Gina didn't expect that a traffic accident would drag her down into big trouble. When the police came to her, she was taken away as the culprit of a hit-and-run. What was waiting for her was the sky-high compensation. After she processed everything and was ready to explain herself, she met the accuser, Sammy. She swallowed the speech to defend herself and said yes to his claim. "Can I pay it in installments?" "I don't think it's a good deal, Gina. You know well what I want."

Chapter 1 Doomed Love

Darkness fell. Inside a bedroom, Gina Gu was forcefully being pressed onto a bed by a man whose eyes burned with a hungry passion.

Struggling to break free, she averted her gaze as the man leaned in to breathe on her neck.

Goose bumps formed all over her body and she trembled slightly. Mustering up the courage, she looked up to glare at the man, but his outline was barely discernible in the darkness.

"No... Sammy..."

But before she could finish her sentence, she suddenly felt a sharp pain between her legs.

The following morning, Gina woke up to the sun streaming in through the curtains.

However, the second she tried to move, a sharp pain shot up her body.

Groaning slightly, as her eyes adjusted to the light, she saw clothes scattered all over the floor. So, she wasn't dreaming; something actually happened last night.

Glancing at her side, she found a man lying next to her in bed, still deep in sleep.

With his chiseled features, toned muscles, and the nose of a Greek god, he was just perfect!

Despite what he did last night, she found herself still very deeply in love with him.

But she was never going to admit that to him, especially since Sammy hated her so much.

Without a word, Gina got out of bed, picked up her clothes, and tried to put them on as quickly and quietly as possible. But with every movement, she felt shooting pain from between her legs. Gritting her teeth, she struggled to get dressed and then snuck out of the room.

Six years later.

"The green grassland is as green as watermelon rind; your brain is full of wisdom, just like a post office full of letters. Thank you for listening. I'm your good friend Gina. See you at 22:22 tomorrow night. Good night."

After finishing the closing remark of her radio show, Gina took off the headphones. She rubbed her stiff neck tiredly and walked out of the broadcasting studio.

"Have you heard? We're having an interview with a very prominent figure today! That's right, we're interviewing Sammy Shen-the heir of the Shen family of J City. I'm sure all the ladies in town will be very eager to hear what he has to say. Oh, wait, he's engaged. Never mind. Anyway, I can't wait to see if he's as handsome as they say!"

Outside the break room, Gina stood in the corridor with an empty cup in her hand. She overheard everything.

"Gina, what're you still doing here? Aren't you off duty now? Why haven't you gone home yet?" a colleague asked.

Gina looked up and smiled slightly. "I'm about to leave. My child's waiting for me!"

Just then, a tall figure caught her eye. Her heart began to race and her palms grew sweaty.

Under the light of the glittering crystal lamps overhead, the man's angular face looked even more handsome and attractive. His black suit and leather shoes fit him like a glove, emphasizing his noble air. His dark eyes looked broody and mysterious, adding to his allure.

After six years, he seemed to have become even more mature and handsome.

"Mr. Shen, this way please!"

Led by the staff of the broadcasting station, Sammy walked right past Gina, towards the studio which was reserved for the interview.

Just then, Gina's cellphone began to ring, snapping her out of her trance. Glancing at her phone, her gaze softened at the caller ID.

She answered the call with a bright smile. "Hi, Glen!"

Meanwhile, Sammy's own phone kept buzzing. Pursing his lips tightly, he said to the person standing behind him, "Sorry, but something just came up. I have to go. Can we reschedule the interview?"

"Mr. Shen!"

Gina glanced up from her phone just in time to see her colleague, who had led Sammy into the studio just moments earlier, scurrying away. She scratched her brow with curiosity but decided to shrug it off. Returning to her call as she walked out of the building, she asked, "Glen, what're you doing?"

"I'm waiting for you to come back." Glen Gu yawned. "Mommy, did you eat dinner already?"

"Yes, I did. I will be back soon."

Gina smiled at her son's face on her phone screen, not noticing the car in front of hers.

Sammy was sitting in the back seat of his car and talking on the phone when the car suddenly lurched and he was thrown forward abruptly.

The phone flew out of his hand. Disgruntled, he asked the driver, "What happened? Go and check what's going on."

As soon as he finished his words, he saw a woman stepping out of the Beetle that rammed into his car.

She smiled apologetically and started to say, "Sorry, I..."

Gina never expected that, of all the people she would crash into, it would be Sammy. She was embarrassed beyond words and her voice trailed off. Could this be destiny? Or was this just another reason for her smoldering love for him to flare up again?

Snapping back to reality, she stuttered, "Sorry, I just got back from abroad. I'm just not used to drive on the right. Besides, it's kind of dark here. I didn't see your car..." Gina tried to act as though she had never met Sammy before.

"Gina Gu!"

Sammy's cold voice rang out.

Gina's heart was banging against her chest. She willed herself to calm down, but her heart was so stubborn!

She never thought Sammy would recognize her, let alone call her by her name.

His voice was as attractive as it was six years ago.

"Mr. Shen."

Chapter 2 The Unexpected Visitor

When Gina came out of trance, she greeted him politely, as though this was the first time they had met.

The corner of Sammy's lips twitched upwards slightly. "Mr. Shen?" he sneered.

His tone was tinged with contempt and disdain. Gina gulped nervously, willing herself to stay composed. "Mr. Shen," she said again, "it's getting late. How do you want to handle this?"

Sammy ignored her completely and grunted at his driver, "Call the police!"

Gina's jaw dropped. "Mr. Shen," she pleaded, "it's late. If we involve the police in this, the process will be so long and cumbersome. You might as well take your car to a garage and have it repaired. Don't worry. I'll cover the costs."

After all, her son was waiting for her at home.

It would take at least an hour to handle an accident like this if the police got involved. If she didn't make it home in time, Glen would be worried sick!

She quickly glanced at Sammy's car to assess the damage. Fortunately, she hadn't been driving that fast, so the damage wasn't that serious.

Back at the broadcasting station, Sammy had overheard Gina talking with Glen on the phone. Now, she was proposing not to get the police involved. And during the whole process, she glanced at her watch twice irritably. Thinking of this, he realized why she was so eager to solve this issue quickly.

Locking eyes with her, he pursed his lips so tightly that they formed a straight line.

In Gina's eyes, his silence meant he was going to acquiesce in her suggestion.

She took a deep breath and nodded gratefully before getting back into her car and driving away.

Finally, she arrived. When she took out the key and was about to unlock the door to her home, the door suddenly flung open.

"Baby!"

But before she was given a chance to explain, Glen pointed an accusatory finger at her. "Your program ends at eleven o'clock. It takes twenty-three minutes for you to drive home. You should have arrived much earlier..."

He raised his wrist and looked at his watch. "It's past twelve o'clock now. You have spent an hour on the road. You'd better tell me what happened!"

"Little boy!"

Gina sighed helplessly at her son. "You are just five years old. You should act like a cute kid. But why do you sound like an adult?"

But Glen ignored her. Instead, he approached her cautiously and sniffed around her. "Smells like smoke," he announced. "Did you go on a date?"

There was astonishment in his eyes when he smelt smoke from Gina.

'Did she really date someone?' he thought to himself.

"Your nose is as sharp as a dog's," Gina commented in an effort to evade his question. However, nothing could escape from Glen who was brighter than most five-year-olds. It was nearly impossible for Gina to keep anything from him. "Fine. He's not a boyfriend, but an acquaintance." She gave in.

It was true that she knew Sammy, so she could easily regard him as an acquaintance.

Glen said in disappointment, "I thought I would have a daddy soon!"

'Daddy? What made him think like that?'

Gina murmured in her head and looked at her son in shock. "Little boy, your daddy died a long time ago. His tomb's probably covered in grass by now!"

Glen looked at her wordlessly, his eyes filled with sadness.

The next morning, Gina was awakened by the doorbell.

She yawned and clumsily poked her feet into a pair of slippers. Bleary eyed and half asleep, she opened the door. When she saw a policeman standing outside, her senses suddenly became alert.

"Ma'am, are you Gina Gu?"

Gina nodded warily. When she saw the man standing behind the policeman, her eyes widened with shock. It was Sammy!

"Last night, you escaped after crashing into Mr. Shen's car, whose registration number was 9999. The accident happened on CX Road at 23:09. We received the call from Mr. Shen. Now we have to take you to our office."

Bang! Gina slammed the door on their faces.

Heart racing, she didn't even stop to think. At the sight of Sammy standing by her doorway, all she knew was that she needed to keep Glen out of his sight.

Completely ignoring the fact that a policeman was at her door, she dashed to Glen's bedroom to wake him up. "Baby, I have to go out and deal with something. Stay here, okay? Your godmother will pick you up later to take you to the kindergarten. Don't go outside until she arrives. Is that clear?"

Chapter 3 The Hefty Repairing Cost

Glen blinked at his mother and nodded drowsily.

Not knowing what more to say, Gina planted a kiss on his forehead and tucked him back into bed hastily before bounding out of his room to get dressed. At last, she smoothed the creases of her blouse and tied her hair into a tight ponytail before finally opening her front door. Catching the annoyed looks on the men by her doorway, she began to apologize profusely. "So sorry, I had to change my clothes. We can go now."

Sammy eyed her curiously. Seeing the panic in her eyes, his gaze then shifted to the bedroom door behind her which she had so hurriedly closed just now.

What was she so afraid of? Was she trying to hide something?

At the police station, Gina was briefed about the damage that she had caused. To cover the costs of the repairs to Sammy's Maybach, she would have to shell out six-digit's worth of money.

Her eyes went wide with shock. "One hundred and forty thousand dollars?"

Last night, she had seen the damage herself. While it was true that she had caused a slight dent and some scratched paint, she refused to believe such menial damage could amount to one hundred and forty thousand dollars.

Was Sammy trying to extort her?

Only recently had Gina come back from abroad. She hadn't gotten around to insuring her Beetle. There was no way she could afford these repairs. Gina was keenly aware of her financial predicament and anxiety gnawed at her.

"Miss Gu," the policeman said flatly, "a sum like this is probably nothing to a prominent figure like Mr. Shen. I'm sure that, if you just swallow your pride and apologize, he will let this slide and you won't have to pay the costs for repair."

'Swallow my pride?' Gina thought numbly.

'Apologize?'

Last night, she had left the scene under the impression that Sammy had agreed to her terms. To her surprise, he had gone behind her back and called the police, claiming she had fled the crime scene.

Why should she apologize to him?

However, on second thought, she decided to give in.

Clenching her teeth, she knew what needed to be done. She knew she had to sacrifice her dignity and apologize. After all, she couldn't afford the repairs.

She mustered up the courage to walk up to Sammy. Standing in front of him with a forced, bright smile, she said, "Mr. Shen, could you file for a claim with your insurance company? I am sure they will be able to cover the costs to repair your car."

"What?" Sammy responded indignantly. "Are you telling me that your sweetheart, who was waiting for you at home yesterday, can't afford to pay such a small sum?" He locked eyes with her coldly. "It has been six years. I never thought you'd still be so poor. You even can't afford insurance? Is that why you're not insured?"

Gnashing her teeth, Gina formulated her next sentence carefully.

"I will pay for it."

"By cash or by card?" Sammy rolled his eyes in sarcasm.

"Oh, Mr. Shen, you are so funny." Gina was infuriated. How dare this man belittle her? She might've been poor in his eyes, but she put on the airs of a rich woman. "Do you really think I'd carry that much cash in my wallet?"

Only a fool would do such a thing!

Sammy leaned against the wall, with one hand in his pocket and the other holding a cigarette between his fingers. His posture was relaxed and nonchalant, making him look somewhat alluring.

He smoked in a leisurely manner, which added some charm to his icy cold look. Somehow, Gina felt herself gravitating towards him.

There was something about this man that made him so attractive, even though six years had passed since their last encounter.

"I will use my card," Gina finally said.

"But Mr. Shen, you didn't oppose me when I suggested we deal with this without getting the police involved. As soon as I left, you called the police. How could you have changed your mind so quickly?" Unable to contain herself, Gina pointed an accusatory finger at the man.

However, never in her wildest dreams would she have expected his reaction.

Suddenly, Sammy stood bolt upright and reached out to pinch her fair chin in between his fingers. "It's you who changed your mind so quickly."

Holding her breath, Gina felt her body go limp at his touch. When his hand finally let go of her, he pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his fingers carefully-the very fingers he used to grab Gina's chin. When he was done, he unceremoniously tossed the handkerchief into the dustbin, disgust written all over his face.

Raising his head, he said in a cold voice, "One hundred and forty thousand dollars! Not a penny less!"
