Chapter 1
The words were a physical blow,
"I, Robert, reject you, Aurora, as my mate. You are not permitted to come close to me or refer to me as your mate.
You are a disgusting dimwit, a loner, and a weakling. You do not deserve happiness, cursed woman."
Aurora felt a hollow emptiness spread through her chest as if her heart had shattered into a thousand fragments.
She had never imagined that her mate, her childhood crush, Robert, would reject her so publicly.
Robert was every girl's dream man-a Greek god in human form with strength, height, and those charming eyes that could make any girl's legs quake.
They had been close friends during their school years, a bond that was severed when her mother died of a heart disease and her father remarried. The new woman in her father's life had brought a child into the world without their knowledge-a child born of betrayal. Aurora's father, once the perfect alpha and loving mate, had turned cold towards her since her stepmother entered their lives.
Her heart ached as she watched Robert mark her stepsister, Rebecca, a product of her father's infidelity. The sight of them moaning in pleasure, in front of the entire school, was a bitter pill to swallow.
"I take Rebecca as my mate, my goddess-given mate. She will unite our packs."
Robert's words echoed in her ears, his disdainful gaze searing into her soul.
A cruel shove from Robert sent her sprawling on the floor, her head smacking against the cold, hard surface.
"Never show your face to me again. I don't know what the goddess was thinking to mark a weakling like you as my mate. You, who killed her mother, are a disgrace to our packs."
His words cut deeper than any physical wound, and she felt her body convulse with the onslaught of shame, pain, and heartbreak.
Pulling on her last reserves of strength, she stumbled to her feet and fled from the scene. She could feel the eyes of the crowd on her, their whispers and laughter stabbing at her like invisible knives. She knew it was only a matter of time before the news would spread: 'The Weakling Daughter Of The Blood Moon Pack Has Been Rejected By Her Mate, The Son Of The Alpha Of The Cresten Wolf Pack.'
The remnants of her reputation would be shredded to pieces.
Finding solace in her secret hideaway, she allowed tears to flow freely. Her wolf, her inner spirit, had blacked out after Robert's rejection. 'How dare you, Robert,' she whispered through her sobs. 'What did I do to deserve this pain and shame?'
Ellen, her best friend who had always stood by her, wrapped her arms around her.
"Shhh, stop crying. Robert doesn't deserve a woman like you. He's the one who's missing out on a wonderful woman,"
Ellen soothed, rocking her gently. Aurora clung to her friend, pouring out her pain and heartbreak.
"I want to run away, Ellen,"
Aurora confessed, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Far away from my pack, from Robert, from all this pain. I can't endure it anymore."
Ellen was silent for a moment, contemplating Aurora's words. She knew the dangers that lurked outside their pack-the rogues that wouldn't hesitate to tear apart a lone wolf.
"I don't think that's possible, Aurora. You know how dangerous it is outside our pack. We just ended a brutal war and our enemies are still out there, waiting to strike again. Let's return home,"
Ellen urged, gently pulling Aurora to her feet.
As they approached her father's mansion, Aurora shivered. Ever since her mother's death, her father, the alpha of the Blood Moon pack, had become a living nightmare. He had locked her away in the darkest corner of the mansion, isolating her for a year. When he finally let her out, he had brutally declared, '
"This is your punishment for killing your mother, my beloved mate. Your life will be filled with pain, and you will never see happiness again. I will make sure of it."
Aurora still didn't know what she had done to earn such a curse, but she knew her life would never be the same again.
"Aurora, you're lost in thought again,"
Ellen's voice brought her back to reality. They settled onto her bed, Ellen wrapping her arm around her in a comforting gesture. Aurora wasn't crying anymore, but she knew it was a temporary respite. The pain was always there, lurking just beneath the surface.
"Why can't we elope, Ellen? You're strong. You can fight the rogues,"
Aurora pleaded, looking at Ellen with desperate eyes. After a long moment of silence, Ellen nodded.
"I can help you escape. But on one condition..."
Their conversation was interrupted by the opening of the bedroom door.
Rebecca, her stepsister, stood there with a malicious smile on her face.
"Ooh, you're here with your friend,"
she sneered, her eyes glinting with mischief.
"And what do you need, queen mother?"
Aurora asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm. She was never scared of Rebecca, but she was wise enough to avoid unnecessary conflict.
Ignoring Aurora's barbed remark, Rebecca continued to gloat.
"I thought you would be mute after your mate rejected you and marked me in your presence, and you still feel quite lively and not fully broken, but I do not think you will still have it in you once I tell you this news, you will feel shattered and your plans of eloping will also be shattered."
Aurora was shocked at what she said, Rebecca possesses a strong breeder wolf which gives her a high chance of eavesdropping on their conversation before walking into her room, both Aurora and Ellen remained silent, refusing to give Rebecca the satisfaction of a response.
"Well, I have some news for you,"
Rebecca continued, sauntering over to Aurora. She bent down, her lips close to Aurora's ear.
The words she whispered turned Aurora's world upside down. Her face turned ashen, and her eyes widened in disbelief. The room around her seemed to spin as she tried to comprehend the devastating piece of information Rebecca had just shared.
Chapter 2
When Ellen saw the change of emotions on her face, she felt concerned and quickly shook Aurora back to reality, ignoring Rebecca, who was leaving the room after she must have accomplished her mission.
"Aurora, what is it? What's the problem?"
Ellen asked, still with concern.
Aurora stared at her. Now, her face's colors were returning to normal, and the shock was slowly leaving her.
"My father..."
She whispered, then tears began to drop from her eyes as she sniffed. Was today ever going to get worse, she thought?
"My father has planned to marry me out to the devil."
Aurora said as she felt fear consume her. She stared at Ellen, who hadn't spoken a word after her statement, and her face showed she was still confused by her words.
"Who's that devil, Robert?"
Ellen asked, still trying to grasp the situation.
"Nooo."
She emphasized,
"If it were Robert, I would accept him with shame and take my fate. I will be forcefully given to the alpha king, alpha Adam, the devil, killer, and devourer who has never seen the day."
Aurora said that fear raked through her body this time, sending chills all over her. She thought getting mated to Robert was the most significant punishment of her life, but that didn't seem so; it was better she get bred to her mate rather than marry Alpha Adam.
Ellen stared at her; her eyes were wildly open, and she felt chills. The alpha was sending his daughter to her death yard; she never wished her enemy to be with him.
The news that they heard about him while growing up was gruesome. Many stories have been told about him, and none were pleasant; some say he was a Lycan, and others say the vampire king had bitten him and thus turned into a hybrid; the mention of his name alone can stop a war.
"How is that possible?"
Ellen asked, coming back to reality; this is not just news but one which will change the life status of Aurora, her best friend.
"I do not know. My father had always hated me, but I never knew it was to this extent."
Aurora said quickly, standing up. As she walked towards the door, she would head to her father's throne and question him. She did not care if he would punish her like he always did or even starve her; that was a routine.
"Where are you heading to Aurora?"
Ellen asked as she turned to watch her; she was about to leave the room angrily.
"To question this report, and if it's true, I will ask him why; why is he sending me to my death? I do not want to die in the hands of the devil."
Aurora said, quickly stepping out. She was a weakling, so weak that she couldn't defend herself, but she was stubborn, audacious, and had alpha blood in her; she was a ginger-haired girl with fury within her.
As she stepped towards her father's throne, she was surprised to find her stepmother and some elders there; they seemed to be in a deep discussion, and included in the people present was Alpha Nathan, Robert's father. She stared at him, questioning his presence. Alpha Nathan hardly leaves his pack, but his being here meant something important was happening.
As soon as she stepped in, everyone stared at her with surprise. No one was expecting the weakling daughter of the alpha right in the center of the meeting; they had only known the king to have one daughter, her sister Rebecca.
Aurora could feel the disgust radiating from her stepmother's eyes and the stares she received from the pack members and Robert's father.
"What do you need in here? You were never invited."
Her father sneered with a loud voice from his throne.
Quickly, she fell to her knees; whenever she was around her father, she constantly trembled; he had tamed her to fear him and tortured her never to disobey him or anyone within the pack.
"I'm here regarding the news I heard from Rebecca, my step-sister; I wish to confirm if it is true?"
She said, still kneeling and hoping for a negative response.
"You dare enter my meeting ground to interrupt my discussion with Alpha Nathan!"
He said it, his voice so piercing that it sent shivers all over her body.
"You will be getting married to Alpha Adam in the next week; that should be enough to make you prepare for your departure. At least you should be grateful that we sold you out to a powerful man rather than allowing you to waste your useless life here."
Her father said there was no single emotion in his words, no single kindness, which signified that he was her father.
"Take her away from here and prepare her for her departure."
Alpha Erik said as he stared at his daughter with hatred and anger. He watched as the guards dragged her carelessly from the floor, and Luna followed behind.
As they dragged her out from the grand room towards her room, she knew her security would triple; her father would have eyes watching over her, and she would never be allowed to step foot out of the building again.
"Leave us!"
Marissa, her stepmother, commanded the guards, and quickly, she was left alone with the woman who had made her life a living hell.
"Your father has sent you to die in the hands of the devil; no one has ever survived living with him.'
Aurora stared at her stepmother with hatred, fear, and anger.
"Why do you hate me so much? Why do you allow me to be married off to the demon, the devil? Is that how much you hated me?"
She whispered to Marissa. Marissa stared at her with dark, devious eyes and a little sly grin on her face, she said.
"You are a curse, and because you are a curse, you are the perfect gift to grant to the devil for saving our lands; at least, you served a meaningful purpose, and you will not leave this castle unless I command it."
Marissa said, throwing her a scary look before leaving the room.
Aurora stared at the disappearing figure of her stepmother, and she knew that she was right; Marissa would never allow her to leave the castle, but then she would have to prove her wrong; she was going to escape before her own family and pack destroyed her life.
Chapter 3
It's been five days, and Aurora only has two days to leave her pack. She had lived under the shadows of her room for the past few days, and she could not grasp what she wanted to do to escape. No central plan crafted by Elena was a success, as she was never allowed to leave the pack or even leave her room except the kitchen and had guards who watched every step she took.
As she walked again towards the kitchen, she heard a sound coming out from the end of the passage, which leads to the Library. It sounded more like grunts, and she wondered if someone was in pain. Slowly, she walked towards the path, watching her steps as the ground was rocky and she was barefooted; the grunts now were increasing, and another sound came with it. It was a moan, a moan from the end of a passage; before she could realize what was happening, she saw two shadows in the dark, and it was apparent what they were doing: they were making out,
"Aurora, what are you doing here, you bitch, aren't you supposed to be preparing to be married off loser."
She heard a voice that sounded quite familiar and cocky said to her, and then it struck her,
"Rebecca!"
She whispered in shock. She was half naked as she was bent on the wall with her hands held by Robert while he was having sex with her; she hadn't gotten used to letting her mate go, nor had she gotten used to seeing her mate banging her sister so immensely.
"We are busy. Are you blind to see that?"
Rebecca said as she let go of Robert and arranged her dress while Robert quickly zipped up his trousers in a hurry.
"I'm sorry, I heard a sound coming from here, and I thought someone was in danger."
Aurora winced as her body shook with sadness, and it didn't take long for tears to start cascading down from her cheeks; she wasn't ready for all of this,
"Well, ex-mate, you have to get used to seeing me around fucking your sister; we felt convenient having it here; I hope you enjoyed the show?"
Roberts said as he roughly pushed her to the wall, which made her hit her butt on the ground with so much force that she hissed with pain, and that wasn't over; if she had known she would meet her nightmare in here she wouldn't have bothered coming, she would have minded her business, but instead, she decided to chip in.
"Next time, always call the guards for assistance; someone like you cannot even save the day, so do not bother coming here alone, or you won't be lucky."
Robert said while he held onto her upper cloth.
"leave her, don't advise her; she might still well die before she gets married off to the devil himself; perhaps her life will be easier and shorter."
Rebecca said, obviously jealous that Robert was still talking to her step-sister, and she quickly dragged his hands away from her as they walked away, not before stepping on her.
As they walked off from the passage, Aurora felt heavy sobs raked through her body; she never expected to be treated this way growing up. Life was slow and perfect, but now she lives in shambles of her past, and only the little remnant of her past gives her but a little hope.
She stood up as she gazed through the hall in which the two couples had strode off from, she looked upward, and she found a window there, a window big enough to contain her, and a smile crept on her face; damn the consequences, she was going to escape the next day, with the help of her best friend Elena, the next day, that is when alpha Adam will come to take his beloved depressed bride.
****************
Aurora woke up with a smile on her face; her plan had been crafted; all she needed to do was wait for Elena to come over, and as if the goddess was working with her on her escape, Elena walked into the room, she looked a little bit stressed but also excited for whatever reason.
"You look stressed and excited. Are you okay?"
Aurora inquired as she quickly dressed up for the day. Elena looked down at her, and she wondered what was going on with her; she seemed so excited for someone who was going to be married off to the devil.
"My father bought my dream car, the Jeep Wrangler, and I'm so stressed with the excitement of driving that around, and I wished you to be around to see me drive that around, but you will be married to Alpha Devil..."
"I plan to escape, escape to the human world, away from my father and the pack and my soon-to-be husband."
Aurora said, interrupting her words. She was so excited that her best friend finally owned a car, which would be an excellent departure memory for her.
"And what's the plan?"
Elena asked, looking so surprised and astonished.
"I saw a window at the upper side of the castle, and I know the window. We usually used that window to escape as a kid and play hide and seek with Robert when we were still friends, and he hadn't met my bitchy step-sister. I think I know how to escape using that Window. It is high from the ground, but there's a built ground balanced enough for me to walk over. This ground leads to a secret passage leading you out of the castle. It has been forgotten for years now, and I had used it to save a friend of ours and helped her escape from our pack without anyone noticing."
Elena said as she quickly stood up from the bed; she bent down to Elena and whispered something into her ears. Elena's eyes widened at her words,
"I'm going to help you escape Aurora, even if that's the last thing I can do to help you. I won't watch my best friend get tortured more than this."
Aurora said, quickly standing up. They headed to the door; they had no time left, and as if knowing on cue what they had planned, the gate to the entrance opened, and Marissa stepped into the room alongside Rebecca, who gave her a wicked smile.
"I knew you would plan on escaping today, but that won't be possible."
Marissa said as she approached Aurora. She examined her face, brushed her hair backward, and her actions caused Aurora to gasp with shock; why was she trying to be so nice to her because she would be married off and away from her way?
The guards will lead you to your husband's pack members; they are here to see their betrothed. You better behave and abolish every escape plan, or you will be significantly punished. Be grateful that you will be married off to the most powerful werewolf in the world... It's just if you will survive him."
She said the last words in a whisper, and she felt her body shake with betrayal, hurt, and hopelessness.
She wasn't going to escape as planned; her plans had been ruined, and there was no hope of escaping, or was there?
