"Here" The gamma thrust a bucket and a scrubbing brush into Fay's hands," Go get busy"
Fay was looking worn out and weak from all the tasks she had been subjected to from the minute she was forced out of bed.
The door to the staff's bathroom was held wide open and a stench rushed into her nostrils as she walked inside set for work.
"Make sure you do that fast, you still have tons of work waiting for you" The gamma reminded her and shut the door .
Fay placed the bucket down on the greasy floor and drew in a breath, she wiped her hands on the dirty apron she was wearing over her hand sewed clothes and glanced around the bathroom.
Fay sighed and began to fill the bucket with warm water from the faucet.
She added a small amount of detergent and stirred it in,creating a weak sudsy solution.
She dipped the scrubbing brush into the bucket and wrung it out, then began to scrub the filthy floor.
She started in the corner, working her way across the room in slow, meticulous strokes.
The brush scraped against the stained tile, dislodging dirt and grime that has built up over time.
Fay's arms ached as she worked, her muscles screaming in protest.
As she scrubbed,Fay's mind began to wander. She thought about her life in the pack, how she had always been an outcast because she didn't have the wolf traits.
She remembered the bullying, the maltreatment and the suffering she had endured.
Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes as she scrubbed, her sadness and frustration boiling over.
She felt like she was stuck in a never ending cycle of drudgery and pain .
Finally, after what felt like an eternity,Fay finished scrubbing the floor. She rinsed the brush and wrung it out, then dumped the dirty water down the drain.
She refilled the bucket and began to wash the sink and toilet, her movements mechanical and detached.
When she was done ,Faymade her way to the dirty kitchen, her apron stained and her hands raw. she began to wash the stacks of plates, her mind numb and her body aching.
As she worked, some of the omega's laughed and called her the "lowest slave".
"Look at how dirty she looks"One of them said audibly," She's not supposed to even be among us"
"I wished the Lord would just send her away, she's not qualified to be in this pack, she belongs to the human world"Another supported
" She is as good as nothing" Came another
They all laughed and passed by, casting disgusted stares at her.Fay felt a sting from their words but she didn't look up ,she just kept washing, her eyes fixed on the plates.
She overheard the chefs talking about a visitor, someone who was coming to the mansion to meet with the Lord and lady .
"He is very handsome,I've seen him once" One of the chefs whispered to the other.
" He is a lycan ,so I heard " Another whispered back
" I can't wait for him to taste our delicious meals,I bet he would come visiting every minute"
Fay was wondering who this Lycan was and then silence fell in the kitchen as the gamma returned, she walked straight to Fay, thrusting a tray of wine into her hands.
"Leave that immediately, you would come back to finish up just go to the dining room and serve the Lord and last at once"The gamma ordered," And don't spill a drop ,you clumsy fool"
Fay curtseyed and then looked down at her dirty apron and dress and felt a surge of fear.
She didn't want to go in front of the Lord and lady and all their visitors looking like a mess...well,that had been her appearance for years .
She didn't have a choice, she quickly raced out of the kitchen, her breath coming in a fast pace as she headed to the direction of the dining room.
Loud laughter rushed into her ears as she stepped into the dinning room, she kept her head lowered as she walked to the small gathering and horridly filled the wine glasses of the Lord, lady and their arrogant daughter,Gwen.
She courtseyed again and stepped back waiting for orders, the lady turned to her angrily.
"You fool, don't you see a visitor before you. Is he going to drink from an empty cup?"She snapped.
Fay jolted from her loud voice in fright and almost spilling the wine, she looked up at the visitor in question.
Her heart caught as she stared at a handsome man ,in an expensive suit with long dark hair seated quietly and staring back at her with piercing brown eyes.
"I'm sorry" Fay said quickly and rushed to him
She filled his glass with wine, her hands shaking as she did and the man sat still, looking at his glass as she poured his wine.
When she had filled it,she stepped back and he looked up at her and nodded his thanks. Her heart skipped a beat. She wondered how a man could be this handsome, almost like a god.
"What are you standing there for?" Gwen snapped at her," Get out. Out!"
Fay jolted again in fear and scampered to the door, her legs shaking and her whole body trembling with fear.
"Fay!" The Lord called ,his voice hoarse and severe.
Fay spun around quickly and lowered her head, she did not look him in the eye as he spoke.
"Your mate, Alpha Roderick, would be arriving tomorrow with his people,"He said gloomily.
Fay's head shot up,her mate? She wasn't aware that she had a mate and let alone the Alpha. Her heart started pounding against the wall of her chest.
The Lord continued,"Tell the gamma to get you ready and you had better prayed your stupid luck shines on you this time"
Fay nodded, from the corner of her eyes she could see the visitor staring at her but then she curtseyed.
"Yes,my Lord" She said quickly and scuttled out of the dining room.
She stopped once she was outside, her heart was still pounding, her hands shaking.
Tomorrow....she was going to meet her mate.
Fay woke up to the sound of the door bursting open, her eyes adjusted at the bright light that drifted into her poorly furnished room from the door.
"Put this on" The gamma said immediately she stepped in,thrusting a dress on the floor.
"What is going on?" Fay asked silently, picking up the unattractive dress.
"You must be stupid for asking me questions, your mate would be here in less than thirty minutes"The gamma snapped at her," Put that on immediately"
In five minutes,Fay was walking out of the omega's quarters where she slept and through the dark corridors , following closely behind the gamma as they walked hurriedly to the main house.
Fay's heart was pounding madly against her chest, threatening to burst out. Her legs were shaky as she walked quickly, trying to catch the pace of the gamma.
"I heard she's going to see her mate today" An omega gossiped as they passed by
Another snorted,"She has bad luck,no one would want someone like her"
"The Lord is just trying to get rid of her but she doesn't deserve someone like the Alpha. She is supposed to be mated to someone as lowly as her"Another omega whispered back.
They finally stepped into the grand sitting room ,the lights from the diamond chandelier hanging over heard pouring into her eyes.
"You took your sweet time getting here," The last snapped,"Don't think you are starting to be important, you are still a slave"
Fay lowered her head but said nothing, she listened to the sound of her heart pounding, feeling the sense of nervousness pouring over her.
The door burst open as if hit by a bomb and Alpha Roderick walked arrogantly in ,his hand shoved into his trouser's pocket while the other was scrolling through his smartphone , following closely behind were two huge suited security guards.
Fay drowned in the powerful sight of him as he strode in ,his eyes not leaving his smartphone.
"Alpha Roderick," The Lord called,"You are highly welcome to my humble abode"
Alpha Roderick looked up from his phone and sighed," Let's get this over with,I don't have time to waste. Where is she?"
The Lord smiled and turned back to Fay who still had her head lowered .
"Step forward,Fay" He grated.
Fay walked forward with her head bowed and her hands pinned to her back, her heart still pounding as the Alpha's eyes roamed over her.
"Who is this?" He snapped.
The Lord and lady exchanged glances and then the Lord cleared his throat.
"Her name is Fay and she is your mate," He replied.
Alpha Roderick looked at her with disdain ,a sour expression crossing his features.
"Is this an insult,Lord Benard? You mean I came all the way down here for this?"He asked angrily,"She doesn't even have the wolf traits, she is useless to me"
Fay felt as if she had been punched in the guts, his words pierced her like a two edged sword and she fought back the tears that threatened to fall.
A sly smile rose up the lady's lips,it was just the exact reaction she had wanted.
"She was chosen for you in the mating festival as your mate,Alpha Roderick"She said
" Impossible!"Alpha Roderick spat angrily,"A mate without the wolf traits is unacceptable. We can't have a weak link in our pack as a Luna ,I won't mate with someone who can't even shift"
Fay felt her whole body trembling again, tears pricked at the corners of her eyes.
The lady smiled pleased, she stepped forward, her heels clicking on the tiled floor.
"Well,my dear Alpha Roderick,I Know you're disappointed and thought you have wasted your time. You can't certainly mate with a girl without any wolf traits and besides she is one of the lowly slaves here"
"How true is this,Lord Benard?" Alpha Roderick asked the moment he heard she was a maid.
The Lord feigned a sad expression on his face,"That is very true"
" That is a sacrilege,"Alpha Roderick spat again.
"You know we can't lie to you but if only the Alpha pleases to hear what I have to say"The lady cooed
Alpha Roderick sighed," Go ahead"
The lady smiled ,"Perhaps,my daughter Gwen can be a good match for your son,she is eighteen and beautiful, untouched by any man and she has the wolf traits. Her wolf has already manifested , perhaps she would be a more suitable match for your son?"
Fay felt as if she had been punched in the guts, she felt weak all over as tears rushed to her eyes and slipped down her cheeks.
"Where is she?" Alpha Roderick asked impatiently.
The lady looked up at the top of the stairs and everyone followed her eyes to where Gwen stood looking down at them, her face stained with heavy makeup and her blonde hair pulled up on her head.
She slowly ascended down the stairs like a princess, taking one step at a time as she came to stand beside her mother
"She is very beautiful"Alpha Roderick said,"I like her"
"And what do you say,Gwen ?" Rosie turned to her daughter.
Gwen looked up and smiled sweetly
"I'd be honored to be considered as a potential mate for Roderick"She said, her voice dripping with sweetness.
"It is settled then,I choose you Gwen as my mate this very day" Roderick said smiling.
He extended his hand to her and she took it as he brought it up to his lips and planted a kiss on the back of her palm
Then he turned to look at Fay,his expression sour " AND, I , ALPHA RODERICK, REJECT YOU, FAY AS MY MATE "
Fay looked up at him, tears slipping down her cheeks, her chest burning with pain and hurt.
"Take her away, let her get busy with something" The Lord told the gamma.
The gamma nodded and marched forward, pulling her hand and taking her away like a piece of dirty rag.
Tears slipped down Fay's cheeks as she followed the gamma, they brushed past the lady who whispered something to the gamma.
"You know what to do," She said.
The gamma took Fay to continue with her harsh labour as if nothing had happened.
Fay knew by now the news of her rejection must have gone around and she would be bullied even more by the omegas.
She felt hurt and dejected and her heart bled with pain. She changed from the dress she wore to her normal clothes and as usual, she was given a bucket and a scrubbing brush.
She worked in the dark corridor throughout the day without any food or water, her throat felt perched but she dared not ask for anything.
The gamma left her there in the dark corridor as she knelt on the sharp granite floor, scrubbing the floor tiredly.
Fay took a handful of water from the bucket and gulped down the dirty water she had used in scrubbing the floor
She let the liquid flow down her throat and was relieved a little, her stomach rumbled as she stared down at the corridor, she sighed at the length that she had to cover.
Fay wiped her sweaty forehead with the back of her hand and scrubbed harder so the gamma wouldn't have to complain .
Just when she thought it couldn't get worse, the lady walked in with some guards and Fay fell back on her knees, wondering what she had done.
"You bag of bad luck,I see you are getting yourself busy"She smiled.
Fay lowered her head ,a tear slipping down her cheeks and she swallowed.
"You are no longer needed here, you are an outcast and the Alpha would not be pleased to see you around here"She spat.
Fay's head shot up,she didn't understand what she had meant by she was no longer needed.
"What?" Fay asked quietly.
"You heard me,you are a smear to this distinguished family and it is time you left with your ill luck"Lady Rosie told her, curtly.
Fay's heart skipped a beat, fear rushed into her and she clasped her hands together.
"Please, please. Don't send me away,I have nowhere else to go,"Fay cried.
Lady Rosie laughed," I don't give a hoot if you have somewhere to go or not,do you think I care if you live or not? You are just a good for nothing,a shame to this pack"
"Please,my lady. I would do anything you want ,I will work and do all your biddings please just let me stay here"
Lady Rosie smiled and she folded her arms across her chest, she snapped at the guards behind her and they marched forward.
"Very well then" She said,"Take her away".
The guards seized her, dragging her up to her feet ,their nails digging into her skin as they dragged her through the dark corridor to a darker room, somewhere in the mansion.
She was flung inside the room with a cold stone floor and a little window overhead that poured a faint Ray of light.
"This is where you will be staying from now on," Lady Rosie spat," You are an outcast,Fay. The Alpha rejected you because of your ill luck so you are no longer worthy of even living among the slaves"
Fay's eyes welled up in years as the lady's words cut deep into her,she felt like she had hit rock bottom.
She didn't know whether to be thankful or sad as she looked around the room that smelled of rotten Vegetables.
"You will be doing hard labour every day" She continued," You will be lucky if anyone remembers to get you any food or water. You're nothing but an outcast now. You will never be loved or accepted. You're worthless, remember that"
The lady nodded to the guards who pulled the door close,Fay heard the rattling of keys as they locked her in the room and soon the clicking of Lady Rosie's heel muffled as they left.
Fay collapsed on to the narrow bed, sobbing uncontrollably. She wished her parents were alive to protect her,to comfort her. But they were gone and she was alone.
She was plunged into darkness, her heart heavy with sorrow and despair.
But even in the midst of such hopelessness,a spark within Fay refused to die.
She knew she couldn't give up,not yet. She had to find a way to survive,to be alive and to prove herself and others that she was worthy of love and acceptance.
Some hours past with Fay left crying out her pain and bitterness, the door pushed open and the gamma came in with some omegas carrying a bucket of water and a scrub brush
"Scrub the walls," She barked,"Make them shine because you would be staying here, you would only be given food to eat when I am satisfied with the result"
Fay reluctantly got to work, her hands raw and sore as she scrubbed the cold stone walls tiredly.
The gamma and the omegas left and she cried as she worked, her tears mixing with the dirty water that splashed on her face.
She scrubbed harder, hoping to eat something if she did a good job just as the gamma had said.
The gamma was only back some hours later, inspecting the walls while Fay sat weakly on the floor, breathing hard.
She was given stale bread to eat and a cup of polluted water which she ravaged before it would be taken away from her.
The gamma stood by the door watching her wolf down the bread and gulping in the water, choking as she did.
Fay was too tired by the time she ate the last piece of the steak bread, she rested her head on the bed ,she was tired to her bones and she felt she would pass out if she attempted to do something else.
The tray was cleared after her and she felt her vision starting to be blurry from her tiredness...or was it that?
Her head began to spin and it seemed as if a dozen drummers were practicing in her head,Fay touched the side of her head and stared at the Gamma who was looking back at her.
Fay's eyes began to close, the image of the gamma twisted into a wavy figure .
"Get some rest" She heard the gamma say ,"You will be needing it"
