Mandy Norton woke up to the faint sound of birds chirping outside her window. The morning sun was just beginning to filter through the curtains, casting a soft, golden glow across the room.
For a moment, she forgot everything-her life felt almost peaceful. But then she turned to her bedside table and saw the white envelope resting there like a ghost from the past.
With trembling hands, she reached for it. As she tore open the envelope, her heart pounded in her chest. Her breath caught when she saw the words she had feared for so long: **Divorce Papers**.
Mandy's world shattered. It wasn't just the paper-it was everything it represented. The end of her marriage, the end of her dreams, the end of the life she had planned with Ramsey.
Tears welled up in her eyes, and she began to sob, her body shaking with grief.
"How could he do this to me?" she whispered into the empty room.
And then her sorrow turned to anger.
"Serena Fenton," she spat, venom in her voice. "That snake. She slithered into his life and stole him away from me."
Serena Fenton, CEO of Ramsey's tech company, had come into their lives like a hurricane. She was everything Mandy wasn't-bold, confident, sexy.
Mandy hated her for it.
And now, because of Serena, Ramsey was leaving her. A fresh wave of tears came over her, and she collapsed back onto the bed, burying her face in the pillow.
After what felt like an eternity, she picked up her phone and dialed the one person she knew would understand-her sister, Bella.
Bella answered on the second ring, her voice as bubbly as ever. "Mandy! Long time, no talk! What's up?"
Mandy could barely speak through her tears. "Bella, he's leaving me," she choked out.
There was a pause on the other end of the line, then Bella's tone softened. "Oh, Mandy... not Ramsey?"
Mandy nodded, even though Bella couldn't see her. "He dropped the divorce papers before leaving this morning. I don't know what to do, Bella. I feel so lost."
Bella sighed, but Mandy could almost hear her thinking through the problem like it was a tricky puzzle. "Well, first things first, sis, you've got to sign those papers."
"What?" Mandy gasped. "Sign them? How could I do that?"
"Listen," Bella said, her voice filled with the kind of practical wisdom only she could pull off.
"Staying in this marriage isn't going to bring you any happiness. It's like holding onto a cactus-you're only hurting yourself. And besides, you know what they say: better out of a bad marriage than stuck in it, right?"
Mandy let out a shaky breath. "I just never thought it would end like this."
"Nobody ever does," Bella said gently. "But you're strong, Mandy. And you're not alone. Why don't you go back home? to Grandpa's place. It's not too late to start over."
Mandy hesitated. She knew she would not be accepted in the Norton's Mansion. Although It was the place where she'd grown up, surrounded by her family, yet it's still the place where she'd always felt like she didn't quite belong, most especially after what happened on her so-called wedding day.
And now, going back as a woman whose marriage had failed? It was almost too much to bear.
"I don't know, Bella," Mandy said, her voice small.
"Oh, come on," Bella insisted, her tone lightening again. "It's still your home. And besides, maybe you'll find some of Grandma's old recipes stuffed in the kitchen drawers. Remember those cookies she used to make?"
Mandy couldn't help but smile through her tears. Bella always had a way of finding the bright side, no matter how dark things seemed.
"Okay," Mandy said finally. "I'll go."
"Atta girl!" Bella cheered. "And don't worry about a thing. I'll be back soon enough, and we'll face this together. But for now, go home. Be strong."
Mandy ended the call feeling a little better, but the pit in her stomach remained. Signing the papers was one thing; facing her family was another.
---
Later that day, Mandy stood outside the grand entrance to her grandfather's mansion, clutching her suitcase in one hand and the divorce papers in the other. The mansion loomed over her, just as imposing as she remembered. She took a deep breath and pushed the heavy golden door open.
She barely had time to take in her surroundings before she was greeted by her cousin, Elsa, who eyed her up and down with a look of pure disdain. "Well, look who finally decided to crawl back," Elsa sneered.
Mandy tried to smile, but it faltered under Elsa's harsh gaze. "Hello, Elsa. It's... been a while."
"Not long enough," Elsa muttered, turning on her heel and disappearing down the hallway.
Mandy sighed and started towards the living room, where the rest of the family was gathered. As she entered, the conversation fell silent, and all eyes turned to her. Her cousin Rachel, sitting with her legs crossed and a smirk on her face, was the first to speak.
"Look who it is-Mrs. Ramsey," Rachel said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Or should I say, not-Mrs. Ramsey?"
The room erupted in mocking laughter, and Mandy felt her cheeks burn with shame. Her grandfather, sitting in his old steel armchair, didn't even bother to look at her.
"What a disgrace, Mandy! you are such a failure! I knew Elsa was a better bride for Ramsey than you. But your wicked soul would not let your cousin have what she deserved. Now look at you! you just ruined our ties with the Billionaire." he spatted, shaking his head.
Mandy's heart broke a little more with every word. She stood there, surrounded by her family, feeling smaller and smaller until she could barely hold back the tears. They didn't just mock her-they spat on her pain, rubbed salt in her wounds.
Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. "Ain't nobody got my back!?" she yelled, her voice cracking with emotion.
The room fell silent, and for a moment, Mandy felt completely alone. But then, from somewhere in the shadows, she heard a voice-calm, steady, and filled with a quiet strength.
"I got you, Mandy."
Mandy whipped around, her heart thudding in her chest. The voice had been soft, almost like a forgotten melody she once knew by heart. Standing there, with a mop in one hand and a lopsided grin on his face, was Dwight.
Yes, Dwight-the cleaner. And not just any cleaner, but the one who had stolen her heart before Ramsey swooped in like a villain in a cheap soap opera and forced her into marriage.
For a moment, Mandy forgot the world. Her eyes met Dwight's, and a spark of the old feelings ignited between them. She could have sworn she heard violins playing in the background-until the unmistakable sound of snickering broke the spell.
"Oh, look who's got her back!" Elsa drawled, her voice dripping with venom. "The cleaner and the unwanted wife. What a pair!" She chuckled.
Rachel, ever the sidekick, chimed in, "Maybe she can get a job as his assistant, so they can clean up the mess that is in her life!"
The laughter that followed was harsh and biting. Mandy wanted to crawl into a hole, but Dwight squeezed her hand, his warmth giving her a small but much-needed boost of courage.
The next day, Mandy's world brightened a little when Bella returned. Bella, her little sister, the one person in the family who didn't treat her like dirt under their expensive shoes. Bella was a breath of fresh air, with her bubbly personality and the kind of sense of humor that could turn a funeral into a party.
Mandy wasted no time pouring out her heart to Bella and Dwight. She told them everything-how Ramsey had treated her worse than a stray dog, how he had cheated on her with his CEO, Serena Fenton, a woman so icy she probably kept the air conditioning at Arctic levels just to feel at home. And then, as if things couldn't get worse, Mandy revealed the final bombshell: SHE WAS PREGNANT.
Dwight's face turned pale, while Bella's eyes narrowed.
"That snake," Bella hissed. "You need to tell him, Mandy. He needs to know he's making a huge mistake."
Mandy nodded, determined. She had to tell Ramsey, not because she wanted him back, but because he needed to know the consequences of his actions.
So she marched to his office, her heart heavy but her resolve firm.
Ramsey didn't even bother to look up when she entered.
"You've lost the right to my Territory, young woman! you can humbly get the fuck out, now! or I call the security on you."
His tone was as cold as Serena's personality.
"I'm pregnant, Ramsey," Mandy said, her voice trembling. "With YOUR child."
Ramsey finally looked up, and the look in his eyes was pure contempt. "You? Pregnant with my child? Don't make me laugh. Get rid of it. I'm not responsible for your bastard."
The words sliced through Mandy like a knife. But the pain quickly turned into anger. She straightened, her eyes blazing with fury.
"I swear with every bit of my being, Ramsey, you will pay for every tear you've caused me. I'll never forgive you."
Ramsey just smirked and called security to escort her out.
When Mandy returned to Bella and Dwight, she recounted every cruel word Ramsey had spat at her and how the security threw her out too.
Dwight was devastated but helpless.
Bella's face turned a shade of red that Mandy had only seen when Bella was about to explode.
"That's the height of it," Bella declared, grabbing her purse. "Give me his office address." She demanded.
"Bella, what are you-" Mandy began, but Bella was already halfway out the door after collecting his office address card.
"I'm going to make him pay, Mandy. I'll punish him myself. You watch and see."
Bella stormed into Ramsey's office without so much as a knock. There he was, leaning back in his chair like a king, with Serena Fenton perched on his desk like an ice sculpture.
Bella froze. She recognized Ramsey instantly. He was the guy from The Golden gate Bridge at San Francisco. He was the last person she expected to see at Los Angeles. It was a one time meeting with him, an unforgettable one, she never thought they would cross path again.
Bella heart melted to clay when the thought of Ramsey being her only sisters husband struck her. What the fuck! How could this be!
Bella and Ramsey shared a history, a dark one that neither of them ever talked about. So bad that it was buried before it ever happened.
Ramsey looked up, his smirk fading into surprise. "Bella? What are you doing here?"
Bella forced a smile, the kind that didn't reach her eyes. "Just visiting an old friend," she lied smoothly.
They exchanged numbers, a few veiled comments, and a tension-filled glance before Bella left. As she walked away, she couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of it all. If only Ramsey knew WHO SHE REALLY WAS...
Back at home, Bella found Mandy pacing the floor. "What happened?" Mandy asked, her eyes wide with worry.
"Nothing much," Bella lied to Mandy, for the first time in her life. "Just told him to stay away from you. You should forget about him, Mandy. Focus on yourself and the baby."
Mandy's shoulders sagged, What the fuck happened? Why did Bella enthusiasm to help her seek revenge die so fast? Is there something Bella is not saying?..
The weight of everything crashed down on her. Dwight, who had been silent this whole time, suddenly dropped to one knee. "Mandy," he said, his voice soft and sincere, "I can't bear to see you suffer like this. Will you marry me? I'll take care of you and the baby, I promise." He tied a piece of thread around her wrist, a makeshift engagement ring.
Mandy stared at him, shocked. But then, she nodded in agreement. She needed stability anyway, and Dwight was offering it.
The news of Mandy's engagement spread quickly, thanks to Bella, who made sure Ramsey heard it first. And Ramsey, well, he wasn't the type to take such news lightly.
But Bella had her reasons for wanting Ramsey's attention-and they were far from innocent.
Mandy's heart was heavy, but little did she know, the storm was just beginning to brew.
The next morning, she received an unexpected letter, wrapped in an envelope. She hesitated to open it...
Mandy's hands trembled as she tore open the envelope. Her heart pounded in her chest, a sickening mixture of dread and curiosity swirling in her stomach. The paper felt heavy between her fingers as she unfolded it, revealing a neatly folded newspaper inside. She swallowed hard, forcing herself to open it and see what horrible surprise awaited her this time.
The headline screamed at her: **"The Divorced and Rejected Wife of the Famous Billionaire Ramsey Wendel is Getting Married to the Norton's Cleaner, Dwight Cullen."**
Mandy's breath caught in her throat. The words blurred as tears welled up in her eyes. This was Ramsey's doing-she was sure of it. But how had he found out? How had he turned her humiliation into this public spectacle?
Sobs racked her body as she read the article's cruel words: **"Rumors swirl that Mandy Norton was caught cheating on her husband with her pauper lover, Dwight Cullen. Sources claim she is even pregnant with his child."**
Mandy screamed, her voice echoing through the Norton mansion. The shame was unbearable. Her reputation, her dignity, everything had been stripped away by the man who once vowed to love her. How could Ramsey do this to her? How could he be so heartless?
But as the pain coursed through her, it transformed into something else. Anger. Burning, seething anger. She would make Ramsey pay for this-no matter what it took. He wouldn't get away with destroying her life. Not this time.
The next day, Mandy was forced to marry Dwight Cullen in what could only be described as the most disgraceful wedding Los Angeles had ever seen. The courthouse was nearly empty, save for a few reporters and the judge. No friends, no family, just Mandy in a plain, cheap dress and Dwight looking more like a frightened boy than a groom.
The wedding made the headlines again: **"The Most Embarrassing Wedding in Los Angeles: Mandy Norton Weds the Nortons' Cleaner."**
Everywhere she went, people whispered, pointed, and laughed. Strangers on the street mocked her openly, some even throwing insults and snide comments as she passed. The humiliation was relentless, a constant reminder of her fall from grace.
At the mansion, things were no better. Mandy's cousins, Elsa and Rachel, took every opportunity to ridicule her, their voices dripping with contempt.
"Look at you, Mandy," Elsa sneered. "You were always so high and mighty, and now you're married to a cleaner. How the mighty have fallen!"
Rachel snickered, adding, "I guess Karma finally caught up with you. You didn't let Elsa marry Ramsey, and now look where you are!"
Their father, Uncle Mark, had returned from Tokyo with their brother Gerald, just in time to witness Mandy's disgrace. His eyes narrowed as he took in the sight of his niece and her new husband.
"Mandy, you deserve this," he said coldly. "The law of Karma has caught up with you. You had your chance with Ramsey, and you threw it away. Now, this is where you belong."
Gerald, the only grandson of the Norton family, took one look at Dwight and sneered. "pack your belongings and Get lost," he ordered. "You are fired. You and your cheap wife don't belong here."
Dwight fell to his knees, desperation etched across his face. "Please, sir, we have nowhere else to go. please Let us stay."
But Gerald was unmoved. He lashed out, delivering a brutal kick to Dwight's side. Dwight crumpled to the floor, clutching his ribs in pain.
"You're nothing but trash," Gerald spat. "You think you can just walk in here and take what's ours? Get out before I throw you out!"
Mandy stood frozen, tears streaming down her face as she watched Gerald beat her husband. She wanted to fight back, to defend Dwight, but the fear paralyzed her. How had her life come to this? How had she gone from being a respected woman to this?
In the midst of the chaos, Grandpa Benson Norton appeared, his weathered face filled with pity.
"Let them stay in the cottage at the corner of the mansion," he said softly. "At least give them that."
Gerald scowled but didn't argue. He simply gave Dwight one last kick before storming off. Dwight struggled to his feet, wincing in pain, and Mandy rushed to his side. Together, they limped to the small, rundown cottage at the edge of the Mansion.
The cottage was cold and damp, a far cry from the luxurious life Mandy had once known. But at least it was a roof over their heads. She and Dwight huddled together on the creaky bed, both of them weeping silently. The world had turned against them, but in that moment, they made a silent vow. The Nortons and the Wendels would pay for what they had done. They would regret the day they crossed Mandy Norton.
Meanwhile, Bella, who had been absent throughout the whole turmoil, was seen by Serena heading toward a luxurious hotel.
Serena, who didn't like her from their first meeting and felt intimidated by her, decided to follow her up to know her doings.
She secretly followed Bella all the way, hatred steaming up. Reaching the hotel, she discovered the most unexpected: Bella was having a secret affair with Ramsey.
Serena's heart shattered as she watched them, unable to confront them. She left the hotel unnoticed, her resolve hardening. She would find a way to hurt Ramsey for his betrayal! she will never let him go Scott free.
***
Hours passed, and night fell over the cottage. Mandy was cleaning Dwight's wounds, her hands gentle but firm as she patched him up. He winced with every touch, but he didn't complain. The humiliation and pain had taken a toll on both of them.
As she worked, Dwight's cheap, old phone buzzed on the nightstand. Mandy glanced at it, then at Dwight, who seemed too exhausted to care. She picked up the phone, the screen cracked and dirty, and saw an unknown number flashing on the screen.
"It's ringing," she said softly, holding the phone out to him.
Dwight groaned and took the phone from her, pressing it to his ear. "Hello?" he mumbled, his voice weak.
Mandy watched as his expression changed from weary to tense in an instant. His eyes widened, and he sat up straighter, clutching the phone tightly.
"Yes! I'm Dwight Cullen," he said, his voice now trembling with a mix of fear and confusion. He listened for a moment, and then suddenly, he screamed, "What?!"
The phone slipped from his hand and clattered to the floor as he stared ahead in shock. Mandy's heart raced as she reached for him, panic rising in her chest.
