Z City was still bustling in the night. Kate Luo hastily walked through the evening crowd with a mobile phone in one hand and a handbag in the other, looking impatient. She pressed her phone against her ear, dreading the voice on the line of the other end.
"Kate, have you arrived at the cafe? Have you met Brain Li?" An excited middle-aged woman's voice sounded from the line.
"I'm almost there, Mom. I'll call you later, okay?" Kate Luo replied perfunctorily.
"Please don't mess up again, dear. Brain is a good man. Be at your best appearance and behavior when you see him..." Beep! Beep! Beep!
Before her mother could finish speaking, Kate Luo hung up and stuffed her phone in her bag. Then she exhaled softly.
She really did not understand why her mother was so keen on getting her to go on blind dates. She was not exactly in a rush to get married.
Despite her thoughts, she quickened her pace. The sooner she got this over with, the sooner she could go home.
A few minutes later, Kate Luo arrived at the Moon Cafe.
As soon as she entered the shop, she started searching for a man named Brian Li. She did not even know what he looked like, so she had to approach men who were alone at their tables.
"Hey, are you Brian Li?" Kate Luo saw a man who seemed to be waiting for someone, so she greeted him. She stood by his table and looked down at him.
When the man looked up at her, Kate Luo felt her heart flutter. She did not expect that her date would have such stunning good looks. He had a face that could have been chiseled out of marble and dark eyes that went deep. Kate Luo could only blink.
But the man had one imperfection. His eyes might go deep, but they were emotionless. His demeanor also exuded a unique coldness that Kate Luo had never felt in another person before. It made her shiver a little.
The man nodded slightly, his icy, godlike face looking like a Renaissance bust.
'Mom, where on earth did you find such a man?' Kate Luo thought. The men she had gone on blind dates with previously could not hold a candle to this beautiful yet aloof stranger.
"Hello, my name is Kate Luo. I'm your blind date. Look, I'm just going to be honest with you. I'm looking for someone to fake marry. We'll be husband and wife in front of everyone, but we'll be strangers to each other when no one's around. What do you think?" Kate Luo asked straightforwardly.
At her words, a hint of doubt flashed through the man's eyes.
"I'm not forcing you to do it. I just want to know if you're up for it," Kate Luo added.
It was she who was standing over him, but the man's straight posture and raised head completely suppressed her momentum. Under his strong and indifferent stare, Kate Luo could not help shrinking. She also found her voice softening a little. The man had a powerful presence.
"Okay. I agree," Brian Li finally replied nonchalantly.
When Kate Luo heard his answer, she heaved a big sigh of relief and casually said, "Finally! Someone who's game!"
She had pitched this proposal to many men before, but all of them recoiled. They thought that she might get a screw loose.
Well, she was not insane. She just wanted to get her mother off her case without actually getting married.
"When are you going to marry me? Oh, how demanding of me. I'm sorry. I'll just give you my phone number, and you call me when you decide." As she spoke, Kate Luo took out her phone from her bag, pulled up her own phone number, and read it to Brian Li.
Seeing that Brian Li took note of her number, Kate Luo turned around and left with the words, "See you again soon."
As Brian Li looked at Kate Luo's back, a smile spread across his face.
"Boss, Miss Chen is here." His assistant leaned in and spoke softly in his ear.
As soon as his assistant finished his words, a sexy and seductive woman walked toward Brian Li.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Brian." The woman's coquettish voice could capture even the attention of the most indifferent men.
"I'm sorry, too, Miss Chen, but I've just gotten engaged. I hope you find your own happiness," Brian Li replied in a cold but polite tone.
Then, he left without looking at her face.
Miss Chen was left shocked and then regretful. She deliberately made Brian Li wait for her as a test. She thought that if he waited, it would mean that he was truly interested in her. How could he be engaged in such a short period of time?
Kate Luo did not head back to her mother's home. She just called her mother and briefly reported what happened, which she exaggerated. She told her that she fell in love with Brian Li at first sight and was now so absorbed with him.
After speaking with her mother, Kate Luo finally felt relieved. A gentle smile lit up her face as she made her way to the Faraway Community.
The Faraway Community was located in the outskirts of Z City. It was relatively remote from the downtown, and life there was simple and quiet. Kate Luo liked it there very much.
When she arrived at her house, she found Sherry Xia waiting for her at the door.
"What are you doing here, Sherry? Why didn't you wait for me inside?" Kate Luo asked in a pampering tone.
The lovely and gentle girl was standing quietly at the door, looking at her with a smile. She had long, curly hair and a round, delicate face. Kate Luo always thought that she looked like a cute, life-sized Barbie doll.
"I finally succeeded in my blind date today. I met a man, and he agreed to be my nominal husband." Kate Luo opened the door to her house, and she and Sherry Xia went inside hand in hand.
A smile tugged at the corner of Sherry Xia's mouth as she listened to the other girl.
"Hey, didn't you hear what I just said? Aren't you happy for me?" Kate Luo laughed.
Taking a glance at Kate Luo, Sherry Xia still remained quiet.
After they went into the house, Kate Luo went straight to the kitchen and beamed, "What do we have for supper tonight?"
"Your favorite. Fried chicken legs, potato stewed chicken, braised pork ribs with brown sauce, fried meat with mushroom, fried eggs with tomato..." Sherry Xia started enumerating the dishes one by one.
"Oh, I love you so much, Sherry! These are all my favorite! Ha-ha! Ahem!" Kate Luo was so excited that she picked up a chicken leg and began to eat. She almost choked on it because she ate it in a hurry.
"Take it easy now. No one's going to take your food away." Looking at Kate Luo who was now staring hungrily at everything on the table, Sherry Xia shook her head.
Meanwhile, Kate Luo giggled as she ate.
The cold wind was blowing strongly outside, but the house was warm because of all the appetizing food.
The next day, Kate Luo was awakened by her ringing phone. She irritably rolled over and picked it up from the nightstand. Rubbing her eyes, she looked at the caller ID. It was an unregistered number.
Kate Luo decided to ignore the call, thinking that it must be someone who dialed the wrong number. She declined the call and went back to sleep.
After a few minutes, the phone rang again. Kate Luo started to have a bad feeling. She picked up her phone and saw the same unregistered number.
Her sixth sense told her that this call was meant to be for her.
"Hello, who's this?" Kate Luo answered the phone.
"Grab your documents. We will register for marriage today." A cold male voice came through from the other end of the line. There was a hint of dissatisfaction in the tone.
Kate Luo took a few seconds to realize that it was the man she met last night. He sounded urgent, which meant that he was taking her offer seriously. She jumped out of bed. She needed him to put on an act in front of her mother. She would worry about the other things that could pop up later.
"Okay. I'll see you at the Moon Cafe," Kate Luo answered straightforwardly.
She headed to the bathroom at once to wash up and get dressed. She did not see Sherry Xia walk out of her bedroom until she was done.
"Are you seriously going to marry a guy you just met?" Sherry Xia asked in a soft voice, rubbing her eyes.
"Yes, but it's just for show. It won't be a real marriage," Kate Luo uttered, smiling and patting the other girl on the forehead.
"All right. Take care then." Sherry Xia smiled slightly and then gave Kate Luo a hug before she left.
After saying goodbye to Sherry Xia, Kate Luo hailed a taxi to the Moon Cafe.
The moment she stepped out of the taxi, she immediately saw Brian Li quietly sitting in the same seat. He was fiddling with his coffee cup with his slender fingers and glancing around. His cold face had not changed at all, and he actively ignored every female in close proximity.
Had he been waiting for a long time? The thought made Kate Luo's heart sink. She quickened her pace.
She did not like making others wait for her. Although she did not like going on blind dates either, under normal circumstances, she did not allow herself to be tardy.
She arrived early yesterday, but Brian Li was already there waiting for her. It would be embarrassing to repeat that now.
"Hi, Mr. Li. Sorry to keep you waiting." Kate Luo greeted him politely.
Brian Li looked up at her and then stood up while saying, "Let's go."
Of course Kate Luo knew where they were going, but she could not help feeling astonished by the man's abrupt demeanor. She had been looking for a man who could feign marriage with her. In this way, she could not only fulfill her mother's wish but also continue to live her single and unrestrained life.
The man told her again, "Let's go."
She hesitated.
Marriage was one of the most important moments in a woman's life. Every woman dreamed of wearing a snow-white wedding dress, standing in front of an altar with the man she loved, and receiving God's blessing.
When Kate Luo was a young girl, she indeed dreamed of that moment.
But when her third stepfather disappeared, her dream was completely shattered. Since then, men for her were all fickle, greedy, and lascivious.
Instead of waiting for her to move, Brian Li turned around and headed out of the cafe.
Seeing this, Kate Luo followed him immediately. She was still immersed in her inexplicable mood that she had not noticed that Brian Li had suddenly stopped walking.
She bumped into Brian Li's solid back. Kate Luo immediately woke up and put a hand over her forehead, which barked at the impact. The man was like a stone wall.
He should have given her some sort of warning before stopping. Kate Luo was indignant, but in order to keep her polite and virtuous appearance, she remained silent.
It was then that she realized that Brian Li was so tall. She was already in high heels, but it did not make that much difference. She just stood up a bit to his shoulders. He was wearing a black Italian handmade suit, which fit perfectly on his broad shoulders and straight back. He completely blocked the sunlight from her.
Standing behind him, she did not need an umbrella anymore.
While Kate Luo was lost in her own thoughts, Brian Li had already gotten in the driver's seat of his car. He frowned at Kate Luo, who was still standing outside. He said in a low voice, "Get in the car."
His tone was full of impatience.
Kate approached the car slowly and carefully got in. The leather passenger seat felt divine against her back and skin.
And the car looked new and high end. Was she sitting next to a rich man?
Kate was a little surprised, but soon she came back to her senses. She took out a crumpled piece of paper from her bag and spread it out. "By the way, we have to make an agreement before we get married. I wrote this. Read it and point out anything you think is unreasonable."
With that, she handed the paper to Brian who was driving.
Brian took it and glanced at the paper.
Although the piece of paper looked battered, the handwriting on it was good and neat.
The traffic light turned red, and Brian slowly pulled the car to a stop. He then read through it and found the agreement to be reasonable enough. It was good that Kate bothered to write up an agreement before they got hitched. With it, they would be able to avoid irreparable problems in the future.
"If there's no problem, we can sign it before we apply for the marriage certificate." Kate pointed at the blank line on the paper opposite her name, which she had already signed.
Then Kate handed him a pen she had prepared.
Her every move was so smooth that it seemed that she had done this tens of thousands of times before.
Brian took the pen and signed his name. Then, he asked casually, "When did you write this agreement?"
"Two years ago," Kate answered without hesitation. After a moment, she realized that her straight answer might have made her look a little desperate, so she quickly saved face, smiled, and added, "I just like practicing my handwriting when I'm bored."
When Brian finished signing his name, he handed the paper and pen back to Kate and fixed his dark eyes on her. He did not say anything. He just watched her carefully and curiously.
Kate was stunned to see Brian's eyes up close. They were dark like the night before dawn. Looking at them, she immediately felt lost.
Unknown to Kate, Brian was trying to stare through her like an X-ray.
Feeling embarrassed by Brian's stare, Kate turned to look straight ahead. It was only then that she realized that her heart was pounding wildly against her ribcage, but she could not be sure if she was scared or simply nervous.
They drove in silence until they arrived at the local civil affairs bureau.
The procedure was very simple. They just signed their names and then got the red marriage certificate. Kate held it tightly in her hand. In that moment, she found herself in a trance. She really got married today.
Earlier, when Kate was about to sign her name, she felt an indescribable feeling that was all new to her. She just stared at the document for a long time. If Brian had not nudged her, she probably would not have come back to her senses.
Getting married was supposed to be the happiest moment in a woman's life, but Kate seemed to have experienced it very simply. She knew she was supposed to feel elated, but she did not feel anything remotely close. At this point, Kate was not sure if she felt nothing at all or everything at once. It was confusing.
Kate pinched her face and felt no pain. Then, she used a little more force.
"Ahhh!" Kate cried out in pain. She pinched her left cheek, but why did her right cheek hurt?
'Maybe... It's a ghost!' Kate froze and looked straight ahead. It was a warm day, but a gust of cold wind caressed her back.
'God, could there be a ghost in the civil affairs bureau like in the movies? But my right cheek doesn't feel cold.
Well, how could a ghost be warm?'
After thinking for a while, Kate finally mustered the courage and looked sideways. She saw that the man next to her, who was a head taller than her, was looking down at her with a faint sneer on his lips.
"Are you regretting it already?" Brian opened his thin lips and asked in a leisure voice, and his hand was still pinching her right cheek.
"Regretting what? Get your hand off me!" Kate hastily waved Brian's hand off her face. She pressed a palm against her cheek, still feeling his grip, and glared at him.
Hearing Kate's words, Brian withdrew his hand. As he turned around to leave, he smirked at her and said, "I hope you know what you're doing. Your being impetuous won't get us anywhere we'll relish to be in."
He spoke firmly, not allowing his new wife to refute.
Kate did not say anything because Brian was right. She really felt a little regret in her heart.
'You can do this! Don't be afraid!' Kate clenched her fists, feeling the burning desire in her heart. In order to be able to live happily with Sherry and get everybody to stop badgering her to get married, she would have to pay this small price.
While thinking, she caught up with Brian.
"I'm not on your way, and I'm sure you can find your way home on your own. I'll see you soon. Bye." Brian got in the car and slammed the door. He squinted at Kate who was about to open the passenger-side door. He spoke so casually that it hit a nerve in Kate.
Kate's hand on the door froze. She looked at her new husband who was sitting comfortably in the driver's seat and looking at her with an indifferent expression. Obviously, he was telling her to get lost.
"Okay. Take care." Kate took her hand back, squinted, and smiled sweetly. Her voice was as sweet as a bell, but it did not seem to affect Brian.
The man rolled up the window and gunned the engine. Then, he drove away. His car must either be new or well maintained. It did not make a sound as it sped away.
As soon as Brian left, Kate's smiling face twisted into an ugly frown. She furiously stared at his car, which was now a considerable distance away, and threw a crumpled piece of waste paper at it. Then, she sighed in exasperation.
Originally, Kate had a good impression of Brian, but now her good impression of him had dropped significantly. If this were an exam, she would only give him forty points, and that was not enough to pass.
"Miss?" While Kate was boiling with anger, a man approached her.
"What's the matter?" Kate was definitely not in the mood to deal with anyone right now. She glanced at the stranger who looked to be in his thirties.
"You're being ticketed because you littered just now. It's not allowed here." The man handed her a ticket. The words written there said that littering merited a one-hundred-dollar fine.
Caw! Caw! Caw!
The imaginary crows hovering overhead made her ears ring.
Kate left home in a hurry today, so she was not able to bring much money with her. Fortunately, she was able to pay the one-hundred-dollar fine after rummaging through her bag. As a result, she was left with absolutely no money and had no choice but to walk to work in her five-inch heels.
She had to be at work in the afternoon. After finally making it to the office, Kate felt her entire body burn, not just her legs and calves. It made her wonder why she kept walking around in high heels.
"Oh, finally! I thought you weren't going to show up today." Lora, her colleague, stared at her while she desperately held on to the office door for support. She struggled to catch her breath.
Not many people knew that Lora's real name was not Lora. Every time somebody asked about her real name, she just told how she liked the name "Lora" since she was a little girl. Everyone in the office simply called her Lora.
"Please help me, Lora." Kate raised her head and staggered forward, one hand braced against the wall for support and the other trembling and reaching to Lora.
Lora looked at Kate with contempt, but she still went and took her hand. She helped her walk to her work station.
As soon as her butt hit her comfortable office chair, Kate's whole body relaxed. She leaned her back on her chair and spread her tired legs in front of her. She honestly could not remember a time when her office chair felt so divine. In fact, she used to complain about it a lot.
"Why did you ask for a leave this morning?" Lora's desk was next to Kate's, so they always talked conveniently to each other.
Kate slowly turned her head to Lora and answered, "I went to register for marriage."
"Humph!" Lora snorted derisively. Obviously, she did not buy what Kate just said.
"Really? Is the world coming to an end then?" Lora smirked at Kate and waited for her answer.
'What is Lora saying? Does she mean that my chances of getting married are so slim that I can only get married if the world is ending? What kind of friend says that?'
Kate kept silent and just continued to relax on her chair. She met Lora in college. They were in the same class, but they were not familiar with each other that time.
They were somewhere between acquaintances and strangers.
Then, after finding themselves working in the same company, they had become good friends and had learned to rely on each other. Although Lora could be a little cocky and narcissistic, her loyalty was boundless, and Kate valued loyal friends.
However, with her calves feeling like they were burning from the inside out, Kate did not feel like explaining to Lora. Anyway, she was not lying. She really got married before showing up to work today.
"I heard that our CEO is devastatingly handsome." Without getting any reply from Kate, Lora decided to jump to her favorite piece of office gossip.
But Kate ignored her. They started working together two months ago. Since their first day in the company, Lora had been talking about Li Group's supposedly gorgeous CEO who was also one of the most eligible bachelors in Z City.
As time went by, Lora's information about Li Group's CEO grew not only suspiciously exaggerated but also awfully accurate down to his height and weight and his string of past girlfriends.
As Lora enthusiastically blabbed on about their boss, Kate kept both her ears open so that Lora's voice would just enter through one and exit through the other. She did not want to shut her friend down or give her the cold shoulder.
There was one time when Kate said something. She asked, "Lora, have you ever seen him?"
Lora's face then turned from ridiculously excited to frighteningly grim. Her body, which was almost waving and dancing, also stiffened. In the end, she just looked pitifully at Kate like a deflated beach ball.
The truth was that neither of them had ever seen the legendary CEO before. Since they were low-ranking employees in the company, they were not eligible to attend the annual staff meeting.
Legends could only be legends.
"Hello, hello! The director is here!"
Hearing the sudden announcement of the director's arrival, Kate immediately straightened up. She took out a piece of tissue and wiped her desk clean. She sat properly on her chair despite her leg muscles barking in protest.
The director clapped his hands, and all the staff in the office immediately looked up at him.
"The CEO may come to our branch today to oversee. Everyone, prepare yourself and expect for him."
At the director's instructions, all kinds of expressions were visible on everyone's face. Some of them were as excited as Lora, while most were serious. Naturally, others were just indifferent, including Kate.
Unfortunately, although the CEO would come to the company, it didn't mean that he would humble himself to their small office. They had been waiting the whole afternoon, but they didn't see even just the corner of the CEO's suit.
"Well, it seems that we aren't really destined to see the CEO," sighed Lora as she passed by Kate, lowering her head.
Kate had asked for a morning leave so that she could run some personal errands. As a newcomer to the workplace, she didn't dare to loaf around and had to finish her word before leaving. In the end, she could only watch her colleagues leave one by one.
Lora was so disappointed that she completely ignored Kate and walked out of the office like a ghost.
The narrow office suddenly became wide and spacious after the other people had left. Kate took a deep breath and began to work.
At about eight o'clock in the evening, she finally sorted out her documents. When she stood up and stretched her back, her phone rang. It was Sherry.
In a livelier mood, Kate picked up the phone and said, "Darling," while on her way out of the company. The night in Z City wasn't dark, but the surrounding was orange, illuminated by lights.
The warm wind blew over her soft, pretty face. Her hair was flying in the direction of the wind. The tight uniform set off her curvy figure, making her like a tempting goddess at night.
She didn't look like a lesbian at all, but this world was diverse. Kate was just a part of this world, and she became a lesbian. Though this characteristic wasn't that obvious.
"Well, I'm going home now. See you later." After these words, Kate hung up the phone with a sweet smile on her face.
She was a little bit more ecstatic after her conversation with Sherry. That night, the light in the company wasn't very bright because they wanted to save electricity.
On her way out, she accidentally bumped into something. It was her forehead that hit first.
She raised her head and saw a familiar face. "Eh, why are you here?" she exclaimed.
She recalled that she went to register for her marriage with this man this morning. The man threw her at the gate of the civil affairs bureau for a reason that he was not on her way. Then, she was punished by 100 dollars, and she had to walk to work because she didn't have a single penny with her.
From being excited, Kate's mood instantly changed to being irritated as soon as she thought of what had happened this morning. She looked up at Brian and smiled sarcastically, "What a coincidence! 'I'm not on your way!'"
Her tone was full of irony.
"You're working here?" Unaware of sarcasm in Kate's words, Brian asked her lightly.
"Yes, I am an employee of this company." Hearing this question, Kate squared her shoulders and put on a look of confidence.
Li's Group was famous in Z City, and the selection of employees was stringent. They were particular even when it came to choosing a sweep worker. But correspondingly, Li's Group was highly paid. Kate, such a common employee, could earn thousands of dollars every month.
There were two men in suits and leather shoes following Brian. They looked at Kate with a frown. One of them even wanted to step forward but was stopped by Brian's gesture.
"If you don't have anything else to say, I'm leaving now. Mr. Not-On-Your-Way." Kate was staring sternly at Brian. She didn't try to conceal her emotions even slightly. Her disgust and sarcasm were obvious on her face.
She was so disgusted that she wasn't in the mood to ask what his position was in this company. After that, she took three steps away from Brian, just like bypassing a pile of trash, and left.
"Boss, do you need us to deal with that woman?" The manager of the branch, standing behind Brian, had been in a cold sweat. His back was shivering, for he had never seen a woman who could be so rude to his boss.
"Just take it as nothing happened." The sound of Brian's voice came from the empty lobby of the company. With his voice, the atmosphere in the lobby was suddenly tensed that nobody dared to make a sound.
As she walked into the Faraway Community, Kate could see the white light of their apartment. Looking at the lights, she felt warm in her heart.
Kate quickened her pace.
At this time, Kate's mother called her. She answered it while walking.
"Hello, Mom. What's up?" asked Kate.
"Kate! If you didn't want to go on a blind date in the first place, you should've told me. What were you trying to imply by standing that man up? Didn't you say that you fell in love with each other at first sight? And you are going to get a marriage certificate? How could you lie to me?" Kate's mother shouted at the phone.
To not hurt her ear, Kate moved her cellphone a little bit away from her. She said impatiently, "When did I lie to you? We have gotten-"
"Gotten what? The matchmaker has called and blamed me why made that man wait for you the whole night!" Before Kate could finish her sentence, her mother, Mary Luo, raised her voice again.
Kate didn't know how to respond to that.
Didn't she go to see him last night? They had even registered for the marriage today. What was going on?
"But I went there yesterday," explained Kate.
"Are you still lying to me?" Mary Luo sneered.
"Mom, the man you're referring to is Brian Li, right? Am I right?" asked Kate. Suddenly, she felt uncertain.
"Who's Brian Li? Brian Li? I haven't met a man with that name before! Your blind date was Brain Li!" yelled Mary Luo in a loud voice again.
Kate's feet froze and she asked in confusion, "Mom, are you sure?"
"Wow, you even know how to pass the buck? I'm not that old to forget the right name!"
"I..." Kate hemmed and hawed. She didn't know what to say.
She got the wrong person! And other than that, they got married. How could she explain it to her mother?
If she told the truth, she wasn't sure whether her mother would scold or even punish her.
But how could she confess it indirectly?
Now, she didn't want her mother to know about her marriage at all. She just wanted to inform her mother that she was in a relationship. There was no need to feed her with so much information.
After hesitating for a while, Kate mustered up all her courage and burst into tears. "Mom, I'm sincerely sorry! It's my fault. I shouldn't have lost my way last night. I had to send an old woman who had an accident. She was so lonely that I chose to accompany her. I shouldn't have done those, so I wouldn't have missed Brain. The last thing I shouldn't do was lie to you just to cover up the things I did last night, which were innocently kind. I know you would blame me for being stupid because I insisted on sending an injured stranger to the hospital. You've told me to be more careful all the time. And that I don't have to be nice all the time. It's my fault!" cried Kate.
And her pathetic voice attracted many people's attention. Some people let out a shallow sigh.
Hearing that, Mary Luo was dumbfounded.
"Mom, I did another mistake. That old woman's son came to pick her up. We fell in love with each other at first sight. And he offered to drive me back home, which I gladly accepted." Kate stopped crying and said while sobbing a little.
"What? You let him drive you back home?" Mary Luo raised her voice.
"Well, he gave me money to get a cab, but I refused. I also refused when he directly gave me his bank card," said Kate.
The other side of the line remained silent for a moment. Then suddenly, a horrible laugh sounded. "Okay, my daughter, you've done too well! You can't accept his bank card. If you accepted it, people would think that you're greedy. He was testing you. You have to show that you're not interested in money. Just keep on fishing in the long term."
"Yes, Mom," Kate responded obediently at once.
During the two years of blind dates, Kate had already known what kind of a perfect son-in-law her mother wanted. For one thing, he must be rich because this could help Kate live a carefree life. For the other thing, his personality should guarantee that Kate wouldn't be abandoned after marriage.
After talking with her mother, Kate walked with ease. If she didn't wear a pair of high-heeled shoes, she might be dancing now.
But why was Brian in her company building a while ago? After her excitement, the scene of seeing Brian in the company emerged in her mind.
That was weird. Was Brian working for that company as well? It was possible. Otherwise, how could Brian have money to buy a high end car? Li's Group was nothing but rich. It was an established group which ranked first among the list of wealthiest corporation in Z City.
Well, she really didn't expect that Brian was her colleague. But fortunately, they were not in the same office, or it would be embarrassing.
However, Kate was still curious about something. That man was really handsome, but why had she never heard about him from Lora? She remembered that Lora said there was no good looking bachelor in Li's Group other than the CEO.
Or was Brian just wandering around?
Kate was thinking about it for a long time but couldn't figure out the answer. As she walked towards the doorway, she gradually forgot about it.
Her so-called home was just a tiny yet cozy apartment she rented with Sherry. To save money, they decided to live together after their graduation. In fact, Kate had never imagined what it would be like to be a lesbian. They just didn't want to be with any men, so they got along and became best friends.
Considering how intimate they could be, even in public, it was inevitable for people to not gossip about them.
When Kate went into their home, she instantly felt the warmth it could offer. That time, Sherry had already prepared their dinner. Before taking off her shoes, Kate quickly walked into the kitchen, putting her arms around Sherry's waist.
Subconsciously, Sherry struggled at first. However, when she turned around and saw that it was Kate, she turned into a submissive lady and let Kate hold her.
"You look so happy. Did you get married successfully?" Taking her apron off, Sherry turned around and gently smiled at Kate.
Kate nodded heavily and took out a marriage certificate from her bag. She grinned and replied, "Yes, I'm okay. I'm married now. Finally, Mom doesn't have to worry that I couldn't get married anymore."
