Chapter 1 The Billionaire's Ultimatum

Isabella's hands trembled as she stared at the legal document resting on the mahogany desk.

The title bolded at the top read: MUTUAL MATRIMONIAL AGREEMENT.

"You expect me to marry you?" Her voice cracked, betraying the fierce defiance she was trying to project.

Adrian Blackwood leaned back in his leather chair. His custom-tailored dark suit screamed power. His jet-black hair was perfectly styled, framing a face carved from granite. But it was his eyes-cold, calculating, and piercingly gray-that made Isabella feel completely naked.

"I don't expect anything, Isabella," Adrian murmured, his deep voice sending an involuntary shiver down her spine. "I am offering a business transaction. You desperately need money. I need a wife."

"A transaction?" Isabella let out a bitter laugh. "You cornered me! You bought my mother's bank debt. You know the house will be auctioned off in forty-eight hours if I don't pay millions. And you call this a choice?"

"You can walk out that door right now," Adrian countered smoothly.

He didn't blink. He didn't have to.

He knew she couldn't leave.

Isabella looked back at the numbers on the page. The signing bonus alone would wipe out her family's crippling debt instantly. It would save the home her mother had bled for. It was the answer to every single one of her prayers.

And that made Adrian Blackwood the most dangerous man in the world.

"Why me?" she demanded, glaring at him. "You're a billionaire, Adrian. You could have any supermodel or heiress in the city."

"I don't want them," he replied instantly. "I want you."

The sheer intensity in his gaze made her breath catch. There was a dangerous aura around this man. The rumors were true: Adrian Blackwood never lost a negotiation. And right now, he had her trapped.

"What are the terms?" she asked, her voice dropping.

"Twelve months," Adrian said, his gaze locked on her lips. "We attend public galas together. We present a united front to the media. No interference in private affairs. And absolutely no divorce until the year is up."

"And what about... intimacy?" Isabella's heart hammered against her ribs.

Adrian's eyes darkened, a flash of something fierce and predatory crossing his features before it vanished. "There will be no love in this marriage, Isabella. I prefer it that way."

His coldness stung her unexpectedly. "My answer is no," she snapped, slamming the folder shut. "I won't sell myself to a monster."

She stood up, grabbed her purse, and marched toward the door.

"Isabella," Adrian's voice halted her right at the threshold. She didn't turn around, but her muscles went rigid. "You have until tomorrow morning at nine. If you don't sign, the bulldozers roll in on Friday."

Tears pricked her eyes. She slammed the door behind her, rushing into the elevator. She wanted to hate him. She needed to hate him. But as she stepped out into the pouring rain, a dangerous question consumed her mind:

Why was a ruthless billionaire so obsessed with binding her to his side?

Chapter 2 The Billionaire's Secret

On the top floor of the Blackwood Empire skyscraper, Adrian stood rigid by the floor-to-ceiling glass window.

Outside, the storm raged, mirroring the chaos in his chest. Below, the city streets were blurred by heavy sheets of rain. Yet, his eyes instantly locked onto a single, delicate figure rushing out of the building.

It was Isabella.

She ran into the downpour, her small shoulders hunched against the wind. Even from this height, he could sense her pride-shattered but still fiercely defiant.

Adrian's jaw clenched so tightly that the muscles in his face ached with a sharp, throbbing pain.

He wanted to run down there. He wanted to throw his expensive coat over her shoulders and carry her away from the cold. But he couldn't. Not yet.

Suddenly, the silence of the massive office was broken. His phone buzzed violently on the sleek mahogany desk.

Adrian didn't break his stare from the window. He reached out blindly, swiping the screen open and placing the phone to his ear.

"Did she sign?" the voice on the other end demanded immediately. It was low, tense, and dripping with anxiety. It was his private investigator, Marcus.

"Not yet," Adrian muttered, his voice sounding like gravel. "She walked out."

Marcus let out a heavy, ragged sigh over the line. "She walked out? Adrian, you pushed her too hard. She isn't like the corporate sharks you usually deal with. She has a heart."

"She will sign," Adrian growled, his knuckles turning white as his grip on the phone tightened to the breaking point. "She has no choice. I've backed her into a corner. By tomorrow morning, she will realize that I am the only shield she has left."

"Adrian... are you really sure about this madness?" Marcus's tone dropped to a cautious whisper. "You are playing a dangerous game. If she ever finds out the real reason you targeted her-if she learns what happened to her father fifteen years ago-she will hate you forever. She will never look at you again."

The mention of her father felt like a physical blow to Adrian's chest. The dark memory threatened to swallow him whole.

The corporate war. The betrayal. The bloodline that had been ruined because of the Blackwood family name.

"She won't find out," Adrian rasped, his voice dropping into a dangerous, chilling registry. "I've buried the files. I've bought the judges. I only need one year, Marcus. One year to protect her from the people who are still tracking her family's lineage. One year to right the wrongs of the past."

"And what if your plan fails?" Marcus pushed, his voice filled with dread. "What if she falls in love with you before the twelve months are up? What happens to her heart when the truth finally explodes?"

Adrian slowly tore his gaze away from the rainy street. He looked over at the desk, where the pristine marriage contract sat under the dim office light.

A sharp, agonizing ache bloomed in his chest-a sudden, suffocating emotion he wasn't prepared for. He quickly forced it down, burying his vulnerability beneath a thick mask of absolute ice.

"There will be no love in this house," Adrian whispered darkly into the receiver. "I am the villain in her story, Marcus. I will make sure she never loves a monster like me."

Before Marcus could reply, Adrian hung up.

He tossed the phone onto the desk. The silence rushed back into the room, heavy and suffocating.

Adrian walked back to the glass window, his chest heaving. He watched as Isabella's figure finally disappeared into the crowded subway entrance down below.

He was lying to Marcus. Worse, he was lying to himself.

He didn't just want her signature to ease his guilt. He didn't just want a legal arrangement.

He wanted her. He wanted her smiles, her defiance, her warmth, and the fiery spirit that had captured him from the moment he saw her.

Adrian's eyes darkened with a terrifying, predatory possessiveness.

"Let them try to take you from me," he whispered into the empty room, his breath fogging the cold glass.

His enemies were closing in, and Chad was already moving his pieces. But Adrian Blackwood never lost a war. He would burn this entire city to ash and ruin anyone who dared to look at her before he let a single soul touch his contract wife.

Chapter 3 The Threat at the Bakery

The rain soaked Isabella to the bone, but the cold outside was nothing compared to the ice freezing her chest.

She arrived at her mother's small neighborhood bakery, her hands trembling violently as she tried to fit the key into the lock.

Inside, the lights were already blazing.

Isabella frowned, pushing the door open. Her mother was supposed to be resting at home.

Sitting casually at the front counter wasn't her mother. It was a man in an expensive, sleek suit, lazily swirling a cup of coffee with a smug smirk on his face.

Chad. Her ex-fiancé.

"What are you doing here?" Isabella demanded, wiping the rainwater from her forehead. "We broke up six months ago, Chad. Get out before I call the police."

Chad chuckled, a low, condescending sound that made Isabella's stomach churn.

Six months ago, she had caught him in bed with her own stepsister, Victoria. She had walked away instantly, but Chad had promised he would make her regret it.

"I'm just admiring the view, Bella," Chad sneered, gesturing around the warm, flour-dusted bakery.

"Enjoy it while it lasts. By Friday morning, this entire building belongs to my family's firm."

Isabella froze. Her breath hitched in her throat. "What are you talking about?"

"Did you really think your mother suddenly lost millions in bad investments by accident?"

Chad stood up, walking toward her with slow, predatory steps.

"Your mother is naive. My father and Victoria's mother set the trap months ago. We bought up her supplier debts, squeezed her bank accounts, and forced the foreclosure."

Tears of pure rage pricked Isabella's eyes. The room spun around her.

"You... you ruined an innocent woman just to get back at me?"

"I told you, Bella. Nobody dumps a corporate heir like me and walks away clean," Chad whispered, his eyes gleaming with malicious satisfaction.

"But I'm a generous man. Come back to my bed. Become my secret mistress, and I might convince my father to give your mother a small apartment to rent."

Slap!

The sharp sound echoed through the empty bakery.

Chad's head snapped to the side. His cheek instantly turned bright red.

His face contorted with dark, ugly fury. He lunged forward, gripping Isabella's wrist tightly. His fingers dug mercilessly into her skin.

"You bitch! You think you still have options? You're broke! You're nothing!" Chad screamed in her face. "By Friday, you and your pathetic mother will be begging on the streets!"

"Let go of her."

A voice, deeper and colder than the winter wind, sliced through the tension in the room.

Chad spun around, his anger instantly vanishing, replaced by pure terror.

Standing in the doorway of the bakery was Adrian Blackwood.

Two massive bodyguards stood right behind him, completely blocking the exit. Rain glistened on the sharp shoulders of Adrian's dark overcoat, making him look like the grim reaper himself.

"B-Blackwood?" Chad stammered, his grip on Isabella loosening completely. "What are you doing here? This is private business."

Adrian didn't look at Chad. His gray eyes were locked onto Isabella's bruised wrist.

When he finally looked up at Chad, the murderous intent in his gaze was terrifying.

"I don't care about your business," Adrian said smoothly, taking a slow, dominant step forward.

"But you are holding the wrist of my future wife."

Chad gasped, his eyes widening. "W-Wife? She's a nobody!"

Adrian didn't answer with words. He gestured slightly with his hand.

Within a split second, his two bodyguards moved. One grabbed Chad by the collar, slamming him hard against the counter, while the other forced his arms behind his back.

"Let me go! My father will sue you!" Chad screamed, his face pale with fear.

Adrian walked up to Chad, leaning in closely. His voice was a deadly whisper.

"Tell your father that as of five minutes ago, Blackwood Enterprises bought out your family's bank loans. By tomorrow morning, your firm is bankrupt. You are ruined, Chad."

"No... you can't do this!" Chad cried out as the bodyguards dragged him kicking and screaming out into the pouring rain.

The bakery fell dead silent.

Isabella stood there, her heart hammering against her ribs. She looked at Adrian, completely overwhelmed.

He had just destroyed her worst enemy in seconds, without breaking a sweat.

Adrian turned to her, his expression returning to a cold, unreadable mask. He reached into his coat and pulled out the legal folder from earlier.

He laid it flat on the bakery counter.

"The pen is in the folder, Isabella," Adrian whispered, his eyes burning with intense, scary possessiveness.

"Sign it, and no one will ever touch you again."

Isabella looked at the contract, then looked into his dangerous gray eyes. She knew she was entering a golden cage. She knew he was a monster.

But right now, he was the only monster capable of protecting her.

With shaking fingers, Isabella picked up the pen and pressed it to the paper.

Suddenly, her phone vibrated in her pocket. It was a text from an unknown number.

She looked down, and her breath stopped.

Don't sign it, Isabella. Adrian Blackwood is the one who destroyed your father.
