argue but found no words.

Meanwhile, A freelance crime blogger named Tanya was sneaking around the station hoping to get latest news and information. She'd been tipped off about the mall fight but missed the action. Now, she stared through her camera lens trying to find things to capture

Click.

She froze.

Jason Walker. In a holding cell. In cuffs.

"Holy..." she whispered, snapping more shots.

Within minutes, the photo hit her blog. And then Twitter. Then TikTok. Then the front page of a tabloid site.

BREAKING: Billionaire Heir Jason Walker Spotted in Jail; Allegedly Arrested in Crime Scene Brawl

One of the assistants hurriedly brings a tablet to Andrew to show him the news.

Andrew swore under his breath. "Too late."

"I need a word with your Chief" he said facing Leah

Chapter 3 Smoke and Strings

By morning, Jason Walker was a national sensation.

The image of him sitting shirtless in a Miami holding cell bruised, smirking, defiant had gone viral.

It started as a tabloid whisper: Illegitimate billionaire son arrested in violent outburst. But by noon, major networks had picked it up. And by 2 PM, it was everywhere on morning shows, financial news panels, YouTube breakdowns, TikTok edits, and Instagram reels.

BREAKING: Jason Walker, Illegitimate Son of Tech Titan Richard Walker, Arrested in Public Altercation!

Was He High? Drunk? Or Just Reckless?

Walker Family Scandal Blows Open Again!

Andrew was seated in the office of Chief Morales, the Miami Police Department's long-standing and now visibly sweating figurehead.

"Mr. Walker," Morales stammered, trying to sound in control as he gestured to a leather chair. "I.....please, have a seat."

Andrew didn't sit.

"I assume you've seen the footage?" he asked coolly.

"I have. And let me just say this is a huge misunderstanding. I've already launched an internal....."

"I don't want your panic," Andrew said, voice sharp as a scalpel. "I want actions. Who exactly arrested my brother?"

The Chief blinked. "A Detective Moore. Leah Moore. And Captain Harold Grant signed off on the charges."

Andrew turned away, hiding a smile.

"Bring them in."

Ten minutes later, Leah stood in the center of the Chief's office, eyes hard, jaw set. Captain Harold stood beside her like a weathered statue.

Chief Morales, suddenly emboldened by Andrew's presence, exploded.

"What the hell were you two thinking?! Arresting the son of Richard Walker without confirmation? Without protocol? This could tank our entire department's credibility!"

"We had reason to believe....." Harold began.

"He was interfering with an arrest," Leah cut in, unapologetic. "We didn't know who he was. And frankly, it shouldn't have mattered."

Andrew turned to her, finally speaking. "Your job, Detective Moore, is not to create headlines. It's to enforce the law."

She didn't flinch. "That's exactly what I was doing."

Suddenly, a junior officer rushed in, phone in hand, face pale.

"Sir... you need to see this."

He tapped a screen, and all eyes turned to the TV again.

This time, the headline read:

UPDATE: Jason Walker Apprehends Notorious Fugitive Alexei Duarte During Miami Mall Altercation.

They watched in stunned silence as grainy cellphone footage played: Jason lunging at a man pulling a concealed weapon, tackling him with brutal efficiency.

"Alexei Duarte, wanted for three counts of armed robbery and linked to two recent homicides, was taken into custody moments later."

"Police confirm: Jason Walker's intervention prevented what could have been a mass shooting."

Silence.

The Chief sat down like someone had pulled the floor out from under him.

"Dear God..."

Andrew, however, remained unfazed. He stepped closer to the TV and smiled faintly, like a man watching his enemy win one battle in a war he'd already rigged.

Chief Morales looked at him helplessly. "Mr. Walker, we....obviously we had no idea. This changes everything. The mayor's office just called to ask if we're giving him a medal or an apology."

Andrew folded his arms. "Both, I imagine."

Morales turned to Leah and Harold. "You two you better pray we can spin this. Or you'll be directing traffic in Over town by Friday."

Andrew cleared his throat. "Actually... I have a suggestion."

All eyes turned to him.

"Let's issue a statement," he said. "One that explains everything. Jason Walker was working undercover with the Miami Police Department on a quiet initiative. Something community-driven, off the books."

Harold frowned. "That's not true."

Andrew shrugged. "Who's going to check?"

Leah narrowed her eyes. "You want us to lie to protect your family's name."

Andrew met her gaze. "No. I want to protect Jason. He saved lives. This gives your department a win, and gives him... direction."

The Chief nodded eagerly. "Yes, yes. It's genius. We save face, the public gets a hero, and the narrative shifts in our favor."

Leah shook her head in disbelief. "And Jason? What does he get?"

Andrew smiled like a snake. "Purpose."

Captain Harold stepped forward, voice low. "And what do you get, Andrew?"

Andrew's smile didn't waver. "Time."

He turned back to the Chief. "Make the announcement tonight. And let's keep Jason busy. Press, public appearances... you know, the whole 'rags-to-redemption' story. Meanwhile, I'll keep things steady at the company. Give my father one less thing to worry about."

The Chief, already convinced, stood up. "It's done."

Andrew clapped him on the shoulder. "Good man."

Just then, a message flashed across the screen behind them. Another breaking news alert:

INSIDE SOURCE: WALKER FAMILY TENSIONS ERUPT AS BROTHERS CLASH OVER POWER, LEGACY, AND SECRETS.

Beneath it was a photo taken just minutes ago of Jason in the holding cell, smirking as he leaned against the cold bars.

Leah turned to Andrew. "How convenient."

Andrew glanced at the photo with the barest flicker of emotion. "Miami loves a comeback story."

He walked toward the door.

As he reached for the handle, the door opened and the now released Jason came into the office smirking.

"Where is that Detective... What's her name again."

He was then held by his brother who dragged him out while explaining to him that the situation is under control and that he should get ready to resume the following day.

Leah looked at Harold, then at the Chief, and finally back at the door closing behind the walker brothers.

" We cannot do this, We are suppose to be a ray of hope to the people and not lie to them" she said facing the Chief

"Do you want to resign or be relegated to the traffic division with a suspended salary?" he fired back at her.

"Just pray Jason refuses the offer and does not show up" he added

Meanwhile, has both brothers headed towards the exit of the police station.

"Jason," Andrew said calmly, adjusting his cufflink

"this... situation has actually presented us with an opportunity."

Jason didn't stop walking. "Us?" His voice was a low growl. "There's no 'us' here, Andrew. You and the Chief just threw me to the wolves in a tailored suit."

Andrew sighed, then stopped beside the Ferrari and leaned casually against the driver's door. "No one threw you anywhere. You got caught doing something stupid again and I cleaned it up. You're welcome."

Jason turned on him, jaw tense. "You mean you spun it. Turned me into a cop. An undercover officer what kind of absurd PR move is that?"

"It's brilliant," Andrew said simply. "The story's already gone viral. Everyone's eating it up. 'Billionaire heir goes undercover to help take down drug rings.' The Chief's thrilled. The mayor is making calls. Our father even cracked a rare 'not bad' over the phone."

Jason's face twisted. "I'm not interested in your fairy tales or Dad's grudging 'approval.' What I am interested in is getting the hell away from this joke."

"You can't," Andrew said, with that patronizing calm smile

"We've already drafted a press release and a soft launch article through the Times. You'll be assisting the PD for a few weeks, press-friendly raids, community ops. Just enough to make it believable."

Jason barked a bitter laugh. "You're kidding."

Andrew stared him down. "You think the board at Walker Enterprises would accept your name in the same breath as assault charges and a viral mugshot? You're radioactive. This is your rehab. Your chance to earn any credibility with Dad... and with the world."

"I'm doing this to protect the company," Andrew replied, gaze sharp. "From scandals. From you."

Then Jason turned without another word, stormed to the car, and yanked the door open with such force it groaned.

Andrew called after him, voice cool as ever, "Don't be stupid. You've got a chance to make something of yourself finally. Prove to Dad that you're more than a scandal."

The Ferrari's engine ignited like thunder rolling through the lot. Tires screeched across the pavement as Jason slammed the door, threw the car into gear, and roared out of the station like a bullet tearing through silence.

Andrew remained, unmoved, sipping the last of his coffee from a paper cup. He turned his head just as a cluster of young officers paused to gape at the trail of smoke left behind.

He allowed himself a small, victorious smile.

"Let the games begin."
