Olivia was just a pawn, an obstacle neatly moved aside. Heartbroken and enraged, she fled, only to be reminded of her heroic parents and a fierce new purpose ignited within her. After giving up everything to find her, Ethan and Mark finally located Olivia two years later. Introduction

For five years, Olivia loved Mark. But his heart belonged to another, so he decided to destroy her reputation, framing her as a cheater and ruining her name in their tight-knit community.

Just as she was about to end it all, Mark' s brother, Ethan, pulled her back, whispering promises of love and marriage. He seemed like her savior, shielding her from gossip and rebuilding her confidence.

But on the eve of their wedding, Olivia overheard Ethan revealing the truth: their marriage was a sham, designed to clear Mark' s name and allow him to marry his true love, Sophia. Olivia was just a pawn, an obstacle neatly moved aside.

Heartbroken and enraged, she fled, only to be reminded of her heroic parents and a fierce new purpose ignited within her.

After giving up everything to find her, Ethan and Mark finally located Olivia two years later. They begged for forgiveness, but she kept them at arm's length, even after they saved her life in a deadly attack.

Now, she's leaving again, for good this time, choosing freedom over their desperate apologies.

Chapter 1

For five years, Olivia Reed had loved Mark Thompson. But his heart had always belonged to another woman, Sophia Miller.

Their engagement was a promise between two powerful families, not a bond of love. Mark made that clear every day.

To finally break free, he didn't ask her to end it. He decided to destroy her.

The photos appeared online overnight. Grainy pictures of Olivia entering a hotel room with a man she' d never met. The story was simple and vicious: she was a cheater.

In their small, well-connected community, her reputation was ruined in a single morning. Whispers followed her in the grocery store. Old friends crossed the street to avoid her.

Mark' s family, the Thompsons, were silent. Mark himself was unreachable. He had gotten what he wanted.

Olivia stood on the edge of the city bridge, the cold wind whipping at her hair. The river below looked dark and final. The humiliation was a physical weight, pressing down on her until she could barely breathe. There was nothing left.

"Olivia, don' t."

A hand grabbed her arm, pulling her back from the ledge.

It was Ethan Thompson, Mark' s younger brother. His face was filled with a pain that seemed to mirror her own.

"He' s not worth it," Ethan said, his voice raw.

He pulled her into an embrace, holding her tight as she trembled.

"I love you, Olivia," he whispered into her hair. "I always have. While he was chasing Sophia, I was watching you. Please, give me a chance. Marry me."

His words were a lifeline in the darkness. He was her savior. He showered her with affection, shielding her from the gossip and rebuilding her shattered confidence. For the first time in years, Olivia felt seen. She let go of Mark and fell into the comforting arms of his brother.

The wedding was planned quickly. A fresh start.

On the eve of the ceremony, Olivia walked past the study, intending to say goodnight to Ethan' s mother. She heard voices inside and paused.

"It' s all settled, Mom," Ethan was saying, his voice low and confident. "Once I marry Olivia tomorrow, she' s officially out of the picture. The scandal will die down, and she' ll be my wife, no longer his problem."

Mrs. Thompson sighed. "And Mark will be free?"

"Yes," Ethan confirmed. "He can finally marry Sophia without any tarnish on his name. This was the only way to clean up his mess and get him what he wants."

Olivia' s blood ran cold. Her savior was just another manipulator. She wasn' t a bride; she was an obstacle being neatly moved aside. A pawn in their disgusting game.

She backed away from the door, her hand covering her mouth to stifle a sob. She fled the house, running blindly into the stormy night. Rain soaked through her dress, and tears streamed down her face, indistinguishable from the downpour.

In her darkest moment, a flash of lightning illuminated a massive billboard across the street. It was an advertisement for the armed forces, honoring national heroes. Two of the faces on the billboard were achingly familiar.

Her parents.

They had died in service to their country. They were heroes.

And she was their daughter.

A new fire ignited in her soul, burning away the despair. She would not be weak. She would not be a victim.

Wiping the rain from her face, she turned and ran, not away from something, but toward a new purpose. She went to the home of Mr. Henderson, a close friend of her parents and a high-ranking official in a world she knew little about.

He opened the door, his eyes widening in surprise at her drenched appearance.

"I want to join," she said, her voice steady despite the shiver in her bones. "I want to serve, like they did."

Mr. Henderson' s expression grew serious. He led her inside, warning her of the immense sacrifice.

"This isn' t just a job, Olivia. It' s a complete erasure. A new identity, a lifetime of secrecy. You will sever all ties. There is no turning back."

Olivia reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, heavy object. It was her father' s medal, its ribbon stained with a faint, dark spot she knew was his blood. She clutched it tightly.

"I understand," she said, her voice unwavering. "My old life is over anyway."

He placed a set of documents in front of her. She signed her name, her hand firm. As she wrote, she noted the date at the top of the page. It was the same date as her planned wedding to Ethan.

With a final stroke of the pen, Olivia Reed ceased to exist. She had broken free from the Thompsons, not as a victim, but as a soldier.

Chapter 2

A strange sense of calm settled over Olivia as she left Mr. Henderson' s house. The decision was made. The weight of the Thompson family and their web of lies lifted from her shoulders.

When she returned to the Thompson home to gather her few belongings, she found Ethan in the living room. He wasn' t alone. Sophia Miller was sitting on the sofa, her foot propped up on a pillow.

"Oh, Olivia, you' re back," Ethan said, jumping up. He looked flustered. "Sophia sprained her ankle. I was just helping her."

Sophia gave Olivia a small, sickly sweet smile. "Ethan is so kind. He dropped everything to come take care of me." She subtly shifted, making it clear how devoted he was.

Then, Sophia' s eyes landed on a designer dress hanging on the back of a chair. It was the dress Ethan had bought for Olivia for their honeymoon.

"What a beautiful dress," Sophia sighed dramatically. "I wish I had something so lovely to wear to my engagement party with Mark."

Before Olivia could say a word, Ethan took the dress off the chair. "Here, you take it," he said to Sophia. "I' m sure Olivia wouldn' t mind."

He didn' t even look at Olivia.

He justified his actions with a practiced excuse. "Mark is away on business, and you' re his fiancée. It' s my duty to look out for you."

Olivia saw right through it. This wasn't obligation. It was a deep, unwavering affection that he had never shown her.

Sophia' s gaze then moved to a set of new, modern furniture that had just been delivered for Olivia and Ethan' s new home. "And that furniture is gorgeous! It would look perfect in my new house."

Ethan, taking Olivia' s silence as consent, beamed. "Of course! I' ll help you move it over right now."

The sight of him cheerfully carrying away the furniture that was meant for their life together was a final, bitter confirmation.

In the days that followed, Ethan was constantly at Sophia' s house, supposedly helping her arrange the new furniture. He seemed to feel a pang of guilt, or perhaps just the need to keep up appearances before the wedding that he still thought was happening. He made a point to take Olivia out for a "date night."

At the restaurant, he was the perfect fiancé. He ordered all of Olivia' s favorite dishes, making meticulous requests to the waiter.

"Your husband is so thoughtful," the waiter commented with a smile.

Olivia looked straight at the waiter, her voice flat. "No, he' s not my husband."

Ethan, oblivious to the coldness in her tone, just laughed. "Not officially, yet! Give us a few more days."

She just stared back at him, her expression unreadable.
