"Mrs. Roberts, are you serious about that? Do you really want to divorce Mr. Roberts?"
Alex asked, looking at the divorce agreement in front of him with astonishment.
Scarlett nodded and said gently, "Yes, Mr. Brown. I have made up my mind. Please help me give this agreement to..."
She paused and thought for a while. Suddenly, she remembered that she had never seen her nominal husband since they got married. She even forgot his name. So she smiled and continued, "To your boss."
Alex wanted to say something more. But when he saw the gentle and firm look in Scarlett's eyes, he shut his mouth and took the divorce agreement from her.
He couldn't help feeling a little sad.
But he could only sigh and say, "Mrs. Roberts, please take care of yourself."
Scarlett nodded gently and dragged her suitcase out of the villa. As soon as she walked out the door, she felt unprecedentedly relaxed and at ease.
Perhaps divorce was really the best choice.
From now on, she would start anew. She would face a new life.
The sun was setting down, and the sky turned orange. But gradually, it got darker and darker. As night fell, the Roberts Group building started to light up, making it look bright.
The door of the conference room on the top floor opened, and Elias walked out with a solemn face. He had just finished the meeting.
Jude followed closely and began to enumerate his schedule.
"Mr. Roberts, you have a video conference in half an hour. Then, Mr. Wright has prepared a welcome party for you..."
"Cancel it," Elias interrupted in a low voice before Jude could finish his words.
Jude didn't say anything more. He just nodded and said, "Okay." After a while, he said tentatively, "Mr. Roberts, there is one more thing..."
Elias stopped in his tracks, turned around, and looked at Jude. He asked in a cold and deep voice, "When have you become so hesitant when you speak?"
Jude quickly said, "Alex called and said Mrs. Roberts had already signed the divorce agreement. She left it to Alex."
After saying this, he lowered his head.
He was hesitant just now because he knew that mentioning Scarlett's name would irritate Elias.
Sure enough, the atmosphere around them froze for a moment. When Jude thought Elias would not say anything, he suddenly heard a sneer.
After working for Elias for a long time, Jude already knew Elias very well. He knew that Elias only sneered when he was in a bad mood. And it rarely happened.
Upon realizing this, Jude broke out in a cold sweat.
If Elias was unhappy, he would suffer.
Elias looked at him emotionlessly and said, "Send the divorce agreement to me."
"Okay, Mr. Roberts."
After a while, Elias got the divorce agreement. He didn't read it at all. Instead, he turned to the last page for his signature.
Then Scarlett's signature came into view.
Elias looked at it, squinting his eyes. He felt a little disdainful.
He knew very well that Scarlett married him for money. But now, she suddenly wanted to divorce him. What was she planning to do?
A little curious, he looked through the pages casually. Then his eyes fell on one of the terms in the agreement.
It was stated there that Scarlett wouldn't accept any alimony. And the money she borrowed from the Roberts family a year ago had been paid off with interest.
Elias was a little surprised on this part. He didn't expect Scarlett to pay off the money.
Somehow, he couldn't help wondering if he had misunderstood Scarlett. Was she actually not a woman greedy for money?
Elias was still lost in thought when his phone suddenly rang. He looked at the screen and found it was his grandmother, Ella, calling.
He answered it at once.
Ella's anxious voice immediately came through from the other end of the line. "Elias, what is going on? I will never allow you to divorce Scarlett. Never!"
Elias squinted and looked at the wall. He said meaningfully, "Grandma, you are really well-informed."
He had just received the divorce agreement, but his grandmother immediately called to stop him from divorcing Scarlett. He couldn't help thinking. Was it just a coincidence or Scarlett's trick?
She was really scheming.
Ella was silent for a few seconds. Then she said seriously, "No matter what, you can't divorce Scarlett. I won't let it happen. Elias, Scarlett is a good woman. Why don't you cherish her?"
Elias put the agreement on the table and said, "Grandma, it was she who wanted to divorce me."
However, Ella still blamed him. She shouted, "What do you expect? In one year that you were married, you always ignored her. She had put up with you. But no matter how long the patience of a woman is, she will give up if her husband is always cold to her."
Elias rubbed his aching temples helplessly. He didn't understand why Ella liked Scarlett so much. She even insisted that he married Scarlett. Now Scarlett wanted to divorce him, and she still wouldn't allow it.
He sighed and asked, "Grandma, why do you always insist that we stay together? Why don't you even ask me if I like her or not?"
Ella said, "Because Scarlett is a good woman. I can assure you. It's just that you haven't gotten along yet. But when you know what kind of a person she is, you will definitely like her."
Elias didn't say anything. He only sneered at Ella's words.
Ella noticed that Elias was still unwilling. But she didn't intend to give up. She continued to persuade him. "Elias, I beg you one last time. Get along with Scarlett and cultivate your relationship with her. I'm sure you'll change your opinion of her."
"Grandma, are you serious? You want me to cultivate a relationship with that kind of woman?"
As he spoke, Elias sounded very disgusted.
But Ella still insisted, "Three months! Give it three months. Keep your marriage and stay with Scarlett for three months. If it still doesn't work after that, you are free to divorce her. I will never interfere. How about that?"
Elias sighed inwardly. Of course, he didn't have the heart to refuse Ella. He was silent for a while, thinking. Then he said, "Okay, Grandma, I can agree to your request. But I have to let you know in advance that I will never like a greedy woman. Even if you give me three years, I won't change my mind, let alone three months."
Ella countered, "Who are you talking about? Scarlett is not that kind of woman. You will see."
Elias didn't want to waste his time arguing with Ella about Scarlett's character. So he said, "That's it, Grandma. I still have some work to do. Bye."
He put down his phone and glanced at the divorce agreement on the table. A gloom flashed in his eyes.
Scarlett was obviously using the trick of playing hard to get. Did she really think it was fun?
A year ago, she did everything to marry into the Roberts family for money. Now, she deliberately delayed the divorce for three months. Did she think she could change his mind in this way?
Unfortunately, he had made the decision, and no one could change it. Not even Ella.
The next day, Scarlett woke up early and prepared to leave.
She followed the address on her phone and arrived at a villa with a romantic and solemn atmosphere.
Even the carvings on the gate had clear texture and exquisite workmanship.
When Scarlett looked around, she found that this villa was even more luxurious and magnificent than the one she used to live in.
She was here to apply for a job as a tutor. It was Ella who introduced this opportunity to her.
Ella knew that Scarlett was a strong, independent woman and that she didn't want to owe the Roberts family money. So this year, Ella had introduced many part-time jobs to her.
With Scarlett's outstanding ability, she had paid her debt in just a year.
The salary for this part-time tutoring job was much higher than any of her previous jobs. Scarlett still needed money, so she had no reason to refuse this job.
Scarlett walked closer to the gate. Suppressing the nervousness in her heart, she raised her hand and rang the doorbell.
She stood in front of the gate for a while. Soon, a woman in a servant's uniform came to open it.
Scarlett greeted the woman politely. "Hello, good morning. I'm here to apply as a tutor."
Susan was a little stunned when she saw Scarlett. Although she didn't want to, she must admit that she was amazed by the beauty of the young woman standing outside the gate.
Scarlett had delicate facial features, especially her eyebrows and eyes. They were really beautiful.
Then she sneered inwardly. She disdained Scarlett very much. But she didn't worry that much. She believed Scarlett would be unable to do the job. Scarlett wouldn't be a threat to her.
At the thought of this, Susan raised her chin at Scarlett and said, "Come in."
She then turned around, and Scarlett followed behind her.
While walking in front, Susan deliberately showed an arrogant attitude. She turned to Scarlett and warned, "I'm telling you, don't bother fantasizing about working here. This month, you are already the seventh tutor who came to apply for this job."
As she spoke, Susan's tone was full of complacency. "Zayne doesn't listen to anyone. He only obeys me." She turned around and glanced at Scarlett with a hint of regret in her eyes. "So, your effort in coming here is in vain."
Susan thought that, like the previous applicants, she would see a timid or flattering face.
She didn't expect Scarlett to be different. It seemed Scarlett didn't take her words seriously at all. Scarlett just looked around calmly.
Anger filled Susan's heart. She snorted slightly, thinking that Scarlett was just a country bumpkin. No wonder Scarlett had been looking around so seriously.
She took Scarlett to the living room through the front yard.
At this moment, her indifferent attitude vanished. With a gentle look on her face, she called out softly, "Zayne..."
Then, a little boy with fluffy golden hair came out from behind the sofa. He ran to Susan, held her hand tightly, and looked at Scarlett warily.
Zayne's reaction seemed to please Susan. The smile on her face became even more complacent.
She bent down, rubbed Zayne's head, and said softly, "Zayne, be a good boy, okay? This is your new teacher. Say hello to her."
Scarlett stood at the side quietly and observed Zayne. His brows furrowed, and he seemed very resistant to Susan's words. He immediately stepped back and hid behind Susan, looking frightened.
Before Scarlett came here, she did her research. She found that Zayne was autistic. He was already three years old, but he couldn't speak yet. Therefore, what Susan told her earlier was true. She was indeed the seventh tutor this month.
Susan's eyes narrowed slightly. She turned to Scarlett and said perfunctorily, "I'm really sorry. If Zayne keeps ignoring you like this, I'm afraid you won't be able to get this job. After all, if you want to be his tutor, you should have the ability to communicate with him."
Scarlett saw the sarcasm in Susan's eyes. She was silent for a while. Then she smiled gently and said, "I understand."
Susan felt a little embarrassed when she saw Scarlett's smile. But she just ignored Scarlett. Anyway, Scarlett would most likely be asked to leave like the previous applicants.
She glanced at Scarlett scornfully, and then looked away. "Please make yourself comfortable here. I have to go to the kitchen to prepare Zayne's lunch now."
Scarlett nodded slightly. When Susan left, she watched Susan's receding back for a while. Zayne followed Susan. But after a few steps, he slipped into a corner.
When Scarlett saw him huddle in a corner in a daze, she did not approach him rashly. She feared she would scare him even more. She looked away, and her eyes fell on the wall not far away with a thoughtful expression.
Soon, the corners of her mouth curved up slightly. An idea suddenly occurred to her. She now had a solution to her problem.
Susan was busy in the kitchen, but she was still full of energy. She was even humming a song while cooking.
Suddenly, a soft voice sounded behind her. "Excuse me..."
Susan was slightly startled. She turned around and saw Scarlett standing at the door. Looking at Scarlett with dissatisfaction, she frowned and asked, "What's the matter?"
Scarlett pointed at the backyard and said in a low voice, "Can I use those painting materials on the table?"
Susan's frown deepened even more. She snapped, "Those are Zayne's stuff."
But Scarlett didn't mind Susan's indifference. She still said gently, "I will clean them up after I use them."
Susan looked at her for a while and said, "I'm afraid you don't know, but Zayne uses expensive and high-end materials. They are of great value. And with his character, I guess he won't want to use them if he knows you've touched them."
Scarlett pursed her red lips. She didn't say anything more.
When Susan saw that Scarlett didn't refute her, she softened a bit. She felt she could be a little more generous. Anyway, Scarlett was leaving soon. So, she turned around and continued her cooking while saying, "You can use them. If Zayne doesn't want to use them anymore, I will just throw them away."
Scarlett nodded with a smile. "Thank you."
She walked to the backyard and prepared all the materials and tools she needed. Then she placed the easel in a conspicuous spot in the garden.
Scarlett stood behind the easel and looked in the direction of the living room. She slightly bent down and adjusted the angle to make sure that the person in the living room could see the painting paper.
After setting everything up, she pulled a chair and sat down. Then she quickly filled the palette with the paint colors she needed.
When Scarlett came in just now, she saw many paintings on the walls of the villa.
Judging from the colors and the brushwork used in the paintings, she could say that those were all painted by a child.
She guessed that those paintings were painted by Zayne.
Painting must be his passion.
Scarlett held the paintbrush and drew freely.
She spread bright colors on the canvas, and the general outline of the garden gradually appeared.
Scarlett was so absorbed in painting that she didn't notice that Zayne was already approaching her. He was attracted by what she was painting.
After a while, her hand stopped moving. She held her chin with her other hand and stared at the painting in front of her. She felt something was missing.
Suddenly, a paintbrush reached out from the edge of the canvas and rubbed diagonally downward on the horizon, adding a shaft of golden sunlight.
When Scarlett turned her head, she was surprised to see Zayne. He had fluffy golden hair, making him look even cuter. But he looked very serious while holding the paintbrush in his hand.
Zayne noticed that Scarlett was looking at him, and he became a little timid. He subconsciously wanted to step back.
Scarlett chuckled softly and praised. "You are so good at painting. Thank you for helping me add the sunlight."
Zayne's eyes twinkled slightly and the corners of his mouth curved into a smile.
Scarlett wanted to make him feel comfortable with her, so she looked at him and asked, "Can you tell me how to get the color of the sunlight?"
Zayne blinked a few times. Then he lowered his head, pointed at the white and yellow colors on the palette, and at a small puddle of water.
Scarlett smiled at him. "Can you help me adjust the color?"
Zayne dipped the paintbrush in the bucket to rinse it. Then he stained it with yellow and white colors, mixed them in the water, and stirred it gently.
Then he looked at Scarlett with shining eyes.
Scarlett immediately understood what he meant. She nodded and said, "I see. I get it."
Zayne raised his hand again. This time, he drew a shaft of sunlight in the sky on the other side of the canvas.
At this moment, a black Rolls-Royce stopped outside the villa. Then, a slender figure got out slowly.
When Susan heard the sound of the engine, she rushed to the gate. And seeing the man walking not far away made her heartbeat go abnormally fast. It was as if her heart was about to jump out of her chest. Her face unconsciously flushed.
Susan walked over shyly and stopped beside Elias. She was close enough to smell the unique cold scent of his body.
She was obsessed with his scent, but she didn't forget to keep her mind clear. She said softly, "Mr. Roberts, I didn't expect you to come today. Are you going to have lunch here? Or... are you going to stay overnight?"
Elias remained silent. It was as if he didn't hear any words she said. Instead, he looked at Scarlett and Zayne in the backyard with surprise on his face.
Zayne seldom got close to outsiders and was very aloof. He didn't expect that the woman who applied as a tutor would immediately get along so well with Zayne.
Elias's eyes slowly fell on Scarlett. Her outfit was very simple but neat and tidy. Her hair, tied in a ponytail, fluttered with the wind. The sunlight fell on her face, making her smile even brighter.
He couldn't help walking forward. When he already stood in front of the canvas, Scarlett raised her head and looked at him in confusion.
Elias asked in an almost gentle voice, "What is your name?"
