Chapter 1 Stolen Glances

Like a wish come true, summer had finally arrived.

Even though it was fashionably late, it arrived with a kind of heat that people welcomed almost instantly. The streets were littered with people in all age ranges - from kids in swimsuits and shorts to grannies wearing shades that had since gone out of fashion.

There was so much activity everywhere- I mean that much was obvious.

The park was alive with kids and high school kids each in a different section, couples and tired parents laid on blankets on the grass chatting and laughing among themselves.

The air was sweet with a promise of even better summer days but as sweet and promising as the atmosphere was some people didn't want any more of it but that was not the case of a certain couple.

Inside an air conditioned restaurant, away from all the heat and fuss beyond the walls of the sturdy building a couple sat in perhaps the darkest and most inviting corner of the room. For some reason they seemed to not be in the same world as everyone else, it was clear that they were lost in their own special world.

The intensity at which they glanced at each other could light up a dishcloth if they paid attention to anything else in their surroundings.

A fine male sat opposite an equally stunning woman both of them fascinating to look at yet simple in a unique sense. He had such strikingly blue eyes. Those were probably the first alluring feature that anyone would point out on him and his happiness was as clear as diamond as it shone bright in his eyes.

Next was his beautifully sculpted face. He had that kind of face that you would not want to look at after a first glance because you thought it was too perfect to be real. With trimmed eyebrows, minimal eyelashes, a pointed nose, daring cheekbones, tempting lips and the straightest jawline you ever saw.

In simple terms, he was an Adonis.

"Carter!" the woman opposite him squealed, pressing her own handkerchief to her mouth to hide her laughter.

The man, Carter grinned showing pearly white teeth and a smile that could tug the heartstrings of any lady.

"It's the truth Eleanor. And you know it."

Eleanor smiled dropping the handkerchief that she had been holding onto her lap.

She shook her head at him trying to feign a disappointed look. "That's not true."

Carter laughed at her poor acting lifting his wine glass to his lips to take a sip of the wine they had been served nearly an hour ago.

He dropped the glass dabbing at his mouth like an English baron.

"Believe whatever you want to believe," he teased.

Resting his elbows on the draped table he leaned forward and dropped his voice, "Just know that you helped me prove my point by laughing."

Eleanor desperately fought with her mind to keep the smile from blossoming on her face but she couldn't help it and a second later she burst into another fit of laughter.

The other diners paid no heed to her laughter or their rather loud conversations. By the time the first hour passed they were already accustomed to it. So looking at them hoping to shush them would be a failed attempt.

Her dark hair fell gracefully to somewhere around her mid-back. It was that long even as she had packed it into a ponytail. Her face showed how young she was and her natural beauty was evident even without make-up.

A single necklace sat on her neck, minimal but eye-catching. It didn't particularly go with the dress she put on but honestly she didn't care about that at all. The necklace was a gift from her grandmother since when she was a little girl, she adored it the moment she set her eyes on it and she wore it every day. In fact she almost never took it off.

Eleanor was calm and effortlessly creative.

She would have been a sought out star if she didn't have the habit of stepping on people's toes unintentionally she would have been loved by many more people. But even as she was now, she was content, she hoped for nothing for she felt she had everything she needed.

Starting with the man seated across her.

She stared at him dreamily, remembering the memories they had shared in the past months so much time had passed she realized.

It was only recently that she believed the phrase, 'So much time passes by when you're doing something you love.'

Carter stared at Eleanor, wondering what was going on inside her pretty head. He knew she had a habit of zooming off into space right in the middle of an activity or conversation. Why and what she was always thinking about, he would never know.

"Eleanor."

On calling her name again he used the tip of his fingers to touch her arm. She jerked feeling the tingles that danced inside her veins and on her skin.

Carter hid a smile and with Ezra his hand from her skin, the sparks he felt from touching her skin made his fingers silently tremble.

At an early stage in their relationship they had already known each other's true identities. Carter was a hybrid wolf while Eleanor believed that she was a half werewolf and so this made them more compatible than each of them could understand.

"Is everything okay?"

Eleanor nodded and smiled at Carter.

"How about we get out of here?" Carter asked with a pleased glint dancing in his blue eyes.

Eleanor blushed and looked away from his intensifying gaze.

But she turned her head and met him with a daring look of her own. "Depends on what you want us to do after now."

Carter chuckled standing to his feet. "You'll know soon enough."

He went to her seat and helped her up like the perfect gentleman he was.

People watched without abandon as the glamorous couple made their way out of the restaurant.

Chapter 2 Twisted Devotion

As they stepped outside of the double doors of the restaurant warm rays of sunshine danced on Eleanor exposed shoulder and arms. Unconsciously, she tightened her arm around Carter's biceps letting her eyes feed on the scenery before her.

A smile flitted to her face when Carter's intoxicating scent wafted through her nostrils. She then remembered that she had a view she could never get tired of gazing at.

They had stopped walking now instead they were just standing on the sidewalk obstructing the path of people who were walking to their destination. She turned her head as slyly as she could so she could get a piece of the handsome man whose hand was wrapped securely around her waist.

To her greatest surprise he was already staring dreamily at her.

"Carter," she whispered allowing herself to be lost in the emotions that were swirling in his eyes.

Carter pulled her impossibly closer to his body until there was no inch of space between them. He buried his nose in her neck greedily inhaling her scent like he needed it to breathe more than oxygen, when he felt his senses were consumed by her sweet scent he leaned away from her neck and angled his head to kiss her instead.

He closed his eyes and pressed his lips to hers but not before he murmured more to himself than her.

"Damn you're so beautiful"

With an eagerness she herself had found hard to understand over the months they had been together, she kissed him with all of her heart putting as much passion as she felt into the kiss. In a matter of seconds their kiss deepened and it was just two of them in their own world again unhindered and unbothered by the people walking around or the people watching them.

No one seemed to be watching them, in anyone was watching it'd be just a quick glance and they'd look away.

But someone among the crowd of people watched the couple with raw disdain.

His name was Elijah.

Elijah is the son of Alpha Mason of the MoonFire Pack. He is a psycho who had been obsessed with Eleanor for a long time hence his current look of contempt at their public display of affection.

His face twisted in anger as he watched Eleanor and Carter intertwine their hands.

He should have been the one, he thought watching them walk down to the sidewalk where their car was parked, he watched as Carter opened the car door for Eleanor. Silently, he cursed both of them wrinkling the paper that was folded in his right palm.

Elijah thought that Eleanor was with the other Lycan (Carter) because he was richer than he was.

Anger blinded him even further and all that he could think of was the fact that he was not the man beside her.

He Eleanor from his seat just as their car drove out of the parking space.

"If I can't have her, no one will," he murmured gritting his teeth.

Resolved to make the decision that had been since lingering in his mind he left the sidewalk desperately gripping the paper the witch he had gone to see gave him in the early hours of the day.

Five Hours Earlier

"Don't tell me you're still hung up on that pitiful she-wolf," Luna Maeva scoffed walking into her son's office.

Elijah closed his eyes avoiding the gaze of his mother. If there was anyone in their entire pack who couldn't take rubbish in any form, it would be his mother, Luna Maeva.

It also didn't help that she was adamant and quick to action. Basically, she was someone that would go through any lengths no matter how disastrous to achieve the results she wanted.

"There are many more females kneeling at your feet Elijah, if you haven't noticed," she sneered gesturing with her arms.

Elijah groaned and Eleanor from his seat. His mother refused to believe that Eleanor was good enough for him and she refused to acknowledge his feelings towards Eleanor.

He wanted her, heck he didn't care if he was obsessed he wanted her for himself only.

"I want her Mother. I don't want anyone else," he stated looking out of one of the two windows in his office.

The sudden slam of his office door got his attention and alarmed he turned facing his mother.

Luna Maeva stared at Elijah with disgust, she was almost ashamed to call him her own son.

"No child of mine will talk like a peasant," she yelled taking a wide step toward him.

Elijah shut his mouth feeling the anger grow within him.

"Don't talk to me like that Mother," he yelled back feeling the nerve at the side of his head pulsing.

His mother remained unfazed at his tone instead she screamed louder. "Then talk like the Alpha you're going to be one day!"

"Fine!" Elijah roared tightening his hands into fists on either side of his body. "If I can't have Eleanor then no one will."

In a voice that would have scared the devil himself, Elijah calmly vowed, "I'm going to kill her."

For the first time that day, Luna Maeva smiled. A proud smile overtook her usually haughty expression. Her eyes crinkled and the lines around her mouth deepened showing the old age that she had tried to oh so desperately hide with her numerous make-up products.

"Now you're talking," she sang proudly.

In the next thirty minutes Luna Maeva arranged for a witch to meet them in a secluded part of the pack house. A strange kind of excitement danced through Elijah's veins, he was convinced that something was wrong with him.

His heart beat in anticipation and he could already imagine taking the life out of Eleanor since she refused to be his own.

"Luna Maeva," the witch greeted bowing her head as a sign of respect.

Luna Maeva waved her off and stretched forth her hand. Silently, the witch placed a paper in Luna Maeva's hand. Then the eerie looking witch turned to face Elijah.

"All you have to do is say the words on the paper when you feel the time is right," the witch explained.

"That's all?" Elijah asked not believing that all he had to do was say the words on a paper. His mother handed him the paper with a cruel smile.

"Yes, young Alpha. Say the word and she'll be dead."

Chapter 3 Whispers After Midnight

Present Time

There were two things Eleanor was sure she would never stop looking at, one was Carter's handsome face and the second was his magnificent mansion.

Like every other time she had been here she gazed out of the window of the Audi they were in staring at the statue of a giant wolf that stood gallantly in the roundabout just before the big building that had more than enough rooms she could count with her fingers and toes.

The giant wolf statue represented Carter's true identity. Anyone who really knew him would acknowledge the power and grace that the mere statue seemed to have, any other person would just think that it was a magnificent piece of art.

But that wasn't the only structure that was mesmerizing, just about everything thing else on Carter's three acres of land was. From his well-kept flower garden that was home to different types of roses, lilacs, and lilies to the outdoor recreational park that was just behind the mansion along with an infinity pool that he rarely swam in.

His mansion showed how rich and extravagant his lifestyle was. As a business tycoon with many organizations and companies under his name, it was only fitting that he lived in a place that represented the amount of wealth he had amassed at an early age of 25.

Carter hummed as Eleanor gazed out of the car window, today he decided he wasn't going to park the car to let her further admire the statue like they always did.

Instead he decided he was going to hold her close for the remaining time they had to spend together come Monday morning and he won't even have enough time to have lunch together.

Yes, his life was just that busy.

The sound of the engine cut off as Carter pressed down on the engine button. Silence engulfed both of them once again until Eleanor cleared her throat and turned to face Carter in his seat.

"So..." she drawled holding his inviting gaze. "What are we going to do now?"

Carter merely smiled and pulled open his car door. He climbed out of the car and shut it.

Adjusting the lapels of his jacket he walked around to the other side of the car and like the perfect gentleman he was, he pulled open the passenger door for Eleanor.

Not surprised in any way Eleanor gave him her hand to help her out of the car.

When she was standing face to face with him, Carter Ezra her in by turning her body around so that her back was pressed to his chest.

He wrapped his hand around her waist and whispered huskily into her ear.

"How does a cold bath and lots of cuddles after sound to you?"

In the living room, a stand-up comedy played from the 100 inch smart TV that was mounted on a metal contraption. Dazzling chandeliers in silver and gold colour hung from the high ceiling of the living room lighting up the room in a way that highlighted the intricate details of the architectural design.

The interior design of the room portrayed its delicateness and professionalism in every corner you looked. Nothing seemed to be too much or out of taste.

Carter leisurely strolled into the living room with Eleanor in tow. The duo just finished freshening up and were getting ready to spend their evening together.

"Is there anything you want me to make for dinner?" Eleanor asked stopping in her tracks.

Carter shrugged and landed ungracefully on the long sofa that was directly facing the flat TV.

"Anything you make is fine babe."

Eleanor rolled her eyes and walked to where he sat choosing to stand thereby blocking his view from the TV he had his gaze glued to.

"I'd eat anything you give me," he responded staring intently at Eleanor. He sighed and leaned further into the soft cushions of the chair.

"Actually, I think I'd rather have you here beside me," he mumbled staring into Eleanor's eyes. Eleanor sighed allowing herself to melt under Carter's gaze. Feeling resigned she sunk into the sofa beside him and pressed herself to his warm muscular body.

"We could just order dinner," Carter suggested stroking Eleanor's hair which was still damp from their bath.

At his suggestion, Eleanor made a small sound of protest at the back of her throat.

"If that's what you want," she agreed resting her back against the soft cushion of the couch.

Carter pecked her forehead the stood up from the couch fishing his phone out of the pocket to make their order. In a matter of minutes the food arrived and the couple ate in comfortable silence throwing each other smiles and secretive glances. After they had their dinner they settled in front of the TV and watched a Comedy until Eleanor could barely keep her eyes open. Quietly, Carter put off the television and turned to Eleanor who was stretched across the sofa to carry her.

His hands were just about to go around her waist when he sensed something change in the air. Something wasn't right he thought. He Eleanor to his full height glancing at Eleanor and then around the living room. His eyes scanned everything in the room but he couldn't put a lid on what exactly was wrong.

The clock hanging on the side wall read five minutes past midnight but he disregarded that fact even though he was well aware of the evils that happened at night.

"Something doesn't feel right," he muttered under his breath stealthily moving away from the couch.

Carter heard a loud howl rip through the silence in the mansion and at once his hunches Eleanor. Before he could take another step the lights flickered and the chandeliers above them rattled noisily.

It seemed like a scene out of a horror movie.

Carter growled and rushed to Eleanor's sleeping form feeling the urgent need to protect her from whatever it was that was lurking in the shows.

"Eleanor! Eleanor!" Carter hastily called shaking her shoulder.

She woke up with a jolt and a confused expression.

"What's going on?" she mumbled the minute she noticed the jerking chandeliers and the flicking lights.

Carter looked around simultaneously helping Eleanor up.

"I don't what it is but something doesn't feel right."
