Chapter 1
Aliza's Point of View
"Come on, Kayla. We have to get out of here. We can't let them catch us," I told my best friend as we ran through the woods. Suddenly, she fell to the ground.
"Kayla," I said. I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her body to help her walk. I could hear the others getting closer.
"You have to leave me, Aliza," Kayla said
"No, I am not going to leave you, Kayla," I replied
"You have to before they get to us. You know if they catch us, they will kill us both," Kayla said. I had to get her out of there. I had lost too many people already. I couldn't lose her, too.
"I am not leaving you," I replied as I helped her up again.
"There you are. Where do you think you are going?" I looked up to see my mate, Cain, the guy who betrayed me, standing there.
"Stay away from me, Cain," I said
"I'm afraid I can't do that," Cain said. Cain took a step closer to me, and I took a step back.
"You are coming back with me," Cain said as he grabbed onto me. I kicked him where the sun didn't shine, causing him to growl at me.
"You bitch," Cain growled, and he punched me in the face causing me to fall to the ground. "I am going to make you pay for that," Cain said
"Enough." I looked up and saw the person who betrayed me the most, my stepmother Catherine, smiling at me.
"You didn't think it would be that easy to get away from me."
"Stay away from me, Catherine," I growled. I tried to shift into my wolf, but I couldn't. Catherine came toward me, but Kayla shocked me by jumping on her.
"Run, Aliza," Kayla said. I watched in horror as Cain pulled Kayla off of my stepmother, and my stepmother used her extended claws to slit Kayla's throat. I stood there shocked as I looked at my best friend's lifeless body.
I looked up to see Catherine and Cain looking at me, and I started running, but I didn't get far. Cain caught up to me and grabbed me.
"Let me go. I am your mate," I said, and he laughed
"I never wanted a weak girl like you as my mate. I, Cain Smith, reject you as my mate," Cain said. I could feel a little pain but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be from being rejected by my mate but Cain fell on the ground in pain. I turned to run, but two men grabbed onto my arms and held me tightly. Catherine walked over to me with an evil smile on her face.
"Why," I asked, needing to know why she would betray me the way she did. "Why would you do this to me, to my father? How could you betray us like this? My father is your mate, and you did this. You acted like you loved me, like I was your daughter, but you lied. Why?" I asked, and she laughed.
"You are dumb, just like your father was. I never loved you. I did all of this to get what I wanted. I never cared about you or your father. You two were just too stupid to notice how much I hated you both," Catherine said
"You are evil. How could you say you never cared about my father? He is your destined mate," I said, and she laughed.
"No, he isn't," Catherine said, which shocked me. Her claws started to extend, and she pushed them through my chest and pulled out my heart. I fell to the ground, and all I saw was blackness.
I felt like I was floating. I opened my eyes and was shocked at what I saw. I was seeing my life flash before my eyes. I saw my mom in the hospital. She was holding me as a newborn baby. I saw myself as a toddler playing in my room. I saw my first day of school. I was crying because I didn't want my mom to leave me there. I was seeing every moment of my life.
I saw the first time I shifted on my eighteenth birthday and how scared I was. I saw myself arguing with my mom after she told me the truth about my father and how he was a werewolf. I saw the day we moved to my dad's pack, the White River Pack. Every memory just kept coming until the memory of my stepmother, Catherine, ripped my heart out of my chest. Then, all I could see was darkness.
Suddenly, I was in a rose garden. A gorgeous woman with long golden hair and purple eyes was sitting on a bench. "Hello, my child," The woman said
"Who are you?" I asked
"I am Selene," The lady said, shocking me.
"You are the moon goddess," I said, and she nodded. "Am I dead?" I asked
"No, My child. You are in the in-between," Selene said
"What is the in-between?" I asked, and she gestured for me to sit beside her. I walked over to the bench and sat.
"You are in between life and death," Selene said and I frowned. "I feel terrible about what happened to you. Honestly, stuff like this happens too much. I am going to give you a choice, Aliza," Selene said
"A choice," I asked confused.
"Yes, you were meant for great things, but I am going to let you choose what you want to do. You can be reborn as someone else. You will be born as a baby and live a great life. You won't remember the life you had before. I will also promise you that no one will ever hurt you. Your life will be wonderful. Or, I can send you back as yourself. You will be sent back to a time in your past and will have a chance to change your future. You will have a chance to save your family and friends, but I will warn you that in order to do that, you will have to move into your father's Pack. You cannot run away. I will not stop you from running away but know that if you do, your stepmother will win and destroy your father and his Pack. The choice is up to you," Selene said. I thought about it for a while, trying to figure out what I really wanted. I could choose to get a new life, but I would forget everyone, which meant I would forget the people I loved, like my mom. I could go back as I was and not move into the White River Pack, but Catherine would win. I couldn't let that happen, so I knew what my decision was going to be.
"I will go back as myself," I said, and Selene smiled.
"I knew you would make the right choice," Selene said
"But how am I going to save everyone? Catherine is working with a lot of strong people. My mate is on her side," I said
"You are stronger than you know, Aliza. I already told you that you were born to do great things. It is your destiny to make things better for all supernatural beings," Selene said
"How," I asked
"I am sorry, but I can't tell you. You will have to figure that out on your own, but I am going to help you," Selene said and she touched my shoulder, making me feel a lot of energy for a moment.
"What was that?" I asked
"I have awakened some of your powers. They will help you when you return," Selene replied
"Powers," I said, shocked. I had never had any powers.
"You are very special, Aliza," Selene said with a smile. "It is time for you to go back. Remember, you are meant for great things," I heard Selene say, and then all I saw was darkness.
I woke up and saw that I was in a car. I looked over and was so happy to see my mom driving while I was sitting in the passenger seat.
"Mom, you're alive."
Chapter 2
Aliza's Point of View
I woke up and saw that I was in a car. I looked over and was so happy to see my mom driving while I was sitting in the passenger seat.
"Mom, you're alive," I said happily.
"Of course, I am alive, sweetheart. Are you okay?" My mom asked, concerned.
"Yeah, I just had a bad dream," I replied. I couldn't help the tears that were coming to my eyes. My mom was killed over a month ago by rogues. I know now that Catherine hired the rogues to kill my mom.
"Look, Sweetheart, I know you're upset because I lied to you about your father, but I wasn't trying to. I thought I was doing what was best for you. I was trying to protect you. Now I know I was wrong, and I am sorry," My mom said
I shifted into a werewolf for the first time on my eighteenth birthday. I was so scared and confused when it happened. I had no idea werewolves existed. I woke up in the woods naked and afraid. I went home and told my mom what happened. That was when she told me the truth about who my father really was.
I was so upset with her because she had told me that my father had died in a car crash when I was younger. I couldn't believe she had lied to me. After we made it to my father's Pack, I was still upset with her. I even moved into the packhouse when Catherine asked me to. I should have known she was up to no good. She wanted me to stay mad at my mom. She even told me that she would never have lied to me if she were my real mom. I was so stupid. I should have known Catherine wanted me to stay mad at my mom, and I fell for her trap.
After my mom was killed, I wished I could go back and change the way I had been treating her. I wouldn't even talk to her because I was so upset she lied to me about my father. Because of my actions, I missed so much time with her. I wanted to apologize to her, and now I could.
I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her tightly. My actions caused her to lose control of the car for a moment, and she swerved into the other lane.
"Aliza," My mom said worriedly, and a car honked at us. She pulled over to the side of the road and put the car in park. "Aliza, what is wrong with you? You could have gotten us killed," My mom said. I couldn't stop the tears that were coming from my eyes, and I hugged her again.
"Mom, I am so sorry about how I have been treating you. I know you were only doing what was best for me. I am so lucky to have a mom like you. I love you so much," I cried.
"Oh, sweetheart. I love you, too. I am so happy you are talking to me again," My mom said as she hugged me back. "We should get back on the road. We only have about thirty minutes to go before we get to your father's Pack," My mom said.
That was when I realized Selene had sent me back to the day we moved to my father's Pack. This was the day I met my father and Catherine. The day I met my mate. The day my life changed was the worst.
***************
"Are you sure you are okay, Sweetheart?" My mom asked worriedly as she drove.
"Yeah, I am fine. Can we stop somewhere and get something to eat? I am hungry," I said. I wasn't really hungry. In fact, my stomach was in knots.
"Sure," My mom said.
"If there is something wrong, you can tell me. Are you nervous about moving into your father's Pack?" My mom asked. We ended up stopping at a buffet. I needed to think about what I should do. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to let my mom move us to a place where we were betrayed and killed. I was almost sure we shouldn't move there. Selene told me I could change the past and save everyone, but what if I failed? Selene said I was stronger than I knew, but what if she was wrong? I would be leading my mom and me to our deaths.
"If this is too much for you, we don't have to move there, Aliza. I will call your father and tell him you changed your mind. It is your decision," My mom said. That didn't sound like a bad idea. Selene did say I could run, and she wouldn't stop me. The problem with that was my dad, Kayla, and most of the Pack would die. I couldn't let that happen. I knew I needed to be strong and believe in what Selene had told me. She was the Moon Goddess.
"No, mom. I am fine; I'm just a little nervous. I am sure I will be okay," I said, and she smiled.
"You sure?" Mom asked
"Yeah," I replied with a smile.
"Just know that I am here for you," Mom said.
"I know."
Aliza's Point of View
"You have been silent for a while now, Sweetheart. Is there anything you would like to talk about?" My mom asked me while she drove the car
Once we were finished eating, we got back into the car and made our way to the White River Pack. I was a nervous wreck the entire drive to the White River Pack. There were many times that I almost told my mom that I didn't want to move there and that we should go somewhere else far away, but I knew that if I did that Catherine would win, and I couldn't let that happen.
"I am fine, Mom. I am just a little nervous," I lied.
"I understand why you are nervous, Sweetheart, but know I am here with you. I will always have your back," My mom said
"I know that, Mom. I am so sorry I have been such a brat to you. You didn't deserve my attitude. I know you were doing what was best for me. You always have, and I want you to know that I love you so much, Mom. Thanks for everything," I said
"You don't have to thank me, Sweetheart. I am your mother, and that is what I am supposed to do. I love you, too. More than anything in the world," My mom replied, and I smiled. "I have to admit I am happy you are not upset with me anymore. I missed talking to you," My mom said
"I missed talking to you too," I replied. About twenty-five minutes later, I saw the golden gate that White River Pack, written in giant letters, let me know that we were about to enter my dad's pack. Two men who were guarding the Pack Gate walked up to us. "Hello, may I help you ms?" one of the men asked
"Hello, my name is Tina Bailey, and this is my daughter, Aliza. We are here to see Michael," My mom said
"Oh, yes, of course. Alpha Michael has been expecting you," The man and he lifted his hand. The gate started opening. "follow that car. It will lead you to the packhouse."
"Okay, thank you," my mom said, and we followed the warrior's car to the packhouse.
I looked out of the window at all the pack members happily walking down the street. Some were walking with their families, while others were walking with their friends. We passed White River Elementary and I could see kids playing with outside on the playground. None of them knew the danger they were in. It was crazy that in eight months most of these people would be dead if I didn't figure out how to defeat Catherine and the small amount of traitors that were in this pack.
Mom pulled up to the packhouse and parked the car. "Are you ready to meet your father?" My mom asked
"Yeah," I replied nervously and we got out of the car and headed to the packhouse.
The front door opened before we made it to the front step just like it did in the past and I saw Ms. Davis standing there with a smile on her face. Ms. Davis was an older lady and the head housekeeper at the pack. She did everything, even the things Catherine was supposed to do as Luna. I always knew Ms. Davis didn't like Catherine and neither did my dad's sister Aunt Vicky . She was old enough to be my grandmother. She was my father nanny when he was growing up. My grandmother died in a rogue attack and my grandfather became evil. He wasn't a good alpha or father to my dad or Aunt Vicky. He would mistreat my dad, Aunt, and the pack. When my dad was sixteen he challenged my grandfather to take over the pack and won. My dad didn't have the heart to kill my grandfather so he kicked him out of the pack and no one has heard from him since then.
Seeing Ms. Davis made me think about the last time I had seen her. She had been killed by one of the traitors in the Pack. They had beheaded her because she wouldn't bow to Catherine after she had killed my father.
"Hello," Ms. Davis said
"Hello, Ms. Da... I mean mam," I replied causing my mom and Ms Davis to look at me in confusion.
"My name is Ms. Davis and I am the head housekeeper in the Packhouse. You must be Ms. Bailey and Aliza," Ms Davis said.
"Please call me Tina," My mom said with a smile, and Ms. Davis returned her smile.
"Your father has been so excited that he is finally going to meet you. You look just like him. He wanted to meet you here, but your brother and he got stuck in a meeting. They should be finished soon," Ms. Davis said as we followed her to the elevator. She pressed the button for the ninth floor, which was my father's floor. "You can have a seat here. I have to go check on something, but I will be back in a few," Ms Davis said
"Thank you, Ms. Davis," My mom said, and Ms Davis left.
"This is very nice," My mom said, looking around the living room
"Yeah, it is," I replied.
I heard the elevator ding, and my heart started beating fast. I looked over and saw my father, brother, and the woman who had destroyed everything, my stepmother Catherine, walking into the family room.
