GREEN JUSTICE

As I operated my wheelchair back towards my home from

school,I kept ruminating on how to tackle bullying at school

by some older boys who took advantage of my condition to

maltreat me. Sometimes,my lunch box had to be used as a

bribe in order to escape punishments from their unlawful fists

and I dared not make a sound of disagreement or else,the

blows will be redoubled.

I got to my home's doorstep and I violently pressed the door

bell button,making the bell ring at a very violent speed.

Shortly after a while,my mom stepped out and as soon as she

saw me,she hugged me and then helped me into the house.

.

"How was school today,son?" She asked as I operated my

wheelchair towards my room's door.

.

"Always fine,mom" I lied and I fully disappeared through the

door into my room,closing the door behind me alongside. I got

closer to my bed and gently crawled unto it from my

wheelchair. I lay on my back,staring at the ceiling. My mind

was completely dejected and trying to figure out a way out of

the bullying. Reporting the older boys wouldn't help matters at

all...just like adding a flammable liquid into an already blazing

flame and I personally knew that even if I reported them,the

punishment inflicted on the older boys used to be very

negligible,nothing compared to what they had done to me or

some other boys of my caliber. While I was still thinking about

it,my mind flashed back to the accident where I lost my father

and suffered temporary paralysis which could only be

corrected by a bone correction surgery which of course,my

mom couldn't afford for now. The bone fracture I suffered was

very severe that I've been using the wheelchair for three good

years since my dad died in the same accident where I lost my

legs.....I could still picture it in my head how my dad's car ran

into an incoming truck,with me sitting next to him.....Still,I

could picture how my dad's body was being carried away by

four hefty guys and how he was lowered into the grave back

then...

.

My Name is Arthur Griffo. Since the death of my father,I had

learnt to live a loving life with my mom who stopped at

nothing to make sure I'm always fine and happy. In return,I

had developed an undying love for her so much,I could say

much more than I loved myself. Speaking about friends,well

due to my condition I had none,except for a girl in school. Her

name's Rae...She isn't a partially paralyzed teenager like I

am,but took me as a friend in school...She virtually helped me

with everything that seems impossible for me due to my

condition. Even though I've endured bullying in college for the

past two years,I made it a clear physical caution and didn't

allow her to know about the bullying by the older,bigger and

stronger boys since we've been together....Maybe I was afraid

they'll hurt her or hold her up in a similar subjection like

mine....but for girls,it wasn't always bullying but physical

assault or even try to attack them outside the college

premises...

.

"Arthur,what's the problem with you? You look somehow

unhappy and pale" My mom said shortly after I noticed her

presence in the doorway. She came closer,observing my

eyeballs in the lower region.

.

"Nothing mom...Am perfectly okay...Just tired due to today's

work back in college" I defended,trying to wave off the

conversation and luckily for me,it worked.

.

"Okay...so tomorrow's weekend....You'll be seeing the doctor

tomorrow,okay?" My mom said. I stole a glance at her and

then nodded my head in agreement....As i watched my mom

left my room,series of thoughts ran through my mind....My

mom was a very young lady in her early thirties...According to

her,she married my dad when she was just 21 and here she is

now,a very young,beautiful,hardworking but helpless young

widow....If my mom didn't have me as her son,there's no

doubt she'll currently be remarried but no,she chose to stay

and work because of me,mainly focused on raising the funds

for my surgery so I could walk again...

As my mom drove us to the doctor the next day,I kept

mute,staring outside the car's lowered window glass. I was

busy looking at other teenagers like me who could walk with

their two legs. Long before I got involved in the accident that

determined my new lease of life,I used to be a very good

footballer and a fairly good long jumper but ever since I

suffered the temporary paralysis,my dream about those

sporting activities had crashed...But deep in my mind,I had

made it a ticked word about going back to football if am

opportune to walk with my legs again....I was so engrossed

in my thoughts that I didn't know when we arrived at the

hospital.

"Come on Arthur....We're here...what are you looking at?" My

mom said,bugging my attention back.

.

"Sorry i must have...trailed off" I muttered. My mom alighted

from the car and opened the other door on the left

side,bringing out my wheelchair first. After that,she helped me

unto it and together,we advanced towards the hospital's

entrance. As we got to the entrance,a red haired boy emerged

from the door and stood,staring at me....I recognized him as

one of the students in college but couldn't understand the

reason why he was constantly staring at me like he's never

seen me before....Trying not to be inquisitive,I took my gaze

away from him as myself and my mom disappeared into the

hospital through the door....As we sat waiting for the doctor,I

grabbed a nearby newspaper and began flipping the pages

open. I then got to a page that caught me and I dedicated my

rapt attention to it....It was carrying a headline saying 'Five

people found dead near New York central park with their

brains missing' . I yucked at this and dropped the

papers,wondering if that's really possible...The thoughts didn't

last for long as it was overtaken by the arrival of the doctor.

We stayed in the hospital for about an hour and half. I was

properly checked and given some medications and then

afterwards,we left for home again. We arrived back home

twenty minutes later. I had already taken breakfast earlier

before we left for the hospital so I settled to watch television. I

switched on the television to a news station and what I saw

there made me more engrossed..

NEWSCASTER : Bringing this to you from the United States

news television. Earlier last week,a group of scientists who

had gone for some researches in a distant part of the

countryside stumbled upon a cave,leading to an island,a

strange island...Researchers and experts were sent for and

after much viewing,it was discovered that a 70 million years

old meteor had landed there and all the plants and animals

around the environment had been living under the influence of

this mysterious and energy generating mountain of

meteor...Further researches stated that a ball filled with

mutant genetic fluid is set to rupture and get spread by a

mysterious rainfall which had been forecasted few days ago.

The united states government has ordered a full month

lockdown all over the U.S for the safety of all the united

states citizen. Everyone is advised to......" I was still listening

to these when suddenly,my mom turned off the television .

.

"What do you think you're doing Arthur? Have you taken your

medications before settling for the television?" My mom said

with a slight smile. She has the trait of smiling at everything.

Infact,I could say that I've have seen my mom in a violent or

angry state,not even when dad was alive. If they're having a

quarrel,I used to figure that out very easily and this implies

that they'll both be in the house but wouldn't say a word to

each other...Usually during those time,I never knew what next

used to happen if they both retired to their room at night but

in my presence,they'll never exchange a single word during

their quarrel....and I used to love them like that,not until my

dad was snatched from us by the cold hands of death.

"But mom,I can do that anytime from now" I replied,not

looking at her but gazing at the blank dead television. My

mom came and sat beside me,giving no space at all. She

placed an arm around my neck and smiled.

.

"No Arthur..You have to take them now for immediate effect"

she insisted and gave me a peck on my cheeks. After that,I

glanced at her and smiled,leaving me no choice than to do

what she asked of me. My mom has a special way of getting

my dad to do something back then but since his death,she

had been using the same tactics to get me do something she

really wants me doing...

Two days later,the whole country got to know about the

news,throwing the country into a severe lockdown. The order

had already stayed for good three weeks then one night, I fell

seriously ill and the medications administered to me before the

lockdown had been exhausted. Hospitals were still operating

but it was kinda far from our home. Not able to bear the sight

of her slowly dying son,my mom grabbed the phone and

dialed an emergency number but unfortunately,the line seem

not to be connecting. She then turned at me

.

"Arthur,please you have to stay inside...I'll rush down to the

hospital and get some drugs...The emergency digit isn't

connecting" My mom said. Even with my condition,I managed

to sit up on my bed.

"What??? No mom....You're breaking the government order if

you do that....I'll be okay,mom" I said,trying to get her off the

decision track but if it's anything about my well being,my

mom would stop at nothing to get it done. She placed her two

hands on my shoulder.

.

"Arthur,do me a favour....No matter what happens,don't leave

this house...okay?" My mom said...I nodded the positive and

without wasting further time,my mom stormed out of the

house and started the car,driving towards the hospital

direction....As she left,series of negative thoughts began

running through my mind and unfortunately enough for me,the

worst set in after my mom left. Approximately five minutes

after my mom left the house,rain clouds gathered,with loud

and heavy thunder claps. At first,I thought it was a normal

and regular rainfall but i was proved wrong after I saw the

clouds slowly begin to change,taking a red coloured form all

over the sky.......

Impatient to find my mum,i bailed out of the house on my

wheelchair,rolling it as fast as i could. As i moved,the raging

thunder kept running and shortly after a while,the mysterious

rain began. I passed a store that had a transparent glass and

through it,i saw my hair being moisturised by the descending

drops of rain. The rain fell gently at first but a few minutes

later,it began falling in sheets. I tried controlling my wheelchair

from being mauled by the heavy falling sheets until i got to a

turn to the hospital. Suddenly from the sky,i sighted an

incoming object. At first,i thought it was the regular patrol

chopper that usually moved around the city in search for law

breakers but as soon as the object began closing in the more,i

then realized it was way bigger than a chopper,probably a

spaceship. I tried speeding up with my wheelchair but

unfortunately,the incoming spaceship fired a laser at me. It

missed my body but hit my wheelchair tyres,making me fall to

the ground. As i fell,i felt a sharp pain run up from my

paralyzed legs which made me yell in pain. My vision started

becoming blurry due to the intense humidity and violent breeze

blowing around and hitting me with the heavy falling sheets of

the downpour....The streets and the ground now looked like a

mini pool where water was meant to flow during rainfalls....So

me buildings,mostly stores that were built with glasses that

weren't strong enough to withstand the strength of the rain

crumbled to their foundations....Some cars parked by the side

of the road was being carried away by the heavy flowing water

running through the streets. After the laser hit my

wheelchair,the effect had already pushed me to one side of the

road,away from the flowing water's range...The ship then

landed few metres away from my position.. .Some figures

began stepping out but due to my blurry vision,i couldn't tell if

they're humans or aliens. As they advanced towards me,the

rain suddenly changed its course,now with thick green liquids

falling alongside the rain water. Seeing this,the figures

advancing towards me retreated back to their ship and flew

away immediately....I continuously struggled with my blurry

vision in order to at least see who they were but no,they were

gone now,leaving only my poor self on the streets. Few

minutes later,i kept crawling towards the hospital which was

now a stone throw from where i was but as i kept crawling,a

huge red ball from the sky landed right on me,covering me

with thick green liquid. I struggled with it after it began giving

me a hot burning sensation all over my body but all was

useless as I've already been totally covered with the greenish

slime from the ball. While still struggling with it,a sudden

lightning from the sky struck me admist my struggle for

freedom,making me pass out immediately...

For how long I've been out,i don't really know but i gained

back my consciousness and found myself in a totally different

place. It was an island filled with green vines and

plants,coupled with green fogs covering some places around.

For the first five minutes,i laid still on the ground,afraid to

leave the spot i was lying but this changed after i suddenly

realized i could feel my legs again and also moving my toes.

This gave me the courage to get up from my lying position

and as i sat up,i came to realize my paralysis had vanished

mysteriously. Slowly,i stood up to my feet,supporting myself

with a nearby tree. I couldn't stand fully on my own that

moment,probably because it's been a while i walked on my

own. I felt extremely happy about this and i slowly let go of

the tree,trying to stand fully on my own without support. I took

few steps forward but my legs were still wobbly. I suddenly

stumbled upon a stone and fell to the ground with an heavy

third,hitting my head against a stone. I had expected to find

an injury on my head due to the force at which my head struck

the stone but surprisingly,i found out that the stone had

broken into several halves instead and my head,injury free.

"What's happening to me already?" I muttered to

myself,touching my head several times to see if there's blood

coming out of anywhere. Trying to confirm if what just

happened was real,i clenched my fist and punched a large

piece out of the broken stone. I was extremely shocked to see

the stone break into several pieces without exerting any pains

on me....Seeing this,a sort of panic held me to ransom.

"I have to find a way outta here....Something's definitely not

alright with me" i said aloud and began to run. As i ran,i felt

like i had bouncing springs beneath my legs. I looked back

and suddenly gasped at what i saw. I realised i had covered a

very long distance just by few running steps i took.

Unknowingly while i thought i was running,I've been jumping

without notice. Curious to find out,i looked at my legs and

suddenly jumped to touch a nearby leaf but to my surprise,i

found myself jumping higher than the tree itself. I yelled while

in the air and as i landed back,the spot i landed on created a

shape of my foot on the ground.

"No...No...this can't be happening...This can't be happening" i

said in a shaky voice and began walking. I was now scared

to even run due to what just happened. As i kept moving,i

started picturing what just happened in the past few

minutes....First,my paralysis vanished mysteriously....Second,i

broke a strong rock with just my first...Thirdly,i could jump

very high,which of course was mysterious as well....While

thinking all about this,i arrived at a spot where i sighted a

tiger sitting down beside a rock. As soon as i saw it,i

gasped,calling the tiger's attention towards myself. The guy

got up and began walking towards me. I stood in shock and

couldn't move but surprisingly as the tiger got to me,it began

waggling it's tail in happiness. The looks on my face changed

after realizing the tiger wasn't violent with me.

.

"Wait a damn minute... Was this thing not supposed to attack

me? What's happening?" I asked myself in a mutter. Few

minutes later,the tiger left my place and went back to where it

was sitting initially....Testing my might,i began walking

away,thinking the tiger would attack me but no,it didn't till I

was out of sight...Same thing happened after coming across

many dangerous animals and then,i realized i wasn't in any

way closer to my city....After walking close to an hour,i

arrived at a cliff which seems like a dead end. The ground

below it was very far from the cliff edge and so,i stood there

like a dummy watching the ground which was filled with

partly divided rocks. I kept wondering what next to do. I

looked around,hoping that i could sight another way. I found

another narrow path and decided to follow it but few minutes

later after reaching the end,i realized it was a lot worse than

the first cliff i came across. This one had a volcanic lava pool

flowing beneath it.

"Now this is a bad idea anyway...I'll have to go back right

now" i said and without hesitation,i turned and headed back

to where i first found myself,the stormy cliff.

.

"M...maybe I'll have to jump afterall" i thought aloud. I moved

closer to the end point and closed my eyes. I hesitated for a

while and suddenly jumped off the cliff,screaming as i fell.

Not able to control myself,i landed admist few rocks and

instantly,my two legs broke,i could even hear the breaking

sounds but to my utmost surprise,i didn't feel any pain but

instead,the broken femurs in my legs began to crack and

reform and in few seconds,they were back to their former

state,leaving me wondering what has become of me. Moments

later while still sitting on the ground relaxing,a female voice

spoke behind me.

.

"Who are you and why are you here?" The voice said. I

immediately turned and saw a girl just about my legal age

standing few metres away from me. She was wearing an all

white latex outfit and had a white hair also. She had this

strange tattoo on her neck region that looked exactly at a

space asteroid. Her eyes were extremely green in nature and

had a fairly strong look on her face but the way she spoke to

me,i knew something must arise,if not a kind of punishment

right there. I guessed this due to her tightly clenched fists and

the looks she was putting on....Suddenly right before me,she

began to change and before i knew it,her hairs changed back

to green colour and her white outfit changed into a blue jean

and a blue jacket as well,coupled with finger gloves which

were black in colour......

.

"Um....My name is Arthur....The thing is that i really don't

know how i got here in the first place" I said,trying to sound

polite and innocent,even though i had this but of fear in my

voice. Mere looking at the girl before me,a sensible one would

easily know she's not a mere human,if probably or close,she

should be some sort of extraordinary kid,just as I've

considered myself in conclusion. Even though she's a girl,i

was still afraid of what she might do to me and this was

because of the looks on her face. She viewed me more like i

was a sort of intruder,coming to probably sabotage

something.

"You mean you don't know how you got here?" She asked

with a mischievous smile escaping her lips. I stared for a

while before answering.

.

"Yes i don't know how i....." I was still speaking when she cut

me short.

.

"And you weren't told you'd die if you tried accessing this

island? How did you escape the wild in the first place?" She

asked.

.

"Did you just say death? No please...You have to spare

me...Look,I've got someone back home who's probably

waiting for my arrival...My mom will commit suicide if I'm not

found on time and..." I was saying then she suddenly cut me

short,blasting me with a kind of mist ball which radiated from

her hands,sending me smashing against a rock.....

After she blasted me with the mist ball, i scurried up

immediately.

.

"Please don't do this....Just show me the way out of here and

I'll go" i pleaded but she wouldn't listen. She charged at

me,trying to punch me but this time,i found myself swiftly

avoiding all the punches she kept throwing,a happening which

i really don't understand how it was all happening.

Suddenly,she stopped throwing the punches,looking like she's

got another plan in mind.

"Alright....This is surely strange and guess what? You're very

lucky today...Nevertheless,I'll let you go and meet your fucking

bitchy mom" she said,making me fill up with anger. Suddenly,

i found myself growing thicker by the skin and taking a green

coloured form. My ears began to change,pointing out their tip.

My eyes changed to complete green and also,my muscles

explained and my bones creaked,taking another form as i fully

morphed into a green beast. I growled and faced the girl.

.

"Don't you ever insult my mom again or I'll kill you!!!" I said in

a loud monstrous voice. The girl suddenly smiled at herself

and began clapping her hands in unison.

.

"Amazing....This is what am exactly trying to do ....Trying to

make you angry in order to see your mutant form...and i knew

that will happen only by insulting your mother" she

said,making my high filled rage degrade slowly. I gradually

changed back into my normal human form...

.

"How did....what just happened?" I asked,holding my head

alongside as it pounded me very hard in pains.

.

"Never mind....You're the last of us....My name is

Kenzie...Come with me,Arthur" she said and turned,leading the

way. At first,i was reluctant to follow up but later completed

after she turned and gave me a cute reassuring smile....We

both walked together,chatting.

.

"So,how did you find yourself here as well?" I struck up a

conversation. Even though i sometimes behave like an

introvert,i also loved being the center of concentration during

any chatting,especially with someone I'm just meeting for the

first time. Kenzie kept mute for a while smiling before she

answered my question.

.

"We've been here for the past six months waiting for

you....Since the meteor has been discovered by humans back

on earth,we've also arrived this place since we know the

meteor will soon be choosing someone to make us complete"

Kenzie said,making me somehow confused.

.

"How many of you are here on this island?" I asked again.

Kenzie glanced at me and then faced her front again.

.

"We're three..But with you now,we're now the complete meteor

mutants chosen by different coloured meteors from different

planet to stop an invitation coming to earth from the

aliens....No one knows how soon it's going to be but it's

surely coming one day" Kenzie said. Obviously,I'm just

realizing the reason for the new developments in me.

.

"Past six months? Wow,that's a lot of patience" I said in a

calm tone. Kenzie smiled and returned her gaze back at me.

.

"What would we have done? I was kinda surprised when i

blasted you with a mist ball....Normally,an average human

wouldn't survive that attack because the mist ball will kill

ordinary humans instantly...It was until after that i became

convinced you're not an intruder" Kenzie said. I looked away

from her direction and spoke.

.

"So you had it in mind to kill me if i was an ordinary human?"

I asked. Kenzie didn't hide her answers.

.

"Yes i would've killed you....or there's probability you may not

have survived where you were coming from in the first place

already" Kenzie said. We both kept walking until we arrived at

another rocky arena where i saw two other figures sitting

quietly,facing the opposite direction,each wearing a jacket with

hoodies that covered their heads.

.

"Hey guys" Kenzie shouted as well walked on the partly

divided stones before getting to their position. The two boys

slowly uncovered their hoodies and turned at us

slowly,thinking it Kenzie was the only one coming. As soon as

they saw me,they both looked at each other and then returned

their gaze back at me and Kenzie.

.

"Kenzie...what do you think you're doing? You left us here

since and you're just returning now,even with a sick looking

boy with you?" One of the boys said,his words stung me like

hell .

.

"Excuse me...i am not sick!" I replied,almost sounding harsh.

The boy glanced at his second and then glanced at me,this

time smiling. He suddenly rushed at me and raised a fist to

punch me but i grabbed his fist,surprising him very greatly.

Even the second boy gasped in shock and amazement.

.

"Kenzie....who the hell is this boy with you? Did you see what

just happened?" The second boy asked Kenzie who was

pretending like she saw nothing. I let go of the boy's hand

immediately.

.

"That's what you should have asked me in the first place

before thinking of even attacking him...Now you've disgraced

yourself" Kenzie said,sounding like she was making fun of the

boy i grabbed his fist earlier.

.

"Alright knock this off Kenzie...why is he here?" The first boy

asked impatiently,casting an unpleasant look at me as he

spoke.

.

"Relax guys...This boy here isn't our enemy...He's the last of

us we've been waiting for his arrival for six months now....His

name is....." Kenzie was saying then i suddenly cut her short.

.

"My name is Arthur...Nice to meet you two" i said,stealing a

glance at Kenzie. Within few minutes,i came to realize i even

preferred Kenzie's personality than any other one of them.

.

"Little wonder he was able to grab my fist without even feeling

the impact at all....Well,my name is Boyka..Mutant

powers.....Super strength,Force field creations,Laser eyes,Ice

breath and flight" He said,extending a handshake which i

quickly responded to. As i shaken him,he tried to squeeze my

phalanges but he couldn't....I wouldn't say i am not even

more stronger than he was. The second boy noticed this and

stepped forward,gently disengaging our handshake.

.

"My name is Victor...Mutant powers.....Electric balls,Steel

control,telekinesis and flight" He said,also extending a

handshake which i responded to as well.

.

"Actually before now,I've discovered some few unusual things

about him which convinced me he's the last of us....He can

jump at an extreme high height,He's very strong and can

morph into a sort of green beast" Kenzie said. I swiftly threw

her a weird look immediately.

.

"Are you supposed to be speaking for me?" I asked with a

smile.

.

"Are you being sarcastic?" She also threw a question as well

and we both waved it off with a smile.

.

"Alright....That does it... Does anyone know a way outta here"

i asked,totally diverting the discussion and of course,it

triggered a negative effect on Boyka.

..

"What the hell is wrong with this guy? We've been here for

half a year waiting for you and now all you can say next is

finding a way out of here?" Boyka said. This time,i didn't pick

it as an offense but rather ready to explain why i had to say

that.

.

"Boyle listen... Don't look at me like i am trying to be

ungrateful or something but I've got someone who's at the

risk of committing suicide if i don't return to her on time....It's

my mother....I disappeared mysteriously from home to this

island,a happening i really don't understand how it took place"

I said. Boyka then heaved a sigh if relief....Maybe he wasn't

as harsh as i thought he is,afterall.

.

"Um...Okay,so guys let's start moving away from

here....We've got a long distance to cover in order to get out

of here....I should have opened a portal but you know I've not

mastered that aspect yet so,we have to walk" Kenzie said. I

glanced at her and as i made to look away again,her eyes

caught mine.

.

"What? Why looking at me?" She asked.

.

"You said you all come from different planets the other time

we first met right?" I asked. Victor smiled and spoke instead.

.

"Yes....Actually,you're just the human mutant among us..The

three of us aren't humans but full mutants from the

scratch...Just that we've got blood running in us as well"

Victor said. I then relaxed my inquisitiveness immediately.

.

"Arthur,you're here for a reason...You must have heard about

a meteor that was found in your planet by some

scientists...Well,the meteor was waiting for the right person to

pick and that happens to be you...We are bound to save

humans existence from a future invasion from the aliens and

some others similar" Boyka said,taking a dramatic pause.

"Would you mind telling us how you were mutated?" He added

and everyone smiled,except me who the question took by

surprise......I glanced at them all and then smiled.

"Yeah...but that's not going to happen now...Maybe later" I

said and the three of them burst into laughter...It was obvious

they were trying to force me to say it right there but i

wouldn't....We continued discussing till we got to a boundary

leading back to earth....
