Xalia smiled nervously as she stood in front of the mirror and stared at her reflection, she placed her hand on her stunning dress and took in a deep breath. It is her big day, the day she has always been dreaming of since she met him.
She couldn't help but giggle at how beautiful she looked, she couldn't wait to see the look in his eyes when he saw her, and she couldn't wait to say her vows and be with him for the rest of her life. She really did not doubt taking this step, she is ready for this.
"Hey, are you ready?" She heard a familiar voice ask and she turned to see her mother walking in.
"Yes, mum." She replied with a smile and her mother hugged her lightly.
"You look so beautiful honey, your wedding dress is amazing." Her mother complimented and she smiled widely.
"I know right, Kyle picked it personally." She giggled in response and her mother laughed.
"Mum, you look kind of worried, is everything okay?" She asked, noticing a hint of fake in her mother's laughter.
"It's fine dear, it's nothing. It's just that I haven't seen your father since last night." She replied and Xalia rolled her eyes.
"So? Are you surprised?"
"Not really but it is your big day, he should be here." She sighed and Xalia held her hand.
"Mum, it's okay. We don't need him and I don't want to be sad today."
"Right, sorry, my bad." Her mother laughed and she smiled. She has been dealing with this right from childhood, it is something she is used to. Being born into a polygamous family isn't such a good life but with time, you will get used to it and learn to live with it.
The door to the room suddenly opened and her best friend walked in with a smile.
"Hey." She called with a burst of nervous laughter and Xalia gave her a questioning look.
"I'm I that late already? We should get going then." She tried to adjust her gown but her friend laughed and held her hands.
"Xalia, I think you might want to calm down a bit... "
"Huh?" Xalia's mother asked, confused and she laughed nervously again.
"Is everything okay?" Xalia asked and her friend, Allison shook her head.
"Oh my God, is Kyle okay?" She asked in fear.
"Yes, Kyle is okay, nobody is hurt, everything is fine."
"So what is going on? We have to get to the church." Xalia's mother said and Allison stuttered thinking of the best way to break the news to them.
This isn't going to hurt Xalia alone, it is also going to bring shame and ruin things for her family, they are highly respected in Atlanta alongside Kyle's family, it's not just a wedding being ruined, it is a public disgrace.
"Allison, tell me what is going on right now!" Xalia snapped and Allison sighed.
"Turn on Channel 9." She exhaled with a worried expression and Xalia's mother picked up the remote from the huge bed, she turned to the television and turned it on, Xalia waited nervously to see what was going on on Channel 9.
As it came on, Xalia watched what was happening and she raised her brow in confusion.
She could see her father locking arms with her step-sister and walking her down the aisle, she was confused and her expression slowly turned to a frown. She didn't know her step-sister was having a wedding today. Today is her day.
They got to the altar where the groom was and Xalia felt her heart stop beating as she stared at the groom. She felt her head spin and started to feel dizzy, she slowly sat on the bed still in shock and her mother gasped.
That is her husband to be up there and he is getting married to her step-sister, she watched them hold hands and say their vows with smiles on their faces, Allison hurriedly turned off the television and turned to Xalia.
"Xalia, I am so sorry."
"Mum." She called breaking down and her mother rushed to her, she sat next to her and wrapped her arms around her. She felt her heart shatter into a million pieces as she kept replaying the image of her step-sister getting married to Kyle in her head.
"Get this dress off me!" She screamed out of the blue and her mother flinched.
"Hmm, actually about that." Allison muttered and they turned to her again.
"What? What is it?" Xalia's mother asked and she stuttered.
"Allison what again? What else can be worse than this?"
"There is a man waiting for you at the church as your groom."
"What?"
"There is a man waiting... "
"I fucking heard what you said!" Xalia screamed in tears and Allison nodded sharply.
"Mum, what is going on?" She cried.
"You don't have to do anything, you are not getting married, just stay here, and I will be right back." Her mother said and walked out of the room, Allison moved closer to her best friend and pulled her into a hug.
"I am so sorry this happened to you." Allison apologised and Xalia sniffed, she felt cheated and played.
"I feel like such a fool, I never for once noticed that something could be going on between them." She sobbed.
"No one did and you are not a fool."
"Why does she always get what she wants and I don't? It has always been about her." She whimpered in Allison's arms and she stroked her hair.
"I really don't know what to say." Allison whispered.
The door to the room opened and Xalia's mother walked in, Allison turned to look at her.
"Allision, fix her make-up." Her mother ordered and Xalia slowly turned to her.
"What? Why?" Allison asked.
"Because her groom is waiting for her." Her mother replied sternly and she kept a stern look.
"Kyle?" Xalia asked with a low voice and her mother scoffed.
"No, not Kyle because he is already married to your sister."
"You want me to get married to a stranger?" She asked surprised.
"Yes, now fix her fucking makeup."
"But ma'am, I... '' Allison stuttered and Allison's mum glared at her.
"I am not doing it, I can't get married to someone I know nothing about. What is wrong with you mum? You were on my side before you walked out of that door!" Xalia yelled and her mother exhaled trying to calm herself.
"It is either you get married to that stranger or I disown you." Her mother threatened and her heart skipped a beat.
Who the hell is this stranger and why is her mother supporting the marriage out of the blue?
Xalia fought back her tears as she sat in the car heading to the church, her mother kept a straight face and ignored her while Allison held her hand and kept whispering soothing words to her.
Different thoughts ran through Xalia's head as she tried to understand what was going on, firstly, her husband-to-be left her on their wedding day and got married to her step-sister, a stranger is waiting for her at the church to get married to, and out of the blue, her mother is okay with it.
It was a lot to take in and...
"Xalia, we are here." She heard a voice and it snapped her out of her thoughts, she turned to look out the window and there was the church.
"Mum, please." She cried as the guards got out of the car leaving her, Allison and her mother alone.
"Get out of the car Xalia." She replied looking at her with a stern expression.
"I don't want to get married to a stranger, I don't even know what is going on."
"You don't need to know what is going on, all you have to do is go in there and say your vows."
"Mum, why am I... "
"Get out of the car Xalia, there are a lot of people in there waiting for the McCalls, you can not... "
"Is this about them? Mum, you want me to be with a stranger forever."
"Xalia, just do this." Allison said giving her a comforting look and she breathed out, she was silent for a few seconds and she exhaled.
"I'm ready." She muttered and the guard opened the door, Allison helped her out of the car because of her dress and they all walked towards the entrance.
They got to the entrance and Allison smiled at her.
A middle-aged man walked to them with a smile and bowed.
"Here is Mr. Trevor, he will be walking you down the aisle." Her mother introduced and the man bowed to her.
"Of course." She mumbled with an eye roll and the man locked arms with her, they walked into the church and Xalia fixed her eyes on the altar to see who she will be getting married to.
She couldn't see his face because he kept his head low, everyone else was invisible to Xalia, all she could see was the stranger waiting for her.
They got to the altar and she could hear her heart pounding, the crowd sat and the priest moved closer to them, the stranger slowly turned to her and looked up at her, she felt her heart stop beating as she stared at him.
His face held no expression, she couldn't understand how he was feeling, for some reason, she felt terrified and the hairs on her body were erect.
"Please repeat after me, Miss. McCall." The priest said snapping her out of her thoughts, she glanced at him before turning back to the stranger she is getting married to.
She was so lost in thought, she didn't know the priest had already started the ceremony.
"I, Xalia McCall... " She repeated after the priest with a shaky voice, the priest turned to the stranger and he stared at Xalia, he didn't take his eyes off her and she found it difficult to breathe.
"Mr. Wade, please repeat after me." The priest said.
"I, Wade, take... "
Xalia wondered why only his last name was called, doesn't he have a name? She can't believe she will now be called Xalia Wade. Up until a few hours ago, she thought she would be called Xalia Harrison. She thought about Kyle again and tears clouded her eyes. She fought them back and breathed out a little.
"With the power given to me, I now pronounce you man and wife, you may kiss the bride." She heard the priest say snapping her out of her thoughts.
'What? Kiss the bride?' She screamed in her head and the guy leaned closer to her, Xalia could feel her heart stop as they became inches apart, he glanced at her face before placing a peck on her cheek which looked like a kiss to the priest and the
crowd. They already exchanged rings and she glanced at her hand before looking at him.
The crowd cheered and he suddenly held her hand, she looked at him and their hands, he didn't lock hands with her, he held her hand like he was holding a kid's hand.
He walked off the altar with her and she noticed that he headed for the door as the crowd cheered.
'Where is he taking me?' She thought as she looked around for her mother and Allision, she found them among the crowd, her mother put on a smile and cheered alongside with the crowd while Allison looked worried as he pulled her out.
'Is her mother really not going to do anything?' She thought.
They got outside the church and she saw a car waiting for them, they both got it and the chauffeur drove away immediately, she gasped silently and looked back at the church.
"Where are we going?" She asked the guy, he didn't pay attention to her, all he did was go through his phone.
"Answer me, where are you taking me?" She asked in fear and he still ignored her, she felt so scared her hands started to tremble and tears clouded her eyes.
"Please, where are you taking me?" She asked in tears and the guy turned to her, he watched as the tears streamed down her eyes and she sniffed like a child.
"New Jersey." He replied and turned back to his phone, her eyes widened in shock and she looked back at the church which was now far away then the guy.
"What? New Jersey? Why? I don't know what is going on, I feel so scared and confused." She cried ruffling her hair, she felt so frustrated and heartbroken, everything happened in a flash. Her whole life changed in minutes.
She cried silently as she tried to think about what could be going on, she really needs to speak with Kyle, he is the reason for all this, and he should know what is going on.
She realised she was not with her phone and she whimpered.
"Stop that." She heard his voice and she turned to him confused.
"Huh?"
"Stop that." He repeated without turning to her. Why is he ordering her?
"Stop what?" She asked faintly and sniffed.
"That." He replied and turned to her, she stared back at him and noticed his eyes for the first time, he had brown eyes.
"Are you going to cry all the way?" He asked and she didn't respond, all she did was sniff and another tear rolled down.
He rolled his eyes and suddenly brought out a briefcase under the seat, he opened it and brought out a paper and pen, he stretched it towards her and she gave him a questioning look before taking it.
"What is this?" She asked, looking at it, she could see her father's signature on the paper alongside another one.
"The vacant spot is where you are to sign." He replied and continued with his phone.
"Sign what?"
"That you agree to have been sold to me by the McCalls."
"Huh? What?"
"You were sold to me."
"How much?" She found herself asking and he looked up at her.
"Your whole family is wrapped around my finger and I can take anything I want from them."
"And you took me? Why?" She asked, and for some reason, she felt okay with being sold, she wasn't surprised, it is one thing her father could do.
"You will know soon."
MINUTES LATER
Xalia looked around nervously as they headed towards a plane, her husband walked with her alongside men dressed in suits. They stepped into the plane and a pilot walked to them.
"Where to sir?" He asked.
"Hawaii." He replied and the pilot bowed before walking away, Xalia turned to him with a questioning look.
"I thought you said we are heading to New Jersey."
"What is a wedding without a honeymoon?" He replied coldly and walked to a seat, he sat and Xalia looked around before slowly walking to take the seat next to him.
Her mind was still troubled about everything that was going on, she really needed to speak to Kyle, she didn't have her phone or any of her things with her.
"What about my things?" She asked as she slowly took a seat next to him, he was going through the documents she signed earlier.
"They are here."
"What about... "
"Shut up." He cut her off and Xalia's eyes widened in shock, he just shunned her. She bit her lip slightly and exhaled, how the hell did she get into this mess?
*******
HOURS LATER
AT NIGHT
Xalia felt a soft tap on her cheeks and she slowly opened her eyes, she looked around and her eyes fell on a man, she frowned and it took her a few seconds to recall what has happened all day and the man next to her is her husband.
"If you are done thinking, get out of the plane." He said snapping her out of her thoughts and standing up, he walked out and she exhaled. She slowly stood up and walked out, she met him talking to some men in suits and he looked back at her.
'Isn't he going to wait for me?' She thought as she walked closer to him, she caught up with him and the men bowed at him.
She looked around the runway and sighed, her gown was starting to make her uncomfortable, it was hard to walk in it.
"Let's go." He said and walked ahead of her.
"Ugh, can you slow down? It is hard to walk in this, you know." She yelled and he ignored her, she groaned and held the dress up with her hands and trailed behind him.
They both got to a car and entered, Xalia rolled her eyes and turned to look out the window as the car moved.
They both didn't say a word to each other till they got to their destination, Xalia got out of the car and huffed, she was really getting frustrated in the dress.
She noticed cars behind them and she turned to the house, it is a small house but it looks classy and pretty.
Men in black came out of the car carrying bags and they walked into the house, minutes later they came out, bowed to her husband and left, including the car that brought them.
She looked at her husband and he walked into the house, she scoffed and followed, she finally got into the house and she breathed out.
'Not bad.' She thought as she slowly climbed the stairs, she saw the door to a room open and she walked in, she met him taking off his tuxedo and she bit her lip.
She really had a lot of questions for him but she doubted she could get a reply.
"Hmm, I... I... Where are my things?" She stuttered and he looked at her.
"In the next room." He replied and took off his wristwatch and she nodded.
She turned to leave when she realised she doesn't even know the name of the man she is married to.
"What is your name?"
He ran his hands through his hair and exhaled.
"Draven." He replied and Xalia nodded.
"Draven, that's a nice name." She said but he ignored her, she tried to ask him more questions but she noticed he was busy going through his stuff, she slowly walked out of his room and headed to the room next to it.
She got in and met her things in the room, she looked around the room and was satisfied with the interior decor, she hurriedly took off her wedding gown and changed into something comfortable, she exhaled and fell on the king-sized bed, she tried to think about how her day went but it was cut short as she drifted to sleep.
*******
THE NEXT DAY
MORNING
"I need everything to be ready before I get back." Xalia heard a voice say in her sleep.
"Tell me the amount of the expenses, I will transfer all the amount you need." She heard the same voice say and she slowly opened her eyes, she saw Draven tucking his phone in his pocket and she yawned.
She felt something heavy on her and she tried moving her body but she couldn't, she looked at her hands and she realised they were tied to the bed.
"What the fuck?" She muttered and turned back to Draven, he put his hands in his pants pocket and stared at her.
She looked at her legs and she noticed they were tied with a weird metal rod.
"What the fuck is all these?" She asked and tried freeing herself, she tried freeing her legs but the metal rod enhanced automatically and spread her legs apart and she whimpered in pain.
Her thighs became visible and her heart started to race, what the fuck is going on?
She is tied to a bed and in front of her is the man she knew yesterday and got married to him.
"I was hoping you would do that." He said as he kept staring at her, Xalia stared back at him as a thousand thoughts ran through her mind.
'Who the hell is he? A murderer? What is his connection with the McCalls?'
"That is a spreader bar, don't resist or it will get worse."
"What the fuck is this all about and why the fuck am I tied to the bed?" She asked angrily
"Don't worry, you will get what this is all about soon but quick question?"
"What?"
"Draven Wade, does that ring a bell?"
"Huh?"
