From Gala Humiliation to Corporate Vengeance

Author: : Rabbit
Genre: Billionaires
Ellie Vance, Chairwoman of Vance Legacy Holdings, brought her daughter, Chloe, to a school gala. Her husband, David Miller, an SVP at her family's company, had claimed urgent VLH business. But Ellie saw him on stage: beaming, accepting an award. Beside him, Sophia Hayes-his college girlfriend and VLH employee-and her young son. They looked like a family. The knot in Ellie's stomach turned to ice. When Ellie confronted him, David embraced Sophia and Ethan, declaring, "This is my answer." Later, Chloe cried, "That's my Daddy! She's the mistress!" The crowd laughed. David, her husband, then announced, "I don't know these people," even shoving Chloe away. His text followed: "Stop causing a scene. You' re embarrassing yourself." How could he deny them? The man whose career depended on VLH, her company. The humiliation deepened as Sophia threw cash, and the crowd, VLH partners, jeered. The final blow: Sophia posted doctored videos online, portraying Ellie as an unhinged stalker, inciting cyberbullying. Then, a junior lawyer, dispatched by David, threatened Ellie with a multi-million dollar VLH lawsuit. The injustice burned, cold and precise. He'd used her company to attack her and her child. A profound silence fell. Ellie met David's smirk, Sophia's triumph, and the sneering faces. "As of this moment," Ellie declared, voice steady, eyes ice, facing the lawyer, "you're fired." This was the Chairwoman's public declaration of war.

Chapter 1

Eleanor "Ellie" Vance held her daughter Chloe' s hand, the small fingers tight in hers.

The ballroom of the elite private school glittered, but a knot formed in Ellie' s stomach.

David, her husband, was supposed to be here.

"A critical work crisis, Ellie," he had said on the phone, his voice strained. "VLH needs me. You and Chloe shouldn't go either, it'll be boring for her."

Chloe' s face had fallen.

"We're going, sweetie," Ellie had promised, seeing the tears well in her daughter's eyes. "Daddy will join us later if he can."

She knew VLH, her grandfather's company, Vance Legacy Holdings, inside out. She was the Chairwoman of the Board, the quiet power. David was a Senior Vice President, a position he got after they married. He liked to think he earned it all himself.

Now, they stood near the entrance, Chloe craning her neck.

"Is Daddy on stage, Mommy?"

Ellie looked. Her breath caught.

There was David, on the main stage, under a bright spotlight.

He wasn't working. He was beaming, accepting an award. "Distinguished Alumnus & Community Leader," the banner behind him proclaimed.

Next to him stood Sophia Hayes, a woman Ellie knew David had hired into VLH marketing. His college girlfriend.

Sophia held the hand of a young boy, Ethan, who looked about Chloe' s age.

They looked like a perfect family.

David leaned into the microphone. "Family values," he said, his voice smooth and confident, "are the cornerstone of a successful life. Achieving that work-life balance is key." He smiled, a warm, practiced smile, and his eyes met Sophia' s. She smiled back.

The applause was loud.

Chloe tugged Ellie's sleeve. "Mommy, why is Daddy with that lady? Who is that boy?"

The knot in Ellie' s stomach tightened into a cold, hard fist.

The host opened the floor for Q&A.

Ellie felt a strange calm descend. She moved towards an usher with a microphone.

"Ma'am?"

"I have a question for Mr. Miller," Ellie said, her voice even.

The usher handed her the mic. All eyes turned. David hadn't seen her yet.

"Mr. Miller," Ellie began, her voice carrying clearly through the ballroom. "Congratulations on your award. I just have one question."

David finally saw her. A flicker of something – panic? – crossed his face before his charming smile returned.

"When did you acquire a new son? And does your wife know about him?"

A wave of murmurs went through the crowd. People stared.

Ellie rarely attended such public events. She used her maiden name, Vance, professionally and kept a very low social profile. No one here knew who she was.

"Who is she?" someone whispered loudly.

"Must be some crazy admirer," another voice scoffed. "Trying to get attention from David Miller. His company, VLH, is huge."

Sophia gasped, placing a hand on her chest, looking offended. She pulled Ethan closer.

David' s eyes, cold now, locked on Ellie. He took a deliberate step, put his arm around Sophia, and drew her and Ethan into a tight embrace.

He turned back to the microphone, his voice ringing with false sincerity.

"This," he declared, looking directly at Ellie, then sweeping his gaze over the applauding crowd, "is my answer."

The ballroom erupted in cheers for their "true love."

Ellie' s phone buzzed. A text from David.

Just helping Sophia for the day. Ethan' s fatherless. Stop causing a scene, Ellie. You' re embarrassing yourself.

Chapter 2

Embarrassing herself.

Ellie stared at the phone, then at David on stage, soaking in the applause with Sophia at his side.

He was a Senior Vice President. She was the Chairwoman of Vance Legacy Holdings. He owed his entire career to her family, to her.

She felt a cold rage, sharp and clear.

She typed a quick message, her fingers steady.

To: Marcus Thorne, Chief Legal Officer, VLH.

To: Helen Ramirez, Head of HR, VLH.

Prepare termination papers for David Miller, SVP. Investigate Sophia Hayes, Marketing. Grounds: Gross misconduct, to be detailed. Effective immediately.

She hit send.

On stage, the Q&A was over. Chloe, confused and upset, suddenly shouted, her small voice surprisingly loud.

"That' s my Daddy! You' re a liar! She' s the mistress!" Chloe pointed a trembling finger at Sophia.

The crowd, which had been admiring David, now turned with amusement and disdain towards Chloe. Laughter rippled through the room.

"Oh, listen to the little actress," someone sneered.

Ethan, Sophia' s son, puffed up his chest and stepped towards Chloe. "My mom isn't a mistress! Your dad loves my mom!" He shoved Chloe hard.

Chloe stumbled back, tears streaming down her face. "Daddy!"

Ellie stepped forward. "David, tell them. Tell them who we are."

This was his last chance.

David looked from Ellie to Chloe, his face a mask of contempt.

"I don't know these people," he announced to the crowd, his voice firm. "They seem to be disturbed. If they continue to harass me and my family, VLH will be forced to take legal action."

He turned his back on them. He actually shoved Chloe slightly as she reached for him, a small, dismissive push.

Chloe stared at his retreating back, her small face crumpled in devastation.

Sophia smirked at Ellie, a look of pure triumph.

Ellie knelt beside her daughter. "Chloe, listen to me." She wiped Chloe's tears. "From now on, you don' t have a father."

Chloe sobbed, burying her face in Ellie' s shoulder.

Ellie' s phone buzzed again. David.

This is all your fault. You and your brat. Go home before you make things worse.

Ellie didn't reply. She held Chloe tight. The game was on.
