There were worse things than experiencing a heartbreak and one of it was having to choose from thousands of cringing dresses to buy just to make my old man satisfied.
"This is one of our first collections," the salesgirl smiled and I forced a smile on my face, pretending to be following her, whereas I just wanted to butt out of here and never return.
"It's the best choice for ladies that desire to win a man's heart. It will capture the heart of any man in one glance and make them desire you. You simply become irresistible."
I scoffed, eyeing the dress in disgust, there was no possible way I was ever going to wear that.
"Would you love to try it out?" The ginger haired sales girl asked, looking all cheerful about making me test the dress and it irritated me.
"I don't think I'll......"
"Yes, she will love to try out the dress," Aunty Tessy interrupted, giving me no chance to decline and I glared at her.
"Perfect," the girl cheered, picking the dress up and a few others my annoying aunty thought would look great on me as well. Technically, I didn't pick any dresses because they were simply not to my taste.
"Follow me." Twirling around, she headed towards the dressing room and I stood still, not moving an inch.
"Don't just stand there," Aunty Tessy ebbed me in the side.
"Follow her."
I rolled my eyes, reluctantly moving my feet that preferred being rooted to one place and followed the ginger haired girl.
Getting changed in one of the dresses, I dragged my feet out, frowning and Aunty Tessy clapped loudly, attracting stares to me.
"She just had to make this more annoying," I muttered under my breath, trying to stretch my legs but the dress restricted me from doing that.
"I can't take this dress, it's too tight," I complained.
"But it's beautiful."
"I can't stretch my legs and the dress is choking the life out of me," I gasped for breath dramatically and those that watched me laugh, amused by my behavior. Aunty Tessy simply shook her head, her excitement dying down. Once again, I embarrass my sweet aunty, not like she didn't see this coming anyways.
"Fine, go try out the other dresses," Aunty Tessy rolled her eyes, sending me back into the dressing room and I smiled, glad to have gotten rid of at least one cringy dress. I had 9 more dresses to go through with.
Stepping of the dressing room for the tenth time, Aunty Tessy's mouth flew open, seeing me. I'd admit, out of all the torturous dresses I was forced to wear, this one was the most gorgeous of them all and it went well with my olive tanned skin, complimenting my purple colored hair. Not to mention the fact that it was black.
"Reject this dress and I swear on my dead mother's grave that I'll make you go dumb for the rest of your life so you won't be able to reject any more dresses," Aunty Tessy threatened and I rolled my eyes, holding back a smile.
"Oh my God, I'm so frightened," I shivered dramatically, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
"I'm serious Emily," she deadpanned.
Talk about dramatic, I huffed, admiring myself one more time in the mirror.
"I think I actually love this one." For the first time, I was saying yes to a dress and I'm quite surprised. Doesn't mean I now fancy dresses, as a matter of fact, I still hate them and believe some of them should be torched.
"Thank you, Mother Mary," Aunty Tessy sighed in relief and the ginger haired girl giggled in amusement.
I'm quite impressed with the fact that the salesgirl hasn't gotten frustrated with me yet. Most people tend to find me annoying after spending just a minute with me.
Well, it's not my fault that I'm way above their level and too amazing to associate myself with them.
"Since you've gotten yourself a dress at least, I think I'll look around and equally get myself one."
"Alright," I simply replied, heading towards the dressing room to get changed back in my very comfy clothes.
"Try not to get into any trouble, Emily," she yelled from outside.
"Try not to fall in love with any cute dude you see!" I yelled back and I heard her cuss as she walked away, her heels clicking on the floor.
I got out of the dressing room, dressed in my cargo pants and big black shirt, and the salesgirl smiled at me.
"Anything else you would want to check out?" She asked, still smiling and I couldn't help but wonder if her mouth wasn't aching her yet from having to smile too much.
"I don't think so," I handed the dress back to her, so she could package it.
"I'm just going to look around and if anything, catches my attention I'll ring you up." She nodded, satisfied, and walked away with the dress.
Walking around and checking the dresses they have, a luxurious car pulled over in front of the boutique.
"Oh, my fucking God!" I gaped at the car from the show glass, drooling. It was a Volkswagen ID Buzz, the latest car in town.
But my joy was short-lived the moment I saw who walked out of this beautiful masterpiece. It was none other than, Alexander Knight Roberts.
Every girl in the building that watched him step out went into an uproar. I was the only sane one who wasn't moved by the presence of Washington DC most desired bachelor.
While the ladies pushed themselves, trying to get a glimpse of him as he walked into the building, I simply admired the beautiful masterpiece before me. As far as I was concerned, it was the most desirable thing to me right now.
"I wonder what's so special about Alexander Knight, he's not even 80% handsome as the magazines describe him to be," I smiled at the Volkswagen as though it could hear me.
"What did you just say?" Three girls surrounded me, looking pissed.
"Excuse you," I turned around, quirking my eyebrows at them. Where the hell did they come out from?
"Did you just call our Alexander, ugly?" The one that seemed to be the leader of their little group asked and I scoffed, understanding what this was all about.
Alexander might have internal bodyguards, trying to keep him safe from fans and haters but he also has external bodyguards who happen to be his fans that gang up against anyone who talks shit about him.
Funny thing, the bitches are not even being paid for trying to fight for him. He doesn't even know of their existence.
"If your ears are functioning well, you should have heard me rightly when I said he is not 80% as handsome as the magazines describe him to be," I retorted, not backing down from the fight that they've posed before me.
"You must equally be blind to think so," one of the girls clapped back at me and I eyed her stature, frowning.
"I thought only humans are allowed in here? Who let a rat in?" She gasped in horror and the others gritted their teeth in anger.
"You," she soon recovered, and glared at me while I admired my fingers, finding her face too boring to look at.
"How dare you call me a rat?" She squealed loudly, sounding like a rat, for real and then attacked me with her designers' bag.
Grabbing the bag before it could hit me, I dragged her down, whipping her face hardly on the floor and she cried out in pain.
"Kezzy!" The other girls rushed to her side and I huffed. She was too weak and her movements too slow.
I turned around ready to leave but the other girls sprang up, their eyes burning in fury.
"Where the hell do you think you're going, bitch?" They held some weapons in their hands and I wondered where they got them from.
I got into a fighting stance, ready to break every bone in their bodies if need be.
"Stay out of trouble Emily," Aunty Tessy's warning sounded in my head again as the girls charged at me.
"I'm sorry Aunty Tessy, trouble found me out......."
ALEXANDER'S STANDPOINT
"What's on my schedule, Collins?" I asked, walking into the office with Collins tailing behind me.
"Good morning sir, hope you had a wonderful night?"
"Ask me another useless question and my response will be your sack letter," I replied gruffly and he went silent immediately.
"You have a meeting with the minister of finance. And the meeting is scheduled to hold......"
"Skip that, I won't be attending."
"But...." I gave him a scornful look and that shut him up immediately. Collins is the longest PA I've had without firing him. He was quite competent and knew how to do his work well but one thing I had a problem with, was the fact that he just didn't know when to shut up.
"Next on your schedule is your modelling for fresh glow's product."
"What time is the modelling shoot?" I inquired, frowning.
"This morning sir." I quirked my eyebrows at him and he gulped.
"By 12pm sir," he added, fretting and I rolled my eyes. He was being unnecessarily annoying this morning and making me talk more than necessary.
"12pm is my personal time. Ask them to either reschedule it for another time or cancel it."
Not waiting for a reply, I stomped off into my office, my guards trailing behind me. Some of the employees greeted me but I ignored them, seeing no need to answer them.
I wasn't interested in their greeting but in the product of their service. If only they knew that I was going to be cutting some of them down once I don't see improvement in their services they'd focus more on improving my company and not greeting me.
One thing I made sure to pass across to everyone getting employed here was the fact that there was no space for laziness and unproductivity. You're useless to me if you aren't adding anything to my company.
Getting to my office, my secretary was not on seat, causing me to frown.
"Collins?" I called, facing him.
"Yes sir," he replied, adjusting his glasses.
"Why isn't Ria on her seat?" He looked lost as well, having no answer to give me.
"What's the time?"
Collins glanced at his wrist watch before replying.
"It's 9am sir."
"Why then isn't she around?" I knew I was asking the wrong person because Collins and I headed to work together.
"Sir I think......"
"You know what?"
"Forget about it," I waved him off, interrupting him.
"Just prepare the sack letter of Ria Ambers, and leave it on her desk. Find me another secretary, a competent one."
"Yes sir." He opened the door for me and I stepped into my office, taking off my jacket as I settled on my seat.
"What's this?" I frowned, picking up a document from my desk, glancing through it.
"That's the deal you handed to Maxwell to deal with. That's the result of the deal he made."
Flipping through the pages of the document, my frown deepened.
"I think Mr. Maxwell was able to get the best deal with......" I sent a deathly glare his way and he immediately went silent.
I wonder why no one could do anything right. How the hell can this be called a good deal?
Clenching the document in my hand, I stomped out of the office, heading towards Maxwell's office and Collins ran after me, trying to keep up.
Getting to Maxwell's office I barged in without knocking.
"What the hell did you......" my mouth immediately went dry seeing the sight before me.
Ria Ambers was bent against the table and Maxwell was banging her from behind.
"Boss," Ria called, horrified, pushing Maxwell aside as she hurriedly rushed to arrange her dress.
"Get out!" I spat at her in disgust and she immediately rushed outside, her face crystal red in embarrassment.
"Don't just stand there, go after her and make sure she gets her sack letter and is thrown out of this building with immediate effect," I glared at Collins and he immediately rushed out after her, leaving just Maxwell and I alone in the office.
"Brother......"
"Don't call me that," I growled.
"What the hell is this?" I threw the papers at him, scowling.
"I told you to strike a deal with them, I don't remember asking you to give them offers they do not deserve."
"I did my best," he retorted.
"Clearly, your best was not enough."
"Well, if you think you can do a better job why don't you get it done yourself?" He glared at me and I smiled.
"Gladly. I just wanted to show father how useless you are when it comes to business."
He clenched his fist in anger, his eyes filled with fury.
"You know, you're an asshole!" He spat at me.
"Say whatever you like Max, but we both know who the bigger asshole is and I'm sure father will be angry with me for getting accepting this piece of trash. Wait till he finds out that I put you in charge and you made the shitty deal."
I swirled around ready to leave but then paused in my tracks.
"I know you've always liked going after my things but try not to act so shameless in the office and stay away from my future secretary whoever she may be else I'll be forced to take legal actions against you."
"It's not my fault that I'm irresistible," he smirked cockily and I scoffed, wondering what is so irresistible about him that attracted the ladies to his sorry ass.
"You wish." Walking out of the office, I banged the door close behind me, returning back to my office.
"Sir, please I'm sorry," Ria begged on her knees but I paid her no attention.
"Mr. Alexander," she tried holding me but my guards stopped her from doing so.
"Collins."
"Yes sir."
"Ensure she is out of here before I step out of my office or else you'll be leaving with her. I do not want wish to repeat myself again."
Not waiting for his response and ignoring the pleas of Ria, I stepped into my office.
"That should be the 20th secretary that you're firing this month," Jeremy smirks, sitting on my chair.
"Who let you in?" I frowned, not in the mood for his chattering this morning.
Jeremy Wilestone is my best friend and the world's best idiot but it didn't change the fact he is the biggest drug Lord in town.
"Is that your way of saying you're happy to see me?" He grinned.
"Get out of my seat!" I scoffed, pushing him off.
"You're no fun," he shook his head, looking disappointed and I ignored him, going through the files on my system.
"What do you want, Jeremy?" I sighed, noticing his incessant staring. Whenever he looked at me with innocent eyes that were far from innocent, he was always after something.
"I need a little help."
"When you say little you actually mean something bigger. Mind you, I have a lot on my plate at the moment I do not have the luxury to get involved in your shits."
"You've seriously got to help me out with this one Alex, it's bigger than you think."
"What did you do this time around?"
"Well, I didn't actually do anything...." He drawled and I furrowed my eyebrows at him.
"I seriously didn't do anything, trust me."
"So, what's the issue?" I rolled my eyes, not believing him.
"Your mother is on my tail."
"My mother?" I furrowed my eyebrows at him, wondering what the witch had to do with this.
I sighed, relaxing back on my chair.
"What does she want this time around?"
"She wants you to go on a blind date," Jeremy revealed and I scoffed not amused.
"Tell me something I don't know."
"If you don't she is blowing up one of my warehouses and I don't know which one," he added, looking horrified.
"Well that's your business not mine. Deal with it because I'm not going for the blind date." I sat up and turned on my computer, ready to begin work for the day when my phone buzzed.
I picked it up to see that Jeremy sent me a video. My eyes went wide with shock when I saw the contents of the video.
"What the actual fuck Jeremy!"
EMILY'S STANDPOINT
"Emily Davis?" A female cop called.
"That will be me," I smiled, getting up from my prison bed. She opened the prison locks and I walked out, stretching my limbs.
Whoever was in charge of the taxes really needed to double up his game. The prison ward was shitty. It lacked a comfortable bed and a heater. It felt like I was really going to freeze.
"I leave you for one minute and next thing you end up in the prison?" Aunty Tessy screeched loudly probably with the intention of bursting my eardrums.
"Seriously Aunty Tessy, your voice is already loud enough you don't need to scream like you're a banshee," I said, grinning and she gaped at me in disbelief.
"You should listen to your Aunt, Emily," the female cop said, handing me my materials.
"I won't be letting you off the hook that easily if you end up in here again."
"Don't worry officer, I'll be back in no time," I winked at her, walking out of the police station.
"I can't believe her," I heard aunty Tessy say as I walked out.
"Hurry up, Aunty Tessy! I have a job to......." My saliva suddenly went dry as I saw my father standing in front of the car, glaring at me.
If looks could kill, I'll probably be in the grave with my mama right now.
"Hi daddy," I waved at him nervously and he just kept glaring at me without saying anything.
"Look dad, it's not what you think. Those girls hit me first and I defended myself. It's not a crime to defend oneself. I just had to stand up for myself," I babbled and he just kept glaring at me, still not saying anything. One thing I hated the most was silent treatment from my Dad. It was nerve wrecking and I never know the right words to say to him when he is angry.
"Great," Aunty Tessy said, walking out of the station.
"Go with your Dad I'll come and get the car later. I have a date I don't want to miss. I'm already late because of you!" Aunty Tessy snarled at me and I bit my lips suddenly feeling guilty but I still didn't regret beating those dumb heads. They got what they asked for.
"Thanks for bailing me out!" I yelled as she left, boarding a taxi.
"Emily," Dad called calmly and I knew what comes after.
"I've got to run Dad, I'm late for my shift at the restaurant. We'll meet at home," I announced and took off without waiting for a reply.
Whenever Dad called my name so calmly it never ended well and I was really late for my shift. My boss was fucking going to kill me.
I sprinted all the way to the restaurant, bumping into people as I did and apologizing as well.
I got to the restaurant in no time and met a line of luxurious cars outside. I was late already, I didn't have the time to admire these babies.
I tried to sneak in through the back but well, heaven was definitely not on my side because my worst nightmare in form of my boss, stood at the entrance, waiting for me.
"Boss," I laughed nervously, scratching my head and he glared at me while the other waiters and cooks, shook their heads pretending not to see anything.
"You're 30mins late again Emily," He pointed out with his strong Italian accent that always made me want to laugh but I'd be cursed to laugh right now. I would only be playing with my job.
"I had a bit of an issue......"
He raised his hand up, interrupting me, "I don't want to hear whatever pathetic story you have cooked up for me again."
"This time around, it's true I had......" I immediately went silent seeing the hard stare that he gave me.
"This is your last chance Emily. Any more mess up from you and you're out."
"Thank you, boss," I bowed, smiling. He rolled his eyes, not moved one bit and walked away.
I immediately went to get changed into my uniform and packed my short hair into a pony tail before joining the others.
"Table 5!" A cook yelled and I immediately rushed to grab the food and go serve it.
Approaching the table, I frowned, seeing someone that looked like Alexander Knight with a slutty dressed bimbo.
"It definitely can't be him," I shook my head and put on a plastic smile as I walked up to them.
On getting to them, I missed a footing and slipped, falling into the hands of my worst nightmare, Alexander Knight.
I wasn't seeing things, it was really him.
"What the fucking hell is wrong with you?" He yelled loudly, violently pushing me off his body, irritated and I landed roughly on the ground. As though that wasn't embarrassing enough, everyone's attention turned to us.
"You've ruined his shirt!" The bimbo yelled. Alexander glared at me and I glared right back at him, unflinching.
"What are you going to do about it bitch?" His slutty date asked and I rolled my eyes, totally ignoring her.
Misfortune is never far from me. First, I got into a police station because of Alexander and now, I'm definitely going to get fired as well because of this rich asshole if I don't make things right.
Pushing myself off the floor, I stood before him, not breaking eye contact with him.
"I'm sorry," I apologized, looking down and the bimbo scoffed, getting up while Alexander suddenly went quiet, watching me. I wonder what was running through that brain of his.
"Is that all you're going to say, you're sorry?"
"What else do you want me to say?" I looked up, glaring at her. I wonder what her issue is. The person I needed to apologize to was Alexander not her.
"I made a mistake and I'm......" I was cut off by a deafening slap on my cheeks and everyone watching the show gasped in surprise.
"Don't glare at me you lo......" Not allowing her complete her sentence I slapped her back, knocking her to the ground and stunning everyone on the room, including Alexander.
I was definitely getting fired now.
Not bothered anymore, I faced Alexander.
"I apologize once again for ruining your expensive suit," I said, biting my lips.
"You can always get another one since you're a rich asshole and you should also go for authentic things not plastic beauty like her," I added, insulting the bimbo who wouldn't get up from the floor due to embarrassment.
"Emily!" My boss thundered but I ignored him and wouldn't break eye contact with Alexander.
"What's your name?" He asked and my lips curved into a smirk.
"Emily Davis at your service sir........."
