Chapter 1 THE PLOT

Kassidy's POV:

"Get away from me you good-for-nothing bitch!" he shouted, and as I turned to run, he grabbed me by the arm and pulled me close. I struggled to get away, but his grip was too strong. He drew back his leg and kicked me, and I fell to the floor with a thud. I curled up, trying to protect myself from his blows, but they kept coming. I could hear him yelling obscenities at me, but I couldn't make out the words over the ringing in my ears. I was helpless, and I knew there was no escape.

I lay there on the floor, dazed and in pain, I thought about how I had ended up here. It all began a few years ago when my mother decided to get married to him because she didn't want me to grow up without a father figure. I never thought I needed a father, because the love my mum gave me was greater than anything that I could imagine. Everything turned upside down the moment she got married to this man, who made things difficult for both of us. Of course, men like him were always the pleasant ones, wanting to be everything in the beginning for the woman so she could let her guard down. My mother innocently thought he was going to be the best father for me. But that was the mistake she made.

"Get the fuck up!" He kicked me again on my aching rib causing me to groan in pain.

"Please... please stop," I begged, signaling to him. But he wasn't about to relent. He moved towards me and pulled me by the hair. "Ahhh," I screamed, tears stinging my eyes.

"Who the hell do you think you are, telling me to stop?" His grip tightened on my hair. I gritted my teeth in pain because it felt as though he was pulling my hair out of my head. Just when I thought that was it, his other hand gripped my neck. "Cat got your tongue? Or you just don't want to answer?" I managed to hold his hand, trying to ease the grip he had on my neck, but it was hopeless. His eyes gleamed with malice, making me wonder why he hated me so much.

"Dad!" He paused at the mention of his name, then turned. There was his daughter, Melody, pouting.

"What's the matter?" he questioned before letting me go. I landed with a thud on the floor while he walked over to his daughter.

"I'd been calling you for hours, but you refused to pick up," she said.

"I'm so sorry, darling. You see, I was in the middle of something." He gave me a side-eye. Frightened, I moved back.

Melody glanced at me, and then her brows cocked. "Oh? I see," she smirked as she gently walked over to my side. "It's such a pity you had to endure a life like this. But then again, the one offered to you was simply too much for you to handle." She bent to my level. "You're weak. The politics that come with working in a company as successful as your father's should be handled only by the experienced." She rose and turned to her father. "Dad! You promised you'd give me the will!"

"I'm so sorry, sweetheart. I didn't forget about it. It's just your older sister isn't willing to give it up," he growled with a scowl on his face. Melody turned toward me.

"What the hell Kassidy? Do you need me to spell it out to you?" She stepped closer to me while I shook out of fear. "You are simply not worth it, you stinky bitch. Take a good look at yourself. Your father would be ashamed to have you as his daughter. He chose the wrong person to take over his company. I'm trying to handle it for you and now you won't give it?" She tilted her head with folded arms. "Do you want this done the hard way? I pretty much prefer violence when it comes to handling some things. Or better, watching you cry in pain as you're being... touched." My eyes widened in disbelief as she giggled. "Rico!" She called and a 6'7 gigantic man walked into the room. My eyes widened because I knew what he was here for. She had a smirk on her face. "You know what to do."

The man obediently stalked closer to me, terrifying me to the core. I moved backward, attempting to distance myself from him. My legs betrayed me because I couldn't get up when I tried to; I tried using my hands for support but it didn't just work. He held me by the collar and pulled me up. I was more than certain that my features were filled with nothing but terror. He seemed so proud of himself because of the fear written all over my demeanor.

"I'm going to have so much fun with you, aren't I?"

"No...no please stop. Please Melody don't do this!" I cried out while Rico went ahead to rip my shirt off. "No! Let me go!" I kicked him in the groin causing him to groan, but he recovered almost instantly...his face contorting into anger. The scowl that appeared on his face made him ten times scarier than he was earlier.

"Why the hell are you acting innocent? We all know you're not a virgin bitch." She said while I struggled with this man.

"Stay still you fucking bitch or I'll have you against the wall!" The man said while I cried out in plea.

"We've given you the condition, haven't we? You can either give that to us or suffer this disgrace. And oh, I almost forgot." She said, bringing her phone out to take pictures. "Nothing bad in sharing this for the world to see, right? The popular late Raymond Jean's daughter had her sex tape leaked to the internet. It was discovered that she had been having an affair with an unknown man while betrothed to Bruno Ashantee. It would be trending news on the internet, wouldn't it?" She questioned with a malicious smirk. Her father was in total support of his daughter and it scared me to death. I tried to scream as this man had his disgusting hands under my thighs. He instantly covered my mouth so I wouldn't scream. Melody laughed as she recorded.

Tears dropped from my eyes as I stared at the man in front of me who was enjoying everything. He was enjoying inflicting so much pain on me. I was completely weak and could no longer fight back. "Whatever needed to happen could happen", I said to myself.

A gunshot resounded in the room... unanticipatedly. I screamed into the hand of this man who stared at me with still eyes...body unmoving, before... slowly, his grip loosened on me while he dropped to the floor alongside me. I gasped as the air was nearly knocked out of me upon hitting the ground, burdened by his weight.

"I would have loved to watch the show, but unfortunately, I don't share."

Chapter 2 BRUISES

Kassidy's POV:

My hands trembled uncontrollably as I stood before them. I was terrified of my family, but I was more terrified of the man that stood in front of me. I sat there on the ground, while he loomed over me like a dark, imposing figure. His eyes were as cold as ice and as hard as a rock, his lips were twisted into nothing but a cruel smirk. He stood there, like a villain, making me feel powerless, like a mouse in front of a cat...I was completely at his mercy. He looked like my enemy...an adversary and I had to accept that he was going to destroy me. He was scarier than he looked in the images. This man would kill me without blinking twice. I wanted to run...but there I was, frozen in place, like a fly caught in a spider's web. I watched as he advanced towards me...I tried to move but everything was like a dream. I couldn't.

I heard a soft giggle from Melody, who was enjoying seeing me in fear. He then crouched to my level, causing me to instinctively close my eyes out of fear. Then I felt as he placed his hand on my shoulder, his grip iron-like. His breath brushed against my ear, making me shudder. His breath was ragged and harsh. I simply didn't have a good feeling about him. He was savoring the moment, watching as my family humiliated me. I had lost, I was defeated and had nothing left. But I knew, I didn't want to marry him. He was my worst nightmare.

If he could kill someone without hesitation like he did some minutes ago, then he could do the same to me. I flinched when his fingers gripped my chin, forcing me to open my eyes and look at him. There was nothing but hunger in his gaze, with a mixture of distaste. I was on the verge of gasping when his eyebrows furrowed.

Then that smirk appeared again. My heart beating wildly in my chest as I panicked. I felt trapped, terrified, scared, and desperate... desperate to escape.

"Someone like you will certainly do as I please." His gaze narrowed. "There won't be a problem if you succumb to my will." I tried pulling away from him but he pulled me closer, displeased with the fact that I wanted to get rid of his touch.

"I won't..." I finally let it out. And the room went eerily silent.

"What did you just fucking say?" Bruno questioned with a queer look.

"I'm not marrying you," I said.

"Oh darling, but you have no choice," Melody said like the annoying little sister that she was. I trembled... but this time with anger and disbelief. The look on her father's face could send people to hell if it was possible.

"Whether or not you like it, your birthright belongs to me. Everything you have belongs to me now. Don't you see that we're doing you a favor by actually marrying you off to one of the richest men in the world? It's a compensation. Accept it and be grateful for once!" She yelled.

"Grateful, for getting married, but not on my terms? You want my birthright and yet that's not enough for you, you also want to marry me off to him, despite who he is? You never wanted anything good for me, you have always wanted my life to be miserable. It's not like you all don't know he can kill me. But you'd be happy if he did, right?!" That was the first time I would ever yell at someone in that house- I could no longer bottle up the anger I felt. Melody walked up to me and gave me a hot slap in the face. I touched my cheeks in disbelief as my head jerked to the side. My so-called husband-to-be cocked a brow at me when I looked at him.

"I would have done worse if she hadn't saved your ass." He growled as he rose.

"You're so dumb for acting as though you don't know the terms," Melody spoke. "You must marry Bruno or you'll lose everything!"

"I'm not losing anything to you, you hear me?!" I yelled and it was her father's turn to hit me in the face.

"You despicable fool. Your mother would have been better off without a daughter like you. You have a chance to uphold the dignity you have left and you're acting like an idiot!" He said and there I was, sobbing uncontrollably.

I glared at him, my fists clenched at my sides. "I will not marry him," I said, my voice shaking.

"You still don't understand, don't you? You have no fucking choice." Melody mentioned, her tone smug and superior. "Your opinion is useless. Either marry Bruno or lose everything. It's that simple." She said making me laugh humorlessly.

"Easy for you to say. You're the one asking for my birthright."

She looked at me with hatred in her eyes.

"Bruno, can't you see how she's speaking to me?" She said turning to him. It felt like everything was planned, they had probably had a meeting earlier on to agree on ways to make my life more miserable than they already have since I joined their family.

"I thought you wouldn't ask." He said to her and hit me on the side of my face. I fell to the other side with a sharp scream. I tasted a metallic liquid on the corner of my lips. Tears dropped from my eyes.

I knew Melody had always been jealous of me, trying to bring me down at all costs. I saw the glee in her eyes as she had her chance with me.

"I will not do it," I said, my voice trembling with tears.

My strength waned despite my resolve, and I couldn't help but tremble as her words echoed in my ears. I felt myself slipping away, crumbling, with each passing moment, my strength ebbing.

"It's the only way. You either take it or leave it. But know one thing, if you refuse, you'll be outside, living on the streets and begging for food. You'll be stripped of everything you have, even your clothes."

I yearned to lash out, to unleash a torrent of screams and rage, but an invisible force restrained me. I sensed myself shrinking, with their accusations looming over me. They were right. Bruno seemed to be my sole lifeline. Was this all part of a calculated scheme? With no family, no home, and no discernible future, I felt the weight of my predicament pressing down on me.

I had to make a quick decision. A decision I would regret for the rest of my life.

"Fine," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I will marry him."

My words seemed to echo in the silence of the room, and I felt as if I had just signed my death warrant. But I knew that I had no choice.

Now that I had surrendered, I had to confront the repercussions of my decision. A feeling of resignation washed over me, but I had embraced my destiny. Though a spark of defiance flickered briefly, I extinguished it before it could fully ignite. What was the point?

Melody stepped forward. "You're pathetic," she sneered with a twisted face. "Where's the once-strong Kassidy Jean? A disappointment to her entire family. You're nothing but a coward, weak, and too terrified to stand up for yourself. The company doesn't need a weak person like you; it would crumble within a week of you being in it." She demeaned.

"You've always been this way." Her stepfather continued without any emotion. His eyes were cold. "You've always been a disappointment. And now you've proven once again that you're not worthy of our name."

Their word profoundly stung.

I felt myself shrinking under their gaze, my courage deserting me. No matter how many times I tried to convince myself that I could stand up to them, the words always remained hollow. I had no strength left, no will to fight. I felt like a burden, even to myself. I was a broken shell of a person, alone and empty.

The pregnant silence stretched for what felt like hours as I continued writing under the scrutiny of my stepfather and stepsister. As if on cue, a man walked into the room, and I recognized him as my father's lawyer. While I thought this was going to be my salvation, he brought out a paper and gave it to Melody. My eyes widened.

"You..." I called. "They bribed you didn't they?" When my mother had warned my father not to give his will to this man, I wish he had listened. The man looked down in shame and backed away.

"I couldn't, they have too much authority." He said.

"More authority than the law?" I whispered.

Bruno smirked. "I am the law." I watched as Melody took an inkwell, walked over to me, and forced my thumb into the ink before pressing it against the paper. My eyes watered as I witnessed my birthright being ripped away from me unwillingly.

"When do you plan to get married to her Bruno?" Melody questioned.

"Tonight isn't too early, is it?" He questioned. But I only sat there, completely numb.

"It's perfect." And then, finally, they turned away, leaving me to my despair. I sank to the floor, the last of my strength draining away. Bruno suddenly paused.

"Go change before I get back. Your tears make me sick." He said and walked away.

I sat on the floor, my head in my hands, and I wept. I wept for the loss of everything I had ever known. I wept for the person I had been before they had taken everything from me. I wept for the future that I would never have. And then, finally, I wept for myself. For the first time, I allowed myself to feel the full weight of my loss, to grieve for what I had been and what I could have been. And in that moment, I felt something inside me break.

I realized that I had been lying to myself. I thought I was strong and capable of fighting back. But I was just fooling myself. I was weak and helpless, a shadow of the person I used to be. I couldn't even stand up to my stepfather and stepsister, how could I possibly hope to fight against the rest of the world? I was nothing, a nobody. And as I stood there, I felt my spirit shatter.

I rose from where I stood, my legs trembling, my head bowed in shame. As I ascended the stairs, my legs continued to tremble before I entered my room. I had no planned outfit to wear, assuming we were heading to court.

I changed into a simple white gown while styling my hair. As I looked at myself in the mirror, I didn't recognize the person staring back at me.

The bruises were evident, and the discoloration told a painful story.

My tears were silent as I surveyed my room, my father had specially built it for me on my 11th birthday.

I never wanted to change anything because I wanted to remember him always. But the same daughter he sacrificed everything for, was too much of a coward to sacrifice anything for him.

My sobs became a bit louder when someone barged into my room, causing me to jerk my head towards the direction. His hand gripped my neck, choking me, while I struggled against him.

"I'll never forget what you said earlier about me, you little slut. Telling them you don't want to get married to someone like me?" He let out a humorless chuckle. "How sick."

"Please, Bruno." I struggled to say.

"You don't matter to me, and you never will." He pushed me to the ground as I sobbed. "But here, my dear, you're meant to please me. If your stepfather had not come begging on his knees, I wouldn't be marrying you. So you better make this worth it or I'll have to kill you with my bare hands." He said, causing me to tremble out of fright as he moved towards me.

No... not this night, I wasn't ready to lose my virginity. I fled out of the room but he was quick to catch me. He slammed me to the wall and my head hit hard against it. I wasn't strong enough to take the pain that came with it...my head felt light, and the next thing I knew was that I was consumed by darkness.

Chapter 3 BRIDGE OF MARRIAGE

Kassidy's POV:

I woke up with a groan as I felt a knock-out pain that shot through my head. I stayed there with my eyes shut for some moments before clutching my head.

Slowly opening my eyes, it dawned on me that I was in a moving vehicle.

I sat up as fast as I could, not knowing when I got into a car.

The last thing I remembered was my head hitting the...I gasped as I remembered Bruno.

Fully conscious, I leaned against the car door, trying to stay away from him.

Suddenly, I heard a humorless chuckle. I raised my gaze to see him leaning against the door on his side with his index finger resting on his lips.

"You're lucky I didn't. I was about to screw you the moment you fainted." He said without looking at me.

The car suddenly stopped and I looked around as though I would find out where we were by merely checking the surroundings.

He got out of the car after the driver unlocked it.

Then the door suddenly opened on my side, before I got down with surprise.

Even though it was an act of service, I felt special with that little gesture.

Nobody had opened a door for me before.

I stepped down from the car and followed Bruno as he headed towards the mansion before us.

I gasped at the sight of this breathtaking mansion, the beauty of it captivated my eyes and the atmosphere was so calm and overwhelming.

The pool was lit up, casting different shades of light as water sprouted into it. I stopped when he did, at his doorstep, before he opened the door.

"Oh my gosh, you're back." A lady said, kissing him on the cheek.

I was confused, seeing her dressed in an outfit that left very little to the imagination.

"Bruno, I hope you haven't forgotten what you promised me, hmm?" Another lady walked up while both ladies pulled him in.

I was still dazed, trying to understand what was going on.

Then gently, I stepped into the house.

My brows were furrowed as one of the ladies turned to me with a cocked brow before turning to Bruno once again.

"Who is she?" She asked Bruno who turned towards me, narrowing his gaze.

His eyes gave absolutely nothing away.

The nonchalance in them stated how much he just didn't care about me. Then the first girl's eyes dropped to my fingers.

"Oh, this...this is your wife? Why didn't you introduce us?" She stepped closer to me with a warm smile that I knew wasn't sincere. "I'm Cassie. Nice to finally meet you." She stretched her hand, which I hesitantly took. She gave me a tight smile.

"Adriana." The second Lady said as she stepped closer and took my hand, shaking it with a smile. Feigned, I must add. "We're going to be needing him for the night." She added.

She moved to him, rubbing her hands on Bruno. He grasped her ass, causing her to gasp as her chest touched his. He smirked down at her, and of course, I knew these were his mistresses.

"You might have to excuse us." Adriana moved towards me and pushed me out the door. "I'm sure your husband wouldn't mind." Then she slammed the door against my face. Tears dropped from my eyes because of how I was being treated. It felt like a continuation from where my so-called family stopped.

Even my husband didn't love me. But I had to keep reminding myself that this wasn't a real marriage.

The wind blew harshly, brushing against my skin. I shuddered the moment I felt it.

The night cold was terrible, and within a few moments, I was freezing.

Still in my white dress, I knelt on the ground and wrapped an arm around myself. I felt so lonely at this point, not even knowing what to feel because everything was taken away from me. I had nothing anymore to give or to receive. And here I was, wondering why life had to be so harsh.

The fact that I was ousted, even by my husband's mistresses, on the first day I stepped into his house made me anticipate a lot of unpleasant surprises ahead. I hugged my leg to my chest as I tried to keep myself warm.

"Oww, Bruno! I can't..." A series of giggles along with moans followed.

"Stop being a baby and take it like a good girl," I heard grunts, and it was starting to gross me out. I covered my ears, but they were so loud.

"Bruno!!!"

"You're both so tight good!"

I rummaged through my purse and got my phone before dialing a number.

"Damien, Damien, Damien." I searched my call history and clicked on his number. He picked up almost immediately. "Damien."

"What's wrong?" He asked with concern in his tone.

"I need your help."

"Where are you?" He said and I could hear some papers in the background like he was packing them up as fast as he could.

"I'll send you the address." I sobbed.

Soon he arrived at the gate, while I hurriedly rose and rushed towards the car.

Damien got out while I hugged him. His grip on me was tight as I sobbed on his shirt. I felt him kiss my forehead a few times.

"It's okay, I'm here now," he stroked my hair before pulling away and cupping my face. "Let's get to my place first," he said, his eyes darkening as they shifted to the mansion behind me. I nodded while he went ahead to open up the car door for me.

He shut the door and hurried to his side before starting the car. My face was turned to the window throughout our drive.

The street lights lit the road up as we zoomed past some cars.

I didn't say anything... couldn't say anything. I just wanted peace and quietness.

We arrived at his mansion. Everything about Damien screamed old money.

From his mansion to the way he dressed and even the way he treated women.

With his calming presence and excellent listening skills, he provided me with the support I desperately needed during this difficult time. Our childhood friendship has always been characterized by being there for one another, just as he is for me now.

There, we got down from his car, and he opened the door for me, helping me step out of the car.

Seeing that I was too weak to walk, his eyes met mine. His icy blue eyes were observant, as though he was searching for a sign to execute his intentions.

I didn't understand but I trusted him so I didn't care what followed after this.

He placed one hand behind my shoulder and the other beneath my thigh and lifted me. I didn't even protest.

He always did this whenever I was this way. We entered the building and he took me up the stairs till we were in a room. I enjoyed the sweet-smelling fragrance that came from him, as much as I enjoyed being carried, even though it was for a short period.

After placing me on his bed, he crouched and stared at me in the eyes.

My eyes watered with tears. I'd missed Damien so much. After all these years I was finally meeting him again.

The last time we met physically was when I was ten.

I was nineteen now, and he still answered my calls as if we had just met yesterday.

"I saw everything on the news. It's all over the internet that you both are married." He began.

"I didn't plan for any of it to happen," I said as I looked at him.

"I know you didn't sweetheart." He said stroking my hair.

"I had no choice," I sobbed again. "And even now, I can't be in my husband's house in peace because of his mistresses. I would have slept outside in the cold if you hadn't come for me," I said, still sobbing, while he hugged me to his chest. We stayed like that for a while before he gently pulled away. He grabbed my chin with his index finger, my tears still dropping.

Our eyes lingered for a moment too long before his lips connected to mine.

I didn't protest.
