Will she survive the truth, or will it destroy everything she's known?

Chapter 1 The Shattered Calm

Celestine Hazel had always found comfort in the predictability of her life. The warm, golden afternoons spent in the garden of their grand family estate, her father's reassuring presence at the dinner table, the way Ronald Brown's laugh made her feel like the world was perfectly aligned. Everything was right. Or at least, that's what she though

That night, though, something had felt off. She couldn't explain it. She was driving home from her routine dinner date with Ronald-he was always so attentive, so careful with her, like he knew how fragile the world she lived in could be. The sky had been a brilliant shade of indigo, the air still and cool, a perfect evening for a drive.

But as the headlights of her car sliced through the mist rising along the road that led to their neighborhood, Celestine noticed a black SUV trailing her too closely. It didn't feel like coincidence. She pressed the accelerator, her heart picking up its pace. The car behind her matched her speed exactly, its shadowy figure a constant presence in the rearview mirror.

Her breath quickened. Who would be following her at this hour? She gripped the wheel, trying to steady her nerves. She knew this road well. The towering trees on either side blurred as she pushed faster, but the SUV didn't waver. It stuck to her, closer now than ever

And then, the worst part: the eerie feeling that whoever was driving that car knew exactly who she was. She could feel it. Her hands tightened on the steering wheel as if willing the world to stop, to give her an answer, to make the night less menacing.

Before she had time to react, the SUV swerved and pulled alongside her, cutting her off. Celestine's breath caught in her throat as the window on the passenger side rolled down, revealing a man she recognized-John, the neighbor who always seemed a little too familiar with her family.

"Get in the car, Celestine," he said, his voice low, urgent.

Her pulse hammered in her chest. "What the hell are you doing? Leave me alone!"

But John didn't retreat. He leaned forward, eyes narrowing in a way that made her stomach twist with unease.

It happened too quickly. Another figure appeared from the shadows-Ronald. His hand was steady, holding a gun, its barrel gleaming in the dim light. Before Celestine could process what was happening, the loud crack of gunfire shattered the silence of the night. John staggered back, falling to the ground, clutching his side.

Get in the car, Celestine. We need to go." Ronald's voice was calm, but there was something about the way his eyes flickered-like he was as shaken as she was.

"Ronald!" Celestine gasped, unable to grasp what was happening. "What... what is this? What is going on?"

Ronald glanced at her, his face pale, strained. "I didn't want this, Celestine. I never wanted you to find out, but it's too late now. Too much has already happened." He motioned for her to get in, and despite every instinct screaming to run, she followed him.

The car sped off, the haunting image of John on the ground still burned into her mind.

Chapter 2 The hidden Legacy

The following days passed in a blur of confusion and fear. Ronald was distant, offering brief explanations, but nothing made sense. The truth was a jagged shard of glass in Celestine's mind, something she couldn't pull away from. The more she tried to understand, the less she understood. Her perfect life-the one she had so carefully constructed around the safety of her father's name and her love for Ronald-began to unravel.

Your father's involved with something much darker than you know," Ronald admitted one evening, his tone heavy. "There are forces at play that you don't understand, Celestine. They're not just after money. It's... it's bigger than that. And they've been after your family for a long time."

"What do you mean?" Celestine's voice trembled, and her breath quickened. She had always thought of her father as a businessman, a man of integrity who had built everything they had from the ground up. This-this didn't fit.

Ronald leaned back, his fingers gripping the steering wheel tightly. "John? He's part of a syndicate. Your father didn't just build his empire with hard work. He made a deal-a deal with people who don't care about anything but power."

Celestine's mind reeled. She opened her mouth to speak, but the words tangled up in her throat. "No... you're lying. My father wouldn't-"

But Ronald cut her off. "I wish I was lying. But you need to understand-your father didn't just make his money from business deals. He's been involved in illegal activities, dark ones that have nothing to do with the company he built. The money? It's all tainted."

As the pieces fell into place, Celestine felt herself becoming a stranger in her own life. The world she had trusted, the one she had loved, was suddenly a house of cards. And the worst part? She didn't know if Ronald was telling the truth-or if he was simply trying to protect her from a truth too dark to face

Chapter 3 Caroline's Return

It was on one of those nights, after her father had gone quiet and distant once more, that a knock on the door pulled Celestine from her thoughts. When she opened it, her heart stopped. Caroline, her estranged aunt-whom she hadn't seen in years-stood there, her clothes disheveled and her face drawn with exhaustion.

"You need to listen to me, Celestine," Caroline said, breathless and wide-eyed. "It's worse than you know. Your father... he's deep in this. Too deep."Celestine couldn't find her voice at first. It was as if everything around her had turned to smoke, evaporating into something unrecognizable. "Aunt Caroline... What do you mean?"

Caroline's eyes flickered nervously toward the street, as if expecting someone to be lurking in the shadows. "I didn't want to tell you, but your mother-she was part of something bigger. She wasn't just a housewife, Celestine. She was involved with an underground society that worked to stop this syndicate. She was trying to stop your father from going down this path, but she... she didn't make it."

Her aunt's words were a gut punch. Celestine's chest tightened, and she felt the ground beneath her slip away. "No... You're wrong. You have to be."

Caroline shook her head, her expression grave. "Your father wasn't the man you think he was. And now, the syndicate's after you too."

The truth settled like a weight on Celestine's shoulders. Her mother hadn't just died by accident. She'd been killed-taken out by the very people who now controlled her family's fate.
