A star who had died miserably, a series of murders, and the resurrection of the victim... In front of so many dangers and secrets, she gradually indulged herself in his protection. But, where should her love go?

Chapter 1 What Do You Think Of Me

It was a clear night with a bright moon and just a few stars.

Eva Lu was staggering along on a desolate road. Suddenly, she stumbled and fell to her knees. She propped herself up and cursed, "William, you bastard!"

She was in a sorry state. She had been happily waiting for her boyfriend at the gate of the Civil Affairs Bureau to get the marriage licenses on their third dating anniversary. However, he had never showed up. At last, she had gotten a message from him, which shattered her heart into a million pieces.

"Eva, I'm sorry. I think I have always been in love with Rosy. Let's break up!"

'Let's break up!' The three words ended their three-year relationship in an instant.

Eva Lu deleted all his contact information at once and went to a bar to drink away her grief.

A car screeched to a halt one centimeter away from Eva Lu. The man inside rolled down his car window and said coldly, "Get out of the way."

The strong headlights made her eyes hurt. She squinted uncomfortably and stood in front of the car. With a bottle of wine in one hand, she pressed down on the hood of the car with the other. Whistling casually, she remarked, "Dude, good driving skills!"

Looking at the drunkard in front of him, Ron Jiang suppressed his impatience and repeated, "Get out of the way."

Detecting the forbearance in his tone, Eva Lu raised her eyebrows and burped loudly. She waved her hand and shook her head. "The road is so wide. Where can't you go from there? Why do you have to go from my side?"

Looking at the narrow passage, Ron Jiang pressed his lips into a thin line and decided not to argue with the drunk woman. Starting the car, he began retreating, but she unexpectedly walked around the car, leaned into his window, and stared straight at him.

"Why am I so unlucky?" Eva Lu sighed and the strong smell of alcohol filled his nostrils. With a frown, Ron Jiang reached out to raise the window but was stopped by her.

"Hey, stranger, let's chat for a while," Eva Lu said, looking at him seriously.

Ron Jiang stared into her eyes, which were deep and melancholy, like the most brilliant river of stars in the universe. Intrigued, he turned off the engine and nodded. "Go ahead."

Eva Lu said with a smile, "Then come out of the car. It's tiring to stand like this!"

Ron Jiang's face darkened and he replied curtly, "I don't have time to talk to you. Let go of me."

"No way!" Alcohol made people foolhardy. Eva Lu felt the man's coldness but she still tugged his sleeve, trying to drag him out.

"Crazy woman!" roared Ron Jiang angrily. He was a neat freak and didn't like to be manhandled. Twisting his arm, he easily escaped her clutches and drove away.

Eva Lu fell to the ground awkwardly. Hugging her knees, she buried her head between her legs and sobbed softly.

How could she not be sad?

She was an orphan and went to college when she was eighteen years old. She got into a medical college purely on merit and there she met her only friend, Rosy Jiang. After graduation, she fell in love with William Yu. They had been together for three years now.

But the eight years of friendship and three years of love collapsed in an instant.

It was heartbreaking.

After she had cried to her heart's content, she wiped her tears and found a pair of shiny leather shoes in front of her. "Why are you crying?" asked the man calmly.

Eva Lu, who was in a trance, faintly smelled blood but she ignored it. Smiling bitterly, she said, "My boyfriend is in love with my bestie. How can I not cry?"

Ron Jiang was silent. He had a happy childhood, his parents were in love, and he had a good relationship with his brother. He hadn't been in love yet, so he was unable to empathize with her. If the Jiang family found out that he was kindly comforting a heartbroken drunkard on the roadside, they would be shocked.

After a moment's silence, Eva Lu smiled drunkenly and said, "I'm so stupid crying for a man. Why can't I find someone else? There are so many men in the world. Right?"

Ron Jiang squinted and nodded, "Yes."

"By the way, are you married? Do you have a girlfriend?" asked Eva Lu, changing the topic.

"No."

Eva was surprised. "You look like you're more than 30 years old but you are still unmarried?" Ignoring the man's sour expression, she staggered to her feet, put her hand on his shoulder and blinked. "What do you think of me? How about we follow the latest trend and have a flash marriage? I have money, a car, and a house, enough to support you," she gloated.

Ron Jiang, the CEO of J Group, the leading pharmaceutical company in H Country, was over 30 years of age. No one had ever told him that they would support him. Hearing this, Ron Jiang laughed out of anger. He was about to respond when he heard a blaring ringtone.

Eva Lu waved her hand and answered the phone. He didn't know what the person on the other end of the phone was saying, but her face suddenly became serious. She suppressed her drunken state and said, "Okay, I'll be there soon."

After hanging up the phone, she patted his shoulder and said gratefully, "Thank you. I have to go to work now. You'd better go home quickly. It's dangerous outside."

With that, she turned around and left, ignoring his darkened face again.

The Empire Theatre in J City was five hundred meters away from where Eva Lu was.

There was a hubbub at the place. There was a barricade tape near the backstage area. The staff had gathered there and the atmosphere was tense.

"Excuse me, please." Putting on her lab coat, Eva Lu squeezed through the crowd and walked over the barricade tape. "Hilary, where is the corpse?" she asked.

Hilary Chao, a short-haired girl with black-rimmed glasses, led the way for her. "Eva, the corpse is disgusting. I hope you can bear it!"

Hearing this, Eva Lu chuckled. "I've been a forensic expert for three years. I've seen all kinds of corpses. Don't worry," she assured.

Her major in college was forensic science. When she was in the fourth year of university, she was chosen to work at the J City Police Station due to her excellent grades. She interned there for a year, and after graduation, she started working full time at the police station. When she had started dating William Yu, he had admired her for being brave and meticulous. He had called her his muse. In less than half a year, he had begun to dislike her and complained that she always had a strange smell on her body, reminding him of those rotten, stinky corpses that she had dealt with. She was no longer his muse.

Eva Lu came to her senses as soon as she saw the corpse. She squatted down to inspect it.

Just as Hilary Chao said, the corpse was in a horrible state.

The white cloth covering the dead body was pulled open, revealing a pale face. Eva Lu closed her eyes for a while, suppressed the sadness in her heart, and asked calmly, "Have you found the identity of the victim?"

"The information is here," Hilary Chao replied. "The victim is Adela Song, a 28-year-old actress..."

Eva Lu nodded and stood up. "I'll do a preliminary examination first and send the corpse to the station later. I'll hand over the report to the captain tomorrow morning."

Chapter 2 I Have A Girlfriend

"Okay, thank you," Hilary responded. With the official business out of the way, she began to gossip. "Eva, how do you feel after getting married?"

Hearing this, Eva's eyes turned misty and she replied weakly, "I'm not married."

"What?" Hilary's jaw dropped in disbelief. She wondered what on earth would cause a problem so big that Eva had to call off the wedding. She knew just how important the relationship and the wedding were for Eva.

With a wry smile at the corners of her mouth, Eva announced, "Well, I was stood up." Then she related what had happened that morning to Hilary and concluded, "It's just that my boyfriend has always been in love with my bestie, understand?"

Hilary nodded blankly. She was dumbstruck. Snapping out of the shock, she said angrily, "I knew that Rosy is not a good person. Every time she came to our autopsy department, she turned her nose up like a fake princess."

Eva was amused by her words. "What are you talking about? Rosy is from a rich family. Her distant cousin is the CEO of J Group," she reminded Hilary.

"Of course I know. She has shown off to us countless times. Distant cousin. Who knows how distant it is?" Hilary spat, rolling her eyes. "I think you have the temperament of a lady from a rich family. Maybe your biological parents are rich."

Hearing this, Eva laughed. "I agree with you!"

She knew that Hilary was trying to lighten the atmosphere to cheer her up. The result was as expected. Eva was feeling better. She suddenly thought of the man she met on the roadside. He appeared cold but he was a good man inside.

Meanwhile, Ron stopped the car at his family's villa and the butler came over looking sullen.

"Mr. Jiang, your grandpa lost his temper again."

Ron was used to it. After handing the car keys to the butler, he stepped into the room, barely avoiding a teacup that came flying his way.

Nicholas Jiang was so angry that his beard was trembling. "You brat! Did you insult the girl at the blind date today?" he asked angrily.

Ron felt a little helpless in the face of his grandfather's accusation. Thinking of the woman with a one-inch thick foundation on her face, he felt a little nauseated. "No, I just asked her to smile less or else her face would crease," he quipped.

Ron's mother, Lauren Qin, burst into laughter. Her son was stoic but he had a sharp tongue. His biting comment proved that he must have been impatient with the blind date.

"Dad, don't worry. Sooner or later, Ron will get married," she comforted her father-in-law.

Nicholas Jiang finally stopped scolding for the sake of his daughter-in-law. He snorted arrogantly and complained, "Who knows when he will get married? Ron, if you don't bring a girl home within a month, I will force you to get married!"

With this warning, the patriarch frowned and glanced at his eldest grandson with disappointment. "Alas, you are already thirty-two years old. When I was your age, your father was old enough to help with housework..."

Seeing that his grandfather was about to start nagging and lecturing him again, Ron interrupted him. "Grandpa, I have a girlfriend."

"Really?" Nicholas Jiang's eyes lit up and Lauren Qin also came over at once. "What's her name? Where is she from? How old is she? What does she do?"

All of a sudden, the drunkard woman appeared in Ron's mind. "She might be from J City and she looks like twenty-five or twenty-six," he mused.

"Might be? Looks like?" Nicholas Jiang's expression soured.

Lauren Qin comforted him with a smile and asked gently, "Ron, do you really have a girlfriend?"

"Soon. We just met today and soon she will be my girlfriend," he assured them.

After saying that, he turned around and went upstairs, ignoring the withering looks both of them gave him.

Downstairs, Nicholas Jiang and Lauren Qin were still fretting and fuming about their discussion with Ron. She suddenly noticed something on Ron and asked, "Wait, are you hurt? Why do you look a little..."

Ron paused and replied calmly, "Yes, but nothing serious."

Lauren Qin didn't pursue the matter further but Nicholas Jiang took the girlfriend thing very seriously.

"Lauren, is he telling the truth?"

"It seems to be." Lauren Qin shook her head incredulously. "I didn't expect him to fall in love with someone at first sight. I wonder what the girl's impression of him is."

The next morning, Eva handed over the autopsy report to the captain. After resting a while at the station, she was ready to go home.

Today was the weekend and it was her day off. After last night's drinking and the new case, which kept her up late, she was exhausted.

As soon as she got out of the police station, she saw a black Lincoln pulling up in front of her. A man in a suit got out of the car and strode over to her. "Miss, are you Eva Lu?" he asked politely.

"Yes, I am."

The man signaled towards the car and said, "Our CEO wants to see you."

"I don't know any CEO," replied Eva curtly. She wanted to walk away.

Forensic experts could often make the corpse speak and find the key to the case, and that was just what Eva could do. According to the reports, Adela had been in relationships with many rich people. Perhaps some CEO got the news and wanted to bribe Eva.

Eva felt a little helpless. She was only responsible for the autopsy, not for solving the case. The CEO had found the wrong person.

However, when she proceeded to move, the man blocked her path. "Sir, look around you. This is a police station," Eva threatened icily.

The man was about to retort but stopped as if he had received some instructions. He turned around and stood aside. Eva was about to leave when she saw a familiar figure emerging from the car.

"It's you?" She was a little surprised. It was the man who comforted her last night.

"It's me," Ron nodded. "I have something to discuss with you."

Eva hesitated. Although she had a good impression of this man, she would not help him if it was about the case. As a forensic expert, she had her professional ethics.

Reading the woman's mind, a glimmer of appreciation flashed through Ron's eyes. "Don't worry. It's not something that would embarrass you," he reassured her.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Eva nodded. "Okay."

They were sitting in a cafe and their cups were already empty, but the man showed no signs of opening his mouth.

Eva couldn't stand this kind of atmosphere, so she smiled politely and asked, "Sir, may I have your name?"

"Ron Jiang," he answered.

Eva narrowed her eyes. She had heard this name before. He was Rosy's distant cousin.

Chapter 3 I Want To Marry You

'He's the CEO of J Group and he's here to defend his cousin?' thought Eva.

The smile on her face faded and was replaced with aloofness. She leaned back, crossed her arms over her chest, raised her chin slightly, and announced, "Tell your cousin that I'm not interested in William anymore, and ask her to keep an eye on him, lest all her efforts be in vain."

Being jilted was humiliating for her and the experience had erased all the love for William. She had gotten drunk to wipe off the memories of the past three years.

Now that she was sober, she had recovered from her blind love for him.

"William? Who is he?" asked Ron as he recalled how this woman was drunk and crying last night. He understood what she meant and moved on.

"I want to marry you," he said bluntly, getting to the point, ignoring the cousin that Eva mentioned. Maybe it was some shameless person who claimed to be his cousin to show off.

Eva was so shocked that she started coughing. She almost choked on her saliva. The speech that she had prepared in her mind died on her lips.

Staring at his flawless face, she stuttered in disbelief, "Marry? Me?"

Did she hear it right? The most eligible bachelor in J City wanted to marry her? Wasn't it too fast? After all, they only met last night!

There didn't seem to be any romantic connection between them. It was not like she got drunk and lost her virginity to him, and he was forced to take responsibility. Why should they get married for no reason?

"Yes," confirmed the man, who was looking at her expressionlessly. He frowned, apparently dissatisfied with her reaction. "Have you forgotten what you said last night?"

Eva suddenly shivered. Although she was drunk last night, she was not so reckless as to blank out completely. She tried her best to recollect what had happened and a voice popped into her head. "How about we follow the latest trend and have a flash marriage?" she had asked him flirtatiously.

She realized it was she who had proposed the ridiculous idea first!

Eva couldn't help but feel guilty. When she looked into the man's deep eyes, she felt like she was sitting on needles. She squeezed out an awkward smile and said, "Well, I was drunk."

Was he going to force her to marry him as a punishment? It was too big a sacrifice for him to make! After being dumped by her boyfriend, she couldn't believe that a marriage proposal from the most eligible bachelor in J City would just fall into her lap!

"It's good that you still remember!" said Ron, nodding with satisfaction. He gave his assistant a look and the latter handed over a document. Ron took it and pushed it in front of Eva. "Sign the prenuptial agreement if there is no problem."

Was this really happening? Even the prenuptial agreement had been prepared in advance.

Eva looked through it carefully. There were a lot of terms in the agreement: no coercion in marriage; no restriction on each other's freedom; if one had a crush on someone, they would divorce...

After reading more than ten pages of the agreement, Eva nodded and confirmed, "There is no problem with the agreement." It was very professional and especially beneficial to her.

"Good, then sign it!"

Without giving it further thought, Eva signed it. When she looked up at Ron, she felt something was wrong. "Mr. Jiang, I..."

'Wait a minute! No problem? It is a big problem!

Am I still drunk? Why did I sign it so easily?' screamed a voice in her head.

It was the wrong time, the wrong occasion, and the wrong way to get married. Why did she sell herself out impetuously? She was behaving like a brainless woman!

"Call me Ron," he interjected. "Have you brought your residence booklet?"

"What? Yes," Eva replied subconsciously. She was supposed to marry William yesterday so she was still carrying her ID card and residence booklet along with her.

"Okay, let's go." Ron stood up and walked out.

Eva didn't realize that he had been leading her around by the nose.

After getting in the car, Eva wondered how she could explain her abnormal behavior to Ron, but she couldn't even convince herself with the lame excuses that she came up.

Standing at the gate of the Civil Affairs Bureau, all the words she had prepared mentally were stuck in her throat.

Eva followed him around in a daze, taking photos, signing, swearing, and obtaining the marriage licenses.

Eva looked at the photo on the marriage license and couldn't believe what she had just done.

Was she Mrs. Jiang now?

Yesterday, she was a heartbroken drunk, who was betrayed by her boyfriend and bestie, and today, she became the wife of the CEO of J Group.

'Am I in a dream?' she wondered.

Looking at the stunned woman beside him, Ron's heart melted a little. He turned away feeling uneasy and asked expressionlessly, "Where do you live? Let's go and get your luggage."

This was one of the terms of the agreement. The couple must live together. The corners of Eva's mouth twitched. Still in a trance, she gave him the address. She was on a pirate ship now!

The driver drove the car to her address and both of them got out of the car outside her apartment. Ron instructed the bodyguards to stay there and accompanied Eva to her apartment.

In her apartment, Eva hesitated to pack. Seeing that Ron was about to carry her bags, she quickly stopped him. "No, no, no. I don't have that many things. I can do it alone," she urged.

She couldn't possibly ask a CEO to help her carry her luggage! What if others knew it? They would tear her up!

However, to her surprise, Ron frowned with a strange look in his eyes and said unhappily, "Are you doubting my role as a husband, Mrs. Jiang?"

If he stood aside and watched his wife carrying so many things, what would others think of him? Even if it was just a contractual marriage, there was absolutely no reason to treat her harshly.

As he spoke, he pushed away Eva's hand, picked up two huge suitcases, and pushed the door open to go downstairs.

Eva's eyes got wet as she watched the scene. It warmed her heart.

Perhaps it was because she was an orphan, she had to shoulder everything alone. Even when she was with William, she had never relied on him. Although William was a big talker, he was more of a dwarf when it came to action.

As they carried her luggage downstairs, Eva received a phone call from Hilary. For some reason, Eva felt a little guilty. She walked away from Ron to answer the phone. The girl on the other end of the phone said excitedly, "Eva, I've got earth-shattering good news! Adela's murderer has been found. It's Ron Jiang!"
