Chapter 1 INVITATION

"Hey, you! Come here."

I lazily shifted my gaze in the direction I was being called and sneered coldly.

LUCI.

She always finds a way to get on my nerves, doesn't she?

I turned to her and rolled my eyes, which ignited a rage within her.

She stomped towards me and stood in my path, blocking my way to leave.

I stood firmly, piercing my gaze at her.

"What do you want?" I asked coldly, my eyes intensely piercing through her soul.

Her lips curved into an evil grin, and she clapped, drawing the attention of some martial students who giggled and chuckled along with her.

"Look who we have here! Some misfortunate, dirty, mateless pig trying to act tough," she giggled, her eyes burning with excitement.

I clenched my fist tightly, my heart throbbing with pain. I quickly bit my lip to suppress my anger.

My gaze swept through the cold room, which was silent like a grave, punctuated solely by the rhythmic ticking of the enchanted clock on the wall, waiting for my response. I chuckled softly. She was going to get the answers she deserved. I tilted my head as my lips curved into an evil smirk. "Well, at least I am a misfortunate werewolf who hasn't found her mate, unlike your mother, who did and cheated on your dad with another werewolf for money. Isn't that pathetic?"

The class immediately buzzed with murmurs of silence, shocked by the revelation. Her face suddenly drained of color from shame, her skin pale as snow. She stared at me, dumbfounded and unable to speak, trapped in dismay.

"Crack"

Her hands suddenly landed on my face, causing me to wince in agony. I glared at her with killer eyes, ready to lunge at her.

We both crashed to the floor, throwing punches. The class immediately roared with commotion. She was about to throw a punch at me, and I dodged it, which enraged her. I slowly extended my claws and grazed her face.

She shrieked, wincing in agony.

"What's going on here?" The martial coach lunged towards us, trying to separate us, but my power was unmatched.

"Evelyn, you will kill her, and you know the penalty for that," she yelled, realizing she had failed to separate me from Luci; my powers shouldn't be underestimated.

I slowly comprehended this and detached my grip from her body.

Luci crawled away from me, curling up like a ball in a corner while staring at me with a thunderstruck look.

I couldn't help but grin at her, and she burst into tears, with blood dripping from her face.

"Evelyn, how dare you fight in the moonlight martial arts class? How dare you defile the rules of the school? Under no circumstances will you unleash your Wolf in this school," she yelled, pointing her finger at me.

A moonlight defile class is a martial class that all werewolves must attend after college to make their strength vigorous enough to be able to fight against any prey.

I couldn't help but scoff, clenching my fist.

"She started it first! Why the hell did she mock me because I haven't found my mate yet?" I muttered coldly, gritting my teeth.

"Watch your words, Evelyn," she warned, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

"That doesn't give you the right to fight, Evelyn," she stated, her voice lowered.

I suddenly choked in my throat, my eyelids twitching in anger. I could feel my claws extending, and I shut my eyes, taking a deep breath.

The scene couldn't go unnoticed by the martial coach, and she stepped back, assisting Luci in getting up and leading her to the clawsome class facility.

She turned back to me. "I want you to be here as early as 5:00 AM tomorrow; you've got some punishment to serve."

I stared at her, dumbfounded. Why do I have to be the most hated one here, all for a mate? Yes, I am Evelyn, a misfortunate werewolf who hasn't found her mate at the age of 23 and for that I was being mocked mercilessly in every area of my life.

In the pack of the Tharros, a female werewolf should be able to find her mate before the age of 18, and if she hasn't, she will be exiled or face a cruel fate, as it is rumored to bring bad luck to the pack.

I walked home lazily after a long day of drama, and proceed back to my room, slamming the door shut.

I took a quick shower and slipped into my fluffy nightwear, and curved up in my bed.

I was pondering how my life has turn into this dumfounded clutter when a knock detached my thoughts.

"Evelyn, can we come in?" my parents asked from behind the door, making me sit up straight in my bed.

"We?" I wondered, raising my eyebrows.my mom switched my door knob and came in, accompanied with my dad.

I glared at their faces, which has a pace of worry written allover it..

This made my heart skipped a bit.

What was happening? I have never came across my parents looking this unease.

My dad cleared his throat, and walked towards me sitting beside me, and so with my mom.

My gaze wondered between them, searching for answers that was hidden beneath their expression.

My dad added, "Evelyn, I am sorry to break this to you, but there's something important you need to be aware of," my dad said, with a glint of panic in his eyes.

I turned to my mom, who immediately diverted her eyes towards me, avoiding my gaze.

my heartbeat increased, cold sweat slowly fuming up in my hands.

"Hunny, we got a message from Beta sent by the Alpha to inform you that you have been chosen among the werewolves who are going for a Blood Moon boot camp."

I suddenly went pale my world immediately curmmbled I was Left speechless, I tried to blink I couldn't afraid the world will disappear between a twinkle of an eye, stared in disbelief at the information I was being told

"A Blood Moon boot camp?" I yelled. Ascending from the bed, I sat with them, and my mom rose up from the bed, cupping my face in her arms.

"Calm down, Evelyn. I know it's difficult information for you to handle, but darling, we have no choice. He gave us a strict order: it's either you accept or you die, and we wouldn't want that to happen," my mom panicked, with tears at the tip of her eyes.

A BLOOD MOON BOOT CAMP.

Tears poured down my cheeks like aluminum rain,my head was spinning,i could feel a thousand drums beating on it.

A blood moon boot camp is like sending someone to his or her death.

A blood moon camp is a training ground for all the clans' werewolves. Its purpose is to convene werewolves together, training them to be militiamen for every pack

Yeah, I know you might be wondering why it isn't that terrifying, but there is more to it. In our supernatural existence, we have different species of werewolves. We are categorized into three types: the Kyrethi, Valtor, and Lythari. We belong to the Valtor species.

The Kyrethi are the omnipotent werewolves, and the Valtor and Lythari originated from their blood.

The kyrethi are also described as our gods and are rarely seen.

Rumors has it that their skin is as pale as snow and their hair as white as wool. They are not only werewolves but also hybrids of witches, possessing magical powers

The most terrifying fact about them is that they feed on their creations. No Valtor or lythari has ever returned from their territory alive

The Lythari are just ordinary shifter wolves, they are as powerless as a lamb and are differentiated by the redness of their hair. We, the Valtor wolves, are powerful, but we aren't hybrids or witches; we are much more powerful than the Lythari.

The blood moon camp is a dead zone where all species come together for training. Unfortunately, most of us don't make it out alive, earning it a reputation as the camp of pitfalls.

I stood there, hopelessly shattered and smashed. My knees became weak and gave in, causing me to fall down to my knees with tears pouring down my cheeks. My mom's gaze swept through me as she sat down, dormant; she felt defeated and broken.

"I'm sorry I couldn't be of use to you," she muttered, with teary eyes. I turned to her, obviously speechless. Why was I the misfortunate werewolf?

My dad sat down with his head bowed, avoiding my gaze. So this is how my fate was decided.

I stood up, heading out of my room, and it immediately alerted my parents, making them stand up with millions of questions written in their eyes.

"No need to ask, I am not running away. I am going for a run," I muttered coldly. I took a glance at my parents before exiting my room and slamming the door shut.

I shifted into my wolf and ran into the forest, running until I was out of breath. I stopped at a pebble stone located at the southern forest mountain.

I shifted into my human form and curled up like a ball, folding my arms against my chest, shivering slightly from the cold. I stared at the mountain, which had a beautiful, phenomenal view, and I couldn't help but adore nature, with the birds chirping, making it magical. My thoughts suddenly drifted to the current circumstances.

I got so carried away by my thoughts that I didn't notice the tears dripping slightly from my eyes. I reached out to my wolf to seek comfort. "Lyla, are you there?" I asked gently.

"I'm here, and I know everything; we can't change our fate. It's not our fault that fate has decided to evolve from us," she answered.

"Moon gods, I'm leaving my fate in your hands," I mumbled quietly, staring up at the sky. Suddenly, I heard a rustling behind me and quickly got up, alerted by my wolf. My claws began to extend, equipped for whatever was coming, As the rustling became louder and closer, I suddenly started letting Lyla out, with my fangs out and my eyes dazzling in red.

Chapter 2 Red wolf

suddenly, a red-headed girl around my age slipped and fell right in front of me,

"Oh God, I'm screwed," she complained, and stomped towards me hugging me tightly. I stood there frozen, speechless, then pushed her slightly. scanning her, I caught a whiff of her scent, causing my forehead to glitch with confusion.

A Lythari werewolf.

My eyebrows raised as I glanced at her, lost in confusion. What was a Lythari werewolf doing in Valtor territory? It is forbidden for any werewolves to leave their territory, preventing death from other species. Having a Lythari werewolf here, standing in front of me, might get me and her into trouble.

"What are you doing here? You know you could get detained," I warned, my hands folded around my chest.

My eyes piercing through her for answers.

She rolled her eyes, ignoring my questions and took of her hoodie, left with just a top, and handed the sweater to me.

"you are naked, take it."

I gasped and looked down on myself realizing i was indeed naked. I took the sweater from her, my face burning hard from shame.

"Gosh what a disgrace," I heard Lyla scream in my mind. I quickly went into hiding behind the tree to put on the jacket.

After getting dressed, I found the red-headed girl sitting on the pebble stone, lost in thought. I let out a sigh and sat close to her.

"Thanks for the jacket," I said. she nodded.

"You didn't answer my question. What are you doing in our territory? Aren't you afraid of being killed?"

She turned to me with a blank expression that I couldn't ignore. She sighed, and tears welled up in her eyes. "I was chosen among the werewolves who are going for the Blood Moon boot camp," she choked, her voice hoarse but calmly steady.

I turned to her, my heart throbbing with sorrow.

So I wasn't the only ill-fated one?

I bought up my knees to my chest,my hair twirling by the wind.

No one likes the Blood Moon Camp. It's like sending a werewolf into exile; it's only cruel for the alpha to include ladies.

"I am also included," I added, with my head facing the floor.

It's hurts being categorize among the ill fated, but if telling this stranger will make her heart less heavy it's ok.

Her lips slowly curved into a smile, and she hugged me, which left me speechless again.

I blinked hard, trying to break from her hugg.

In a crucial situation, why is this red-haired wolf happy?

She seemed to catch a glimpse of my confusion and said, cutting me through the daze.

"Well, I'm just overwhelmed because I am not left alone; I do have company now," she giggled, leaving me in dismay...

So this red-eyed wolf was jubilant about the situation, how was she sure she's going to find me?

MANIC...

I slowly shook my head in disapproval and swifted my gaze to her.

"Any information on when we are descending?" I asked. Her grip tighten on her clothes, her face drained from fear.she choked on her voice, "TOMORROW."

I ran my hands across my hair my heart slowing aching with pain.

This yanked me from reality. (TOMORROW) Why so fast? The i turned to her as something seemed to flushed through my mind, fuming up with questions

"Then what are you doing, trying to run away?" I questioned. She turned to me and inhaled deeply before exhaling.

"Yes." I glanced at her, stunned by her confidence. "But why? Even if we decide to run away, we can't change our fate.

Karma is definitely going to catch up with us or something.

I suddenly realized something as my forehead glitched with confusion and asked, "Why were you chosen among the Blood Moon Boot Camp?" She stared at me with her eyelid raised lazily.

"I haven't found my stupid mate," I couldn't contain my laughter; I burst out laughing. She seemed stunned and eventually joined me.

"I guess we are one of a kind, huh? My mate is running away from me," I chuckled.

In a conclusion, that should be the reason, my mate is actually frightened by me.

After a moment of silence, watching every move of nature, she suddenly asked, "Why didn't you kill me or report me to the pack council?" I was left baffled by her questions, which cut through me.

why didn't I report?

Well, no time for that, I'm going to face my life verdict now.

I let a sigh and stood up, preparing to get ready for tomorrow's bombshell.

She seem alerted and stood up along with me.

I stared at her dumbfounded, was she planning on coming with me?

"Don't worry, I'm going back home to face the judgment" she answered.

I breathed a sigh of relief. There's going to be a death penalty when she's found by anyone.

I extended my hand to her. "I'm Evelyn."

She shook my hand back, giggling.

"I'm Rita, nice to meet you."

We both chuckled.

"See you in the Blood Moon boot camp." She winked at me, with a slight smile curved on her lips

She waved, and I waved back at her with a faint smile on my lips. She shifted into a large brown wolf mixed with red and stomped off into the forest, leaving the leaves to float in the air due to her speed.

I stood there, staring blankly at her shadows which slowly faded in the woods.

I shifted into my wolf and headed back home, passing through the backyard and hiding my bare body from my neighbor.

I headed back to my room, kicking the door open, which opened with a crack sound, my gaze swiped through the room and felt a nauseous pain in my stomach. I was going to miss my family and my environment. I sat down on my bed and buried my face in my arms.

I suddenly heard my doorknob turn, which diverted my attention. "Mom?" She smiled warmly at me, and I noticed a white paper envelope in her hands. My gaze was fixed on it.

"What's that?" I asked, pointing at the envelope. She curved her lips into a smile, but it didn't seem like a genuine one. "It's the blood moon boot camp invitation," she handed it to me. Curious, I took it.

It reads: "All blood moon boot camp werewolves who are selected should assemble at the pack council. There's some information that needs to be passed by the alpha to you before descending." I chuckled bitterly,as I shot the envelope and tossed it aside,my eyes welling up with tears. I thought it was a quip, but it was literally real life.

My mom couldn't bear the shattered dilemma and sat besides me,stroking my hair softy.

"Baby, I know this is a very challenging task for a girl to handle, but please do it for me and your dad, you are my only child, come back alive and create a strong epithet for this family," she muttered, her smile tinged with sadness.

I was indeed her only child, which made me the center of her world. I could see through my mom's eyes that she was trying hard to conceal her sadness, but she had no choice; it was either she let me go or watch my dead body.

She immediately took my hands in hers, as a thought slowly creeped in her mind and her lips curved into a smile.

"Let's go for a run tonight, as our mother-daughter bond," she stated, and I nodded with a smile, having a last run with her would be so cherish able to me.

My mind slowly wondered of to something, as a thought flushed through my mind

"What about Dad?" I asked.

Her eyebrows furrowed slightly as she replied, "He and some men accompanied the beta to sort out some pack business."

"Ohh, okay," I faked a smile but felt crushed. So he didn't even want to say goodbye to his daughter?

PATHETIC.

You can't blame him; my dad and I aren't on good terms with each other, so I don't blame him. He never considered me his daughter anyway; he always wanted a son.

I was going to miss my mom a lot. no more running in the woods for the full moon with her anymore. I am not sure I am ever going to endure without her.

She helped me pack my essential clothes into my bag.

I immediately asked when something flashed through my mind, "Mom, is today a full moon?"

"Yes, hun, any moment from now the moon will emerge, so we have to nimble up."

I really need to nimble up; I can't beat the sight of a full moon. It's actually Lyla's night, my werewolf. She's very forceful.

I was about to pack up my last set of clothes when a necklace slipped out of my pocket falling right to the floor,

I immediately picked it up,my heart ached when some memory reemerged.

I remember this necklace, it's a memory that cannot disappear.

This necklace was given to me by Lucan, my childhood crush, but unfortunately for us, we weren't mates.

Only God knows the trauma and torment I went through when I discovered his mate, I uncovered that he never really had any feelings for me.

I shuffled the necklace to the corner of my bag and let out a sigh.

My mom excused herself and left my room, leaving me alone. I sat on my bed and pulled my knees to my chest, thinking about how my life was going to navigate.

Suddenly, I felt my hands trembling and my body cracking. My gaze immediately drifted to my window, and my eyes locked with the moon...

Chapter 3 Goodbye

My gaze suddenly locked with the moon; it's time for the full moon.

My ears reverberated with the sounds of howling wolves, my eyes turned dazzling red, and my claws slowly crept out.

I stared at the window, my only hope for escape, and contemplated jumping out and dashing away with speed.

I shredded my cloths, and a large black wolf -my mom- appeared besides me

We ran swiftly into the woods, playing and howling under the moonlight, cherishing our last mother-daughter moment.

We stopped at a pebble Stone and gazed out the mountains, talking in the view lost in our own thoughts.

This was it.

This was our last night together as mother and daughter.

We scrambled back home as the sun began to rise. I dashed into my room, took a hot bath, got dressed, and checked my clock which read; 4:30 a.m.

I had plenty of time to meet up with Miss Victoria, our coach.

She had ask me to meet her by 5 a.m.

I was wondered what she wanted to talk about. I gazed at my reflection i was wearing a black leather jacket, matching black leather pants, and boots.

I already had the aura of a soldier.

I let out a giggle.

As I was about to launch out of the house,my mom stopped me.

She looked at me with confusion and worry etched on her face.

"Where are you going, hun? Today is the day; I can't afford to look for you."

I gave her a reassuring smile.

"Nowhere, Mom. I will be back in a jiffy; Miss Victoria wants to have a word with me."

And she immediately narrowed her eyes at me. "What did you do?"

I swallowed hard, obviously scared she was going to catch me.

"Nothing," I shrugged off my shoulder.

"Nothing?" she yelled, glaring at me as if she were staring right into my soul.

I couldn't hold the heat and blurted out, "It was Luci's fault." Her eyes went wide open, and she covered her mouth with her hands.

"What the hell did you do to Luci?" she asked in disbelief. "Nothing, just grazed her face a little." "You did what...?" she yelled, obviously shocked.

Yeah, she always knew I had a quick fuse; she mostly gave me tips on how to control it. I suddenly rushed towards her and kissed her forehead.

"Mom, I will be back; I'm running late," I mentioned and hastily departed. She stared at me, her mouth wide open in shock, and yelled,

"You can't run forever!" she roared, and I couldn't help but chuckle hard while running away.

I got to the Moonlight Defile School and opened the gate, which creaked as it swung open.

I entered, observing the school environment, with crickets chirping and owls hooting, the environment enchanted with darkness.

I quickly went into the faculty lounge and came to a halt when I came across a large door with the name "The Clawsome Coach." I pushed the door, which opened with a loud screech, and stepped inside.

I swept a glance around the office and was fascinated by the artwork. My gaze suddenly diverted to something on the table that was hidden behind a book.

My eyebrows furrowed slightly as I approached the table.

I picked it up, and it seemed like a compact, odd sculpture. What kind of object is this? I was lost in a world of inquisitiveness when Miss Victoria emerged from a door connected to her office, causing me to drop the object in a daze.

She stared at me, stunned, of while I was here, and quickly took the object and tossed it aside.

"What are you doing here, Evelyn?" she stuttered, a glitch of panic on her face.

"You asked me to be here, right?" I responded, my eyes fiercely glued to her try to process weirdness behind her actions.

"Oh, I didn't recall I had asked you," she chuckled nervously, pushing her glasses up at the bridge of her nose.

"You did," I replied, my eyes wandering around her.

"Oh, about what you did to Luci. Thank the gods, she's a werewolf, and we have this ability to heal fast. What would have become of her?"

I suddenly let out a chuckle, my gaze fixed on her.

"You just mentioned that, so it's fine."

"You," she pointed at me frustratedly and let out a sigh.

"I heard you had been selected among the people who are going for the Blood Moon boot camp."

I immediately bit my lips to suppress the ache I felt in my heart.

"Yes, I was selected," I said firmly.

She stepped forward to me, held my shoulder firmly, and stated,

"You are strong, Evelyn. You will get through this, you were destined to be on this journey, take it as your life purpose"

I nodded and Said

"Thanks, and I will take it as my life task because it's part of my fate."

She flashed a smile at me and gave shoulder a little pat.

My gaze drifted to the wall clock, which read 5:45 AM, and my mind began to wander, thinking about the object

"Miss Victoria, what is was object you took from me?"

She looked puzzled by my question, but smiled.

"Nothing, dear, just some old bizarre thing my granny gave to me," she chuckled, and I chuckled did along with her.

But her eyes betray her, screaming lies.

I left the school and headed back home.

When I arrived home, I saw my bags already packed up by my mom.

"It's time," she muttered, her eyes swollen; I think she had cried a lot.

We walked through the crowded pack market and came across many young women and men heading to the park council announcement.

The air was filled with sounds of tears and murmurs.

In my whole life, I had never imagined I would be among these people, going to fight for our lives.

When I was 16 and 17, I would hide the crowds to watch people going to the Blood Moon Boot Camp.

We saw over 300 people go to the blood moon boot camp, but only 10 or 5 returned alive.

It's heartbreaking to be among those who are going to fight for their lives

We finally arrived at the pack council and saw the Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Omega standing vigorously and elegantly at the dais, waiting for the Alpha to address us.

Immediately, the crowd went tranquil like a graveyard.

The Alpha arrived.

I stared at the broad and strong muscular man standing vigorously on the dais who began his speech.

"I know this is a very challenging and deadly assignment for us to execute, but we have no choice. Over the years, we have respected a tradition that has been passed down to every generation, and it can't be changed. I am sorry if you find yourself tangled in this situation, but it is set to be our fate. We can't question anyone, it's the moon gods that choose a path for us, and it's that path we must follow." The crowd immediately roared with cheers and clapping.

He continued and brought out a paper, reading from it: "The Blood Moon Camp is carried out for a year and has a rule that every Valtor werewolf must follow:

1. No Valtor from the Tharros pack is allowed to mate with any other wolves apart from their species.

2. No Valtor from the Tharros pack is allowed to get pregnant by another species of wolves.

Anyone who comes with a pregnancy from another species of wolves will be eliminated." The crowd followed with silent murmurings and questions.

"This is a message passed to you by your alpha, and you will be guarded by the soldiers away from the pack, where you will see a train. Please be alert and get on that train," he concluded, stepping off from the dais.

Immediately, the crowd echoed with tears and murmurs, and my mom turned to me with tears pouring down her eyes. I hugged her tightly, crying bitterly.

"Please be strong and stay alive for me, and don't forget about our love and the bond we share. If you are in a difficult situation, just remember I am always in ur heart," she choked on her voice while handing me my bags, which I took.

"I won't forget you, Mom. I love you," I uttered, half-yelling due to the commotion of the crowd, with tears dripping down my face.

I took a quick glance at my mom as we were led away from the pack, little by little her shadow slowly faded lost among the crowd.

We were led away by the moon soldiers, away from the pack, and came to a halt when we reached an isolated wilderness desert. The soldiers immediately turned their backs, leaving us confused. Some werewolves were tired from the short journey and sat helplessly on the floor.

I breathed out a sigh of relief when I saw a train track on the floor. Immediately, I felt the floor vibrating.

As the vibrations became stronger, i realized it was the train coming. Everyone got alerted and stood up.

"I think the train isn't stopping," someone among us spoke.

"Oh my, the train isn't stopping!"

As the train got closer, everyone panicked in confusion.

"What are we going to do now?" I yelled as the train was already close to us, lunching with full speed.

"Jump onto the train!" a boy among us shouted. We ran towards the train, and as it was heading towards a narrow tunnel, we jumped in and fell with a loud thud inside.

I winced in pain slightly as my head hit the floor, the train had no chairs or anything, just emptiness. I struggled to rest my back in the train when someone tapped me.
