DANIELLE'S POV

"Okay ma'am here are your passports. Both copies. You are set and all done to go whenever you want." The attendant in charge handed me two neatly arranged copies of passport , beaming beautifully.

I smiled and retrieved them from her feeling extremely light-hearted. "Thank you." I muttered and examined them. I chuckled. This is really a dream come true. Who would have believed that a few moments ago, I was seated in her oh-help-me-God looking little apartment weeping due to unspoken pain. My stress and turmoils were really getting her so weak, it was still kinda hard to detect if this so-called miracle coming my way was actually genuine. I kept looking back at intervals from the passports in my hands back to see if I would be called back for a mistaken identity.

I walked out of the immigration department office completely blown away. I stood by the road watching as various expensive acquisitions paraded the entire place. I chuckled. Soon, I will be just like them. It won't take too long. I was giddy with a lot of excitement and wanted to go crazy. Yes. Really really crazy. Probably grip my hair and jump around the streets screaming. I thought of David and smiled. That kind wonderful boyfriend of mine will be so enormously thrilled to hear this. Our days of sweating and struggling for peanuts will be finally over. I took a deep breath trying to contend the extreme joy tearing at my insides. I have to go home now. I have to tell him the good news.

It's always been my dream. A dream that always gave me sleepless nights with relentless determination to prove my parents wrong and change their perspective about me.

My life right from the scratch has always been a tough one. It all seemed my entire lineage had been cursed with the absolute claws of wretchedness. My great grandparents and grandparents all suffered the same fate and have now passed the baton over to my parents.

But, I was an extremely determined and persevering girl. I had made up my mind at a young age that the turmoil my parents are going through will never get to my own children. I was determined to break the generational link at my own stop. It all had to end. I left my parents to be with my boyfriend at the age of sixteen to work out things for myself. He was always a good kind humble soul to me. Always motivating me and enlightening me to always go for the best. His advice and motivations placed the childish perspective into the little young mind of mine that he is definitely the right man for her.

Nothing could ever separate me from him. Not even my dimwitted hardened parents.

My parents kept giving me warning lectures on the man called David, but i was determined and thus to avoid my parents constant nagging, moved out with him.

Every warning sign given to me was useless. I was a very determined young lady and nothing would stop me from achieving her dreams.

I took out my phone and dialed his number. He picked it up on the first ring as always and I beamed coyly over the phone as though he could see me.

"Hello baby." I said cooing.

He chuckled over the phone probably wondering what l was up to this time.

"Hello sugar." He replied. "What's up?" He asked.

I beamed ecstatically on the phone. "The sky's up."

"..." He seemed to be taken off guard because he was silent all along. " Such a cunning little girl." He muttered and chuckled. "Alright. Serious mode on. What's the news?" He asked.

I looked at the passports in my hand with my eyes glittering. "I got the passports." I replied.

I heard him gasp over the phone and giggled. "What the..... This ain't a joke right?" David asked and my heart glowed with joy.

I chuckled. " Yes!!" I squealed. "Where are you? We need to celebrate this?" I said, looking for a cab.

He was silent again and I looked at the phone. "David. Are you there?"

He chuckled and sighed. "Didn't you leave me at home honey?" He asked.

"Oh." I muttered. " I'm sorry. I guess the happiness of this moment got the better of me. " I said with such a happy vibe that David laughed and I beamed.

"I'm happy to finally see that all your struggles are gradually paying off. I am so happy for you."

I blushed. " Aaaawnn. Thanks for your help though. I couldn't have done it without you. Hold on. I'll be home soon." I said and ended the call. I got to the main express and boarded a cab home.

When I got home, David was seated in the dimly lit little barely manageable sitting room in front of the little sized tube TV sipping some lemon tea with his feet crossed above the center desk. He's a real handsome well built smooth skinned man in his mid twenties. His features were often looked at by one as a gift from the gods even though he was really an unstable and struggling youth.

Ever since he met me, he kept telling me that he would be my main jolt to the world of riches and unspeakable wealth. Thus, I clung to him. He never ceases to call me a really beautiful, determined girl. He says my diligence and perseverance sometimes makes him feel ashamed and had himself tagged as an unintentional lazy youth. I always did my best to console him and we got along well.

He wasn't the kind to go through all the stress but had the zeal to. Being with me seemed to open his eyes a bit to the important facts of life of which one is; NO FOOD FOR A LAZY MAN.

I walked in through the squeaky little door leading from the outside to the sitting room and he turned Immediately beaming beautifully at me.

I smiled and beamed at him childishly displaying the passports.

He grinned and pulled me into a deep warm hug. "Hello baby." He said.

I giggled in his arms, extremely happy. David was thrilled. He looked so damn happy. "At least, I will finally shut the mouths of those silly friends of mine who taunt me every time saying you are up to no good."

I smiled and grinned at him

I was now exhausted from too much happiness and slumped into the little sofa.

"Wow!" I muttered. "This is the happiest day of my life."

David sat beside me cuddling me into his arms. I giggled.

"I'm so happy for you baby." He said with every sincerity in his heart.

I turned to him beaming and patted his nose playfully. "Don't say that. Be happy for us. Not me." I replied.

David chuckled. " But you obviously did all the hard work. All I did was sit here at home and murmur." He said and looked away forlornly. " I'm so stupid."

My smile died. sat up. "Hey no. Don't say that. It's not your fault you don't have anything to do."

He chuckled. " No. It's my fault. I'm supposed to be the one taking care of you Danielle. I'm supposed to be the one supplying your every need. But no. It's the other way round. I feel so insanely stupid. "

I chuckled deeply. I then held his cheeks and kissed him. "I don't want you ever feeling this way again or else I will not forgive you. I did this for us okay. Forget about what anyone else is saying. It's all about us and us alone okay? "

David stared at me for a while and smiled. "What in the heavens have I done to deserve such a rare beautiful gem like you?" He muttered and I blushed as he kissed my neck and pushed me back against the sofa. I laughed.

The early hours of the day didn't go by without David taking a walk as a gentleman towards his friends house with the good news walking with extreme confidence towards the door to their house. The sweet smell of riches filled the air as he padded his way towards the huge enormous building where they lived. He got to the house which all looked deserted like the earth had been lost. He walked to the too familiar mahogany made door to the apartment knocking relentlessly.

That was always his usual routine whenever he got there. His friends themselves were also pissed off with it. A growl was heard from within as he graced the door with his knuckles.

He chuckled and waited patiently as the door swung open to reveal the closest to him of them all, Steve, glaring at him.

"What the heck is your problem man?" He asked.

David laughed and slapped him against his shoulder. Steve shook his hand off furiously , still glaring at him. That had David laughing till his belly ached.

Moses, another of his friends stepped out with a towel wrapped around his waist staring at David like he was stupid.

"What the hell is wrong with this rascal?" He asked sarcastically.

Steve shrugged. " Dude's mad by the day." He replied.

David cleared his throat as soon as his laughter had subsided and he looked at them both.

"Whenever I tell you something, you believe me. It's begun guys." He said, extending his hands and turning around in princely glamor, smirking at them both.

They looked at each other with a grimace and turned back to him. "What's begun?" Steve asked.

David chuckled, glancing at them teasingly. Moses grew frustrated and scoffed walking back into the house. David laughed and held him, dragging him back.

"Chill Bro. What's itching you?" He said to glaring Moses who looked like he could kill him .

He chuckled.

Steve became exhausted.

"Alright alright. Sorry guys." David gave up teasing them. " By this time perhaps next week...." He paused and licked his lips sexily. "My baby girl and I will be out to Nova city. The city of my dreams. " He said dramatically.

Both Moses and Steve looked at him with no expression on their faces. They looked at each other and rolled their eyes, turning back into the house.

David frowned. This was quite not the reaction he expected.

He chuckled. "You guys don't believe me right?"

Moses scoffed. " Cut the stupidity , dude. Why do you keep dreaming..."

"Well. Nevermind." David cut him short. " Since you don't want to believe me. I actually came to see you guys just to inform you so if you don't see me, you will not be worried or angry with me but it seems it's all useless." He sighed and turned. " I'll be on my way."

He hadn't walked a few meters when he was called back by Steve.

"David, wait." He called. "Dude. Calm down, take it easy. We are not quarreling here are we? Come on. Come in with us, let's discuss this."

David corked an eyebrow examining him for a while. He shook his head and turned back to them.

They all walked into the large comfy sitting room while Moses began hurriedly packing sheets of clothings away from the floor stashing them away.

He looked up to see David staring at him with a smirk. "You will never change." He said.

Moses scoffed. "Those are Steve's clothes."

Steve: "..."

David laughed.

" That's not funny Moses. " Steve said, glaring at him.

Moses laughed, gripping his belly. David shielded his face with his hands chuckling deeply. These guys are.... something else.

DANIELLE'S POV

The cab stopped at my destination and I alighted giving the driver his fee. He thanked me and drove away. I watched the cab drive away and sighed deeply. I turned to the familiar. Oh-help-me-God looking cottage and sighed. How I have done everything within her power to avoid this place. I smiled remembering the past years of war and brawl between my parents over living with David. I chuckled. I'm here for good news anyway. If they refuse to listen to me because of the past, then so be it.

I walked up to the front porch and knocked slightly on the already weak door. The door creaked and slightly opened on its own accord before I could complete knocking. I rolled my eyes and looked in.

"Anyone home?" I asked. There was no response. I frowned and walked in shutting the door behind me. It however refused to budge and I had to struggle it close.

I looked up just as my younger sister sprinted into the little living room with a machete in her hand looking like she wanted to kill someone.

I jerked at the sight and squatted, screaming.

Nora paused and looked at me squatting on the ground.

She covered her mouth with her hand. "Oops." She muttered and walked up to me, dropping the machete.

"Danielle?" She muttered in a surprised tone and walked up to me.

I looked up and slowly got up glaring at Nora. "Are you silly? What were you doing with that?"

Nora chuckled. " I'm so sorry big sis. I thought you were a predator about to sneak in." She said and hugged me tightly. " I miss you so much. It's been a long while since you've visited."

I smiled and chuckled. " I've been busy, you know."

Nora rolled her eyes. " It wouldn't be that way if had just stayed with us. Rather than...... running off with Mr nobody who's even worse than dad." She mumbled the rest.

" What did you say?" I asked scrutinizing her.

Nora beamed saucily at me. " Nevermind. Come in. Daddy is waiting to hear who came." She said,

At the mention of that, my heart thumped. There goes. The moment has arrived.

I took a deep breath and followed Nora to the deeper portions of the house towards where the kitchen was. I examined the entire place shaking my head with contempt. There wasn't even a single show of improvement ever since I left. In fact, it seems the house was getting to the point of collapsing if care wasn't taken.

The condition left me so awestruck with grief. A sudden wave of strong determination flowed through me. I will definitely be the one to take them all out of here to a better apartment.

By the time Nora stopped, we were already at the kitchen door. Dad was seated on a long stool by the cooker watching and assisting their mum as she cooked the meal.

He looked up at me, probably sensing another presence apart from theirs.

I forced a smile at him. "Hello Dad." I said with a grin.

He looked at me for a while and smiled. But it was obvious it didn't reach his eyes.

"How are you Danielle?" He asked.

"I'm fine. How's business going?" I asked, taking a deep breath.

He shrugged. " As usual. Just the way you left it." He replied.

I sighed and turned to mum who was now standing upright wiping tiny beads of perspiration off her face.

"Hello mum."

She took a deep breath and examined me. I gulped. Well, I wasn't definitely expecting a warm welcome from her afterall. Among them all in the family,, she's the meanest.

That was a recitation I could never forget till thy kingdom come.

"So... " The mean ass woman began. " Why the sudden visit?" She asked rather harshly.

Dad interceded for me telling her to calm down.

"Take it easy Esther." He said. "This is not the way to handle this issue.

She scoffed and turned back to her cooking. "I don't care. Let her return back to the silly boyfriend who she thinks can fend for her."

He could only sigh and glance at me.

Nora was fidgeting beside me at the stern tone in her mother's voice even though she was not the one being talked to.

I knew this was the right time to break the news so I waited not saying a single word as mum talked and talked venting out all her frustration.

"I have a piece of news that will be valuable to us all. " I said.

Dad looked disinterested though as he scratched his neck yawning and took a cup of water from the top of the little fridge they managed. Mom scoffed. "What sort of trashy news do you have for us this time?" She asked.

" I'll be traveling to Nova city next week."

Dad nearly choked on the water he was drinking and spat out a large content of it onto the bare floor.

Mum looked confused not knowing if to react to the shocking news I just gave or the mess dad caused due to the shocking news I gave.

"Take care of your mess Joshua." She said frustrated and exasperated, turning to me. I made a move by picking up the nearby mop to help dad clean up the mess.

As soon as I had cleaned it all up, I returned the mop back to its position.

"What?!!!!!" Mom and dad both exclaimed, making both I and Nora jump.

I chuckled. "My goodness. Take it easy guys." I said.

Mum's face glowed. It wasn't the dull angered looking face that hunted me previously. I chuckled.

"How did it happen?" Dad asked.

I smiled. "It's nothing much. I was just lucky. It was a lottery. And I was so surprised I got it. So I had the opportunity to get two passports........." I trailed off and bit my tongue as soon as I said that.

Mom and dad didn't seem to notice that. Mum was the most excited. She squealed. I stared at her dumbstruck. Wasn't she the one who was furious with me.few minutes ago?

"So. Who are you getting the second passport for?" Mum suddenly asked and I knew I was doomed.

I bit my tongue for being such a silly idiot.

I chuckled nervously. "I've actually already processed both." I replied.

Dad just sat watching me not saying a thing.

Mum's eyes were wide and round with excitement. "Who did you get the second for?"

I scratched my head. "For David." I replied sharply and grinned.

Mum's ecstatic smile faded away. "What?" She muttered.

Dad also had his eyes widened with surprise. He suddenly looked furious.

"Are you out of your mind Danielle? Are you crazy?!!!" He yelled.

Oh boy. I gulped and stepped back as he got up.

"What were you thinking? Didn't you reason that you have a sister?" He asked.

I sighed. I knew they would definitely be angry about this but it wasn't my fault. The lottery wasn't just to go abroad and live. It was to work and the work required was David's speciality. A software engineer. I had really hoped that it could get to any for my parents but alas, it didn't. The other businesses stated they weren't something they could do and they knew it. I didn't just know how to explain this to them.

"It's for work, dad. I'm sorry. The job certification required was what David was good at. There was no way I could place any of you in. I tried."

" You didn't try hard enough!!! Why would you give it to that fool!!?" Mum yelled and my ear snapped.

DANIELLE'S POV

The fury raging within me at this moment was over sure. Everything else that was being said was like a slight mumble in my ears. I knew my parents hated David no doubt but that didn't give Mom the right to call him that. I was struggling with so much effort to control myself so I won't do something stupid.

As soon as mum had finished raining all the insults, i sighed and turned to them both.

"My mission here is fulfilled. I have nothing more to say. I'm returning home to get my things ready. We'll be off by next week. I promise you all one thing. I'm not going in vain. I'll try with the best of my efforts to make sure I take you all out of this position you are in. It's a promise from me to you. " I said and turned to Nora who was sulking behind me.

I sighed and placed my hand on her shoulder. "Believe me Nora i really wished there was a way to take you along. Infact, you were my most thought. I kept praying and hoping there would be option for schooling but alas, there wasn't. I wasn't happy about it. But I promise you that next time, I'll personally bring you all with me okay. " I said looking at them all. Nora nodded slightly obviously fighting back tears lurking in the corners of her eyes.

Dad sighed. "I trust your judgement Danielle. But still I must say my mind. I don't and definitely don't trust that man called David. Go ahead with your journey and your aim but as for David, be careful with him okay. "

I sighed and nodded. I keep wondering why they keep warning me about him. It was all getting serious though. Really too serious.

Nevertheless, I smiled at dad. " Thanks for the advice." I said and turned to mum who had her arms folded looking away.

I sighed. "Do you have anything to tell me mum?"

She turned to my direction with that insane fury of hers reflecting in her eyes. "I have nothing to say." She began. "Except that, you will not get your aim. Believe me. "

Dad looked at her furious. "Esther? What the hell is wrong with you? Why would you say such a thing to our daughter? "

She glanced at him and shook her head. "It's the truth Josh. For her to forget her family, nah. It's not possible. "

I clentched my fist and bit my lip gazing at the silly raging woman before me.... if only she weren't my mum ...

Was she even my mum? Was the next question that popped into my head. Her attitude to me these days were completely baffling. I don't even think there is a time i was treated nicely by this woman.

I gritted my teeth and clentched my fists the more piercing my nails into her skin.

"Don't worry. I'll show you." I said and walked off away from the kitchen out of the house back to my boyfriend's house. I needed a cooler.

David sat in his sitting room with his hand against his chin looking at the cieling thinking hard. Every single thing his friends said to him kept ringing in his mind relentlessly not willing to let go at all for once. He shook his head furiously trying to contend stupid silly thought. He can't do it and he knew it. He can't do it to Danielle.

After all her struggles and turmoils? What would she look at him as? He shook his head vigorously.

"No. Nooo!!!!" He kept yelling. He can't do it. That would be so bad for her. That would be...

Shit. If he was going to gain alot from her, he would by being a honest boyfriend to her not by taking all she's earned by force.

He sighed and slumped deeper into the sofa. He shook his head slightly. "I can't do this." He muttered looking at the cieling.

The door suddenly opened with force and shut close with much more extreme force making David jerk on the sofa and fall to the ground with a thud.

He growled and looked up at the intruder. It was Danielle. And she didn't look so good. David gulped. That was the mood he knew he couldn't tame in her. She was in her god angry mode. Shit. He began cursing whatever made her this angry. He hated seeing it and ached to take it off her face.
