She chased them away with bricks, but one missed and shattered the window of Owen's Maserati. Sarah begged him for mercy, so he offered her to work for him to pay for the damage. She made a deal, but she also fell into his trap. What Sarah owed Owen was not money, but love, and he would risk everything so she could pay him forever.

Chapter 1 A Tough Day

"Lenore, I'm back!" Sarah Sheng announced as she opened the door and walked into the living room. Putting on her slippers, she heard strange noises coming from the bedroom. Was there a thief in the house?

Picking up the broom behind the door, she tiptoed toward the bedroom and pressed her ear against the door.

"Hale, I love you!"

Upon hearing that, her body stiffened and the blood drained from her face.

Peeking in through the crack, she saw two naked bodies lying on the bed.

This scene shocked her to her core.

She stared at the adulterous twosome miserably. She could hardly believe what she was seeing.

She pushed the door open with great force and it fell open with a loud bang. The two jumped and froze. Hale Chen was so startled that he fell off Lenore Mo.

"Sarah, why are you back so early? Aren't you supposed to be out looking for a job?" Hale Chen asked with a mix of shock and surprise.

Meanwhile, Lenore Mo scrambled to cover her body with the quilt.

This intimate scene made Sarah Sheng furious and hurt. Tears were threatening to spill out of her eyes, but she tried hard to stop them from running down.

Her face was pale and her fingertips were cold. Clenching her fists, she said coldly, "You're messing around behind my back! And now are you annoyed with me for coming back too early? Lenore Mo, Hale Chen, you both are so shameless! Why did you do this behind my back? And how long has this been going on? You've made a fool out of me! How long were you going to hide it from me?"

"No! It's not that. Sarah, listen to me. I still love you," Hale Chen explained, hurriedly covering his hard member with a pillow.

With a bitter smile, Sarah Sheng spun around and said resolutely, "There's no need to explain. We're done! Goodbye!"

Her face was full of despair, but she was an incomparably strong woman as she held her head high in the face of such a heart-wrenching betrayal.

One was her best friend and the other was her boyfriend. She had no idea that they had been sleeping together all this while. 'Sarah Sheng, you are the biggest joke in the world!' she cursed herself in her mind and ran out of the rental house as fast as she could.

She slammed the door hard.

Hearing the sound of the door, Hale Chen came to his senses as if he had just woken up from a dream. He grabbed his clothes in a hurry, put them on, and was about to chase after Sarah Sheng.

A look of pure evil flashed across Lenore Mo's face. With a gentle push of her slender fingers, the table lamp on the bedside table fell on the floor. Instantly, it cracked into a hundred pieces.

Hale Chen stepped on one piece with his bare foot and howled in pain.

He collapsed on the bed and raised his foot to see the wound. Hissing in pain, he stared at his bloody foot.

Pretending to be concerned, Lenore Mo shrieked, "Hale, are you okay?"

Hale Chen shook his head. Hopping out of bed, Lenore Mo began to look for the medicine box. When her back was turned towards him, a vicious smile crept up on her face.

Hugging herself as she walked on the street, Sarah Sheng cut a sorry figure.

Her boyfriend and best friend were messing around, and, to add insult to injury, she caught them red-handed. It was a dagger to her heart.

She felt aggrieved. She wanted to wail and mourn for the loss of her love, but she just couldn't cry.

She was so desolate that she didn't even notice that some people had been following her from the moment she ran out of the house.

The hooligans, who had been hired by Lenore Mo, had been waiting at the gate for a long time holding a photo of Sarah Sheng. As soon as she dashed out, they started following her closely.

She heard a whistle from behind.

She stopped and turned around to find a group of hooligans ogling her with lecherous smiles.

Taking a step back, she found herself in a deserted street.

She stared at the approaching hooligans. "What do you want?" she snapped.

"Beauty, why are you crying? Come and play with us. I promise we will make you smile," said the leader of the pack, smoothing his dyed hair.

The other hooligans laughed loudly and started to tease her. "We can make you so comfortable that you will scream, beauty!"

"You will enjoy it so much!"

Sarah stepped back and glared at them. "Don't take another step! Or I'll call the police!"

"Call the police? How will you do that? Come on! Don't joke with us!" Unaffected by her warning, several goons surrounded her.

In a panic, she bit the arm of one thug and struggled. The men bumped into each other during the skirmish.

Grabbing this opportunity, she escaped from the group of goons.

"Go after her!" The hooligans yelled, excited to catch her. The leader gritted his teeth and ran after Sarah.

Her captors were closing in on her and Sarah Sheng was starting to lose hope when she saw an unfinished wall in a construction site. She raced over and started throwing the bricks from the wall at the ruffians.

The bricks rained down on the rogues one by one, taking them by surprise.

They dodged most of the bricks and one of the bricks fell on a car parked nearby, setting off its alarm.

Startled by the loud alarm, the hooligans scattered immediately.

Seeing the hooligans fleeing, Sarah Sheng sighed in relief.

Feeling safe at last, she scanned the area she was standing in. A new building was coming up, which was still under construction, and she had just torn down the wall.

That was not all the damage she had caused. She walked towards the car, whose alarm was still blaring, and saw that several large dents had appeared on the hood of the car, and the windscreen was smashed, forming a spider net-shaped crack.

She had pretty much destroyed the car!

She wondered how much she would have to pay for the damages.

She lowered her head and carefully examined the dents on the hood. When she saw the logo, she almost fainted! Maserati!

'Oh my God!' Her jaw dropped. She couldn't believe what she had done.

Meanwhile, Owen Han strode out, taking off his safety helmet. He looked handsome and elegant.

He was at the construction site to inspect the upcoming real estate project of his company when he suddenly heard his car alarm go off.

He thought it might be a thief, but when he stepped out, he saw a long-haired girl standing beside his car.

The air was whipping her black hair into a frenzy. Her big, watery eyes looked particularly attractive on her delicate face.

He was stunned to see this familiar figure.

He walked over in a trance.

Hearing the footsteps, she turned around and saw a handsome face. He was holding a yellow safety helmet in his hand. The color of the helmet didn't match his expensive suit so she figured out that he wasn't an employee at the construction site.

"Sir, is this your car?" she asked in a low voice, with an apologetic expression.

Her voice made Owen Han regain his composure in an instant. The anxiety and surprise in his eyes gradually faded. Glancing at her indifferently, he pursed his lips, and said flatly, "Yes, it is."

"Sir, I'm so sorry. I have damaged your car by mistake." She had even destroyed the wall of the building.

His silence made her nervous so she sputtered, "But...but I didn't mean it. I was forced to do so. I was being followed by a gang of hooligans, so I had no choice but to throw bricks at them to defend myself. But I accidentally hit your car in the process."

"So what do you plan to do now?" he inquired raising an eyebrow.

"I'll pay you for the damages," she said, lowering her head.

Squinting at the woman in front of him, he asked, "Do you have the money?"

She shook her head sheepishly.

Chuckling, he asked, "Then how are you going to pay me?"

She tried to smile. "How about an IOU?"

"Are you kidding?" he asked, smirking. Surveying his property, he noticed the desecrated wall too. "And the wall is also destroyed by you. You need to pay me for that as well."

"Does this construction site belong to you?" She looked at him up and down. 'He is a rich man! He is a real estate developer.'

"Yes. So you need to pay me three hundred thousand in total."

"Three hundred thousand?" she bleated weakly. Her mouth went dry. She didn't even have thirty thousand, forget three hundred thousand!

She was a student, who had just graduated, and her family was not affluent.

"I can't arrange for much money right now. Can I pay you in installments?"

"How many installments are you planning to repay me in?"

"Um...I... I don't have a job yet. I won't be sure until I find a job," she said as her cheeks flushed red with embarrassment.

His gaze ran up and down her as he scrutinizing the girl in front of her. He noticed that the logo on her backpack.

"Are you a student of A University?" he asked.

"Yes. I just graduated."

"What is your major?"

"Jewelry Design."

"In that case, you can join my company. Jewelry is the main business of the Han Group. You can work in my company to pay off your debts," he said generously as if he was doing her a big favor.

"The Han Group?" It was a large conglomerate, which started with the jewelry business. Later, it delved into real estate, catering, entertainment, advertising, and films.

"You want me to work in the Han Group?" she asked, looking at him in disbelief. "Excuse me, but who are you?"

"Owen Han," he announced, raising his chin arrogantly. "You can work for my company to pay off your debts. After you have repaid me, you can jump to another job or resign as you like. Your position and salary will be decided after the interview. If there is no problem, you can come to the company and start working from tomorrow. But before that, I need all your information. Show me your ID card."

She muttered under her breath, 'Are you afraid that I will run away?'

She would die to get an opportunity to work with the prestigious Han Group.

Still, she obediently took out her ID card and gave it to him. It read, "Sarah Sheng, female, 22 years old." She was born in a small town in the south.

The girl he knew could not be related to her by blood as she was born in the north. They just looked similar to each other. He gazed at her deeply.

Chapter 2 You Rushed Into My Arms

"Don't look at me like that! The ID card is real. No one in their right mind would especially make a fake one," Sarah snapped.

"I didn't say it was a fake one," said Owen.

"Then why are you looking at me like that?"

"You have too many questions." Rolling his eyes, Owen turned around and put Sarah's ID card into his pocket. "Remember to come to the Han Group on time tomorrow."

"Wait, you..."

"What?" Owen demanded.

Sarah's voice became low. But the next moment, she cleared her throat, straightened her posture, and said loudly, "Give my ID card back. Mr. Han, according to the law of our country, no one has the right to retain someone's ID card."

Owen turned around and stared at the frail woman in front of him.

He walked towards Sarah with a glint in his eye and a smile on his face.

Sarah couldn't help but take two steps back. His overbearing personality automatically made her retreat.

"What...what are you doing?" she asked warily, as if Owen was a predator about to pounce on her.

Coming close to Sarah, he looked down at her and whispered, "Don't you want your ID card?"

Sarah nodded nervously.

Owen grabbed her wrist and pulled her hand up.

Sarah tried to withdraw her hand but did not succeed.

Owen turned over her palm and pressed her ID card on it. "Here you are," he said slowly, still holding her gaze.

Sarah finally withdrew her hand in a daze and clutched her ID card tight. He made a simple gesture of returning a card so overwhelming. She was about to say something, but Owen cut in. "I'll drive you home," he declared as if it was a command, not a question.

"What?" Sarah was stunned. She frowned, looking at the dented hood of the Maserati. The corner of the windshield was also shattered.

With a sneer, Owen said, "Don't worry. The appearance won't affect its functionality. You have to tell me where you live. Otherwise, if you run away, who will I ask for the money?"

"Okay." Sarah nodded and thought to herself, 'The richer people are, the more miserly they are. Isn't he affluent? Why is he so desperate for the compensation money?'

Owen seemed to have understood what she was thinking. His face darkened and he remarked, "Money is more important than anything else for a businessman. I never do any business to lose money. Are you coming or not? If you don't want to come, just stay here! What if those hooligans come back?"

"I'm coming! Wait for me!" she squeaked. Owen's words sent a chill down her spine. She chased after him and followed him closely to his car.

Once they were both inside the car, he zoomed away from the construction site with Sarah guiding him to the community where she lived.

In the passenger seat, Sarah rubbed her hands, gritted her teeth, and cracked her neck.

Owen looked at the woman beside him quizzically. "What are you doing?"

"I have to teach two people a lesson later!" Sarah stared at the road ahead with rage and determination coursing through her body. She continued to flex her fingers and stretch her wrists.

Owen was speechless.

However, just before they reached the gate of her community, Sarah yelped in astonishment.

Worried, Owen slammed the brakes. Surprise and disdain were written on his face. He roared, "What are you shouting for? Now, what happened?"

"My...my stuff!" Sarah was aghast. Pointing at the trash can outside the window, she asked, "Why is my stuff dumped out there?" She opened the door and hopped out of the car.

Standing in front of the pile of her belongings, she was full of righteous indignation.

Then she turned around and angrily raced towards the rented house at full speed.

Before Owen could open the door and go after her, she had already run far away.

"Open the door! Hale Chen, Lenore Mo, you wretched couple! Open the door! Come on, you cowards! Come out and face me! Why have you thrown all my stuff away?" Sarah pounded and kicked the door hard.

But it didn't budge. She realized that the lock had been changed.

She couldn't open the door no matter how hard she tried.

"Who's making a commotion out there? Why can't you let me take a nap in the afternoon?" The landlady emerged from her apartment with her hair messed up like a bird's nest. She grumbled as she trudged out sleepily. When she saw Sarah, her face turned pale as if she had seen a ghost. She screamed and stumbled. Leaning against the door, she stared at Sarah gobsmacked. "Aren't you dead?"

"What? Why did you think I was dead?" Sarah's face darkened and the corners of her mouth twitched. Her fair and beautiful face was scrunched up. She sneered, "Ma'am, who told you that I was dead? Was it Hale Chen and Lenore Mo? Those two devils?"

"Yes..." The woman nodded in a mix of confusion and fear.

The landlady narrated everything. After Hale and Lenore were caught by Sarah, they ask for the rent back and told the landlady that Sarah had died. They took her valuables and ran away!

As for the things tossed out in the trash can, as far as Sarah could see, they were all worthless items.

Closing her eyes, she clenched her fists in anger. She said through gritted teeth, "Those despicable guys!"

The landlady closed the door in a hurry when she saw how furious Sarah was. She was really scared of Sarah at this point.

"Ma'am, open the door. I want to rent the house again."

The woman opened the door a crack and said, "I have already got another tenant!" The she closed it again quickly.

Sarah felt like the wind had been knocked out of her. She stood in a daze in the empty corridor.

It took her a long time to react. Taking a deep breath, she slowly walked back downstairs.

She couldn't ask the landlord to compensate her for terminating the lease, because she had given Lenore and Hale the right to deal with everything for her. She had put too much trust in those vile people. It was entirely her fault. She couldn't blame the landlady for believing their lies.

But what would she do now? The money she currently had with her was barely enough for two bowls of instant noodles. Where could she go when she didn't have money? Could she stay with a friend for a few days?

Sarah hugged herself miserably and stepped out of the building feeling lost.

Beep! Beep! When she walked to the gate of the community, she heard the Maserati's loud horn.

Frowning, she looked at Owen's car with a long sigh. Why hadn't he left yet?

She had nothing now. And she owed him a lot of money. She felt that this was the lowest point of her life.

A pair of legs clad in neatly-ironed pants emerged from the car. Owen slammed the door coolly and slowly approached Sarah.

She blinked her big, beautiful eyes and looked at Owen blankly. Exhaling hard, she forced a smile and asked, "You haven't left yet?"

"I thought you ran away," said Owen in an accusatory tone.

Sarah had hopped out of his car and roared at a pile of garbage before sprinting off at high speed.

When Owen got out of the car and looked at her rapidly disappearing figure, he was stunned. She turned a corner and vanished. Owen was convinced then that she would go back on her word.

"Why would I run away?" She lowered her head as tears blurred her vision.

Owen gazed at her and asked softly, "Why are you crying? I didn't say anything bad to you."

"I feel wronged. My life is dark and hopeless. Can I jump off a bridge?" Sarah blubbered as the tears streamed down her face.

Her boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend.

Shortly after that, she was attacked by a group of hooligans. She bust up a Maserati and owed a whopping three hundred thousand dollars to the owner.

Now she was penniless and homeless. She was on the verge of breaking down.

Sarah crumpled to the ground and burst into tears.

The residents of the community had all come out to witness this scene.

Putting his hands on his knees, Owen stared at the woman squatting in front of him. This situation felt a little out of his control.

Nonetheless, he lowered his head and said gently, "Don't cry."

Sarah continued sobbing as if she hadn't heard Owen.

The onlookers gradually approached them. Owen's face darkened and his brows were furrowed. Bending down fully, he made up his mind. He squatted in front of her and patted her on the shoulder. "Don't cry. Tell me what happened," he coaxed tenderly.

His kindness was her undoing. She threw herself into his arms and wailed miserably.

When she pounced on him softly, her fragrance filled Owen's nostrils, making his heart skip a beat.

His eyes twinkled as he remembered the sunny afternoon when a beautiful girl threw herself into his arms at the school gate.

The woman in front of him had the same shiny, black hair, which hung down her back, like a beautiful, black waterfall.

Owen couldn't help but caress her back to comfort her.

Sarah kept crying in his arms, wringing all her tears out.

The two of them stayed there at the gate of the community, hugging each other.

Gradually, Sarah stopped crying. She wiped her tears and pursed her lips. Looking at the man in front of her, she stretched out her hand and pushed him away.

"Why are you holding me?" she asked him irately.

Owen slowly stood up and stared at her. The corners of his mouth twitched. "You were the one who rushed into my arms," he stated.

He looked at his suit, which was drenched with Sarah's tears and even a little snot. Gritting his teeth, he said, "You owe me for the laundry fee of my suit too."

Hearing that, Sarah's face turned sullen. She wanted to retort but when she saw Owen's messy suit, she couldn't get the words out. She sighed and said in a defeated voice, "I know."

"Now, can you tell me what's wrong with you?"

Sarah shook her head and walked to the trash can to collect her things.

Chapter 3 Drag Her Into The House

Owen's face darkened when he studied the woman's shabby suitcase. Sarah collected her belongings from the trash can and stuffed them into her suitcase. She wanted to find a place to disinfect them all, but she had no money in her pockets.

Pursing her red lips, she turned to look at Owen. "Mr. Han, I'll come to your company to work tomorrow, but I'm out of a home right now. I have no money and nowhere to go. I'm going to find some space under the pedestrian bridge. I'm leaving now."

"You're going to spend the night under the pedestrian bridge?" Owen raised his thick eyebrows and had a repulsed expression. He shook his head, stepped forward, and grabbed Sarah. "Whether you are making up a story or not, I have to follow you. I can't let you out of my sight. You must give me your address."

Sarah was stupefied. "I'm telling you, I don't have an address for you right now."

Then, shrugging off Owen's hand, she left.

Staring at her, Owen smiled sinisterly.

He turned around, got in the car, and followed her all the way.

Sarah trudged along the street like a zombie.

Her mind was empty as she walked aimlessly. She didn't even notice the cars zipping past her when she crossed the road.

A taxi screeched to a halt right in front of her. Startled, Sarah slumped onto the ground and her forehead started sweating.

Her worn suitcase was also smashed with a loud bang and the wheels flew away.

The taxi driver rolled down the window and shouted at Sarah, "Damn it! What's wrong with you? Why are you dashing across the street without looking? Why did you have to come in front of my taxi? It's unlucky for me!"

Behind Sarah, Owen slammed the car door and walked toward her in long strides. He squatted down and held her shoulder.

He shot the abusive driver a warning look, as if he was going to break the driver's face.

The driver gulped and withdrew his head back into the car silently.

"Do you want to die? Why don't you watch where you're going? Even if you are in debt, you don't have to commit suicide!" he said.

Feeling wronged, Sarah burst into tears again. "I was not trying to commit suicide! I'm just sad! My best friend cheated on me with my boyfriend. Then they both swindled me out of ten thousand dollars. They even snatched away my rent and fled with all my valuables. And on top of it all, I still owe you so much money. What should I do? Why am I so unlucky? What did I do wrong? Why did God do this to me?" Sarah blabbered on and on.

She was having a breakdown right there on the zebra crossing.

The cars came and went. Gritting his teeth, Owen growled, "Don't cry!"

This made Sarah cry even louder.

Meanwhile, traffic was starting to build up behind them and soon there was a long line of cars held up on the street because of them. Everyone was honking impatiently, creating quite a ruckus.

Owen suddenly lifted Sarah. "What are you doing?" she shrieked in horror.

Ignoring her, Owen put her into the car and shut the door.

He went back to pick up her pathetic suitcase and threw it into the trunk disgustedly. Then he got into the car gracefully and drove away.

"Where are you taking me?" Sarah asked, eyeing Owen warily.

Owen kept his mouth shut and continued driving.

Sarah suddenly screamed and reached out to open the door, intending to jump out of the running car.

Owen swerved and locked the car doors quickly.

"You are a crazy woman!" Gritting his teeth, Owen looked at the woman beside him. "Where do you think I'm taking you? You owe me so much money. I have to know your whereabouts. Since you have nowhere to go, you can live in my house. The rent will be added to the debt."

Sarah looked at Owen in disbelief and shook her head. "I can't afford rent at your house. Please let me go!" she pleaded.

"Shut up! Do you want to cause a traffic jam again?" he snarled. Stepping on the accelerator, he drove faster eager to get her to his house before she tried another stunt.

Thankfully, the rest of the drive passed without any incident.

When the car pulled up to the villa, Sarah looked even more depressed.

She would be repaying this debt till death. How could she live here? She contemplated her gloomy future.

The battered Maserati stopped smoothly on the parking lawn.

A servant hurried over. He was stunned to see the condition of the car. 'What happened to the car?' he thought to himself.

Then the door opened. Owen grumpily got out of the car with a woman, which surprised the servant even more.

Sarah raised her head to take in the huge villa. She turned around, ready to flee but her wrist was tightly grasped by Owen. "Where are you going?"

"I...I can't afford to rent your house. Mr. Han, please let me go! I will keep my stuff here and find a house to rent,"

Sarah implored as she struggled to free herself from Owen's grasp.

But Owen's hands were like a pair of pincers on her wrist.

No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get rid of him.

He looked at her and sneered, "Do you want to go in by yourself or do you want me to carry you in?"

Sarah's body stiffened and nodded in defeat. "I'll go in by myself," she said in a small voice.

As she walked forward, Owen reached out and grabbed her purse.

Shocked, Sarah tried to take it back and asked, "What are you doing? Give it back to me!"

Owen dodged her by turning around. He tossed the purse to the servant behind him without looking back. "Arrange a guest room for her and take her luggage upstairs."

"I'll carry my purse myself!" Sarah rushed to the servant.

Owen intercepted her and put his arm around her neck. Dragging her inside, he said, "No one will take your purse. It will be stored away properly, that's all. And I will take all the money you have as payment for your debts."

Sarah felt like she had been struck by lightning.

She was shoved into the room by Owen. As soon as she reached the door, she heard a car braking behind her.

A pair of sexy, long legs stepped out of the car.

"Owen!" called a gorgeous woman, raising her head.

Her voice drew Sarah's attention. The woman was attractive and flamboyant. She strutted towards them.

Sharon Shao looked at her up and down and turned towards Owen. "Owen, I made some cookies. Do you want to try them? Last time you said you didn't like desserts, so you won't refuse these sugar-free biscuits, will you? My servants said I did well," she said batting her eyelashes.

Hearing that, Owen smirked. He reached out for Sarah and put his arm around her shoulder intimately.

"Sorry, I only eat food that is made by my girlfriend now. So I'm afraid I'm going to refuse. I'm sorry. I'm so fond of her cooking that she's moving into my house. Now she can cook for me every day."

'How can Owen lie so blatantly?' Sarah was stumped.

She turned to look at Owen. When she started to refute, a hot kiss came down on her lips unexpectedly.

Owen pressed his body onto hers and kissed her red lips passionately, as if there was no one around.

Sarah's eyes widened in astonishment as he continued plundering her mouth. She struggled hard, but failed.

He shackled her with his overwhelming strength.

Meanwhile, Sharon's eyebrows were tightly knitted and she was staring daggers at Sarah.

After the kiss, Owen whispered in Sarah's ear, "Just be obedient and do as I say or I'll burn your luggage into ashes. And then I will lock you here naked."

Sarah's jaw dropped. The man was unbelievable! Sarah fumed and glared at the man in front of her.

Ignoring her, Owen pulled her closer and looked at Sharon Shao with a faint smile. "Sharon, would you like to come in for a cup of tea?"

She was about to say no but she suddenly changed her mind.

She looked at Sarah and smiled politely. "That sounds good. But do you mind, miss? May I know your name, please? I'm Sharon Shao, nice to meet you."

Sarah smiled awkwardly and answered, "My name is Sarah Sheng. Please come in, Miss Shao."

As soon as she finished speaking, Sarah glanced at Owen, who was still standing beside her.

He looked back at her affectionately.

'Amazing! This man acts so well!' she thought incredulously.

However, Sharon Shao didn't seem to be affected at all. She walked up to Sarah and smiled at her amicably. "Miss Sheng, thank you for inviting me in."

'This girl is no less. She is also good at acting, ' Sarah told herself.

She nodded smiling genially.

Sharon Shao sauntered into the house while Owen strolled in with his arm around Sarah.

The three of them sat in the living room and had tea leisurely. Sarah stole glances at the gentleman and the lady in front of her with butterflies in her stomach.

However, both Owen and Sharon Shao looked relaxed.

They talked about something she didn't understand.

They were discussing the stock market.

Sarah felt quite ignorant sitting there with them.

Sharon Shao seemed to love Owen very much, but her feelings weren't reciprocated by him.

'That's strange. Why doesn't Owen like this rich, beautiful, intelligent woman?' Sarah wondered.

While she was lost in thought, Owen stood up and said, "Excuse me, I need to go to the bathroom."

Watching him exiting the room, Sarah almost reached out her hand to him. Then she turned around and looked at Sharon, smiling sheepishly.

As soon as Owen was out of sight, Sharon's pleasant smile disappeared and her eyes turned menacing. She didn't look as intellectual and poised as she did a second ago. She stared at Sarah icily and looked at her up and down as if she was looking at a product.

Sarah was feeling uncomfortable with her gaze.

Some women were not very transparent. Sarah could tell just by looking at their faces.

Clearing her throat, Sarah took a deep breath and asked, "What are you looking at, Miss Shao?"

Sharon Shao was not someone to be trifled with and nor was Sarah.

Although Sarah looked cute, she was sharp as a tack.

Sharon Shao picked up her purse from the chair nearby and took out a check. She scribbled something on it casually and slapped the one-million-dollar check on the table.

She regarded Sarah and raised her chin. "I've seen a lot of women like you. All you want is money. But Owen is not the man you can be with. Take the money and leave him."
