The Blackwoods are the most powerful families in Monroe County, Canada. Their wealth didn't happen overnight; it all began with George Blackwood.
He started out as a mechanic in the early 1980s, coming from a modest background, though his parents died when he was very young, before their death they made sure he never lacked anything, his mother Fiona Blackwood was a hairdresser and fashion designer, she was very beautiful, she was in a relationship with Garry Davidson, before found out that he was cheating, she broke up with him, a few months later she fell in love with Carter Blackwood a very handsome mechanic, but she didn't know she had taken in for Garry.
When she found out, it was very late, it was three months after her break up with Garry, she became terrified she didn't know how to tell Carter, so she decided to keep it to herself, Carter had no idea he was very happy that his girlfriend was not pregnant, a month later he proposed to her she gladly accepts after some months she gave birth To a very handsome boy, they named him George, they loved him so much.
Carter Blackwood, was not just a mechanic, he was a guru when it comes to fixing cars, he would buy car parts, and damaged cars, that no one believed would work again, and fix it with new parts, when George wa ten years old George he began to teach him a lot about cars, he literally thought George everything he knew about cars.
George was a very fast learner, he learnt absolutely everything everyday his father would bring an abandoned damaged car he would ask his son to fix it without his supervision, George fixed it perfectly well when his father saw this he was so proud of his son, though they were an average family they never went hungry.
One night, George and his parents had just finished watching movies at the cinema on their way home, his dad lost control of the car, and a heavy wind similar to an earthquake was blowing, a lot of cars were scattering on the road, some people had already given up the ghost.
"George! George! How many times did I call, you need to listen now! I don't think we are going to survive this! I will let you out of the window
for your own good! And make sure you have a strong and firm control over your legs when I do"! His mother yelled as treats rolled down to her cheeks.
"No mum! I won't do this! Pls dad! No, I don't want to leave you both here please! No!" George pleaded with them.
"Please listen to your mother
son! We are not going to survive this! But you can! You're small, you have the advantage!" His dad yelled.
"Please mom! Please dad! I'm begging you!" George yelled. His mom gently lifted him up and struggled to open the car window as she gently threw him out. As George landed on the floor he hurriedly stood up, as he watched his mom waved her hands from the window of the car, suddenly a big train out of nowhere crushed his parent's car.
George stood there, as tears rolled down from his eyes. He hurriedly left the scene and retired to a mechanic shop nearby
Then a man named Higgs the Mechanic sighted him from a distance he hurriedly rushed to him and asked curiously.
"Hey kid, what's wrong?" Mr Higgs, asked the poor boy.
George didn't reply, he just stood there as tears rolled down from his eyes.
"Wait a minute you survived the hurricane? I'm sorry if you lost anyone I understand how you feel son, come with me." He whispered. George gently followed him. The man took George to his house, gave him food and new clothes, and asked George to follow him to his shop.
Each day George came to his shop, he would pick up tools and fix cars by himself without being asked to do so.
When Mr. Higgs discovered that he didn't hesitate to employ George, everyone at his mechanic loved George especially customers because of his humility and diligent spirit, this made Mr Higgs very much Happy.
George worked at the mechanic till he was twenty five years of age, he swore to keep his father's legacy going no matter what.
One morning, Mr Higgs came to supervise his work; he couldn't believe his eyes, George had already fixed up to ten cars and six motorcycles single handedly.
"you're doing a great job, I can't believe you fixed all these damaged cars, and motorcycles that arrived yesterday you fixed them single handedly! you all should learn from Blackwood he's a natural" Mr. Higgs praised George.
Thanks boss! he yelled, the others stared at him enviously. After a few minutes more people brought their damaged cars to the mechanic shop.
George gently scanned them and deciphered the problem of each of the cars. It was like he studied cars. He was very talented and his manner of approach towards customers preceded him.
His charming voice and good looks also paved the way for him. The ladies who brought cars to the shop couldn't resist him because he was too handsome.
George worked at the Mr Higgs's Mechanic shop for more two years, before being let go. To keep his family business going He used all his savings he acquired from the mechanic shop to buy his own a shop.
A small mechanic shop where he started building cars from scratch he began to pick up abandoned vehicles like cars and motorcycles he would gently buy materials with the little salary he got from his job at a restaurant and fix the vehicles.
One afternoon an old man arrived at his shop. George became very worried could this be trouble knocking at his door he thought to himself.
George was very worried, he just froze, staring at the old man, suddenly he had a flashback. He was sitting in their dining room, his father was in the kitchen making pancakes. George couldn't resist the aroma coming from the kitchen. He couldn't wait for the pancakes to be ready, he couldn't wait to hear his father's voice.
"Son, the pancake is ready! I will be there in a jiffy!" his father yelled from the kitchen. The excitement he gets whenever he hears his father's voice, especially when he says food is ready, hits differently.
His father gently dropped the pancake on the table. While his mother prepared the waffles, he gently fed him the pancakes, as they waited for his mother to finish preparing the waffles.
Night was already close. Immediately, his mom was done with the waffles, his dad's phone rang, and he picked it up. It was Geoffrey, his friend, who was calling.
"The movie Lawrence of Arabia, which is one of the 1960s classic movies, will be showing live at the cinema tonight. I hope you'll be coming with your wife and son!" Geoffrey's voice yelled from the phone.
"Yes, of course, you know I've been waiting for that movie! "Give me some time, we'll be there soon!" His dad yelled and hung up.
"Buddy, we're leaving for the cinema. I guess your waffles will have to wait"! His father yelled.
"Dad please! Please, I'm begging you! You know how I love waffles! Pls let me at least take a few bites!" He pleaded with his father in a loud voice.
"OK son, but be fast about it!" Mr Carter yelled.
Then his mother gently took out the waffles from the kitchen and placed them on the dining table.
"Yummy! My favorite!" George yelled as he dragged it from his mother's hands, and put one into his mouth.
"Table manners, son! Have you forgotten about that? You don't rush food like that so it doesn't choke you", Fiona yelled at her son.
"I'm sorry mum, I just can't control my appetite for waffles!" George yelled.
As George gently started to eat the waffles, his father tapped him and whispered.
"Buddy, we don't have much time, the movie will begin soon!" Mr Carter yelled.
"Please honey, be patient. "He'll soon be done." Fiona pleaded with her husband, then the flashback was interrupted as the old man tapped George's shoulder.
"Are you OK George?" he asked curiously. George didn't reply, he just started talking to himself very loudly.
"Oh, I wish my dad would not have gone to that cinema that day, they would have been alive today. I just wished they would let me go die with them! I wish they didn't let me go!"
"Now I am all alone in this miserable world. Is this the life that they wanted for me?"
Struggling in the Canadian streets, not sure of my breakfast, dinner or meal, but pretty sure that I would see garbage food like sausages, bread, bones with little meat.
I'm barely surviving. I asked myself again, why did they spare my life? They should have let me die with them. At least, I would have escaped this miserable life.
I think they sacrificed themselves and let me survive for a purpose and until that purpose is fulfilled I won't rest. He thought to himself.
Mr. Garry tapped him again. "Are you OK, son? Who would have been alive today? What are you talking about?"
"You look troubled, son. My name is
"Garry, what's your name?"
"I'm George Blackwood. This is my mechanic's shop. What can we do for you today?"
"Wow, it's nice to meet you, George Blackwood. I just need a favor from you. I'll be going to a wedding in two days, but I have a problem. My car has serious issues. I've gone to several mechanics each time they fix it. I wouldn't use it for up to a day; it'll become worse than it was before. I heard about you through a customer, and she said" You're good at what you do, so I decided to come see you for myself", the old man whispered.
"You've come to the right place, can I see the car?" George whispered with ease of mind.
"Come with me", the old man whispered.
He gently followed the old man outside as he saw the car. He moved closer to it and scanned the vehicle. He wanted to say something but he hesitated.
This troubled the old man, so he asked curiously, "What's wrong with it?"
"Sir, the car is so damaged beyond repair. It'll take three days to fix it," George replied.
"Oh no! I don't have that long! The wedding is in two days. "I need to fix it as fast as possible!" the old man yelled.
You're in good hands sir, you don't have to worry, I'll lend you one of my cars. "You can use it for the wedding, you can use it for other purposes till I'm done fixing yours," George whispered.
When the old man heard this, he was so happy. "Wow, thanks a lot, you're a lifesaver."
You're welcome, let me go get a car for you. He gently goes into his garage and picks up one of the cars he built and drives it out.
"Here are the car keys sir," George whispered, telling the old man that the world is indeed small, and life is so unpredictable! He yelled.keys. The old man collects them and smiles for a minute and drives away.
As the car sped away into the air. George gently walked away as he was walking. He saw something on the floor, and he gently picked it up.
It was a business card. An inscription was boldly written on the card. The current CEO of Gary Motor company, George, almost had a heart attack; he couldn't breathe well when he saw this.
"Wow, the world is too small!" he yelled.
George Blackwood, stood there speechless and confused as he stared at the card with his eyes glued to it.
"The world is indeed small, and life is so unpredictable!" He yelled.
Kevin, one of his staff, walked up to George and yelled.
"That's not everything sir, that face looked very familiar. I've seen him in the Canadian billboard before! He's the current senator of Canada and a very wealthy business man but he keeps a low profile!"
"wow! So what you're saying is that I just helped a politician, not just that a businessman too and a multimillionaire! I love his humility. It takes nothing to be humble because whatever we think we've acquired can't be measured to the wealth of Solomon in the Bible yet he humbled himself. I'm so thrilled!" George yelled excitedly.
"Sir, you should be very happy because the senator doesn't just show up like that, endangering himself. He must have heard something enticing from one of your customers that made him show up like that! I'm proud to be your worker, you're one of the most humble people I've ever met. I admire your craft so much your diligence and perseverance is evident in the way you build cars from the scratch!" Kevin praised his boss.
"Wow, all these compliments! for me but I've done absolutely nothing. I'm just doing the best I can do!" George yelled.
"you're so humble! unlike other people that raise themselves to high esteem for all they've achieved. you are just so meek that's more reason why the senator chose to come to our mechanic shop he saw qualities in you that rare people possess! You're the best boss!" Kevin praised him once more.
"Kevin, please stop calling me boss! I'm not that older than you, call me George please." He urged Kevin.
"Ok George lest I forget we are almost done fixing the old man's car. I'll go round it up soon also we have more than thirty scrap cars we need to build.
"Oh yes, that's true, thanks for reminding me! go round it up because he'll be back in three days time. Then gently go get one of those cars and let me begin my work!"
Kevin and ten other workers rushed to get the car parts George gently put everything together starting with the glass window, tyres and engine it took him days to finish it up he did the same for the rest of the cars after he was done he now had up to hundred cars he built by himself he began to his name George BlackWood Motors on each of these cars he didn't want to sell any of them for the meantime rather he would lend it to people need.
After three days, one early morning three cars drove into George's mechanic shop. George lived in his shop because he didn't have enough money to pay rent at his apartment. He was still fast asleep that morning even when the cars drove in.
But, the sound of the cars was so loud that it woke him up. So he gently got up from his bed and as he got out of his room he struggled to see the cars with his sleepy eyes. Someone waved at him from the windows of one of the cars he could barely see the person.
He gently took a cup of water and displayed it on his face. He could see the person clearly now , it was the old man Mr Garry.
"Welcome back sir, I hope my car was of good service to you? and how was the wedding? I hope everything went well?" George asked him curiously.
My son, I'm so grateful for your help! Your car was fantastic! The engine is extraordinarily superb. I know one of two about cars and what I discovered was that you took your time to build this car. I love the product. Did you build it yourself? the old man asked curiously.
Yes I did, initially it was an abandoned car, no one wanted to use it any longer. I bought it and rebuilt it by changing the entire car. Starting from the engine down to the tires, I buy new glasses, windows and other car parts for it. It's good as new! George Blackwood yelled.
"Let me explain something to you about how these things work. you're so talented! I need to advise you on something! It's very important to avoid putting your hard work in jeopardy."
He gently observed the other cars . "oh I see you have successfully established an identity by putting your name on your products. That's branding, which is the first step. There are other steps you have to follow as an entrepreneur. You lended me your car, unknowingly you had no idea that you were risking your business because you haven't registered the name of your company and logo as a trademark to protect your identity. The car you gave me had no name, which was highly risky so to protect your enterprise. I registered it under my company to prevent your company from being targeted. I have seen your potential and I will help you achieve your goals to have shown me qualities of a great business man. though I saw flaws, which is normal because no man is
an island, no man is beyond mistakes congratulations Son!" Mr Garry praised him.
When George heard this he just stood there speechless and tears rolled down from his eyes down to his cheeks. his workers all yelled "Wow amazing! "they all cheered "congratulations Boss you deserve it."
I don't understand sir! What are you talking about! I'm just a mechanic! I'm Lost here! George yelled.
"When I heard about you from a customer he spoke so highly of you. Your former boss also recommended you to me. He spoke very highly of you and also your humility and the way you act around others attracted me to you!" Mr Garry explained.
George couldn't talk again, he didn't know what to say or did he just stood there clueless staring at the old man.
