Chapter 1 Mom is marrying the father of the boy who bullied me

Abigail's POV

My name is Abigail Jones, I'm 21 years old. I have brown eyes and plump lips. Here I am sitting in church with a forced smile on my face as I watch my mom getting married to someone who is not my dad. Don't get me wrong, I am happy for her but the problem is the man she is getting married to has a son and he has been a pain in my ass since grade school.

Derick and I have been enemies since grade school, I still remember how he'd bully me. When we got into college, I was so happy that I'd never get to see him again but to my greatest surprise he followed me there and now he is following me to my new dad's house.

"You may now kiss the bride." The voice of the priest pulled me out of my thoughts. I watched as my step dad and mom kissed, I turned to my step brother Derick, who was already staring at me with a smirk on his face, he said 'Welcome to family dear sister.' I feel like puking right now.

"Congratulations Mom and Samuel," I congratulated my mom and stepdad.

"Thank you, honey, thank you for everything, sweetheart." Mom hugged me, I know she was grateful to me because I didn't stop her from marrying the man of her dreams after my dad abandoned her for someone else.

"Thank you, Abby." Samuel smiled, and I smiled back at him.

The wedding was finally over, I could go back home and lock myself in my room, and to think mom would be going for her honeymoon with Samuel, I can't be left alone with this jerk.

"Abby, snap out of your thoughts." I heard Samuel say, I blinked back twice.

"I'm sorry." I quickly apologized.

"It's okay honey, I know all this is still new to you. Luckily Derick is handling it well, I know I have to give you time to get acquainted with your new life."

This is one of the reasons why I love Samuel for my mom, he knows how to make me feel relaxed, he never rushes me to do something and he has never forced me to do something I don't like.

"Derick and Abby, your dad and I will be going for our honeymoon, you two will have to live together all by yourself for two weeks, please try to get along, do not kill each other." Although it sounded like a joke, Mom was genuinely worried.

"I'll try, " I mumbled.

"I can't promise, she is annoying." Derick, I couldn't help but roll my eyes at him.

Derick and I waved our parents goodbye as their car drove off, I suddenly missed my mom. "So little sister. ..." The sarcasm in his voice was getting on my nerves. "Let's go home." Home, is it my home?

"There's no need for that, I'll be going to Ruth's, I'll be there until Mom comes back." I don't want to stay with him, I'm going to lose my mind if I do that.

"That can't happen, Your mother put me in charge of you, you can't go to Ruth's unless I say so. So come on little Abigail, get in the car, I'll drive you home."

Before I could argue with him, he had already entered the car, I had no choice but to join him. Why will Mom put him in charge of me anyway? I'm 21, I'm old enough to take care of myself, I don't need him.

The journey back home was silent, I am grateful for that because I don't want to hear his annoying voice.

"There's food in the fridge, I hope you know how to use the microwave. Do not enter my room, stay out of my side." Derick said I went upstairs.

"That was the plan, I don't want to see your annoying face anyways!" I yelled so he'd catch what I said. I went to my room and changed into something free. I wore an oversized shirt, tied my chestnut brown hair into a loose ponytail, and went to the kitchen to make myself something to eat.

I was craving for anything special, I only wanted instant noodles. "Why does she like doing this? She knows I'm short but she keeps putting the box on the top shelf." He groans in frustration. I stood on my tippy toes to reach the box of instant noodles on the top shelf but I still couldn't reach it.

All of a sudden, a shadow hovered over me, and a pack of instant noodles was placed on my head. I turned to face the person who helped and it was none other than Derick, he placed his left hand on the kitchen slab next to me and the other hand on the cupboard, he lowered himself down so he could gaze into my eyes. He said,

"I told you there's food in the fridge, are you doing this on purpose?" He asked, staring down at me like dice.

"What are you talking about? First of all, move." I pushed him, "Secondly, I don't feel like having what's in the fridge. And thirdly, why are you being weird? You think helping me with a pack of instant noodles would make me forgive you for torturing me throughout grade school and college?"

He laughed and scoffed, "Who said I was trying to make you forgive me? I wasn't apologizing little Abby, get out of my sight." He pushed me out of the way, opened the fridge, grabbed a bottle of water, and left.

Derick's POV

I entered my room and shut the door, opened the bottle of water, and gulped down the entire bottle of water. My mind recalled what I had seen earlier. Abby stood on her toes to reach the top shelf, she looked so sexy in what she was wearing. I could see her thigh, the thought of it made my dick twitch.

"This is wrong, she is my sister now. I am supposed to kill every feeling I have for her." I muttered.

I've always had feelings for her, since when we were in grade school but I didn't know how to tell her so I bullied her instead. I followed her to college because I couldn't stay away from her, I knew she'd never agree to go out with me.

Hearing the news about her mom and my dad getting married was like a dagger in my chest. But then I thought it'd be a good thing because if she became my sister, my feelings for her would automatically disappear but they didn't.

I don't know why I can't tell her about my feelings for her, every time I try my words just get stuck in my throat like a lump. I've been stalking her on social media, it's the only place I can look at her without being scared.

I know I should have led her go to Ruth's but that means I'd be able to keep an eye on her. She is weak, clumsy, and very vulnerable. She may act tough, especially with me, but I know that she can't protect herself.

I got a notification from IG, that she had posted the wedding pics on her insta. I zoomed in on her pics to get a clear view of her face, and in the process of doing that, I mistakenly liked her post.

"Why are you stalking me?" A message from her popped.

"Stalking you? You must be delusional. I only liked the post because I am in it. Why did you post a pic with me in it?" I quickly changed the topic hoping she forgets about the previous one.

"It's none of your business, stop being annoying, and don't like any of my posts again." And just like that, our conversation ended.

"What would happen when she starts seeing someone?" This question has been ringing in my head nonstop. I know she is seeing someone but I also know they aren't official yet, what'd happen when they became official?

Chapter 2 She is the person I have been crushing on

Abigail's POV

It's been three days, and Derick and I rarely see each other, we mostly meet on three occasions and that is during breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and I like that way. Here I am making lunch for the both of us. Mom said we should put our differences aside since we are now siblings but it's hard to do that when he is constantly getting on my nerves.

"Ouch!"

"What is wrong?" I heard Derick's voice, when did he get here?

"The knife, it...." Before I could finish my statement, he had already wrapped his hand around my wounded finger and pulled me to the sink. He carefully washed the wound, took the first aid kit Mum always left in the kitchen, and dressed my wound.

"Why are you always clumsy?" He asked.

"Why are you being nice to me? As far as I know, you hate me." I searched his eyes looking for answers but found none, he is good at concealing his emotions.

"Be careful next time not to cut your finger, you are such a pain in the ass." He frowned at me.

"Why am I being reprimanded? I was only trying to make lunch for us, I mean you should be grateful for that because you and I know that you don't deserve any kindness from me." I pulled my hand from his and stood up,

"You can continue with the cooking, I'm going to Ruth's." I ran to my room. Ruth is my best friend and she is someone I can share everything with. I quickly took a bath and changed into something simple, a mini skirt and a body-hugging top.

"Where are you going to dress like that? That skirt is too short, go and change." Derick sounded stern.

"What is your deal, Derick? Why are you trying to butt in in everything I do? Who are you to tell me what to wear? You are not my father, you can't control me." I'm sick and tired of his behavior, he is acting like some kind of jealous boyfriend or something.

"I am in charge and I say you should go and change."

"And if I don't? What are you going to do? Ground me?" I laughed and left. I took a taxi to Ruth's.

"You look frustrated," Ruth said when she saw me.

"Well yeah, I am." I plumped down on her sofa.

"What is wrong? Derick again?" Ruth asked.

"Yes, he keeps butting into everything I do, he acts like my dad. Can you imagine he told me to go change? Like wtf?" I am so frustrated I feel like pulling my hair.

"You know Abby, if I didn't know better I'd say he likes you."

I looked at Ruth as if she was running mad or something, "first of all, eww. How can you say that? Derick can never have feelings for me. Have you forgotten how it was back then? And now he is my brother, I'd be so weird. Thinking of it right now gives me the creeps." I shuttered just at the thought of it.

"I am just saying but I know it's not possible. Let's forget about it, how was the wedding? I'm sorry I missed it." She pouted.

"The wedding was okay, mom looked really happy and I'm happy for her. Uncle Samuel is a good man and I know he'll take good care of Mom. I understand that you couldn't make it, your boss is such a dickhead."

"Speaking of my boss, there's an opening in the company where I work, you should apply, we get to work together if you do. Please best, come and apply, I need you there, work is no fun without you by my side."

"I am willing to do anything as long as it keeps me away from Derick so sure, I'll pass the company on Monday to drop my application."

Ruth squeaked, she kissed my cheeks and hugged me. I spent the entire day at Ruth's, it was fun. By the time I got him, it was already time for dinner, Derick was sitting in the living room watching TV.

"Abby, can we talk?" His voice was strangely soft, it felt like a trap.

"What do you want?"

"Look, I know I've been a thorn in your flesh but can we put that aside? We are siblings now and we shouldn't fight, instead of fighting we should look out for each other."

I don't know if I heard him correctly, is he asking for a truce? "I don't understand," I voiced out.

"I'm saying that we should act like siblings and not like enemies. Let me be your big brother. Our parents are married, we can't go around fighting each other, what will people say? He asked.

"Let me think about it."

Should I forgive him? Is he being sincere or is this some sort of trick? These questions were ringing in my head nonstop. "Have you had dinner?" I asked him, I don't know why I asked him, it's not like I care about him.

He smiled and said, "I have." He looks handsome when he smiles but I can't tell him that, he might get the wrong idea. "Okay then, good night."

While going up to my room, I was thinking about what he said. Should I forgive him? It'd make Mom happy if she heard that we are no longer mutual enemies. I decided to let go, for my mom's sake because she deserves to be happy.

I finally entered my room, I pulled out my phone and texted him 'I'm only forgiving you because I want my mom to be happy. She won't be happy if we two continue to fight all the time."

I threw my phone aside and jumped on my bed, it was calling my name and I couldn't resist its calls. Sleep came as fast as lightning.

Derick's POV

My heart jumped for joy when I saw her message. I don't know where I gathered the courage to talk to her nicely but I am happy I did. I've been meaning to end the feud for a long time now but I just didn't know how.

Earlier when she went out with that short skirt, I felt so angry and hurt, I was scared that someone might just take her away from me.

Chapter 3 Little Abby

Derick's POV

The sound of my alarm woke me up from sleep, I wished it didn't though because I was having a beautiful dream, one that involved Abby. I sighed and jumped down from bed, I quickly changed into my jogging pants, a sweatshirt, and shoes and went out. I jogged down the streets, I passed a few people who were jogging just like me. After jogging for thirty minutes, I decided to take a break.

I pulled out my bottle of water and then pulled out my phone. I was surfing through the internet while drinking my water. I got a notification that Abby posted an IG story, and without wasting time I quickly tapped on the notification.

She had posted a black image with the caption, 'he wasn't the right one.' I didn't know if I should be happy that she wasn't seeing anyone anymore or if I should be sad that she was probably heartbroken and hurt.

"Better luck next time, who knows the right one for you is probably around you but you just can't see it yet," I replied to her story and quickly shut my phone, kept my bottle of water, and decided to continue.

I was jogging back home. "You are back, how was today's jogging?" Abby asked, she flashed me a really cute smile, and the smile resetted my brain.

"I...my..it was..." I couldn't think properly.

"You must be really tired, you can't even talk properly. Let me make breakfast and oh, less I forgot, I have a job interview today at ten." She went into the kitchen and said.

What does she mean by a job? Does that mean that I won't be able to see her often? But it's a good thing, this might kill the feeling I have for her.

I went into the kitchen, opened the fridge, and pulled out a bottle of cold water, while I gulped it down, I could feel her eyes on me, watching my every move. Her gaze on me stirred up something very dangerous.

"You like what you see? Take a picture, it'll last forever." I smirked.

She quickly looked away clearing her throat, I leaned on her back, since she is short I had to bend to reach her ears. "You don't have to look at me discreetly." He stood up and left, I heard her coughing hard in the kitchen, and I chuckled and ran upstairs.

"The game I'm playing is dangerous and I'm scared that I might get burned but I can't help it, she makes things hard." I entered the bathroom and stripped myself naked, I entered the shower and let the cold water cascade down my body.

I like a cold bath after jogging, it helps. After taking a proper bath, I changed into something comfy and went downstairs, she was already setting the table.

"Do you need help little Abby?" She glared at me because of the name but I didn't mind, it's cute. She sat down and filled her plates with pancakes, she poured syrup on them.

"Are you going to join me or you're just going to stand there and watch me?" She asked.

"I mean I don't mind that." I know what I was doing was dangerous but I'm still doing it.

"You are acting weird, are you trying to mess with my head or something?" She squinted her eyes while talking, looking like a police detective trying to crack a case.

I pulled a seat and sat down, she served me. Her actions made me smile, I wish I had apologized to her sooner, she is a really sweet girl.

Breakfast went by fast, before I knew it she was standing on the porch ready to go for her interview. "Little Abby, remember you can do this, have faith in yourself, and don't let the interviewer intimate you."

She looked at me with a smile on her face, "If you put your ugly face aside, you are a really sweet person. Thank you for the encouraging words and pleasure jerkface, stop calling me little Abby." She pouted, a side of her I'd never seen before.

I bend down to her height, my face almost touching hers, "I'm sorry but I can't do that little Abby." I kissed her forehead, I couldn't help it. "You should go, we don't want to be late. Max will take you there." Max is one of our drivers.

"Okay." She whispered and left,

I don't know if I saw correctly but the pink on her cheeks, was she blushing? Did I make her blush? I watched the driver drive out of the house. I went back in and went straight to my room.

You must be wondering why I'm always at home. Well, I'll stay at work next week. Unlike Abby who has to look for a job, I am the CEO of Dad's company. Abby refused to work there, she said she wanted to work somewhere where she wouldn't be given privileges.

Abby's POV

While Max was driving me to my destination, my mind played back to what happened earlier. I don't know why I was staring at Derick while he was drinking that bottle of water but he looked so sexy while he was drinking. And when he whispered in my ears, I felt my knees go weak like they were made of jelly.

I don't know if it's just my imagination but Derick has been acting strange, 'does he have feelings for me like Ruth thought? Nah, that's absurd, he is a brother. He can't possibly have feelings for me, he'd be a sicko if that were to be true."

"We are here-"

"Huh?" I looked out of the window, oh shit, I forgot I was going for an interview. "Thank you, Max, I'll call you when I'm done. Wish me luck."

I stood in front of the tall building, I took in a deep breath before moving forward, I didn't get to go far before pumping into a glass door. Typical me, I'm such a clutz. My name should be Abigail Clumsy Jones. I looked around and luckily nobody saw me, I dusted the invisible speck of dust on my dress and went in.

"Good morning," I smiled at the lady at the front desk, and she smiled back.

"Good morning, how can I help you?" She asked politely, her smile not leaving her face.

"I'm here for the job interview," I answered.

"Oh okay, take the elevator to the third floor."

"Thank you." She nodded.

I took the elevator to the third floor and as she said, I saw a bunch of people waiting, they were probably here for the job interview. 'Do I even stand a chance?' I felt like going back home but I'm already, I should give it a try, 'it shouldn't be that hard right?'
