Aurelie gripped the wine bottle and stepped cautiously into the packhouse.
This was ceremonial wine-the kind saved for weddings. People said couples who drank it together would be blessed, though that might just be marketing talk. Still, Aurelie had been happy to travel out of town for it. If one bottle could somehow keep her boyfriend tied to a blind omega, she'd go any distance. Matthew had specifically requested it, after all.
The thought of Matthew sent warmth spreading through her chest. By tomorrow, his mark would be on her neck. She glanced down, fingers brushing the bottle, unable to stop herself from smiling.
"God! Fiora, you're always so damn tight. Every time we do this, it drives me insane."
"Not so rough, it hurts... ah! Stop biting my nipple, you're terrible!"
Aurelie froze outside Matthew's door, hand suspended mid-air. The wine bottle suddenly felt impossibly heavy, like it was crushing her ribcage.
This couldn't be real.
She drew in a shaky breath.
The sounds hit her sensitive ears like thunderclaps.
"Matthew, are you ever this wild with my pathetic sister?"
Aurelie's heart stopped.
"You think I'd waste energy on her?" Matthew's laugh was harsh and cruel. "I can't stand touching her. Who would want a defective omega? She's not just blind-she's completely useless! You're gorgeous, you're hot, you're sophisticated. Baby, you're leagues above her."
Aurelie swallowed back the taste of bile rising in her throat. She hadn't been born blind-she'd gotten injured saving him!
A year ago, returning from a perfume exhibition, she'd come across Matthew being hunted by rogues. She'd been hurt in the chaos trying to protect him.
When she woke two weeks later to find herself blind, she'd completely broken down. Already an outcast omega, and with her father's remarriage leaving her virtually without family, she couldn't bear to imagine the vicious things her stepmother and stepsister would say. The educational opportunities she'd fought so hard for seemed permanently out of reach now.
She'd been drowning in despair, barely registering the crowd in her hospital room until someone spoke from beside her bed. Matthew and his father had come to visit, along with local television reporters.
With cameras rolling, Matthew had taken her hand right then and said he'd protect her for life. His father, Reno Damon-Alpha of the Ice Wolf Pack-had promised to repay her for saving his precious son, pledging to cover her care and treatment until he passed leadership to Matthew. The implication was clear: Matthew would marry her.
Aurelie had been lost, with no family to consult. Matthew, her senior, was someone she'd secretly loved from afar. As an omega most people disliked, she'd never imagined speaking to him. That one brave act had somehow brought them together.
So amid the medical staff's cheers, cameras captured Matthew embracing her. That photo was plastered across major news sites within hours. Ice Wolf Pack company stocks soared. What a kindhearted CEO and heir!
From that point on, Matthew stayed by her side. Aurelie convinced herself, took comfort in the idea that lacking werewolf blood wasn't so terrible-not when she could still have someone as handsome and charming as Matthew.
She kept reassuring herself that her inner wolf would eventually awaken. She just needed patience and practice.
Aurelie paused to catch her breath, remembering how she'd thought that experience would mark the start of something beautiful.
She'd been dreaming. A breathtaking dream that, the instant she let herself believe in the happiness, twisted into the most horrifying nightmare.
"Oh god, Matthew, I can't take anymore!"
"Come on baby, let's finish together. Don't hold back-I want to watch us both climax. Ah! Fiora!"
Aurelie's hand found the doorknob. She was about to turn it.
"Fiora, don't stress about me marrying your stepsister. I've already figured out how to escape this damn arrangement. I'm handing her over to Vincent Keegan as debt payment. That bastard bled me dry and left me owing him money, so I told him I'd pay him back with a woman who could satisfy him."
"My god, Matthew, she could die at Vincent's hands. You must be insane!"
"You say that, but you're smiling so bright, darling. I think this is the fastest way to get rid of Aurelie so we can finally be together."
Fawning laughter and obscene moans drifted through the barely-open door. Aurelie abandoned any thought of pushing it wider and going inside.
She turned and moved silently along the wall, counting steps, relying on her sharp and practiced instincts to escape that sinful room where her stepsister and fiancé were constructing a rotting palace built on betrayal.
Tears Aurelie had been holding back slowly traced down her cheeks. She leaned against the wall and sank to the floor. She needed to stop before she could keep going.
Her hand touched the cold floor weakly. Her index finger brushed something smooth and soft.
Aurelie reached for the object. She felt its shape and texture, brought it closer to smell, then went rigid.
Since losing her sight, Aurelie had trained her other senses to become stronger and more precise. She could recognize and remember people by sound and scent alone, could identify objects through texture and smell.
Revulsion and fury washed over her. She flung the item away in disgust.
Fiora's underwear.
Aurelie staggered to her feet, grabbed the bottle, uncorked it, and took a long swallow of the expensive wine-as if that could chase away the smell she'd just encountered.
"Aurelie, what are you doing?"
A woman's sharp voice came from the left, startling her.
"You've gone too far! That wine cost Matthew a fortune. And you just drank it like that? What will you two drink tomorrow? A disabled bride is such a burden. You greedy, ill-mannered, disgusting orphan!"
The curse came from Matthew's mother, Annika Damon-a superior beta.
She set down the wedding dress she'd brought on the sofa, then marched up to Aurelie and snatched away the half-empty bottle.
"Stupid woman!" Annika roared. "What were you thinking? How could you do something like this? Look at yourself-you're disgusting and barbaric!"
Rage burned inside Aurelie.
"Mrs. Damon, you don't need to remind me to look at myself! Have you forgotten I'm blind? All because of your son!" Aurelie's voice cut sharp.
The obedient little blind girl suddenly turning sharp-tongued must have startled her.
"Wh-what?" she stammered. "You're yelling at me? Do you know what you're doing? Aurelie, stop making trouble! The wedding's tomorrow, and no matter what happens, you need to control yourself and not cause problems!"
Annika grabbed the wedding dress and shoved it into Aurelie's hands with a mocking laugh.
"This dress is a size too small for you. Don't eat anything from tonight until tomorrow, or it won't fit. There'll be live media coverage-don't embarrass the Damon family."
Aurelie gritted her teeth. They thought she was just a useless omega, but they were wrong. They wanted to sell her to Vincent Keegan, but she was going to turn the tables on them.
Anika Damon preferred Fiora. It was only because Mathew was saved by Aurelie, leaving her blind, that she had to accept that her future daughter-in-law wouldn't be Fiora.
In Anika's eyes, Aurelie's blindness wasn't the only thing that made her worthless, but she was also useless, being just an Omega without an inner wolf.
Even her appearance was rustic and unattractive, leading Anika to often curse Mathew's misfortune.
That's why, to show her dissatisfaction, Anika deliberately sent Aurelie a pink bridesmaid dress instead of a real wedding dress.
She took advantage of Aurelie's blindness, confident that Aurelie wouldn't realize that the pink dress wasn't a real wedding dress.
She wanted to embarrass Aurelie on her wedding day so that, once she became part of the Damon family as a daughter-in-law, she wouldn't dare mess around.
Several servants in the house witnessed the commotion between Aurelie and Anika.
They were surprised, because it was unusual for Aurelie to be as rude and fierce as she was towards Anika.
Then, they saw the pink wedding dress in Aurelie's hands and began whispering among themselves.
"That's not the wedding dress Ms. Aurelie is supposed to wear. That's a bridesmaid's dress!"
"Shhh, don't interfere. That fierce Mrs. Anika will scold you if she finds out you made that comment."
"Poor Ms. Aurelie. She'll look like a bridesmaid, and if the guests bully her, she'll be the one to blame."
"I think Mrs. Anika did it on purpose. You know she doesn't like Ms. Aurelie, right?"
Aurelie's keen hearing caught every word with crystal clear clarity.
She sat on the chair, hugging the bridesmaid's dress, and heard familiar footsteps coming down from the second floor.
"Tch, annoying!" Fiora grumbled. She grabbed Mathew's face and planted a kiss on his lips before leaving.
Matthew straightened his clothes and approached Aurelie. "Hey, honey, why are you sitting here alone? I was looking for you."
Aurelie didn't move. "I didn't know you were looking for me. I thought you were just busy talking to someone else."
Matthew reached out, took Aurelie's hand, and squeezed it gently. Aurelie felt disgusted, smelling Fiora's strong perfume clinging to Mathew. She pulled her hand away and sighed.
"Is this the wedding dress you're going to wear tomorrow?" Mathew asked. "It's beautiful. The color suits you."
Aurelie wanted to vomit because of Mathew's scent. She let go of her fiancé's embrace and stepped away, approaching the door to the attic.
"I need to rest for a while, Mathew. Sorry I can't take you out. My head is spinning," Aurelie said.
She didn't wait for Mathew to answer and left.
The next day, Mathew took Aurelie to the Civil Affairs Bureau.
"Are you two going to register your marriage?" the registrar asked.
Matthew glanced at Aurelie, who was standing a distance away, and whispered, "I'm just dropping off my sister. She's blind. The groom is a little late, but he'll be here soon. Just write down their names. Aurelie Shane Lyman and Vincent Alexander Keagan."
"That Vincent Keagan?" asked the registrar.
"Yes, THAT Vincent Keagan," snapped Mathew.
Vincent Alexander Keagan is the sole heir to the famous hereditary aristocratic and millionaire family in America and Europe, The Keagan family.
He is a dominant Alpha, of the highest class, just like his father, Caleb Keagan XI, a respected naval general.
General Caleb Keagan was highly respected not only because of his loyalty to the country, but also because he was known for his courage and decisiveness.
The general's busy schedule made him neglect his only son's upbringing, especially after his wife died when their son was less than a year old.
Lonely and with all the luxurious amenities he had, Vincent grew up with a rebellious streak.
Vincent was a tough man, and many said he was cruel, oppressive, and unruly. He was notorious and feared in the city of Caraseen.
However, he was incredibly handsome, above average height, and well-built, with buttery skin and near-perfect facial features.
His eyes were caramel-colored, turning golden in the light. He had a sharp nose, a sharp jawline, and thin, bow-shaped lips.
His appearance caused many women to struggle with whether to hate or love him.
Furthermore, in addition to his wealthy family, Vincent was also a perfumery entrepreneur, the same industry as Mathew, making the two men business rivals.
She thought that the "Soul Caller" scent she had been searching for, convinced it would awaken her inner wolf, might be found in Vincent's perfume formula.
So, she pretended not to know about Mathew's scheme and sat quietly waiting for Vincent to arrive.
Nearly an hour later, Vincent arrived in a grand fashion, driving a brand-new black sports car, with a convoy of Betas and Gammas trailing behind him in other luxury cars.
They were quite striking, especially when Vincent entered the Bureau office, his handsome and charismatic appearance.
"Sir, don't be in such a hurry," said Gary Dornick, his Beta assistant. "You don't want to pick up the wrong bride."
"Tsk! I don't care about that. What's important is that my father keeps quiet about my life and his insistence that I marry," Vincent snapped.
Vincent glanced around and his eyes fixed on Aurelie, who sat quietly, staring straight ahead.
"What took you so long?" Mathew rebuked, annoyed, almost whispering. "And why do you have to be so obvious?"
Vincent snorted sarcastically. He pointed at Mathew's chest, who was shorter than him, with his index finger.
"Don't try to control me, Damon! You owe me, and this agreement was agreed upon when you begged me at the gambling table to forgive your debt in exchange for that blind bride," Mathew said firmly.
"She'll realize it's not me who's marrying her," Mathew whispered. "I can't marry her because the one I love is her sister. And you don't care who you marry because you only want to avenge your father, right?"
While the two men were usually at odds, this was the first time they were in complete agreement, despite their selfishness.
During the wedding registration photo session, Aurelie realized that the man beside her wasn't Mathew.
He was taller and bigger. He also smelled very different from Mathew's, which had been contaminated by Fiora's scent.
Mathew's scent was a blend of bitter cloves, tart bergamot, and a sharp oud note. Sometimes, when he sweated, the scent became overpowering and dizzying.
As for Vincent, Aurelie tried to process it in her mind for a moment. It was the fresh, sweet scent of pineapple, then after a little more than three seconds, a soft scent of lavender and geranium, and then a masculine cedarwood and white musk.
For some reason, Vincent's scent was pleasant.
Aurelie was calm and cooperative throughout the process. She followed all instructions without saying a word.
This attitude attracted Vincent to her. He sensed a faint smile in Aurelie's blind eyes.
Vincent thought Aurelie was naive, unaware that she had been "sold" by her own husband-to-be.
"Come on, Aurel, you have to sign this marriage certificate quickly so the process can be over," Mathew said impatiently.
Aurelie laughed to herself.
If signing the document meant severing all ties with Mathew forever, she wouldn't hesitate.
Aurelie signed her signature, and Vincent did the same.
From this moment on, we are enemies, Aurelie thought to herself. Mathew Damon was a stranger to me.
Matthew took Vincent's copy of the marriage certificate and used the word "borrow" silently.
"Aurel, I'll send someone to pick you up. I have something important to take care of first," Mathew said, and left in a hurry. "We met at the house."
"How ridiculous," Vincent said, holding back laughter, watching Mathew's behavior.
He turned to Aurelie, who was standing alone, and suddenly felt pity.
"Poor thing," whispered Varn, his inner wolf. "She looks lonely. A beautiful woman wasted by a fool!"
Initially, Vincent had made a pact with Mathew that he would wait until after the wedding ceremony at the Damon home to speak with Aurelie and reveal everything.
However, seeing Aurelie now, he chose to break his promise and approach her.
"Sir, where are you going?" Gary asked, shocked.
Vincent didn't answer, standing beside Aurelie, staring at the face of the woman who had become his wife, his heart suddenly beating faster.
"Aurelie Lyman," Vincent said. "Do you know who I am?"
Aurelie turned to Vincent and smiled.
Vincent was captivated. He had never seen such clear, though empty, eyes.
The eyes were shaped like almonds, and the eyeballs were dark bluish purple. It is a unique and very beautiful color combination.
Taking advantage of their proximity, Vincent examined Aurelie more closely.
This blind girl was very beautiful. Not a sharp kind of beauty, but delicate like a rose petal.
Her skin was pearly white, with a subtle pink hue. Her hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes were a mocha brown, all in perfect proportion to her petite face and petite body, only halfway up Vincent's upper arm
With her wavy hair flowing down her back, if she were wearing a short, lacy dress, she might have been mistaken for a fairy.
"Alpha Vincent, she smells so good," Varn said, sniffing the air. "Like roses and baby powder."
Vincent cleared his throat. "You might--"
"You're my husband, aren't you?" Aurelie replied softly. "We've signed the marriage certificate, and that officially declares us husband and wife."
"By the Moon Goddess, Alpha Vincent, this woman makes me feel weak," Varn murmured. "Her tenderness is truly enchanting."
Vincent felt his blood rushing to a single point in his body. Aurelie's voice was so soft and melodious. His desire rose uncontrollably.
"You know that-"
Aurelie nodded, cutting him off. "Yes, I know, and I think you should be at our wedding, right? Would you like to come to our wedding party?"
Vincent was surprised to learn that Aurelie had actually sensed it when he was sitting next to her during the photo session and the certificate signing, not Mathew, but she still went along with the wedding register without any hesitation.
"Hmm, this is interesting," Varn said. "The fact that she knew she was being lied to, yet she kept quiet and did it all."
"Do you really think she's blind?" Vincent asked. "Why do I feel like her eyes are too beautiful to be blind?"
"Test it," Varn said. "I'm curious too. Besides, I can't see any signs of her inner wolf."
Vincent then tested Aurelie using gestures. He waved his hand in front of her, as well as other methods to see if she was just pretending to be blind.
"She really is blind, Varn," Vincent said.
"And she's wolfless," Varn replied. "I didn't sense any inner wolf in her at all."
"This is getting interesting," Vincent said with a grin. "An make me curious."
The car that was picking Aurelie up arrived. Vincent helped her into the car.
"I'm coming to our wedding," Vincent said with a chuckle. "You go on ahead."
When Aurelie arrived at the Damon family home, Caroline Lyman, her stepmother and Fiora, immediately greeted her impatiently.
They pulled Aurelie into the living room, where she tripped over a table leg and sat her down on the sofa.
"How is it? Have you finished registering your marriage with Mathew?" Caroline asked curiously. She glanced at Fiora and smiled.
Aurelie nodded. "Everything is over, and my marriage is officially registered."
Fiora took Aurelie's bag and forced it open. "Where's the marriage certificate?8 I want to see."
Fiora took Aurelie's marriage certificate and stared wide-eyed. She nudged her mother's arm and showed it.
Upon seeing that the groom listed on the document was Vincent Alexander Keagan, mother and daughter could barely contain their satisfaction and triumph.
Everybody knew that Vincent was a Casanova. He lived a carefree life, disliked ties, and only played around with women. He changed women every month, if not less.
Worse than that, no woman, human or werewolf, could stand him.
Rumors circulated that he was a sexual sadist, adding that many women had met their end in his bed.
Caroline grinned. A terrible fate at Vincent's hands seemed almost inevitable for Aurelie, especially since she was an Omega who had no inner wolf whatsoever.
Caroline was certain Aurelie wouldn't last more than a month with Vincent.
"We did it, Mom," Fiora whispered. "She'll be kicked out soon and was humiliated after Damon's family found out that she had--"
"Aurelie, are you here?"
Suddenly, Mathew entered the living room of his family's house, waving the marriage certificate in his hand.
"What's this? Why is the name on this certificate Vincent Keagan? Aurelie, have you changed my name to Vincent?" Mathew asked angrily.
Caroline and Fiora held back laughter. They knew Mathew was acting.
Aurelie didn't answer at all.
"She must have changed my name while I was taking care of the stamp duty and payment for this marriage certificate," Mathew said coldly. "You're really too much, Aurelie. You're blind, yet you can do something this cunning?"
Caroline and Fiora felt they had succeeded, quite easily getting rid of this "thorn in the flesh" named Aurelie, working with Mathew.
"Why would you do something like this, Aurelie?" Fiora said. "You'll embarrass Mathew!"
"This is no joke, Aurelie," Caroline retorted. "You're going to mess this whole thing up!"
The mother and daughter fully expected Aurelie to be kicked out of the Damon family without ceremony, leaving Fiora free to take her place and become the heir's wife of Damon family.
"What should I do?" Mathew muttered, feigning confusion. "I never expected Aurelie to treat me like this. If you really didn't want to marry me, couldn't you have just refused from the start, Aurelie?"
Fiora touched Mathew's shoulder and squeezed gently. "This is an important matter, and the wedding ceremony should be taking place soon. Your father needs to know about this before he receives his important guests."
Before Fiora finished speaking, Reynold Damon entered the living room with a beaming smile.
"Are the bride and groom ready? The blessing ceremony is about to begin, and I need to announce the bride and groom's names to the guests," Reynold said excitedly.
Matthew approached his father with a sad expression on his face.
"Dad, actually-"
"Mathew, just give the marriage certificate to your father," Fiora whispered from behind him.
"What's going on?" Reynold asked with a raised eyebrow. "Mathew? What's going on?"
Impatiently, Fiora handed Aurelie's marriage certificate to him.
Caroline gave Fiora a thumbs-up, and they both waited with bated breath, anticipating the moment when Aurelie would be humiliated and thrown out of the Damon family home.
Aurelie, on the other hand, remained calm. She simply listened intently as she waited to see what would happen.
"You're confusing me," Reynold said. "The guests are starting to arrive, and you're not even ready yet!"
He opened the marriage certificate and his eyes fell on the couple7 photo on the certificate and read the names Aurelie Shane Lyman and Vincent Alexander Keagan.
As Caroline, Fiora, and Mathew had predicted, Reynold immediately exploded in anger.
"WHAT THE HELL? AURELIE, EXPLAIN WHY VINCENT KEAGAN'S NAME IS ON THIS MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE?" Reynold shouted thunderously. "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO MARRY MY SON!"
"Dad, calm down," Mathew said, pretending to reassure his father, but the corners of his lips quirked up in a smile.
"Maybe Aurelie doesn't want to marry me and-"
"IF SHE DIDN'T WANT TO MARRY YOU, WHY DIDN'T SHE REFUSE FROM THE FIRST!" Reynold shouted. "FURTHER THAN, SHE'S ALSO MARRIED TO VINCENT KEAGAN, OUR ARCH ENEMY!"
Caroline pulled Aurelie's hand, causing her to fall to the floor.
"Aurelie, you must explain your intentions and apologize to Mr. Damon," Caroline snapped fiercely.
Reynold's loud voice caught the attention of the guests already present in the foyer, and they gathered curiously at the threshold of the living room.
Vincent had just gotten out of his car when he heard Reynold's shout. He calmly entered the Damon family home and stood behind the other guests who had gathered to watch.
Vincent's above-average height made it easy for him to see what was happening in the living room.
His heart throbbed with emptiness when he saw Aurelie sitting on the floor, surrounded by the shouts and screams of the people standing around her.
Vincent's fists clenched tightly, and he stepped forward, pushing through the crowd and open his mouth...
