HUMILIATED SON-IN-LAW, INVINCIBLE SYSTEM

Author: : Victoria.C.
Genre: Romance
They mocked him. They humiliated him. They thought he was just the worthless son-in-law who couldn't lift his head at the dinner table. Leon Gray was invisible to everyone around him-his proud wife, his ruthless in-laws, the world that only measured worth by wealth and power. To them, he was nothing but a burden, a joke, a man doomed to live and die in obscurity. But Leon had a secret. Behind his silence was strength. Behind his shame was an empire no one dared to imagine. Every insult, every slap, every cruel laugh only fueled the system he carried within him-a mysterious force that rewarded his patience and built his hidden kingdom brick by brick. The Collins family believed they had crushed him. What they didn't know was that they had just created their greatest enemy. Now the silent son-in-law is done waiting. The tables are about to turn. The man they trampled will rise-not as their equal, but as their ruler. This is not just a tale of revenge. This is the legend of the forgotten man who became untouchable. The silent king. The son-in-law who owns everything.

Chapter 1 The Nobody Son-in-law

Leon Gray sat at the end of the long dining table, his chair a little lower, his plate untouched.

The Collins family dinner was always the same-a battleground disguised as fine dining.

Crystal chandeliers lit the golden hall. Silverware clinked. Laughter echoed. Yet all of it pressed down on Leon like chains.

"Leon, pass the wine," Brandon Collins, Emily's younger brother, ordered without looking at him. He didn't ask.

He commanded, like Leon was the butler.

Leon picked up the bottle carefully, poured it into Brandon's glass. The moment he did, Brandon sneered. "Careful. Don't spill it.

Expensive stuff. More than your entire year's allowance, right?"

Snickers rolled down the table. Leon lowered his eyes, jaw tightening.

Miranda Collins, Emily's mother, leaned back with a sigh. "Why my daughter still keeps you around, I'll never know.

A useless man who can't even provide pocket change, and we have to look at your face every day."

Even though the words were as painful as knives, Leon's face remained the same..

His wife, Emily, sat beside him. She was dressed in sleek navy blue, her posture perfect, eyes glued to her phone. Not once had she looked his way.

"Emily, honestly," Miranda pressed on. "You should've divorced him already.

This family carries enough burdens. Why chain yourself to this-" she gestured at Leon, "-nobody?"

Heat crawled up Leon's neck. His hand tightened around his fork until his knuckles whitened. But still, he said nothing. He never did.

Inside, though, the silence burned.

Three years. Three years of being their son-in-law, their punching bag, their shame. He'd endured because Emily's father-the only one who treated him like a human being-had arranged the marriage before his death.

He owed the old man a debt of respect.

But patience had a limit. And Leon was almost at his.

Brandon leaned forward suddenly, waving a piece of steak on his fork. "Hey, Leon. Want a bite? Oh, wait-you're probably not used to food like this. Don't choke." He popped it into his mouth and chewed with exaggerated satisfaction.

Laughter exploded around the table.

Emily set down her phone at last. Her voice was low, flat. "Enough, Brandon."

For a moment, Leon almost looked at her, almost grateful. But then she added, "It's embarrassing for me too. Don't make it worse."

That hurt more than the insults.

Leon's throat worked, but no sound came out. He lowered his eyes again. The room blurred with heat.

How long...?

The Awakening

The laughter dimmed in Leon's head. His pulse pounded like war drums.

And then-

[System Activation Detected.]

Welcome, Host.

System Condition: Years of accumulated humiliation detected. Host compatibility-100%.

The voice wasn't spoken. It thundered directly inside his skull.

Leon froze, his fork halfway to his mouth. His gaze darted around, but no one else reacted-only him.

What...?

Words shimmered before his eyes in faint golden text only he could see:

[Humiliation Reward: +10,000 credits.]

[System Feature Unlocked: Basic Wealth Exchange.]

Leon briefly believed he had gone insane.. But then, something buzzed in his pocket. His phone.

He slid it out under the table. A new app glowed on his screen-black and gold, with a single word: System.

His thumb trembled as he tapped it open. Numbers stared back:

Balance: $10,000.

Cold spread through Leon's veins. Real. It was real.

Another notification blinked:

[Quest: Endure the scorn of a family gathering. Reward: $5,000 + 1 random item.]

Leon inhaled sharply. His chest tightened, but this time it wasn't despair. It was fire.

Brandon's mocking voice snapped him back. "What's with that look, Leon? Planning how to beg for scraps tomorrow?"

[Quest Progress: 80%.]

Leon almost smiled. Almost. He gripped the fork tighter.

"Leon," Miranda snapped, her sharp voice cutting the air. "Don't just sit there like a mute. At the very least, say thank you to Emily for letting you stay in this house.

A man should show gratitude for his charity."

[Quest Completed.]

Reward: $5,000 + Item Drop.]

A faint ding rang in his ears. Leon's phone buzzed again. Another $5,000 appeared in his balance. And beneath it, a digital card shimmered: Silver Watch – Business Class.

His lips parted. His pulse thundered.

It was real. All of it.

To conceal the storm in his eyes, Leon lowered his gaze once more.. Inside, though, something unfurled-something that had been caged for too long.

No one at that table noticed. Not Emily scrolling her phone again. Not Miranda basking in her own disdain. Not Brandon, grinning with his wine glass raised.

But Leon knew.

The cage had cracked.

The Silent Vow

Dinner dragged on, every insult another lash. But now, each lash was a coin dropping into his unseen chest.

Every sneer, every jeer-worth something.

By the time the plates were cleared, Leon's phone balance had climbed to $20,000.

His new watch card pulsed faintly in the System, waiting to be claimed.

He walked Emily back to their room in silence. She never glanced at him. Not once.

She went inside, set her phone on the bedside table, and started taking off her earrings.. "Leon," she said suddenly.

He looked up, hopeful despite himself.

Her back was to him. "Tomorrow, don't come to the Collins' shareholders' meeting. You'll only embarrass me."

The words were soft, almost tired. But to Leon, they were a blade.

"I see," he murmured.

Emily didn't notice the shift in his tone. She climbed into bed, pulling the blanket over her shoulder. "Good night."

Leon stood by the window, staring out at the city lights burning against the night. His bare suit, weary eyes, and hunched shoulders were all visible in his reflection.

But only he could see the faint golden interface glowing in the glass.

Balance: $20,000.

Unclaimed Item: Silver Watch – Business Class.

He tapped Claim.

A flash of light. The weight of cool metal settled on his wrist. Leon lifted his arm, staring at the sleek silver watch ticking softly. Real. Tangible.

His lips curled into something darker than a smile.

"He said to the glass, "They assume I'm a nobody at all.". His voice was low, steady, different.

Behind him, Emily was already asleep.

Leon's eyes burned with a quiet fire. "They'll see. Soon."

Leon's reflection smirked back at him, faint and dangerous.

The silent son-in-law was gone.

The Silent King had awakened

Chapter 2 The Weight of Silence

Leon rose early, the silver watch on his wrist ticking steadily, almost alive. He had stared at it half the night, half in awe, half in disbelief.

The glow of the System still hovered faintly in his vision whenever he blinked.

Balance: $20,000.

Next Quest: Attend Collins Group Meeting in Silence.

Reward: ???

Emily moved about the room, dressing for work in a fitted cream blouse and pencil skirt. Her dark hair cascaded over her shoulders as she clipped in earrings

. She glanced at Leon only once, her eyes flicking to the watch.

Her brow creased. "Where did you get that?"

Leon paused. For a moment, he considered telling her the truth-that a system beyond reason had chosen him.

But he only said, "A gift."

Emily's lips pressed thin. "You shouldn't spend money on such things.. If my mother sees it, she'll think you stole it."

He didn't argue. He never did.

Downstairs, the Collins mansion bustled with servants preparing breakfast.

Miranda sat at the head of the table, sipping coffee with an expression that suggested even the coffee had failed her.

Brandon scrolled on his phone, chuckling at something on the screen.

When Leon entered, Brandon looked up and smirked. "Well, if it isn't our charity case. Morning, brother-in-law. Slept well in your golden cage?"

Miranda's eyes slid to Leon's wrist. Her gaze sharpened. "Where did you get that watch?"

Leon set his jaw. "It was a gift."

"From who?" Her tone dripped suspicion.

Leon didn't answer.

Emily arrived then, saving him. "Mother, leave it. We're going to be late." She grabbed her handbag and strode toward the door.

Leon followed in silence, though Miranda's glare burned into his back.

In the car, the silence stretched. Emily drove with her fingers tapping on the wheel.

Finally, she said, "You really shouldn't come to this meeting.. I meant what I said last night."

Leon's gaze flicked to her profile.

The words itched on his tongue-I have more right to be there than any of you.

Instead, he simply answered, "I'll stay silent."

Emily exhaled through her nose. "Good."

The Meeting of Wolves

The Collins Group headquarters towered over the city, all steel and glass, a monument to power. Inside, tension hung thicker than perfume.

The shareholders' meeting was already buzzing when Leon and Emily entered.

Men in tailored suits, women in sharp dresses, voices sharp with numbers and politics.

"Why is he here?" Leon could hear one of the executives whispering loudly.. "The mute son-in-law?"

Brandon, already seated near the front, smirked. "Don't mind him. He's just here to warm the chair."

Laughter trickled around the room. With his hands clasped behind him, Leon cast his eyes down.

[Quest Progress: 20%.]

The chairman for the day, Uncle Harold Collins, banged the gavel. "Order. We'll begin."

Reports were read. Numbers rolled across the screens. Profits down. Stocks shaky. Whispers of a rival company making aggressive moves in the market.

Emily stood to present her department's report. Her voice was steady, professional, commanding. Leon felt a flicker of pride, quickly smothered by the coldness she'd shown him that morning.

But as Emily presented, Brandon cut in. "Sister, are you seriously suggesting we invest more in that division? We've already lost millions. Admit it-you don't know what you're doing."

Gasps rippled. Emily stiffened.

Leon's fists clenched under the table.

[Quest Progress: 60%.]

Brandon smirked at Leon from across the room, his voice dripping venom. "Brother-in-law, what do you think? Oh, right-you don't think. You just eat our food and wear watches you can't afford."

Snickers spread again.

Leon lifted his eyes slowly, meeting Brandon's gaze. His lips curved just barely-not a smile, but a promise.

[Quest Progress: 90%.]

Harold slammed his gavel again. "Enough. We'll vote on the motion."

Hands rose. The room is split. Tension thickened. Emily's face paled as more hands raised against her proposal.

Leon sat motionless. Silent.

> [Quest Completed.]

Reward: $50,000 + Hidden Skill Card.

The golden text flashed in his vision. His phone buzzed. Leon kept his face blank, but his heart thundered.

Emily's proposal failed. Brandon smirked in triumph.

The meeting moved on, but Leon's eyes flicked down to the glowing words on his screen:

Skill Card: Negotiator's Edge.

Effect: +30% persuasion in business transactions.

His mouth clenched. Not from pain, for the first time in years.

Cracks in the Glass

The meeting ended in tension. With an angry expression and clicking heels, Emily walked away quickly. Leon didn't say anything.

In the parking lot, she spun on him. "You just sat there. Do you know how humiliated I was?"

Leon's chest tightened. "You told me not to interfere."

"That doesn't mean you couldn't at least support me." Her eyes glistened, but her jaw was steel. "Sometimes I wonder if you enjoy watching me struggle."

Leon swallowed the sting. He wanted to tell her everything-that the world had changed last night, that he could tear down every smug smile with a flick of his hand now. However, the words remained imprisoned inside.

"Emily-"

Her phone rang.. She answered sharply, then turned away. "I have to go. Don't wait for me." She slid into her car and drove off, leaving Leon standing in the fading sunlight.

His phone buzzed again. Not a call-the System.

[Special Quest Unlocked: First Move.]

Objective: Use your new skill within 24 hours.

Reward: Access to hidden network.]

Leon's reflection glimmered in the car window. The silver watch caught the last rays of the sun.

He touched the screen. The Skill Card pulsed.

A hidden network. The words throbbed in his skull.

A smile ghosted across his lips, faint and dangerous.

"They think I'm silent," he whispered to himself. "Let's see how loud silence can be."

Chapter 3 The First Move

Dinner with Daggers

The Collins mansion gleamed under the soft glow of chandeliers, but to Leon it was a battlefield.

Every evening at that table meant blood-not spilled on the floor, but carved into his pride.

Tonight was no different.

"Leon," Miranda's voice rang sharp as a blade, "you didn't speak a word during the meeting. Do you think you're mute, or are you really that stupid?"

Brandon leaned back, swirling his wine. "Don't be so harsh, Mother. Our dear brother-in-law has an important role-he's the mascot of failure. Without him, how would we know how successful we were?"

Laughter rolled down the table.

Emily sat stiffly, her fork moving mechanically through her food. She hadn't supported him since the car park dispute.

Leon lowered his gaze. He could almost feel the System waiting, humming in the background, rewarding his silence.

But tonight... he had something more.

His phone buzzed faintly. He slid it from his pocket under the table. The words pulsed in gold:

[Quest Reminder: First Move – Use your new skill within 24 hours.]

Leon's thumb brushed the screen. A surge of warmth spread through his chest.

Skill Activated: Negotiator's Edge.

The room seemed to sharpen. Voices slowed, expressions deepened, hidden motives flickered like neon signs above each person's head.

Miranda: contempt, insecurity.

Brandon: arrogance, hunger for validation.

Emily: pride... but something else. Fear.

Leon's lips curved faintly.

"Mother-in-law," he said suddenly. His voice was soft, yet it cut through the laughter.

All eyes snapped to him.

"What did you say?" Miranda demanded.

Leon lifted his gaze, calm, steady. "You're right. I don't contribute much. But if I told you I could bring in new investment for the Collins Group-would that still make me useless?"

The room went still.

Brandon snorted. "You? Investment? Don't joke."

Leon tilted his head. The Negotiator's Edge pulsed. His words slid like silk. "Some doors open to silence. Not to noise. Maybe one of those doors is ready to open for the Collins Group."

Miranda frowned, caught between scorn and curiosity. Even Emily's fork paused midair.

"Explain yourself," Miranda demanded.

Leon only smiled faintly, eyes dropping back to his plate. "You'll see."

[Quest Progress: 60%.]

The table buzzed with whispers. Brandon scoffed, but doubt flickered in his eyes. Emily's gaze lingered on Leon a fraction longer than usual.

And Leon chewed his food slowly, savoring not the taste-but the silence he'd weaponized.

The Hidden Network

Later that night, when the mansion finally quieted, Leon sat by the window again. The silver watch ticked softly, steady as his breathing.

His phone buzzed. The System glowed.

[Quest Completed: First Move.]

Reward: Access to Hidden Network.]

Leon tapped.

The screen shifted. A new menu unfolded-encrypted chats, anonymous profiles, lines of data, and opportunities blinking like stars in the void.

Hidden Network: A marketplace of shadows.

Buyers, sellers, informants, investors-all cloaked behind code names.

Leon's pulse quickened.

He clicked a random listing: "Short-term investment opportunity. Entry: $10,000. Return: $30,000 in 48 hours. Risk minimal. Verified by System."

Another: "Corporate intel on rival companies. Price: $5,000."

Leon leaned back, heart pounding.

This wasn't just money. This was power.

The System buzzed again.

[Special Offer: First Trade Discount – 50%. Limited time.]

Leon didn't hesitate. He tapped to purchase intel on Collins Group's biggest rival-Sterling Enterprises.

Within seconds, a file appeared. He opened it.

Charts, reports, hidden scandals. Sterling's CEO secretly funneled company money into illegal offshore accounts. One exposure, and Sterling would crumble.

Leon exhaled slowly.

Tomorrow, Brandon and Miranda would laugh again. But tomorrow, Leon would carry a knife beneath his silence.

Shattered Masks

The next day, Leon accompanied Emily to another meeting. She tried to protest, but he simply said, "I'll stay quiet."

Emily's lips pressed thin, but she didn't argue.

The meeting began. Brandon boasted of Sterling Enterprises' "flawless" strategy, mocking Emily's failures again.

The board chuckled, eager to see her squirm.

Leon sat still. Silent. Until the moment was perfect.

He leaned toward Harold, his voice low, words wrapped in the glow of his Skill. "Check Sterling's offshore accounts. You'll find something interesting."

Harold blinked, startled. He studied Leon's calm face. Then, curiosity won.

He signaled his secretary. Within minutes, whispers flew across the table as documents loaded onto screens.

Sterling's scandal glared back at them.

Gasps erupted. Brandon's smug smile froze. Miranda's face drained of color.

Emily stared at Leon, eyes wide, lips parted.

"Impossible," Brandon muttered. "How did he-?"

Harold slammed the gavel. "This changes everything. We'll launch an investigation immediately. Sterling will bleed."

The board whispered with amazement and wonder.. For the first time, their gaze was drawn away from Brandon and Miranda and toward Leon.

He lowered his gaze again, calm, silent.

[System Update: Quest Chain Unlocked – The Silent King's Rise.]

[New Title Earned: Shadow Investor.]

Emily touched his arm when the meeting ended. Her voice trembled slightly. "Leon... how did you know?"

He caught her eyes, a small curve on his lips. "Some doors open to silence."

Her hand fell away slowly. Confusion, doubt, maybe even fear flickered in her eyes.

As they left the building, Brandon stormed behind them, fury twisting his face.

"You think this makes you somebody?" he hissed in Leon's ear. "You're still nothing. You'll always be nothing."

Leon turned his head slightly, his silver watch catching the sunlight. His tone was steady, serene, and as silent as death.

"Then why are you shaking?"

Brandon flinched.

Leon walked on, Emily trailing behind him in silence, the city's shadows stretching long before them.
